The next morning I was at the store and it had to be one of the best shopping experiences I have ever had. I arrived before they opened and while I was waiting I got an email stating my order was ready. I went in and went to the specific counter and they quickly processed some information I needed to fill out and I was done. I was in and out in 15 mins. The only reason it even took that long was I was looking at a few things. They have a great selection of sporting goods. Camping gear, clothing, firearms, even knives are plentiful. All the associates were very friendly and helpful. Store is super clean and well organized. Scheels blows sporting good stores like Bass Pro/Cabelas out of the water. Highly recommend this store.

Details: I walked in as a newbie to fly fishing, with borrowed equipment, for an upcoming San Juan river trip. Danny spent the time to listen to what I enjoyed and found I might enjoy fly streamer fishing more than watching an indicator. He helped teach me where my borrowed equipment would do well and where it would struggle. He helped coach me on the upgrades that would matter for a more enjoyable experience. He only carries a few brands, but they are brands he believes in. Danny then spent 1.5 hrs with me fishing a local pond in Plano. While we didn't catch anything (not the goal), he is a patient teacher, meeting me where I was currently at. His teaching was mix of mechanics and fish behaviors. If I could give ten stars , I would. So it started with me…read morestepping on the tip of my trusty 20 year old Orvis flyrod. After a brief period of grief I checked the Orvis web site for repair services and it said that any rod that is 25 years old or less, no matter what the circumstances were for damage, would be repaired for free. So I took my broken treasure to the Orvis on Preston Road in Dallas to check out this claim and it tuned out to be as true as written. They took the rod and said it would be 4-6 weeks and it would be shipped to my house. I patiently waited for four of the 4-6 weeks and called to see if they would check on the status. They said it was on track for the six week time frame. I hemmed and hawed and finally asked them if they had a program like a car dealer....a loaner rod while your personal rod was in for service. They said not formally but come by anytime and they would let me borrow a rod. Which I did that afternoon! Caught a bunch of small bass and perch in the Paluxy and the Nolan over the next couple of weeks! A few weeks later I got a package from Orvis at home and I anxiously opened it. It was not my rod....and it was broken in several places! Seemed odd. So I took it to the Preston Road shop again and quizzically asked why would I get a rod that wasn't mine and oh by the way it was broken. They did a little work on the Orivis computer and noted even thought it wasn't explained very well in the communication piece that came to my home, they couldn't repair my twenty year old rod so they were sending me a brand new rod. Well, yay for me, but look...it's snapped in several places. So they proceeded to say that they are sending me another new rod, but we are going to upgrade you to a 2020 version of the 9' 6 wt Orvis Recon and keep the loaner while we get it in the mail to you at home. Caught more bass and perch with the loaner. My beautiful new rod arrived two weeks later and I returned the loaner with a big grin and a thank you. I immediately took the new Recon out to the Paluxy. Moving upstream from the FM 205 bridge I made a backcast, caught it on a tree, made a way too forceful forward cast ....and broke it on the first day out!!!!!! Wow, so the next day I sheepishly returned AGAIN to Orvis with my day old rod and said , "Yes, I am an idiot" , I broke this thing and since I have only had it one day and you guys have been so nice I will pay for a repair. The Orvis folks at Preston Road laughed with (at?) me and said "no way". Our promise of repair no matter what still holds so expect your repaired rod in the mail in 4-6 weeks and here is the same loaner for you to continue fishing in North Texas water! I got the repaired Recon in the mail in the promised time frame, returned the loaner and wrote this review. I also bought a bunch of flies, some new forceps and a fishing shirt since. A customer for life! Thanks Orvis and the Preston Road staff especially the Texas Aggie who helped another Ag get through this craziness!

I ordered two items online with Orvis. Used my credit card and my credit card for payment…read more Submitted and acknowledged. A few hours later I get an email stating I left these two items in my cart. I call Orvis, no answer. I email them. Hours later get a response your order is good, sorry. I get an email confirming the order at that time. Next day I receive an email that one item is not in stock but they will send the other item. I request the order cancelled and my gift card restored and my original credit card refunded. I request this three times with their customer service (the name customer service with Orvis is a lie, no service) but they want help me. Don't shop at Orvis as this is the 2nd time with Orvis this has happed in the last couple of years. No more Orvis, period.

I've been fly fishing on the Gallatin with a guide and knew ever since then it was something I wanted to do a lot more of. I came in for their Bass Creek class which was great and will be returning for the Fly Fishing class. Hopefully I can work up to joining the group trips. Great gear and probably everything you need to get started can be found in here. I'll get some waders and the other essentials in the near future. Excellent service in store. Very fun store!
