Place is closed now. But it was excellent. Right on main street it was a great german bar. Food and service were excellent. Very authentic german bier garden. Sad it closed but there is another location.

Great outdoor patio oasis makes you forget you're even in the city of Poughkeepsie. Great selection of brews our go to that day was mass riot by prison city, very tasty. Food was good. Our go to is the wings but decided to try new things. Cheeseburger egg roll was good if you need that greasy food (not in a bad way). Mac n cheese was a lil bland but nothing hot sauce can't fix and the fries are always great. Our waitress was very nice and provided service to us adequately. Overall a great spot especially when you get to hang out in the outside patio.

On our way to Hyde Park and decided to stop here for lunch. It's in the downtown area. Great Biergarten and decor is perfect. Service was fast and a great beer selection. I got the poutine and it was great! Husband got the Brisket tacos and loved them. Definitely worth a stop when in Poughkeepsie!

Bad service ruins your experience. Unfortunately, this was our experience tonight. In town for college tour and a show. Decided on a casual joint with great food, as per reviews. The food was good, but due to poor service it wasn't hot when it got to us. We sat outside in the bier garden which is nice. Music playing, lights, flowers and pretty greenery. Greeted warmly, seated immediately. Off to great start. Downhill from there. I'm thinking our waitress was having a bad night, or new and didn't know how to manage orders..or both. We started by ordering drinks. They took forever to come. She came back l20 minutes later to take our order before we got our drinks. We said we'd like our drinks first, she said they are ready at the bar. Disappeared for another 10 minutes and then our drinks came. It's a bier garden. We ordered draft beers. Other waitstaff were getting orders and bringing drinks back quickly. Not our experience unfortunately. So the next time we saw our waitress we ordered food. She seemed annoyed we stopped her. The Beer cheese soup tasted amazing, but not very hot. Same with max & cheese balls. The chili dry rub wings lacked good flavor for a dry rub. Food when we got it tasted great, but not very hot. Clearly was sitting for a while before we got it. From what I observed that wasn't other diners experience. Seemed to be our waitress. So the next time we could get her attention we asked for check and left. It's a shame. Food was good. But with so many other dining choices, next time we are in area, will go somewhere else. If Poughkeepsie is a one & done stop for you, pick somewhere else. Unless you're just coming for good beer and bier garden experience

Unlike the one in New Paltz, there is not much seating available inside for dining. However if you are going for bar service there is a very nice, very stocked and very long bar available. My group and I were there for a quick dinner and drink. We shared the hot pretzels appetizer which was so good! The mustard was very seedy which is just how I like it. I followed up the appetizer by ordering some wings. It was a large portion and seasoned well. Very tasty. I did remove a star because some of the staff was getting a little rowdy behind the bar as we were eating. Usually I wouldn't mind too much but it was just a little too loud and distracting.

Delicious food. We got the pretzel poutine as an appetizer with the cheddar bratwurst and brisket poutine as our mains. I was happy there was a cider that I haven't had before. I would definitely come here again when I'm in the neighborhood. I really liked the pretzel poutine and honestly could've just stuck with that. The brisket poutine was huge and I couldn't even finish it with my partners help. We went on the coldest day and the back seating area was a little cold. Stick with the bar if you don't like the cold on a cold winter day.

At long last my party of six continues our merriment in Hudson Valley, NY region for lunch at Schatzi's Pub. Outdoor dinning with digital menus via QR code in accordance with COVID-19 NYS compliance which the weather was glorious. Schatzis Pub's mascot is a grey and white skunk holding a craft beer. Large outdoor patio picnic style tables provide lots of table space and seating without overcrowding. Water is available and served in mini Mason jars. At the entrance glass door contains stickers of local craft beers and breweries. I decided on fish and chips $15.00 of beer-battered cod fried golden brown served with tartar sauce and nearly 2 lbs. hand-cut fries and a grilled half lemon. There were only two small pieces of fish and my entire plate was full of French fries. It was gargantuan amount of fries for my liking and larger than my stomach's intake. I wished I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich on brioche, hopefully there were not gargantuan French fries. Ketchup was not provided as neither were condiments of salt or pepper. My friend's grilled pork belly tacos with house kimchi, avocado, pickled red onions, cilantro, chipotle aioli appeared tasty. The kimchi was certainly spicy. Vegan free and gluten free food options are available. Service is attentive, efficient and accommodating to provide separate bills. Restroom facilities are available on the premises. No, Schatzi's skunk did not spray liquid with a strong, unpleasant stench at my party of six.

I heard a lot of good things about Schatzis. I had dinner here Friday night. The place looked small from the outside. When you go inside the restaurant is long. The bar is long and the dining area is in the rear. We had 3 appetizers wings, fried pickles and pierogis. They where real good. We all had Schatzis burgers and they where out of this world!! They have a great selection of tap and can craft beers.. the place was clean and service was good. Parking right across street. I had a real good time here.

I'm not sure how I have not given Schatzis a review after coming here many times! I really like this spot for their rotating beer taps, they have 16 beers on draft and several cans. They have a variety of local beers and German brews. They have weekly food specials, I typically enjoy the Thai chili wings, burgers, and their amazing frites! Today's experience wasn't the best, my fries came out room temperature and the burger was a bit overdone but I'm hoping that was a one time thing. I enjoy that they have 4 TVs at the bar if you are going to watch a game and their outdoor garden is wonderful in the summertime. The only con is: I wish they would switch up their menu more often.

This place is fun and has seriously good food. Had the Reuben Sandwich and a cold beer and it hit the spot. One of my favorite spots to visit when I'm up in PoTown. Tonight I was up for the Marist game and made a beeline to the place ... next time I will break the Reuben habit in favor of their fish tacos or other outstanding menu options.

If you havent checked this place in Poughkipsee, you're are seriously missing out. The food was OUTRAGEOUS. The schnitzel I got was SO GOOD. The portion was out of control and the German potato salad was out of control. The food was made with so much love and the beer list was amazing as well. Easily sat a large party and the staff were so friendly. You absolutely must treat yourself if you're a local or want to spend a weekend away in the Hudson Valley.

Great food. Casual and fun place. The outdoor seating out back is wonderful. They have the area of 3+ houses out back. Tables and chairs, umbrellas. Would be beautiful at night with there lights that are stung throughout the different areas and levels. The food was very good bar type food but well done menu with German flair.

There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

Comes with soup or salad and choice of two sides (i.e. spaetzle, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, red cabbage, or chef's vegetable). Also you can get a schnitzel sampler of 3 varieties. WOW! Also offered are sauerbraten, rouladen, chicken Reisling, braised lamb shanks, a variety of wursts (sausages) and delicious dessets. It's simply WUNDERBAR! The alcohol ratio was quite off and was very hard to drink. I asked for a soda to try and dumb it down, but was only able to get about half way through it. Though this was my fault for not ordering a beer at a German restaurant, I still would have liked the drink to be a bit tastier and is unfortunately the only thing keeping this review from being a shinning 5-stars. For my meal I ordered the sauerbraten which did NOT disappoint! The beef was very tender and the vinegar mixed with the gravy was the perfect level of sour and hearty. The red hot red cabbage was hot and flavorful and the potato pancakes were perfectly cooked. The side of applesauce put on top of the potato pancakes added the right amount of sweetness. A friend got the special rouladen which I got a taste of and was very delicious. The pickles inside were flavorful and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The menu is a bit pricey, but the portions are deceptively filling. I definitely expected to be hungry after but I finished my plate absolutely stuffed!
