Don't be mislead by the small size of this hardware store. they've got products lined up to the VERY high ceilings, and extremely helpful staff that will tolerate the fact that you have "just one more thing" after another. I stopped by to pick up some staples, a tack hammer, and some long nose pliers for a home project and it cost me under $15.00! Amazing. I was even able to find a substitute for an upholstery tack hammer. It's not dainty, but it does the job, and only ran me about six bucks (Stick that $46.00 tack hammer up yours, ZARIN!!!). Just...no. No no no no no. No. Back when I lived in HK, I went in here to get paint & supplies. Seriously, there are like five dudes working in here but only one seemed to be doing anything productive (thank you paint man). The rest were much too busy effing around, hitting each other, and singing lil wayne ballads. This was on top of blatantly ignoring customers. It took me 15 minutes to find everything I needed because only one guy would acknowledge customers in the store. On another note, they sell a lot of stuff, so if you can get past the fact that it's a zoo in there and can find things on your own, have at it. Don't say I didn't warn you, though. I can't believe I just reviewed a hardware store, but the lack of customer service was truly amazing and memorable. read more

While not the most impressive hardware store in the city, they certainly met my needs. I realized I needed to have some keys made. Within 15 minutes I had walked over, had a key made, paid, and was on my way back home. The only way to describe the atmosphere inside this place is organized chaos. First of all, kudos to Christian who readily helped me after one of his colleagues brushed me off without so much as a verbal response to an inquiry (Chris). Other than Christian, I had very unpleasant experiences with each of the three other people on the floor, including the cashier who actively insulted me as I suggested that four employees should not stand at the cash register with only one ringing people up - when there was a line waiting to be checked out. This store can do better and many members of the staff should be trained in the art of customer service - as opposed to the inattentive and insulting care I received today. read more

I would suggest everyone to compare prices at other locations before coming to this place. They charged me $30 dollars for an item that everywhere else is $7. I thought it was a mistake and went back to the store to doble check. They told that "this is our price" And good to know. I then ask for my money back. I just read about the price gouging incident I really hope its not true but just looked up the letter from the office of the Attorney General to the owner Andrew Scheman. I dont think she would send hand delivered btw to him if its not true. On facebook He the owner wrote that he only was pricing according to what he was being priced for the product. Well, the proper thing to do was to alert the office of attorney Gen to the prices he was being given and not carry the item until it was all cleared up. But by offering then as the final stop of the overpriced product to the consumer you become part of the gouging. The owner should have said..im not offering my fellow new yorkers purell for 78 dollars. But he did so it made him dirt and part of the scam. Its like a bank robber who goes into the bank with help...they cant say when caught I didnt know he was robbing the bank he only asked me to carry bags. lol....wow dude issue a letter of apology and stick it on your front door big .... read more

This is my first yelp review ever. I'm so upset because of the way I was treated at this store. I went to get a key copied so I asked the cashier where the key dept is located, and she said it's in the back. I started walking back there and a male sales associate asked me if I need help. I said no (since I assumed he didn't copy keys and only worked sales on the floor). I walked to the key department and there was an old man copying a key for another customer so I waited. Then a man came over to wait to get a key copied as well. The old man copying the key hadn't looked up or acknowledged anyone at this point. The previous male sales associate came over and asked the male customer if he needs a key copied. I spoke up to say I was actually next in line and then the other customer said oh ok go ahead. The male sales associate informed me that he already tried to help me so I can wait. I asked if he's the manager and he said the old man (the one copying a key) is the manager, and he still hasn't spoken a word during this entire exchange. So I told them that I'd go elsewhere to get the key copied. Then the rude male sales associate said again that HE already tried to help me so that's fine. To that I responded that I'd never go to the hardware store again and the male sales associate just said "too bad". HORRIBLE. That sales associate is so rude and obviously has a problem with women. read more

I never check yelp for this type of business and I never even check price if it's expensive or so but when the cashier talk to customers rudely and like shit then it make you check what other people say about that place and here we are same as other people saying poor customer service and expensive price not just that but they talk to you its like you take the stuff for free, freaking 20 minuets I waited to get some one to help me and then I'm asking the lady the cashier if she might know how to help me and then she telling me if you don't like it go somewhere else, super rude when you talk to your customers like that who give you business, my recommendation find somewhere else who can deal with customers with respect. read more

I am here about 4 or 5 times a year. The store is small and they generally have what I want but it is not always easy to get someone to help. There is a tendency to push you off to "someone else". Today for instance it took 15 minutes to buy a simple T Square. It was not busy. I will grant the store is generally well stocked. read more

Went in early this morning with an obscure hardware need. While afraid I would be brushed off, I received a good 20 minutes of personal assistance and help in solving my project. I redid the lightlng in my apartment by changing all my tracks from halogen to LED. I found the Scheman & Grant employee that I worked with extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Importantly, he lent me several alternative bulbs to see what would work best for my apartment. Testing alternatives was really helpful sInce this was a significant investment and I did not know how the LEDs would look in my space. The employee I worked with was able to translate all the technical jargon into a practical solution which included reducing the number of bulbs that I was using; it turns out he was right about reducing the number of bulbs. Finallly, Scheman and Grant was very pleasant to work with. My apartment lighting is much better for having gone to them. Thanks for your help. read more
