Scarlet Espresso $16 happy hour price $8 Espalon, licor 43, Espresso, Vanilla Reduction
Michelle M.

This restaurant and bar is so cute! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but as soon as you take one step inside the door, your surrounded by BEAUTY. The foyer has an elegant royal seat, and the ceiling is decorated with pink and silver disco balls. When you walk into the main dining area, there are several cute booths and a large bar area. Each booth is briefly set up with cute glasses & flatware. There are crystal chandeliers throughout and red draped curtains along the walls. This is definitely an Instagram worthy lounge that would be great for a date or a get together with the girls. I discovered this beautiful lounge during a wine walk. The bartender was so nice and helpful. She definitely knew what she was doing and remade my drink a couple times by herself because she was not satisfied with the temperature or taste of it. That's truly rare to find in a bartender. She actually takes the time to make your drink perfect. My girlfriends had the sangria as part of the wine walk and I ordered the Scarlet Espresso since it was still happy hour on a Saturday until 7 PM! I was impressed that their espresso had licor 43 which is hard to find at most bars, but should be included in every single coffee drink. It was delicious! It thad a little bit too much foam for me on the top, but it still tasted good. One thing to note, like many other bars and restaurants in Dallas are starting to do.... they automatically add 20% gratuity on checks. I left around 7:30 so I didn't really get to experience the nightlife here, but I am sure it is fantastic! I definitely will be back again.

I see that it has been more than 10 years since my last review so it is time for an update…read more We went here for a late lunch after attending an event at the American Airlines Center. There was a time when Meso Maya was the go-to for upscale Mexican in Dallas. The culinary scene in Dallas has changed so much that it is not longer the case. But the downtown Meso Maya remains an icon and continues to deliver consistently good food and service. The restaurant still has the warm ambience and remains in good condition even after all these years. It was too hot to sit on the patio so we ate indoors. The interior is smaller than I remember. The restaurant still starts you out with complimentary chips which are strips, and a smoky, spicy salsa. it was great. I started with the a mescal margarita and it was excellent. The kid had Topo Chico and the wife had Prosecco. Everyone enjoyed their drink. For entrees, the wife had her favorite, the vegetable budin, which is like a lasagna. The flavors were deep and rich. She loved it. I tried the carne tacos and they were excellent! The meat was tender and smoky. The beef had been marinated for a wonderful flavor. Good quality with no fat. I usually avoid ordering beef at restaurants because I often get more fat than meat which I detest, but not at Meso Maya. Our server Luis was very good. Present when we wanted and not when we did not. Overall, the restaurant was a hit on every level--ambience, service, and food. We like the downtown location the best and will return.

So many reasons why it SHOULD be 5 Stars…read more but I will tell you why not... But first let me share how great it is Great service and vibe from All of the employees and management Great quality food Great interior decoration fair price So why only 3 Stars? Because, especially upstairs the light was Sooo dark, I actually needed to use my iPhone as a flashlight in one hand so to use the other hand to see the food and eat it. But that's not all... It was so extremely LOUD my wife and I had to SCREAM to communicate similar to what you might have to do at a Concert, Finally, the room was too cold, but that might be a personal point of view If you go there, it seems the problems were somewhat better if outside it on the main level We couldn't wait to leave as we ate fast even though there were so many good points about the place if I was blind AND deaf possibly Everything would have been perfect so as to not complain about the darkness and loudness (shrug) PS I took the picture at 7 using a photo-light for the picture, it is as not lit the way the picture gives you the impression, PLUS my table had No light at my table some had a slight wall light, better there but not great

E-bar might have just won the spot for the best TexMex chile relleno in my book (I was a die hard Chuy's fan before they quit selling them). The beans clearly have the pork grease (yum) and the rice was delicious. Even though the place was packed, we were told it'd be a 30ish minute wait, we were seated in less than 20 minutes. Our server came out quickly, brought us drinks, so attentive! We'll definitely return! What a fun little spot!

The staff and other patrons were all enjoying the game together--there's definitely a good community that comes to this restaurant regularly. As for the food, the portions are GENEROUS. Each guest gets their own dipping bowl of chips and salsa. We shared an appetizer and two meals, and still had plenty of leftovers. I highly recommend the fajita nachos, which come loaded with toppings. Their drinks are also very strong, so plan accordingly! With all the fun and food, I accidentally left my wallet and did not realize until the next day. The staff held the wallet in their lost and found, made sure to ask verifying questions, and asked me to confirm if all my belongings were still in the wallet before leaving. For this exceptional service, food, and vibes, I highly recommend.

I remember when they were located further down Lemmon Avenue in a much smaller space. They've since moved uptown, and the new digs are beautiful and very inviting. After we were seated, our server, Ruben, greeted us with a warm smile. We were especially excited since we arrived just in time to catch their lunch specials--and there are plenty of great ones to choose from. We started with a couple of frozen margaritas and a cup of queso while browsing the menu. The margaritas were spot-on--not wimpy at all, with just the right kick. And the queso? Absolutely outstanding--some of the best we've had in a long time. The salsa was excellent as well. My wife chose the lunch-sized chicken quesadillas, while I went with the #7 lunch special, which included a cheese taco, a chicken enchilada, and a beef enchilada topped with chili con carne. Our meals arrived after a short wait, and everything exceeded expectations. My wife was thrilled with the portion size--it was just right--and she was all smiles after her first bite. The chicken fajita meat was tender, flavorful, and perfectly marinated. My lunch special hit the spot and delivered exactly what I was craving. We had a fantastic experience at Mia's Tex-Mex. Ruben took excellent care of us throughout our visit, and we'll definitely be back again soon!

Our cocktails were all good - and the appetizers were very good. We had the crispy pork belly and the tostaditas with barbacoa. The crispy pork belly was especially delicious and I would order as my own dinner in the future. It comes with onions and sauces and corn tortillas and it's to die for - so crispy and flavorful. We ordered the Bistec enchiladas and they were good but not as good as the appetizers. They give you a variety of sauces when you're seated that you keep throughout the meal - from mild to spicy but I would say the "spicy" is on the mild side. Still good and flavorful but not unapproachable for most ppl. We had the Campechana dessert and it was a little strange. It was basically a vanilla Icecream cake with a crispy waffle cone like layering that was really hard to break until it sat a while. It was oddly addicting but also not that good? I can't explain it. We went to the cigar lounge area after dinner and had Mexican espresso martinis and watched football before heading home. There was little smoke smell but very minimal until it got later. Around 8:30 (on a Saturday night) ppl started smoking cigars and they opened the side windows and being 90degrees right now - it became less enjoyable so we decided to end the night. In the fall that room would probably be quite lovely with the windows open. They have comfortable seating and fire pits. Really more of a 4.5 out of 5.
