This store is named well. In theory, it sounds like a wonderful idea a local hardware store, open 24h. In a pinch its great. It is basically self service, the people here truly do not care and the level of service is so low that it would be easier and less work to walk to the Home Depot further away which makes me sad as i want to support small business but this place is a real mixed bag of NUTS. I've been to the store twice and they are so unhelpful. I was looking for a specific lightbulb and the first time I had to wait 15 minutes while he talked to his co-worker and once he was available, he was reluctant to help me find the one I needed. My second visit, the guy wouldn't even get out from behind the counter. His comment, 'If it's not on the shelf we don't have it.' I am not a contractor, just a regular person looking for a specific lightbulb and they were no help whatsoever. Very disappointing as I like to support local businesses. Just an FYI, don't refill your sodastream canisters here as they will overcharge you by almost $20. No lie. They will literally try to charge the same price ($35 with tax) for a refill as they will for a full canister ($35 with tax). If you complain and are willing to wait around for 20-30 minutes they will eventually charge you the correct price and blame it on their new system. But this has happened twice now over 4 months now so that seems suss. Weird misogynistic bros working here for real, I told my wife I couldn't deal with them anymore so. Stupidly sent her in, but they tried to rip her off. Obviously the price of shipping is better than being ripped off. read more

Have been coming to Nuthouse Hardware for about 15 years, since discovering it. Although I shop at Home Depot or Target for things when I already know what I'll need, the friendly professional team at Nuthouse have been extremely knowledgable and helpful when trying to solve problems. Importantly, they're open 24/7, and there are times you need that! It's an awesome local business with relatively good prices and a great selection, including some harder to find items. Yes, there may be items you can find cheaper on Amazon or elsewhere, but Nuthouse Hardware provides a service that New York City desperately needs to have - especially if you require something at night and can't wait. In addition, Nuthouse has a nice houseware section on the 2nd floor. Example - A few years ago, relatively deeper snow melted and refroze over the weekend. When I arrived at my car parked on street to head to work, I found my tires wedged in ice about 7 inches deep. After taking the Metro North and a taxi back and forth to work, it was apparent that my tires weren't going to be freed naturally anytime during the remainder of the workweek. That night, reached out to Nuthouse where they prescribed ice melter and a long-handle hoe. Rushed down that night to pick them up and, after 2 days of following their instructions, was able to free my car. (An overdue thank you, Nuthouse team!) Glad there's Nuthouse Hardware! After waiting a bit an older guy perched at end of counter paused from eating and directed me to 'ask the guy in the hat' whom just looked at me and walked off hearing the whole convo. After a few min a nice young black kid asked if I need help, as I waited for him to look for the screw in back, I witnessed the older guy answer the phone multiple times telling all callers he was slammed helping 3 other people, giving the store website hanging up, and then went back to snaking on something. Not sure what store employees were doing, but it was made clear they did not want to be bothered or assist. Poor guy came in wanting to buy an ac unit and the older guy clearly aggravated seemed to discouraged costumer from purchasing, was the strangest thing. If I could give it a negative 100 I would. Came here to get a key cut (for a 2nd time - BIG MISTAKE). Got home to check the key worked and of course it didn't. So went back to the shop to let them know. Of course they play dumb like they have never seen me (it was only a 10 mins ago when I saw them) and they act like I am wrong and I made a mistake. I showed then the keys didn't line up and they really tried to sell it that it was the same- despite me saying it didn't work. Ask for my money back and of course they move and a snails pace asking me for a receipt (thank god I asked for one) because if I didn't they would have refused me. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. I completely forgot the same scenario had happened to me regarding a key cut and that time I couldn't get a refund for bad work because they all of a sudden acted like they had never seen me. I bought an apartment in the neighbourhood about five years ago, and I used to come here for hardware supplies, mainly to support a small business in my neighbourhood. Sadly, the customer service has really declined over the past few years. Tonight's episode takes the cake. I doubt I'll go back. There are several small hardware stores close by, and the lure of 24 hour-a-day-access to hardware supplies is not worth the lack of knowledge and horrible customer service the Nuthouse now demonstrates. About six months ago, I bought a quart of paint from them, to have on hand for touch-ups. I went to use it today, and found that the paint had separated completely out, though it was still usable. They hadn't provided me with any stir sticks when I bought my paint, so I had nothing to stir it with. "No problem," I thought. "I'll just head over there and ask them to give it a shake on their paint-shaker." Big mistake. You would have thought that I was asking them to sacrifice their first born child. First, the staff member told me I needed a reciept, but changed his tune when I pointed out there was a label on the can with Nuthouse Hardware on it, since they had mixed up the paint colour for me. He begrudgingly took it and asked why I didn't just shake it at home. I told him it was too separated to shake effectively by hand, and that I had nothing to stir it with at my apartment. What should have been a relatively simple task seemed to take an inordinately long time, because no one seemed to know how to operate the paint-shaker. Additionally, the demeanor of the three staff members involved seemed to indicate that I was taking up their valuable time, which before I gave them my request, seemed to consist of standing around talking to one another. While I was waiting, they also stood around making smart-mouthed remarks about me, like "Oh, he wants it shaken, not stirred..." In order to not have to trouble them again if the paint separated out again, I asked if I could have a couple of stir sticks to take home (which every other hardware store I have ever gone to provides for free with any paint purchase.) Once again they acted as though this was an unheard-of request, couldn't seem to find any stir sticks, said they didn't have any, and one of them was even reaching into a bin of what looked like off-cuts of quarter round, as if he was going to break a piece of that off to give to me. I just told them it was fine, and left. I would definitely not recommend this business. There are plenty of other hardware stores in the neighbourhood, with far more knowledgeably and helpful staff. 24 hours a day notwithstanding, this place deserves to go out of business if that's the level of knowledge and customer service they provide read more

I wish I could rate this store half a star. The rudest and least welcoming staff who act like they're bothered to even scan your items let alone grab something from the back for you. Although 24/7 service and delivery are posted everywhere online and on their delivery van, they do not deliver at night but will still let you check out online for a 2-hour delivery window and charge you for such. If you need to return an item you might as well punch yourself in the dick and accept the loss. They've managed to be assholes to me in person, online and over the phone at every time of the day so at least they're consistent. read more

This store is fantastic and has just about everything you could possibly need hardware wise - plus more! This review is really for the owner to see. I have lived in this neighborhood for 30 years. Your store is great and so convenient that it's open 24 hours. Some of the employees are knowledgeable and helpful. However, most of the employees behave in an extremely rude manner. Very argumentative and disagreeable. Their attitude and comments are abusive. Last time I was there I just told them off and left. It's a great hardware store and it seems to me some of the staff think they don't need to provide a scintilla of courtesy. Dreadful experience going there recently. Totally uncalled for behavior on the part of your staff member. I think you should have a serious conversation with your employees about how they should be interacting with the customers. I asked very simple questions that were met with contemptuous replies. I shopped here countless times over the past 30 because it's convenient and open all night. However in future I will make the trek to Home Depot. I will not spend a single nickel in your store again due to worst customer service I have ever experienced in a hardware store - and that's a pretty low bar. Because there is no hardware store nearby, and it is New York City. I stopped by to buy parts today. The price of the parts was initially he said to be 450 dollars. I was surprised and asked how much it was and he said 230 dollars. (This price is much higher than the price sold online) And I want to buy with $230 + tax. But, He said he couldn't sell the product because he had to ask the manager. Why did you waste my time so much? And why are you mad at me? Bought 2 gas connectors here last night, the knowledge & selection are tops. I think the connectors only included 1 of the 2 needed nut rings though to no fault of Nuthouse. I was searching for this connector late last night by calling Bleckman's Ace Hardware who recommended I call here, a member of the True Value brand. They've a huge selection, very knowledgable staff who seem like long-time hardware folks, all with a gentle listening demeanor (unlike so many Manhattan retailers), and a vast selection literally spanning wall-to-wall floor-to-ceiling. I give this business thee stars. During the late night, I would give it five stars when the staff is wonderfully helpful. The woman who works then mixed paint perfe ctly..PERFECTLY...after eye-balling an object I brought in and wanted to match. She spent time helping me find a great solution to plumbing issue. She asked the right question and delivered a great idea. The day crew should get 0 stars. They are surly, rude and act like they are doing you a favor. Many staples of their business are upstairs off limits to browsing. You have to ask someone to retrieve what you want without the benefit of browsing options. If they return with the wrong thing or you think of something else they get upset with you. I was literally told I needed to come in with a complete list and know what I wanted. Have they never heard of up-selling or unplanned purchases? It's like they don't want to sell you anything and you are the problem for walking in wanting to spend money. I live near the Nuthouse and will never return due to the fact that they rip you off at every turn. It is great that they are in the neighborhood, open all night, etc - but they charge insane prices for basic stuff. I bought a mattress bag for $6.04 (with tax). BUYERS BEWARE!! Horrible customer service. Every time I go in there it takes so long to find someone to help me even though there are at least 5 employees standing around talking to one another. The experience I had today takes the cake on horrible customer experiences, however, and I will not be returning. I purchased a new shower head because the one I already owned stopped working. I think "no worries, I'll just go over to my local hardware store and support a local biz". I thought wrong!! I bought a shower head that didn't have a sticker on it by mistake but they decide to charge me $52 for it - quite a ripoff. I'm a little annoyed by this but hey I need a working shower head! I go home, install it, and what do I find? A shower head with potentially the worst pressure I've ever experienced. I immediately purchase a new one off Amazon (not taking any more chances at Nuthouse), install it once it comes, and what do you know? Amazing water pressure yet again. I traipse on over back to Nuthouse to return the original shower head and hope that I'll at least receive store credit (the shower head is in its box - albeit opened - but all the parts are there and I have the receipt in hand). The manager tells me I cannot return it and it's not their fault I bought a bad product ???? But it's their fault for stocking a bad product. They refuse to even give me store credit or do anything about the fact that they carried such a crappy product. Needless to say I will not be returning.
