Extremely rude, not helpful. I suspect this business won't be around long if this is a typical experience. Called in to ask about a pivot hinge. I asked if they had it in stock and if I could come take a look at the hinge - I need a bunch of them for a tight-space application. Over the phone, the guy demanded I buy it before looking at it because he "didn't have time" for someone who wants to look. Guess I'll look and buy somewhere else. In response to the owner, revealing second-rate customer service is part of why online review services, such as Yelp, are valuable. Have used these guys a few times for copying keys. They used to open earlier - need to update their website - but they were still able to take my keys at 8:30 AM for processing / pickup later in the day (maybe I got lucky). Other than the change in hours it's great service and no issues. read more

Was paying $25 per key for 4 keys and had $100 cash from my boss. So I had my CC to cover the rest since we didn't expect it to be so costly. First of all, the guy who cut the keys (Will) started getting worked up because I only had $100 in cash and god forbid they split the transaction. Then the head guy came over and said "what's the problem?...not you Will (apparently I was a problem before even finding out what the issue was), so I simply said, I'd like to put the tax on a the CC card please. He then starts to freak out about how he gets charged 3.25% to run a card. I get that, money isn't really an issue in this transaction, so I say, fine, add 3.25% on to the card to cover that. We can't do that he yells because it all goes to the state. Ok fine, put the total amount on the AMEX card then, forget the cash....can't seem to do that either. Um... wait...no one told me you are apparently a cash based business or I would have brought it all in cash, and I've made a $100 purchase with you but that's not good enough to warrant using a card. As you can imagine, he and I had words and he finally took $105 in cash. No loss though, the place is a ratty storage with barely room to breathe, so I won't set foot in there again. read more

DON'T SHOP HERE. They may try and cheat you, horrible service. They quoted $10.00 to make two copies of my house key. When they came back they said $10 A PIECE which is NOT what they said. When I protested, they insisted they were right. At best, even if I DID misunderstand them, they were absolutely awful in addressing my concern or even admitting they MAY have misspoke. At worse, they are cheating people by intentionally being vague and then charging a higher price. Given how horribly they treated me, I don't put it past them they are cheating people. So I just moved, and I couldn't find the keys to my little safe where I keep all my most important docs (passport, SS card, etc.). A hardware store in midtown recommended I go to AAA Architectural Hardware and I'm glad I did. As it turns out, opening that little safe I got on Amazon for $10 was not easy. But the crew there was super cool. Every employee in the store gave it a try before they finally managed to open it. They were all super friendly. Also, I know nothing about locksmith stuff, but they all seem super passionate about it. And the young woman who works there was super nice. Overall a great experience and they saved my life. They charged me $35, which I thought was fair as they spent at least a full hour on my safe. Thank you! read more

I gave them one key to make two copies of, and they made one copy that worked and one that didn't. Unfortunately I gave the copy that didn't work to my friends who were visiting, they ended up waiting for ages at my apartment door while I was finishing my investment banking long day to get in. After they had traveled all the way from Europe to come stay with me in New York...very unfortunate experience, I had to be extremely apologetic and felt so bad, and all because some guy at this place didn't copy my key correctly. read more

This store was so helpful. Everyone working here was friendly and personable. The office I'm working at had a bent key problem, so it took a few tries for these locksmiths to make copies that worked--they made all the attempts and only charged for the copies that worked! They were even willing to reimburse fully if they couldn't replicate the original. The head locksmith is competent and seems fine. But the latino guy rushed with me and ended up giving me the wrong duplicate keys. As a result i locked myself out of my apartment. It is exceedingly rare these days to find a mom and pop business in midtown Manhattan (or anywhere in Manhattan). This is that. No corporate influence, and no aproned drones who know nothing about what they're selling (like in Home Depot). These guys have been in this neighborhood forever, and are still around because there is no one else that can come close to the quality of their product and their service. Every time I need something -- a key, a new lock, a safe, they have it or they know what will work as a substitute. When I've needed the locks replaced on my home, it happens the same day and they were master-keyed so that I could give temporary keys to guests and repairmen without compromising security -- nice touch! When I needed a bunch of super-weird doorknobs, they went out and found them for me -- no extra charge. Even the simple stuff -- like a new padlock for the gym locker or my suitcase is quick and easy. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

The worst! Not only did they not make a copy, they ruined my original keys all while having a bad attitude! I went in last week to copy three keys before going out of town. I have a lot of keys so I started to take them off the key ring. I took one off before the guy barked at me to leave them on. I was thinking "ok dude, jeeze, calm down" but complied. After a minute, he had to ask again which one I wanted copied...which was why I was going to take them off. Anyway, that wasn't the problem. He took my original key and put it in the key copier side of the machine, ruining my key, and locking me out of my apartment. To top it off instead of saying he was sorry, he said it was my fault for taking the key off the ring. I understand mistakes happen, I make them all the time, but when I do I try not to blame someone else, especially if it's something in which I should be an expert.Thanks to this guy I had to sit outside my apartment (in the rain!) waiting for someone to come home and let me in (lucky there was another copy) but I'd let that go if he hadn't been a jerk. To be fair, he did offer to remake a new key for free if I came back, but I'd rather pay the $2 to not have to deal with them again read more
