Tiny hardware store on Bayard st. It surprisingly had a ton of hardware items for sale, and while it looks a little dated, I take that as a sign of its authenticity and professionalism. They were able to make copies of our door keys (the special ones with holes in them); while they weren't cheap ($17 each), they did work correctly. Only took about 5 minutes of waiting. read more

The owner use to be pretty cool back then when he first opened, always willing to socialize and was always a pleasure to talk to. However, as years gone by he started to get more grumpy and will NEVER say a word to you unless you don't speak to him. I came here the other day to copy 2 keys (where I'm sure I got overcharged) , cash out a few lottery tickets and not a single word was said to me. Not even a hello, thank you.. NOTHING. This guy use to be cool but now, a total jackwagon. Lack of business? There's always that one loser customer in there scratching his life away with lottery tickets and the owner will literally drop everything he does just to accomodate him. I came here on a whim after not being able to get a simple key cut at the big box stores. Was down the street grabbing dinner. Bonus points: opened late on a Monday (Memorial Day), took one look at my key and pulled three blanks and had my keys cut precisely within a couple of minutes. Did I tell you I went to the two big box stores? Their key experts there couldn't tell a blank from a hole in the wall. The big store method is to take your key, stick it in a machine and it tells them the blank to use. Well, problem is, the big box store machine said my key was a car key (which it is not/pictured). I then tried the minuteman machine and it said they didn't have the blanks. I wasted 45 mins on these useless big box stores and I knew coming to a family owned establishment with a true expert would get the job done. And the man is skilled like a true w locksmith/hardware key maker. They also sell hardware and other misc items in the store including lotto. Need a key made? They are able to speak English very well, though there was some confusion when I initially asked for a needle nose plier and they said they didn't have any; when I grabbed another set of pliers and asked if there was a smaller one, they then pointed me to the ... needle nose pliers. Extremely overpriced for duplicating keys. I went there to duplicate 2 simple basic keys. The owner quoted me $10. I then went to another hardware store on Division Street, at the back of Confucius Plaza. I got it done for $3.50 for the exact same keys. This store charges 3x more in comparison. I was walking by when I saw their animated print keys and I couldn't resist but to go in. Bayard Hardware may seem like a tiny Chinese hardware store but their services is above and beyond. They have young English speaking and Chinese associates who ask what you need help immediately when you enter the store. Keys resemble home and for me I was looking unique keys to switch to. Here I found some many designs and numerous of of Disney key blanks. Even more options than Walmart, Home Depot,Lowe and other Hardware stores that I've been to. They were all so cute,it was literally so hard to choose from. It was $8 for Mickey Mouse key blank, it may seem pricey but I will be using for at least 10 years or more. They definitely have the cuter selection of key blanks. But he charged me $10 each for 2 keys. I remember a few years back, it was only 7-8$. Even Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes & etc are only $5.88 before tax for cute cartoon key blanks.. But to spend 20$ on two keys.. had they not have that specific character key that I was looking for.. I probably would've ordered key blanks myself online and then paid another hardware shop for the labor. Honestly this is will be my last time going to them. read more

Amazing, fantastic service. Needed a key duplicated for our mailbox... Our local Home Depot said they would be able to do it without getting special blanks and of course it didn't work. We did buy the blanks afterwards and I found this place on Yelp. Came in, the nice guy took our keys, inspected them and it took 20 secs! I pass by at least 5 hardware stores to get to this one because they are the best. They are the kindest and the most honest here. Also they are the only hardware store that I've been to in Chinatown that is bilingual in Chinese and English. Even their receipts have English and Chinese descriptions, which I appreciate since that means they are up to date on their technology. Anywhere else, they probably won't even print you a receipt but if they do, it's just the prices and you don't even know which item it corresponds to. I also found that they copy keys for cheapest. One time I brought him around 10 keys to copy. It came out to $13 dollars but the sweet man (maybe owner?) saw that I already had $11 ready to pay and he just charged me $11. I even said "wait it says $13 on the register!" And he said "don't worry about it! Have a great day!"....c'mon, they literally are the best. P.S they also include key rings with key tags for free. Will never go to Home Depot again looking for parts to fix a broken lock. The guys at this shop were able to find the right part for the right lock model in 5 minutes. They even gave me a tip about changing the part out myself. And I paid way less than I would have at Home Depot. I called Home Depot with the lock model and they couldn't even look in their inventory to tell me if they had the right part in stock. Next time I will go directly to Bayard and save myself time and money. read more

If you're in the market for buying new clothes, you really wouldn't think of going to Costco for a slick new wardrobe, would you? I mean, you *can* buy clothes at Costco, but come on - you're better than that. Similarly, why get your keys made at some big box hardware store with too many departments to be real experts at key making, when you can come here to Bayard's Hardware. Key making is what they do, and being that this is the lion's share of their business, they're really good at it. Fast, efficient, a deep inventory of all kinds of keys, and a pretty nice bargain. And of the six keys I had cut, all six slid right in the lock with no problems at all. I can't remember the last time I had a perfect key cutting experience, but it happened here. Of course it may not be convenient if you live in a different area of the city, but if you're in Chinatown, Nolita, Little Italy, or Lower East Side, you should use these guys next time you need key services of your own. read more

This place is pretty great. I've never bought fancy keys before, and the staff let me spend all the time I needed to pick a few out of the overwhelming selection (even let me take photos to send to my boyfriend so he could pick too). This is particularly awesome as the space is tiny and I really really really do not like when shopkeeps follow you or try to pressure you and I am known to refuse to go to places like that. Not these guys. Super chill. So yeah they were really nice, and seemed to know all there was to know about every item in the store. I'm pretty happy with my new keys, EXCEPT my new mailbox key seems to not work :( hence four stars. They assured me I could come back if I had any issues, so I'm not too bothered by the fact that I'll have to head back to Chinatown. read more

Great place! Very accurate key copies in just a few seconds. We were worried after a mishap with a key kiosk and wanted to make sure we got our key copied correctly--glad we came to Bayard's hardware.
