I have been unable to make copies of my apartment keys and the FOB that came with the keys when I rented my apartment. I was on Fulton street and walked into this store that I accidentally found while in the area. I walked in requesting a copy of my keys and the owner asked if I wanted him to make only a copy of my keys and why not the FOB, too? I told him that he couldn't do that and that only my building could. The owner reassured me that he had all the equipment in that store and he would be able to CLONE my FOB so I'd have an extra set of keys and a FOB just in case I lost my original ones. He was right! I live in Brooklyn and when I got home even the FOB worked. This place gave me great customer service and really came through. They certainly know what they are doing. One of the few hardware stores in lower manhattan, so off to a good start. They make keys, and it's one of those cool, windy, cramped stores with shelves up to the ceiling. Staff are the exact level of helpful -- they care enough to help you make sure you're buying the right thing, but not so much that you forget you're in NYC, where caring is for losers. they make doing home construction a pleasure - sure it seems chaotic but these guys know everything and can find anything in that store. when I didn't meet the card minimum and needed to get my tv mounted that night they printed me a receipt and said you pay next time for these bolts - go mount your tv! of course I returned to pay with more items I needed and all was right. At another construction snafu, I realized I needed anchors instead of toggle bolts. I called 7 minutes to closing and then ran - they already had the item at the counter - I checked out, they locked the door behind me, and I went home happy (doesn't it suck when you just need one thing to finish the job and the store is closed? not with fulton hardware!) I just feel so taken care of by them :) Yes, you could find items cheaper but when you buy a 1k tv and a $150 mount are you really sweating the $6 vs $10 worth of hardware? it's $4 difference and they make sure it's perfect and no shipping. (also I bought the same toggle bolts and washers and drill bit of a kit online that was 17.99 - all hardware separately from fulton? 14.49. so sometimes it's cheaper!) they cut wood (including ripping plywood sheets!) and have a nifty screw identifier so if you bring any screw they can find the same width - metric or imperial! read more

I needed a Torx 6 screwdriver to unscrew the back of a new laptop I had just bought so I called the store and they confirmed that they had it in stock. I went into the store and was helped by Employee #1 who handed me the screwdriver and I went home two blocks away to see if it would fit. Unfortunately it didn't, so I went back to the store ten minutes later. I bring my laptop with me to see if they may possibly help me. I tell the Boss the screwdriver didn't fit and I was wondering if he would be able to help. He responds "You called about the Torx 6 and you got it, why are you back?" I explain again and Employee #1 starts bringing out Torx screwdriver sets that had a number of sizes which would be helpful for me. I ask for a refund for the screwdriver I originally bought as my father has gotten refunds from this store before. The Boss tells me no refunds are allowed and that was totally fine as I just wanted to exchange the tool that I used for literally a second to check if it would fit into the screw. Employee #2 questions me about getting a refund and inspects the tool and says that its "used". I explain to him that I bought the tool just ten minutes prior and that I only wanted to get store credit so that I could purchase a more expensive screwdriver set that Employee #1 had brought out. I point out that it says on the receipt that store credit was allowed. Both employees don't really respond and one of them says its up to his Boss. The Boss refuses to give me store credit to purchase the set. It was quite unfortunate that the store would not allow me to return a $5 screwdriver for store credit to purchase a pricier alternative. I bought the screwdriver literally ten minutes prior and used it for a second to see if it would fit in the screw. The screwdriver came in the original condition that it was sold to me. Terrible customer service and definitely not a good way to retain local customers that are trying to support the store. read more

While employed in the Financial Downtown District at a non-profit organization once upon a lifetime ago, Fulton Supply & Hardware duplicated one key while I waited for approx. five minutes. I had another key to be duplicated as instructed by my former abominable manager and salvage chief executive officers, which Fulton Supply were, disappointedly, unable to replicate. This business calls themselves a hardware store? I think not! The hardware dude's hands were extremely swimming with soot, grease oil as it appears since Fulton Supply were first established. Behind the cash wrap counter is a shrine of keys on a wall adorned of all sizes from minuscule to gargantuan in brass, cooper, aluminum metal types. Patrons who are fascinated with metal and keys should check out Fulton Supply's key shrine, be sure to dress in painting clothes as this hardware store is disgustingly filthy, dark and shabby. read more

Went here on a whim to try to avoid a trip to Home Depot and it was totally worth it. I needed pipes cut and threaded; despite being such a tiny spot they had exactly what I needed and could cut the pipe/thread it at whatever length was needed. Pretty expensive hardware store but I understand it's because of location. Have come here a few times in a bind. One time for a telescopic mirror and keys. Well they had the telescopic mirror which I needed for hidden space where you can't see. I couldn't wait too order it on amazon needed it like yesterday. My co worker broke the mirror off the stick not even 10 minutes after I handed it to other co worker. Literally ripped mirror off welded joints. Don't ask me how? Any who they also cut keys which came in handy cause I needed one for my job. Service was fast and friendly plus they take debit or credit cards. All in all good experience. Shop was very tight but had a lot of supplies for a store that size. Most of the people I met were very friendly. Only reason I took of one start was because one person grabbed my phone out of my hand because it rang and apparently it was too much of a distraction for him. I came here about 20 minutes before they were closing and asked if they could make a copy of my key. The guys that were working were extremely nice and were joking around with me because they could tell I had no idea what I was doing. I asked to make 2 keys and they did it in about 5 minutes. The CC minimum was $5. If you are looking for something specific, don't bother looking for it, just ask them to point to where it is. And then the manager wasted my time for an hour with their archaic computer systems and his bulkshit service. I was just looking to get my apartment keys duplicated and this place did it in about a minute! Each key cost $0.98 to copy since they were the most basic kind of key. (Price will vary depending on type of key) Such a good price considering key kiosks located inside CVS or Rite Aid will charge upwards of $6 a copy. The store itself is a bit crowded and the aisles are small, but I was able to get what I needed very quickly and efficiently. Storefront is easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled! read more

This is a great store if you want to do DIY, the staff will go out of their way to explain and suggest how to do things. For a concrete example: for hanging paintings, they have a set small very thin nails that doesn't damage the wall. Also: hangers that fit on top of the doors without damaging the door. Reading the one star reviews seems like they are not even from the same store. They have such a packed store that it is always worth a trip to see what is new! read more

Pros- Very helpful people (I actually forgot my wallet when I went and they were very gracious about it), their selection of items per category isn't huge, but there's something for whatever you need. Let's start by saying that there were miscommunications. But the service and customer service in this place is TERRIBLE. My supervisor called the store to ask for the price of making keys. Apparently, she said $0.95 but I heard $0.75. When I got to the store, I gave Employee A the keys, then I realized I should make sure it was the price that they told us on the phone. Employee A says it's $1.25 so I told him we were told $0.75 on the phone. Employee A asked employee B. Employee B concluded that if that was what I was told then it's $0.75. STILL, nowhere in the conversation that they mentioned different keys costs different price. So for someone who knows nothing about keys assumes that all keys are the same price. They continued making the keys because I thought I was going to pay $0.75 per key. When I was about to PAY, employee C tries to explain to me that the STARTING price is $0.95 and never $0.75. He said that key SC# costs $0.95 and key SC# costs $1.25. He then goes on explaining how much it costs to make keys in other stores in Manhattan and that they charge $25 or $50 for some keys. FIRST, of all, I walked all the way to the store in the freezing cold because of the price we confirmed on the phone. SECOND, when there was first an issue with the price, employee B said if $0.75 was what I was told then it's $0.75. THIRD, if I had known that they were going to charge me other prices other than $0.75, I would have to STOP them from making the keys and went elsewhere. I understand that this place may be cheaper than other places but I DO NOT want to do business with any businesses that go back on their words. This is DECEIVING!!! FOURTH, mentioning SC# does not help me understand why you are charging different prices. Telling me other places charges more and that you charge $25 or $50 for some keys still does not resolve the issue at hand, that you are charging me MORE than I was promised (at the store) FIFTH, when Employee C was explaining, there was a lot of HOSTILITY. I felt VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. At that point, I wanted to leave, but I had a feeling that if I do not pay for the keys, they will not give me my keys back. This type of customer service is RIDICULOUS and UNACCEPTABLE. Yes, they do charge cheaper than other places. But the biggest issue I have with this store is how they did business and how they treated their customers. read more

This is an excellent hardware store - it is small space but it is jam-packed with variety. I work in an office nearby and went here to get some fittings for a closet i was upgrading, they had a better choice than their nearest competitor and were really friendly. The price was fine to me - this is Manhattan after all and it is small shop not a giant warehouse. All staff were helpful and and attentive, knowledgeable and friendly - and clean. read more

I went to Fulton Hardware today looking for a basic 5-gallon bucket. One guy rang me up while the other went in the back to get the bucket, and when he came back out he had a flimsy bucket that probably holds 3 gallons. They then condescendingly tried to convince me that this is what every 5 gallon bucket looks like, even after I google image searched to show them the difference. I ended up asking for my money back. Assuming I don't know anything simply because I'm young/female is an incredibly poor business practice, and trying to con me based on that assumption is despicable.
