Scheels / The Colony. As a child growing up on The east side of North Texas I'll never forget opening day of incredible universe in Garland. Today that location is Fry's electronics which is in it's final days before a certain death. Incredible universe was very much the type of supersized ridiculous business concept that you saw in the 90s, life sized animatronic farm animals, Texas sized sections that seem to be gargantuan just for the novelty of their size alone. They had a play place in the front for small children, sort of like IKEA does today, and they had massive interactive exhibits and all kinds of gimmicks around to give you an almost Disneyland level of immersion while having a shopping experience. I thought those days were behind us. And then I went to Scheels in The Colony. Scheels presents itself as a "All Sports" store. The best way I can describe it is if Bass Pro Shop and Academy Sports got together and had a baby that won the lottery, that would be Scheels. This is certainly the most ridiculous and detailed sports and outdoors store I have encountered yet. Massive detailed bronze sculptures are outside, including a photo op with Abraham Lincoln himself. You enter in to the huge lobby by passing through a expansive saltwater aquarium that passes over your head and into support columns around you. There is a imposing carnival style Ferris Wheel as a centerpiece of the store. You can almost imagine the joy spinning around on this carnival ride as you slowly begin to stop caring about all of the money in your bank account about to be given to Scheels. Upstairs you'll find a Ripleys believe it or not quality life sized statue of Emmitt Smith in his Super Bowl prime, and then be shocked to the bone as you realize that it's not a statue at all, it's a Disney style animatronic that actually uses Emmitt Smith's own voice and a speaker hidden behind its robotic face. There is a Nolan Ryan cyborg as well. Welcome to Scheels. We've got robots. No admission required. There is a detailed toy section with a Lego rowdy the cowboy mascot. There is a massive candy shop with imported candies from around the world and hundreds of selections sold by weight. They have an armory with weaponry that can take down the most mighty elephant in the vast jungles of India. I spotted a miniature bowling alley. I'm pretty sure I saw samurai swords. Maybe even a Klingon battle sword. There is an taxidermy African giraffe. You can't help but be blown away at the selection and arrangement in this multi level shopping experience, tailor-made to delight and entertain you while enticing you to spend every dollar you have accessible to your pocket. I watched the look of wonder and amazement in my daughters eyes and remembered my own moment stepping into incredible universe decades ago and feeling exactly the same. I wish I have read the reviews before going. The most special things here is the aquarium and the ferris wheel. Other than this I do NOT recommend anyone to come here now. No staffs wear face covering. They don't keep social distancing when assisting other customers. Don't come if you want to shop in a safe environment. Good product selection tho. read more

We arrived about a half hour before closing. We just went to look around and get a feel for the place. They carry brands that I love like Teva that can be a little hard to find at times. We met a few employees and despite the late hour they greeted us with good energy and were very nice. The store is very clean and most things seem as if they will be easy to find. I like that they have curbside pickup because it does not seem like a place where I could run in really quick to pick up something that I need. Everyone inside was wearing a mask and kept to social distancing while we were there. The prices seemed competitive. read more

We went to Scheels while we were in Frisco for a basketball tournament. Let me start with this is a really cool place, it has a Ferris wheel, tons of photo ops and the place is HUGE so you can find anything you want (almost). For majority of sports they have an abundance of clothes, accessories, and equipment. I will say the 4-stars is due to the cost. They are very proud of what they offer because some Nike basketball shorts were $70! Nothing special, but highly overpriced. There were some great items on the sale rack so I guess it balances out. They do not have a wide variety of gymnastics items though. As big as that store is I feel they should have more than 15 leotards to choose from, I was disappointed as was my daughter. My wife and I went there the other day on a hunt for new shoes. Specifically, we went for ladies sport shoes. When you first walk in, the place is very ... stimulating. It's huge, and open, and they even have a ferris wheel inside, though it was not operating at the time. The thing that impressed me the most was when we found a couple of shoes my wife wanted to try on, the young lady sales associate took a quick look at them and was gone for no more than a minute. She knew her department very well. That speaks to an excellent level of training. Though the prices are a bit on the pricey side, they have virtually everything you need. read more

This store never has my size shoe. Whatever. But while exiting, I came across two of the rudest shoppers ever. One of them, the same size as my SO who was standing in the middle of the door way to make the X for their Texas in front of the store, called my SO fat because I said "excuse me". This was right after a 45-50 yr old guy got into it with her because he was cutting through the register lines and I pulled out and around to get to the second register to check out. I said excuse me to him and he start saying shit. Luckily I have thick skin are very selective hearing. Needless to say, if this is the crowd here, and it is, I won't be back. Sorry Scheels, I can't support your clientele nor you. As for the shoe size, I asked if they had my size and the clerk laughed at me and said of course they do. I know better, they never do. I wear a common size. He came out and said they didn't but he checked on their device and it said they did. He double checked and came back out and said they didn't. That's when I proceeded to tell him he shouldn't be cheeky when I ASK if they have my size. I think he felt bad. I hope so. That's not how you treat shoppers. read more

I had been looking at a particular Cold Steel knife online for many years, and when I saw it on Scheels' website for a great price (stating that it was available for in-store pickup) I decided to head on out to the store to finally see it in person. This was my first time at any Scheels store, and if you haven't been, you MUST go! I went to the store in The Colony, in North Texas, and it was HUGE, and had an amazing collection. This is now my FAVORITE sporting goods store. Also a big shoutout to Jeff Stout, the amazing employee who was super awesome, and patiently took out several examples of the knife I was looking for that they had in stock (even opening and unpacking a brand new one from the back) just so that I could examine them closely & pick out the best one. Mr. Stout was really awesome, and allowed me all the time I required to carefully look over each one to make sure I was absolutely satisfied. I told him it was my first time at a Scheels, so asked me what I was interested in seeing, and he personally accompanied me, showing me where everything was, and what items I definitely should not miss. We found the perfect camping/ lake chairs at Scheel's. This place is huge, but you know that from the outside. We had to wait in line due to the limited capacity but the employees were doing their best to move the line quickly. Everyone was friendly, but I was surprised that none of the employees on duty wore masks. Seems a bit odd during COVID. Overall this is a good store for finding just about any sporting item you need and there are plenty of activities for families to enjoy. As soon as the restrictions are lifted I'm sure it will be packed with people enjoying the activities and cafe inside. read more

I didn't get his last name but Kevin who was working at the candy station around 3:28pm on July 3rd is amazing. I recently had surgery that requires liquid only diet and I wanted some dip n dots. Normally if bits of the flavors mix people leave it. But he dug out the Oreo pieces that mixed into my banana split flavor. This might not seem like much but I had a surgery where if there is any distress to my stomach from my wheat allergy I would have to go back under and would be on a liquid diet longer. So many fun things!! Love shopping at Scheels! Obviously lots of thing's for the sports enthusiast but so much more! Great selection of clothes. Fun home decorating area and the staff has always been super nice and helpful. I do find some items pretty high priced but that could just be frugal me. But when a running shirt is marked 40% off and it's still $40...that's pricey to me. (Only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars) I grew up in North Dakota where our Scheels was a small store in the mall...love what it has grown into! What's not to like about Scheels. They have just about everything. Except kitchen Sinks . Plenty to look at and plenty of space for you to get your steps in. I would recommend to go eat and then go to the store. Went in to return an item that didn't work out for me. Hassle free of course. Some of the most polite employees and outstanding customer service. You guys . I ended up leaving with a new tactical toy. Bang, Bang!!!! that process went smoothly, little bit of paperwork but smooth. Consignment gun area. I almost put a bid in on a gun, and then realized Im not local and didnt want to mess with shipping, if I was sold the firearm. They have a candy area which is interesting. I wish they had a place like this near me. Also had a cafeteria. Bathrooms were clean. Ladies will like this place. Ah Scheels! The monster market of all things sporting/hunting and camping. Whether you're an athlete, gourmand, piscatorialist or toxophilite this is the place for you. The panoply of weapons and sporting goods is staggering, but this cloud-capped temple of Gruen transfer fueled purchasing didn't stop there. Scheels boasts a clothing department, sweet-seller, toy shop, and animatronic celebrities. Replete with a ferris wheel, floor-to-ceiling aquarium, and massive display of the taxidermy victims of some ambitious huntsman staring gently down upon the shopper, Scheels also sports an arcade, bowling alley, food court, and shooting lessons. Scheels' selection is massive and resplendent. Service is great, and the employees are always willing to help you find anything, or explain how a product works. The prices are fair, and the fact that a yellow pontoon plane is hanging from the ceiling is the cherry on top. Driving all the way to the Colony may not be convenient for electric vehicles, but once you get there a plethora of Superchargers are available in the area. read more

Wow! Just wow, where has this store been all my life????? The concept of this store is absolutely wonderful. So much creativity was put in designing this store. Here you will find anything and everything regarding all sports and outdoor activities. Along with clothing, shoes, Candy shop,Coffee Shop, Farris wheel, camping gear, tents, canoes, all sports items such as ice hockey, football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, ice skates, and soooo much more. You can literally spend all day there. Theres video games, bowling, and activities that you can do while you shop. Their gun and ammo collection is very impressive. Even just to see what is in stock is amazing. I found my favorite store :) if you are looking for something to do, please stop by. I was a little disappointed with them and here's why. Baseball/Softball section. There was a softball bat that was most definitely used with 3 or 4 hitting marks on it (not from a softball) and the wrapper busted in half. It's a $300 bat and a very good one at that. So I asked the sales associate if there was any mark down on the bat. He said he'd ask the manager. Comes back to tell me that there was no markdown and they were going to WASH the marks off and RE-WRAP the bat and sell it FULL price. I was looking to buy a new one regardless but after hearing that. No way lol Talk about a shady company. read more

We didn't really explore the entire Scheels, but we did go to the candy store. there was a really sweet older lady that was working the counter and she was the chillest person on the planet! The candy was good and I definitely recommend the Lego ones if you like gummy's. trust, get the Lego gummy's! We also explored the home decor department, which was full of really soft couches. By the way, at the back of the home decor spot, there's a white door with no label. don't open that door because that's for the employees chill. Lastly, the fish at the entrance were really impressive. I enjoyed a purple one, it had teeth. Also they had a large selection of sporting good equipment, guns, and anything you could need besides a wife or ak ammo. (Not their fault seeing as the war is starting and it's Russian ammo) Great service, lots of parking, clean restrooms. read more

Come here pretty religiously for all kinds of gear. But, best thing is you can bring the family. There's a couple things for the kids to do. Like ride this huge Ferris wheel in the middle of the store. You can grab lunch here while you're shopping. Try their Iced Salted Vanilla Latte it's pretty good. Their Scheels Chicken Sandwich is pretty bomb. Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it looked but proved me wrong. Fishing Gear, Hunting Gear, Biking Gear. You name it Scheels pretty much has it. Think of it as a Cabela's, a Bass Pro Shop, and a Big 5 put into one massive store and then pretty much sprinkle REI every where. And you have a Scheels. read more

My first experience inside of Scheels earlier this year in April. My experience at that point was pretty good because they had ammo and others did not. The store is amazingly big with so many options. Prices are basically somewhere between Cabela's and Bass Pro shop. Now for the size of the store and the location it's expected. A lot of my friends checked it out after I advise them they had ammo, when others did not and it was not a price gouging price so this got you five stars at that time. Update 10/20/2021 Had a bad experience there today hence note below: I came in today to buy a firearm. I don't feel like the employees which there were so many there but I only dealt with two, took me serious. That I really wanted to spend money but looking at some of the other firearms I think if I wasn't spending over $500. They weren't going to take me seriously. This made me feel like I should take my business back to Academy Sports and stick in my own League . read more

Been here a handful of times now and have purchased a gun twice. Great place that emphasizes customer service. I even got a choice of free hat or shirt during my second gun purchase! I hope that wasn't by mistake because their merch looks good and I wouldn't mind getting another one. I wanted to add that the knife section here is quite nice as well. The higher end brands are behind the glass. Also noticed the sports equipment, fishing and even a candy store section is also on the 2nd floor. And as of early August 2021, the ammo section has started to fill up and seems like they have a lot when they open the doors. Wow, this is way more than I expected! I thought I was going into a sporting goods store or Bass Pro Shops type place. This is like Bass Pro on steroids. I definitely prefer the layout of this place to some of the other large sporting goods places. Scheels also has a home goods section with some adorable decor and furniture! Ladies, they carry so much more than athletic wear and shoes, you can properly shop for clothes and shoes while the guys look at everything from fishing gear to bikes. It's very impressive and a great option for families. Between the fish tank, Ferris wheel and other displays, there's plenty to occupy the kids. The only reason I took off a star is for their prices. I know you can find better deals on some items. But Scheels provides a better shopping experience. read more

Love the huge variety in the store. There's a nice cafe there to grab a sandwich and cup of coffee that's not very strong or good. Every table in the cafe is sticky or has crumbs or wet cup rings. Please wipe them down so others can enjoy. read more

We been wanting to check this place out, went to have drinks in the area and stopped by. It was a Saturday afternoon so it was super crowded but this store is super cool. Every jersey you can think if, including retro/retired jerseys. Average and Plus size clothing available. It's like a Dick's store on steroids lol. The best way to describe this place is the "Disney World of Sporting Goods Stores". And when they say "everything is bigger in Texas", this place is no exception. As you walk past the hunting / fishing section, you will observe a good number of folks not wearing masks. I had to chuckle to myself because it's very on-brand with what you would expect. "So this is where all the Trump supporters congregate..." Other than this, the store rocks! I was in awe the whole time walking around. There is a literal ferris wheel in the middle of the store (not operating during COVID though), an aquarium, playground, a mini bowling alley, an arcade (hunting games too!), and most importantly, a cafe. There's equipment and goods for every sport and outdoor activity out there. Basketball, weightlifting (free weights in stock!), golf, soccer, baseball, canoeing, hiking, and camping! There's a huge selection of apparel (clothing, shoes) broken up by brand. There's Patagonia, Mizzen & Main, Nike, Under Armor, North Face, Bombas, Chubbies, and more. All my favorite brands and with tons of selection! There's also a section with gear from your favorite sports teams. Dallas Mavericks, Longhorns (my alma mater), Cowboys, Aggies (no one cares about them), and more! There's also a lego and board game section, home furniture / decoration section, service dog training section (with some cute dogs roaming around), and even a BBQ spices section! Seriously, something for everyone! The cool thing about this place is there are actually discounted items throughout the store. Scheels will also match prices from other stores AND you can verify in-store inventory from the website (scheels.com)! Can you tell how much I love this place?! What a joke this place is. Came to get new on clouds and a pair of ray bans. Called ahead for the shoes just to make sure they had what I wanted in stock. Drive an hour only to be met with chaos. 1 employee for every 100 customers. No lines and no organization. Waited 45 minutes just to be acknowledged and another 30 minutes to be told they don't actually have what I came there for. At that point I was done and happy to skip the 1hr+ checkout time. Don't waste your valuable free time and money coming here. Will be the first and last time for me. read more

I never knew I could love a store as much as I love Scheels. Their employees are SUPER friendly. So many employees so it's easy to ask for help. Even though their parking lot is insanely packed, it does not feel overly crowded in their store. So many cashiers so you don't have to wait in long lines. Scheels is a place you only find in Texas! What is it? What isn't it, is a better question. My mommy friends recommended this place to me because they take their kids there all the time for playdates. Really? Well, the minute I walked in, I saw. And I understood. We saw a huge, two-arch aquarium right after the cash registers. Wow. We looked at it for about 10 minutes, and then headed to the FERRIS WHEEL. Inside the store! For $1 each, you can ride it. Buy tokens at the register first. The ferris wheel is a great way to check out the entire store (great marketing tool), and it really does feel high! You go around I think 4 loops, which was plenty for me and my 4-year-old. We went to the indoor playground which is kind of small and completely enclosed, so if you are claustrophobic, then I wouldn't recommended. There was only one other kid in there when we went and we left when he started coughing. I can see it getting chaotic if you have more than 2 or 3 kids in there. We left and headed upstairs. Did the bowling for $2/10 frames, which was fun. It even has bumpers for the little ones. There's a tiny arcade where I let him "ride" and "drive" for a few minutes, and we went to look at all the animals on display as well as the toy area. We spent probably 2 hours there and it was amazing. I highly recommend to any mommy who wants a nice air-conditioned, safe place to hang out for an hour or so. I went there to get some treats for myself while my fiancé shopped around and they recognized me, even though I hadn't been there in a while, and they were so sweet! So as nice and big as this place was it just wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting to see moto x / snowboarding / etc. type gear on top of the other basics athletic gear you find elsewhere at stores such as academy, sports authority, and so on. The place was overwhelming with so much stuff. If you haven't been you should still go check it out, but lower your expectations before you step inside. There is of course a big Ferris wheel type thing (it is currently closed due to COVID). There are guns galore.. didn't get to check it out due to there being a line of people waiting to get into that section. With that all being said I will be back as it is a nice store with a lot to to choose from. Next time I'm hoping the weather is a little bit color so I can check out the big open yard in the back where there is a stage (I'm assuming for gigs in the near future) and eatery's to choose from. Fives from me are far and few between. Let me explain. 3 you did your job yay have a lollipop, 4 you went above and beyond and the tip just got bigger, 5 you knew what I needed before I did and you took that service to a level that even family wouldn't do for you, take my car and first born. Basically 5 is not impossible but they don't come easy and absolutely should be recognized. This is important because the 4 men that assisted me and my son with his bow raised the bar to a height I have rarely if ever experienced. Known as the 3 Chris' and Wayne they man the archery department at Scheels. Now I could boar you with the details but let's just hit the highlights. This started because I upgraded the sight on my bow and moved my old one to his. This turned into quite the rabbit hole to tune. These men were patient and determined to get this corrected. They easily could have given it back, told us it had a non-standard issue and sent us on our way. Instead they engaged the other team members and took the time and effort to make sure that not only was it fixed but that we had a great experience. Additionally their attitude was fantastic. For some reason after the first adjustment it had been changed. We determined that someone had confused it. Either way with a smile they took care of it straight away. No eye rolls or irritation. I can't get that when when Starbucks screws up my coffee and this is way more complicated. So huge props to the 3 Chris' and Wayne. You have a customer for life. read more
