While I was away on winter break, I had some people work in my apartment. When I came back, I was pleasantly surprised to find everything in order. The problem was that the lock on my door became loose. I went with a DIY route, and came to this hardware store. I've been to this store before, when I needed miscellaneous hardware. The workers here have always been helpful and friendly, and I was always able to find what I was looking for. This time was no exception. I found the tools I needed, checked out, and headed back home. I was able to fix what I needed, and carry on with my prep before my school semester started. Bought 5" curved jaw locking pliers on 04/12/21 at 6:45 PM. Pliers remained unopened as they ended up not being needed. No refund policy was posted. Returned on the 04/20/21 to buy other goods and proffered the unopened and unused tool to the store which refused to a refund or exchange of any kind. I requested a copy of their return policy. They hand none. The sales person says "the owner refuses any refunds or exchanges on tools even if unused or unopened." This is against the law in New York. The store is a rip off. read more

Don't even think about buying from this store. They aggressively target customers who need advice. When a customer asks for assistance, I swear, a light registers behind their eyes because now they've got you. They steered me to buy the wrong thing , refused to take it back and said if they did the money was still theirs as they only begrudgingly will exchange the item, no matter if they have it, you leave with nothing but a credit from a bunch a thief's. read more

No idea why this place has such a low rating, perhaps management has changed in the years since the negative reviews were made. But I can definitely say that this place is awesome now. They are incredibly knowledgeable and also try super hard to get you the best you need without spending a ton of money. They actually talked me out of spending money on a more expensive option because a cheaper one was totally fine for what I needed (and they said worked better). Every time I come in, it makes me want to find more home projects to do, just so I can come back again! read more

if possible the most incompetent hardware store in NYC.....they have no knowledge of their goods --I used their handyman to install blinds..the guy broke 4 out of 5 by installing all but one incorrectly, kept stating the quality of blinds was poor, was very scary...had no idea how to do, was nasty, and smelled of alcohol...plus the store took no responsibility for his work!!!! also, reached out to store, since only one in neighbor hood for replacement keys (didn't have -guy on weekend took chance and used similar one)-- didn't work..plus could not answer simple questions regarding repairs ie. paint for heating pipes, simple stain for furniture -all items they sell--KEEP AWAY...or please someone open store that caters to growing neighborhood.... read more

I've used this hardware store various times over the last two years. Each time the customer service has been lacking, but I kept going back due to its convenience. I recently visited the store to make copies of two different keys. After 20 minutes the clerk who said he would be able to make two of each key, returned and said they couldn't make a copy of one of the two keys. So I have him 1 key to make two copies of. Thinking nothing of it I left the store with my purchase including, my original And two copies. Weeks later I realized one of the keys worked and the other didn't. I returned to the store today to get them to fix the key that obviously wasn't cut correctly and the clerk refused. He told me they were different keys so he couldn't fix them. (Obviously they were different, hence my babysitter getting locked out!) Instead he offered to fix the undamaged key (what?!?!). He also wouldn't admit to any error, even though he confirmed both keys were made at his establishment. He used condescending phrases like "what don't you understand?" And at one point covered his ears. Throughout the conversation I remained polite, but I was given so such respect. Sadly, out of sheer desperation for my babysitter to have a key, and the fact that I had brought my 1 year old out of the house, I purchased a new third key. Last purchase there! I urge you to go to Mushtari Hardware on 125th. They are kind, knowledgeable and their shelves are well-stocked. Now, regardless of it being farther I will go there. read more

Very friendly neighborhood hardware store. Prices are a bit more than a big box store like Home Depot but I'd much rather support this little brick and mortar shop that has been serving the neighborhood for many years. Very nice guys. read more

Came in here to get hoping they had a heater in the winter because the gas in my cousins building was off for a month not only did they have a great quality one but the price didn't dent my pockets very convenient place and the gentlemen that directed me to the portable heater was very friendly they even had electric stove tops and coffee machines who would of thought awesomeness read more

I've tried other hardware stores in the neighborhood and they don't compare when it comes to products or service. Definitely my go-to place. This place is the WORST! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. These guys convinced me to buy a basin wrench when I said I just needed a crescent wrench. I got home and saw that the basin wrench would not do the job, so I turned around and went right back to the store. I never even removed the wrench from the plastic clamshell packaging. They also sold me some screw on nuts to hold the sink in place. I told them at the time that they looked too small, and they told me that the nuts were universal and fit all sinks. Anyhow, when I returned to the store, intent upon returning the items to replace them with what I actually needed, they refused to take them back, saying that store policy was not to take tools back. Mind you, this was about 45 minutes after I had purchased the items, and they were all still in their original packages. This business was more concerned about pocketing my $15 or so than all of my future business and the business of the other supers on my block. I think that's very telling about what kind of place this is and what kind of shape they're in as a business. I'll never shop here again, and I want to make sure every potential customer now has fair warning to stay as far from this place as possible. There's another hardware store on 122nd and Lenox that will treat you a lot better, and the Home Depot in the Bronx is just up the road across the 145th Street Bridge. There are also hardware stores on 125th and 6th Ave., 126th and 8th Ave., and several on the west side. Your time and money is much better spent at those places. read more
