Also got a can of compressed air - was a little taken aback by the price, $7.99 for a 10z can of Blow-Off that sells for half the price on Amazon if you buy in bulk, but I guess if you need it in a pinch you have to pay the price. This is a great place to get your keys made. At $1.65 a pop for standard copies, the pricing is the best in the area. I know that's pretty normal for outside of Manhattan, but the competition around here charges way more. I had three copies made and it only took a couple of minutes. As for the rest of the merchandise, it's a pretty good selection. You wouldn't go here to fill a shopping cart, as the prices are more in line with other Manhattan hardware stores, but for one or two things they'll probably have what you need. read more

I came here right around opening time to pick up a flashlight and was quickly helped by one of the guys soon after walking in. He presented a bunch of flashlights based on my preference of battery sizes and I was out the door with my flashlight of choice. The attentiveness of this hardware store's worker as well as their early opening time gives them a solid 4 stars. read more

The man at the register was very nasty and dismissive towards me. I'm putting up shelves in my house and am learning about how to drill. I was looking for a drill bit but wasn't sure what size to buy. I showed him the nail that I'm using and the size of the holes in the wall. Since I did not know the diameter of the hole, he said that he could not help me. I even showed him a picture and he said, "nope can't help you." He did not even try to guide me or educate me. He clearly has a wealth of knowledge if he runs the counter at a hardware store but felt that he did not even want to sell to me or even want me in the store. That's completely fine. I'll continue to give my money to the hardware stores in Harlem that welcome people who look like me. read more

I was searching for a unique lightbulb. After calling half a dozen places I tried brothers hardware they were beyond helpful and actually had the bulbs in stock. They held for me and I was able to run over and pickup. They have a huge selection of miscellaneous tools and parts which is unusual in Manhattan. I was so impressed the item was in store and at how kind helpful everyone was. Old world service like this is few and far between. 5 stars!!! read more

a hardware store near my job, which is convient when you need something pronto. as for selection, the place is wall to wall, to every nook and cranny filled with items you need to get the job done. they make key copies, sell paint and related supplies, tools, nuts, bolts, screws, glue, and whatever hardware stores carry. the staff are friendly chaps who know their jobs and give you what you need to get the job done, everytime i walk in i am assisted right away, so no need to make the trek to home depot or lowes. my only gripe are the prices are kinda high, but its manhattan and nothing is cheap in the area, and its not like hardware stores are like yemen grocery stores that are all less then a block from each other. the front window displays (both of them, have the goods displayed likes its a toy store, so much stuff and all is organized neatly. read more

What a wonderful hardware store! I feel so lucky to have this place in my neighborhood so I can avoid schlepping to the gigantic Home Depot (which always takes an hour to get through, even if you're only looking for one thing). The staff is super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. It's the only place I'll go to have keys made, pick up household supplies, and get advice and tools for my little home projects. It's been some time since I reviewed Brothers hardware. Now I'm doing it again, with good reason. This store keeps getting better and better. They have more merchandise than a year or two ago. It's a hardware store that makes me feel comfortable. I walk in and immediately get the feeling that I'll find what I need. If I don't know exactly what I need - the staff will figure it out for me. Swivel casters, signage, etc. . . . they have what I need. If they don't have it, they get it for me pretty darn quickly. Never a problem. Sooooo . . . that's why they are the only business that gets a 5-star review, for the second time, from me. read more

Besides the usual household hardware that I need regularly I have also gotten material for study of electricity: tools, wires, connectors, and the rest. The staff here has been truly helpful with that as I have observed they are with all customers' needs. This morning I needed a tool to complete a minor DIY job in my Midtown office. Around the corner, I find Brothers Hardware. I walked in the door and from the far back of the store, a Brothers person came right to greet me and ask if I needed assistance. Within 3 minutes I was back out the door with just what I needed. No hassle; no pressure to buy the fancier version. As always happens, I discovered shortly after returning from my trip to the hardware store that I needed another thing to complete my task. Alas! There must be some fundamental force in nature at work! So back to Brothers I went this afternoon, and I received the same treatment from another Brothers person. I had the exact toggle bolts I needed and back out the door in 3 minutes. This place is a welcome relief from Home Depot. read more

BEST HARDWARE STORE IN NYC! They have it all, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The prices are very fair especially for NYC. If they don't have it in stock they will have it for You next day. It's more than just your typical hardware store, while I was there I was able to pick up a few extra items I didn't think If would find in a hardware store. They gentleman who was helping me also gave me a lot of great ideas how to finish my project under budget and was excellent with assisting in choosing paint colors. It was a real pleasure shopping in a one stop shop with a knowledgable staff that gave me there full attention from start to finish, unlike the big box retail shops where no one even wants to talk to you. Came in here to buy double sided heavy duty tape for a coat rack. Immediately upon entering, one of the workers greeted me and asked me if I needed help. Even though I was there to buy tape, the man actually recommended using screws - even though the screws were cheaper! Great customer service. Will come again for my hardware needs. read more

This is one of a vanishing breed--a hardware store that sells hardware, not aluminum lawn chairs and matching drink holders, as they do in the suburbs. This is an urban hardware store. The Brothers and their staff are chipper and friendly. They know what's what and what you need even when you don't know the name for it. A various times I've needed a tap [for cutting threads], paint items,keys, Gorilla Glue, hi-grade sandpaper and a lot of other stuff, and I always got it quickly and at a fair price. Can you imagine how great it would be if other institutions were this good--airlines, say? Or government? Excuse me for dreaming. read more

This is the best Hardware Store in New York City. I normally find hardware stores unfriendly and intimidating. The staff was warm and friendly. They didn't pressure me into anything but were quick to give helpful opinions when I needed help choosing between two items. They have an endless supply of materials, knowledge and enthusiasm.
