We ate here for an earlier dinner after walking the Walkway yesterday and man do I wish we lived closer! The hostess stand is a bit blocked by the bar, so for a moment when we entered, I thought there was only bar seating, but walk 2 feet more towards the back and there's indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for the AC and sat inside, but from what I could see of the patio, it looked pretty well shaded with large umbrellas. Our waiter was very nice and helped us out on our ordering since I thought we ordered way too much, but he let us know portion size, etc and he was right on the money. We started with the pretzels, pirogi's and tater tots and then had the spicy cheddar sausage and bratwurst, with a side of onion rings. The sausages each came on a roll with a side of German potato salad and pickles - which tasted homemade (the onion rings were $3 extra). I also got the shandy to drink, which was delicious. Originally came here on a Wednesday night - absolutely packed! The bar scene looked great, but it's a small place so it fills up fast. Came back on a Saturday afternoon and loved it! The giant pretzels with the warm cheese were by far my absolute favorite part. They were incredible and I should've ordered 3 more. The rueben sliders were delicious. Real rye bread with real pieces of corned beef - chunks not slices - that were amazing. The burger was good. Definitely juicy, as listed on Buzzfeed, and definitely big. It's a large, thick burger patty topped with cheese, pork belly, a delicious potato pancake, the usual veggies, and this really good purple sauce all on a pretzel bun. The potato pancake is what made the burger for me. The entirety of the burger was a little overwhelming. I shared mine and could barely finish my half. Overall, it was awesome. read more

If you love craft beer and hearty pub food, or have just finished a big workout and are famished, Schatzi's is an awesome option that stands out in the PK area. Their beer list is extensive and informative, containing everything from American craft brews to traditional German Weiss biers and session beers. The food is awesome (though filling and heavy). I love going and sharing a couple appetizers (the pretzels are little pillows of heaven and the Reuben sliders are perfect) and having some good beer. Their 'Schatzi burger' is also great, though I can rarely have an appetizer, beer, and burger and walk out of there feeling like I haven't punished my stomach. They've recently expanded the food offerings and included specials (pierogi Wednesdays, for example), which make the menu even more accessible. My only complaint would be that the space is rather limited, making it hard to accommodate more than the seated patrons. For that reason, it's difficult to come with a moderate or large group and be confident you'll have somewhere to be comfortable. read more

Wunderbar! Wonderfully Capped off a long return drive from a Vermont ski trip. Has been on the yelp bookmark bucketlist for a minute and finally made it! Caught em on "wurst Mondays" and went in for a knockwurst and a beer that got their signature (and quite yummy) super burger. Wow, this place is so good! Has all of my favorite german foods and some non-german foods! It was really hard for me to not try to order and eat everything off the menu. We sat outside in the very cute biergarten that is very spacious and has cute wall art. We ended up ordering the pierogies, a side of fries and the two sausages (bratwurst and spicy cheddar) with german potato salad. EVERYTHING WAS MOUTH DROOLING AND DELICIOUS!! And 2 german beers. Schatzis has got it going on!!! If you haven't been here, you are missing out! Do yourself a favor and drop whatever you're doing and get here now! I was a first timer to the restaurant and a little overwhelmed with the menu which in my opinion, is never a bad thing. Better to have a variety of options then a few similar options. Schatzi's has everything from what you would expect a German beer garden to have to tacos, nachos, Mac and cheese, seafood, and more. Now I know this may sound iffy because there are a ton of restaurants out there that have this same variety and for the most part, the food just doesn't do it. The restaurants that try this type of menu just don't put enough effort into the food or just can't handle the wide range of food, but whatever Schatzi's is doing, they're doing it right. There were 4 of us and between apps and entrees we, for the most part, tried a little bit of everything. Apps: mussels, deep fried grilled cheese, tots, and pretzels with beer cheese. All of them were great. Not a big seafood fan so I took my family and boyfriends word in saying that the mussels were great. Pretzels were awesome, super ooey,gooey delicious cheese for dipping. The tots were stuffed with a few different cheeses and fried to perfection served over their signature ketchup. The deep fried grilled cheese was amazing. That was also stuffed with different cheeses and super crunchy, and no grease at all! Monday's special is 6$ sausages with one topping and one sauce. So 3 out of the 4 of us did that. I got the cheddar bratwurst with cheddar bier cheese and caramelized onions. The bratwurst was so fresh and the pretzel bun it was served on was warm and delicious! Everyone else enjoyed their sausages. And my boyfriend got the food truck tacos which he could not get down fast enough, a good sign! All the food we got was amazing, no complaints whatsoever I'm not a beer drinker, but my uncle and boyfriend said the beers they had were really tasty. So again, no complaints! Everything on the menu is really good. Wasn't a huge fan of their gravy though. Beers and drinks were pricey but good. The quality of the food and presentation surprised me. We ordered the cauliflower pizza and cobb salad. I was skeptical about the pizza, but it was delicious! Something about roasted cauliflower, similar to broccoli, is so yummy. Came here while I was visiting the Hudson valley, and I have to say I was so disappointed. The space itself was nice- the outdoor seating in the back was huge and very nice! Unexpected! My boyfriend and I weren't too hungry so we ordered the cheese burger egg rolls and the pretzel poutine: I was was excited about the pretzel poutine but it was honestly disgusting. There was something sour to it and it just didn't work, I feel like there were ways it could've been improved upon but it was gross and we left almost the entire dish. Nice ranchy dip Buzzfeed burger (4 stars): with thick med rare beef patty, plenty of gooey cheese, potato croquette, pork belly, on pretzel buns. This was actually so big it was very difficult to eat. The beef was nicely cooked, med rare throughout and super juicy. Honestly could've done without the croquette, was a little distracting, but I could see it adding a nice moist mouthfeel had the meat been dry or overcooked, but it wasnt in this case Cheesy chipotle sausage (3.5 stars): with chipotle aioli on pretzel bun. Flavorwise, was quite nice, smokey, and porky. However, I think mine was overcooked, as the casing was quite tough, and the meat itself was not as moist as it could have been Onion rings (5 stars): I upgraded my side of fries to this and these were really great! Super crispy, and thin batter, meltingly well cooked onions. Decent selection of craft brews on tap! Service was ok. It appeared that there was a decent amount of staff but they were always running around and in a rush. Also, for a place that is supposed to be a biergarten, our server didn't really offer much help in choosing an alternate beer when ours kicked. Food did come out quickly once we ordered. I went here yesterday and had a great time! The outside is so adorable with the lights and mini waterfall. Our waitress was very attentive and helped us pick out our beer flight to fit our taste. damn, Damn, DAMN!!! Best burger I've ever had!!! It's on a pretzel roll, potato pancake was crispy and awesome, pork belly was delish.... The actual burger was amazing itself - the ground beef was unbelievable, they definitely don't use the same beef I use when making burgers at home.... My only complaint - the fried egg didn't ooze yolk.... I know that everyone has read my reviews of burgerfi, and that has been my chief complaint of their breakfast all day burger.... Even with that, it's still a 5 at Schatzis.... Also at Schatzis, the food truck pork belly tacos are amaze-balls.... This pub brings the American feel to German food! The waiting staff were attentive and answered all questions that one would expect. To start off the deep fried pickles were amazingly delicious and paired with an horseradish/ "cool" dipping sauce. For lunch I did dive right in an get the famous "Schatzi burger and a very good IPA beer. Overall the experience was nice, the food was cooked fine (Burger was over cooked but was hidden by all of the wonderful other flavors). Came here for a mini reunion with some friends and really happy with our experience. I had one of the best brats I've had in a long time and the warsteiner pilsner was incredibly satisfying. We were seated quickly and the service was friendly from when we walked in to when we left. Everything was reasonably priced too. I absolutely love Shatzis! Ever since moving to the Poughkeepsie area (about three years ago) this has easily been one of my favorite restaurants and bars to frequent. We always eat and drink in the outdoor beer garden. I am a vegetarian and although this is a German meat heavy bar I've found many (different) delicious meals to have and enjoyed them all. We always leave full. The perogies are to die for. I also love the tots (they are mini potato croquettes.) The Mac and cheese dishes are also delicious. Different specials are available on different nights... The bartenders and waiters are always extremely helpful and attentive. Great selection of craft beers and the bartenders and waiters are very knowledgeable about them all and willing to let you try whatever and make recommendations. They have German beers available in steins as well! If you're ever in the area definitely check our Shatzis.
