Gartner's is a staple of the UWS! I come here all the time for small things I need around my apartment and refills for my soda stream canisters. The staff is really helpful and they get me in and out quickly. read more

I have been shopping here for fifty years. Rarely, like maybe I need an odd color of paint, do I go to that hardware store uptown. Also, the sales people put up with my awful French. Most kind of them. Diane read more

Great Store. Much larger than the other store. If they don't have it, you don't need it.

They sold me the wrong replacement toilet flusher, which wasted hours of my time and caused needless confusion and stress because it had inaccurate instructions on how to remove the prior flusher. The salespeople were dismissive when I pointed that the one they selected didn't look like the one I was replacing, and they didn't ask any questions about brands or model numbers. When I came back because of the difficulties resulting from the inaccurate instructions, they sold me pliers I wouldn't have needed if I had been given the proper part. When I came back a third time, they were defensive instead of apologetic for selling me an incompatible part and wouldn't accept a return for the pliers I would never have bought but for their misinformation. I would have been better off consulting Google, which found the proper part. Notably, their response here is based on lies or someone else's experience. Completely untrue. I hadn't picked a model on my own, they didn't stop me from buying a model, and they weren't misled by photos since I brought in the broken part. I relied solely on them, to my detriment. The only true statement is that their return policy is clearly posted. Their customer service is abysmal, and they lie about you if you post an honest and accurate review. As a result they have lost long-term customers. We will never return. read more

Walked in, got two keys duplicated, walked out - less than 5 mins and less than $8 total. Good stuff!

This THE BEST HARDWARE STORE on UWS. New location expanded and literally has anything you can think of. Helpful sales team

Given the performance on Saturday, I am not surprised to read this unpleasant and unprofessional response from Gartner's. It is a complete untruth that someone "assured" me that they could do the job. In fact, the employee, Abdul, explicitly stated - and I pressed him on this - that he could NOT do the job. I also spoke to someone called Baba, who said he was very busy and did not have time to look into the matter. About an hour later, I had a phone call from Baba - he had the nerve to use my personal phone number to call me to object to the Yelp review, which he somehow found time to read despite being so busy that he couldn't help me. I'm afraid it's a new era - you can't treat customers this way now and expect to get away with it without anybody else knowing. read more

Best hardware store in the area. They have EVERYTHING. Plant supplies, travel charger adapters, cooking utensils, fans, hoses, etc etc. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Amazing place. 10/10. read more

Local well run store with everything you need. Everyone is helpful and I always get what I need within a few minutes.

When I first moved to this neighborhood 29 years ago, Gartner's was the place and hardware store where I was able to find "anything and everything" I needed to put my apartment together. Well, it still is! They have everything, and their prices are excellent too. If you want light bulbs, rubber bath mats, tools, appliances, window shades, and cleaning products, Gartner's will have what you need. They do a great job of making keys, repairing lamps and other appliances with a fast turnaround. I am very fond of Baba, the manager, who is the most omniscient and kindest shopkeeper around. he rest of the staff is very knowledgeable and courteous. Our neighborhood has lost far too many businesses due to high rents. Please make sure you patronize Gartner's Hardware. You will be glad that you did! read more

I've lived on the UWS for 47 years and have always been a customer of Gartners. I needed expert removal of 3 ACs, installation of 3, and proper disposal of 2. I asked Baba, the long-time head man at Gartners, if he had a technician who could do the job. He sent John, who completed the work in 45 minutes and cleaned up after himself. Baba's expertise with years of helping customers and John's expert super-fast work made my day. Ask Baba whenever you need hardware and hire john for AC installation and removal. Their remarkable attention to my needs made my day. GO TO GARTNER'S! read more

I was looking for a specific tiny set screw and to my amazement they had it in stock!

I have moved from the city, but I lived on the UWS for very many years. Gartner's was by far my favorite hardware store in the neighborhood. The staff was always very helpful, providing top customer service, and most especially--kind and friendly. They are simply the nicest hardware store to conduct business with. This is what makes a neighborhood a neighborhood. Thank you so much for always making me feel at home when I dropped by! read more

Great service keys made. They know their stock. Gracious help I was looking for soil and gravel. Someone walked me to them.

The best hardware store in NYC. I've been coming here for five years and they consistently deliver. They always have whatever I'm looking for. The store is extremely well run; organized and stocked better than any other hardware I've been too. Always clean and ready to help. The staff is knowledge and quick to help you find exactly what you need. I've wasted so much time at Home Depot in the past only to come here and have solution delivered in a few minutes. Highly recommend! read more

Buyer beware--though their receipts say they accept returns "with the original packaging," this business denied my return of a product that didn't work for me because the package was opened. Heck of a practice for people doing often tricky home repairs. I wanted to support a local business but sadly this is where the big chains win. read more

Don't go to this hardware store. They have a very strange return policy and won't take back unboxed items with a receipt and only purchased 2 days ago. Not great customer care as I was mislead by the cashier to buy a particular tool for a project after describing the task in detail, but after getting home realized it wasn't right for the job so when I went back to return I was denied. Seems shady and a scam. read more

Very helpful knowledgeable folks. Head there tirst then Al Home Depot is the last resort. And, if you went to Hime Depot first and did not find it, Gardner''s probably has it. So a trip to G's will save you oodles of time. read more

I had a very bad experience with Gartners recently. I purchased a laundry drying rack, but the pictures on the pckage did not adequately describe how one uses the rack. When I assembled it, I very quickly found out that it would not fit in my bathtub. When I tried to return or exchange it, I was told that without the original plastic packaging the sale was final. Of course, I didn't know that it wouldn't work until I removed the packaging. They adamantly refused my attempt to return or exchange it. This is my last interaction with Gartners, and I will notify my friends and family of their unreasonable policies. There are many other hardware stores in the neighborhood, and they will enjoy my business from now on. read more

As a result of COVID-19, my wife and I ended up doing a lot of the construction work at our Downtown Brooklyn spa. Neither of us particularly experienced, mind you. It's no exaggeration to say we could not have done it without the generous and patient assistance of everyone at Gartner's Hardware. We are eternally grateful! read more

They were SO helpful. Had dishwasher outlet issue. The son's owner Abdul took a look at my pics and immediately knew what I needed. He directed me to the right part and explained how it could be cut to fit. Could not find the comparable item online as I needed rubber material and not flexible PVC as rubber would absorb the vibrations better - or so they say. Reasonable prices also!! Hope I don't need to, but would come back! Highly recommended and grateful they are in the neighborhood! read more

This has become my first-choice hardware store in the UWS because they almost always have whatever it is I'm looking for and are very helpful. read more

I absolutely love this hardware store! The customer service is excellent and they literally have anything that you are looking for. I am also so happy to support a local business on the UWS. Highly recommend them for all your home needs! read more

The staff was polite and well informed. I was redoing a bathroom and they were enormously helpful. So nice to go to a store where the employees know the products they're selling and can help steer you in the right direction! read more

Super friendly and have a wide variety of hardware items. Although they didn't have the size of the item I needed, (black grout) they still had it in a larger size. The prices are double than in Hone Depot, but it's because NYC rents are too high and they aren't buying the quantity that HD is buying - so, at least I'm supporting local businesses. Last but not least, the guys that work here are AWESOME! Super helpful and patient. I would def come here again. read more

I called Gartner's on a Sunday to have an apartment a/c installed, and they did it on Tuesday. Very responsive, and job was professionally done by Angel. He was very personable and knowledgeable. We have been enjoying the a/c ever since, especially on those very hot July days! I highly recommend Gartner's. Reed W. read more

They do soda stream gas bottle exchange and are always really helpful with my random hardware requests

I could write a lot about how amazing this place is. Suffice it to say, I've needed lots of things for the home, from hardware to tools to housewares, to advice, and Gartner's has never failed me. Staff are super knowledgable and friendly, and miles ahead of big box stores. It will be a huge loss if they ever leave. read more

Com'n! You're complaining about the prices at this corner Hardware store after Gracious Home and Lowe's have abandoned the neighborhood and Beacon was forced out of business?! Is this the same store that has knowledgeable staff with a huge variety of items packed into a tiny store that stays open during the virus crisis? Be grateful they are there, and stay open, and have a 7 DAY money back refund policy. Give it up that these guys are not going to have Home Depot prices! They do have a more organized stock of items than HD! Appreciate that they are even there, much less open when you need them. And know you can take a walk across the park to get those HD prices whenever you want to express your options! read more

Considering the neighborhood saved this store, you'd think they would be less rude, with better customer service and more aware of how to treat people. I won't go back unless I'm desperate. The young man behind the counter today was unacceptable on all levels. We now have choices. Gartners is not mine. read more

5 stars for: * Being open later than the other hardware shops in the area * Had some keys made. Just moved into the neighborhood, and I'm so glad that this hardware store is here. Yes, these guys are knowledgeable and helpful and have So Many things! I have an old door lock (1902ish) and needed an old key ... so i went to a locksmith on 72nd street and asked him if i could try one of the hundreds of old keys on his chain and he said NO ... then he said i'd have to leave the lock (which i removed from my bedroom door) and he'd charge me $25 to test it and then charge me to Make a key ... what a load! Lol! I knew better .... Then i walked down the street to Gartner's and he pulled out some keys and the 2nd one worked, he charged me 6 dollars! ------- Another time I needed to connect 2 internet cables for a computer, i went to AT&T's store and they said no, but to try Gartner's and sure enough they understood what i was looking for (technical term: coupler) and They Had It! Love these guys! Please support a local instead of the huge corporate chain stores ... :) read more

They have EVERYTHING and know where it is in that tiny jammed pack store!! My husband and I have this long running wager to see which of us will be first to need something they don't carry..10 years so far and neither one of us has collected on this bet. Thank GOODNESS for Gartners! This tiny hardware store is jam-packed with literally anything you could need. I would often try other stores that were closer and wind up empty-handed, only to try Gartners and of course it's in there! If you haven't been, don't be intimidated by the dense inventory--just tell the staff at the counter what you need and 9 times out of 10 they have options for you. Great local business. read more

Gartner's was very helpful when I needed a certain color tape. They were helpful and friendly on the phone, and also when I went into the store. Even more impressive, when I was in front of the store, an elderly woman came up. Someone came out and helped lift up her rolling walker. When she left, they came out and also helped her to get down the tiny step. Impressive kindness and well stocked store. read more

We have regularly shopped at Gantner's for many years; they stock a staggering amount of items in a small space and the staff are extremely knowledgable about what might best suit our needs. Recently, one of the two sockets in a 40-year old lamp stopped working; it looked to our eye as if the contact point within one socket had burned out. When we took the lamp to Gantner's to find a replacement socket, they volunteered that the lamp needed to be rewired and both sockets replaced and they would do the entire job for a reasonable price. Two hours later, we came back and picked up the repaired lamp. Great service, great price. read more

My go to hardware store in the UWS. Great service and staff that is willing to help me pick out the right equipment. I'm not the greatest when it comes to shopping for the right nails or bolts for home improvement so I really appreciate the time the staff takes to make sure I get the right item. Everything is very reasonably priced as well. read more
