A great bar can survive an average cocktail. It can't survive poor hospitality. We came on a Tuesday evening as a party of three to celebrate a family member's birthday. The restaurant was empty. After being told to choose a table for three, we sat at the only practical four-top table available. The bartender immediately corrected us, insisting it "wasn't a small table," and tried to seat three adults at a tiny two-top that clearly couldn't accommodate our dinner and drinks. If that's the policy, it's a strange one. The interaction was unnecessarily confrontational, dismissive, and made it clear our business wasn't welcome. Reading other reviews afterward, I noticed the same bartender is mentioned repeatedly for the exact same behavior. At some point, it's no longer an off day...it's a pattern. To the owner: your reputation is built on hospitality and word of mouth. If multiple customers are walking out because of the same employee before they've spent a dollar, it's worth asking whether she's representing your business the way you intend. read more

Happened upon this place by accident. We were at the North Texas Irish Festival, completely horrified by the overpriced Guinness and ridiculously expensive fair food so we decided to leave and see if we could find someplace to get a snack and a decent drink. Boy were we pleasantly surprised. This bar is eclectic and beautiful. Bar tenders were all nice and provided great service. We ordered the cóctel de camarón, hubs got a negro modelo and I got the dirty martini. Grabbed a quick bite before a show at Music Hall... I have driven past several times and have wanted to stop. I finally did and I was very happy. First of all - this little place is tucked away, nondescript, but is so cute. I felt like I stepped into a neighborhood bar in Mexico. There's a long church pew against the wall with tables. We sat there to have a good view of the whole place. They take the mezcal seriously. More options than you can imagine. We had the mangonada frozen margaritas--so amazing!! Love the tamarind tajin rims. Tacos were good--I'm always testing carnitas and these were great. Not fatty or greasy. Rice and beans were ok. The winner of my night was the Esquites. Super fresh grilled corn--it was not previously frozen, crema, asadero, and the ground Takis!!! Really really yummy. This had been on my list for a while and I'm so glad i finally got the chance to go. Paid to park in the lot then made the quick walk over. This is easily assessable via the DART train as well since this is right across from the fair park station. We came in at around 10 pm on a Saturday and they had a pop up food event going on! We didn't try it but it looked and smelled fantastic, they collabed with a group from San Antonio. The atmosphere was between chill and lively and it wasn't too crowded. The Christmas decorations were a lot of fun. The patrons seemed to enjoy finer spirits and weren't there to get wasted. The drink options were impressive! They had tequila, mezcal, and sotol and we tried a bit of everything. Lots of brands I had never heard of before that seemed to be somewhat exclusive/items you can't find in stores. The bartenders took such good care of us (especially the guy and gal with the septum piercings--I didn't get their names!!) and had such extensive knowledge on the types of spirits offered. Turns out this place sends their bartenders to Mexico to learn about the distilling process!! They do have a food, cocktail, and non alcoholic drink menu. They also have an all genders bathroom. We will have to come back again this was such a great experience. 10/5 stars!!! read more

Outstanding mezcal spot super close to Fair Park (great pre show spot). We arrived at 6pm and had a 7pm comedy show across the street. The restaurant was super packed and we found a small table in the bar area. We ordered drinks, tacos, chorizoqueso. It did take a while for the food and drinks to come but we understood since it was super packed. The service was friendly and the food was good. We were able to get out by 7 and make it to the show just on time. The tacos were tasty and not the kind with two corn tortillas (just one how it should be)! Highly recommend!! read more

I really wish I could give this Place a better review. It has a great location by the fairgrounds. I didn't try the food. I only had a couple of drinks which I will say we're very good. I was charged for a more expensive drink than what I ordered, which was one issue. The tables were sticky, which I think it was just the wax on the tables, but it was just kind of gross. Service was very off. We had no idea who our server was and when more friends of mine showed up and our drinks were empty. They did not ask us if we wanted anything. I had to go to the bar to request a drink. They do not have menus you have to scan and they did not ask if we wanted our checks. We also had to go to the bar again to ask. Went twice, sat at the bar with a friend and weren't acknowledged or greeted for 15 minutes- it was Saturday and busy so I get it. We decide to order a drink & a shot each to hold us over for the night. Bartender refuses to serve us and says she can only serve 2 shots a person. I decide to give this bar another try and go for a dinner with friends, there were only a handful of tables. Same experience, we wait for 20 minutes before we even get asked to put in drink orders, they forget to bring our drinks, we had to flag down a server and ask if anyone could take our food order. Food was flavorless, servers were rude, slow, busy talking / laughing with coworkers, but at least the drinks are strong. Wouldn't recommend if you like quality service. read more

Loved this place, I always pass by this location and have never been and it didn't disappoint. Pork belly chicharron melted in your mouth and elote was so flavorful. The staff was also so friendly, they kept checking on us, and made the vibe more welcoming and fun. We absolutely loved this place. Atmosphere was great. Good music, friendly waitstaff and bartender, comfortable seating inside and out. Conveniently across the street from Fair Park. Drinks were amazing. Hundreds of bottles of mezcal and tequila. We sampled a couple of different ones and they were all delightful. The Passionfruit Paloma was my favorite. For food we sampled a few tacos which were all clean and tasted great. Chicken Tinga, Carne Asada, and Beef Lengua. The Esquites had great flavor. While waiting to go see Donny Osmond, we decided to eat here. The atmosphere and food are authentic. It's seat yourself with a rotation of servers which is unique. After having a poor experience at another spot we stumbled on this spot and it's a hidden little gem. We walked in and were told to sit anywhere we liked and just in case you are interested they have patio tables available. The menu is digital so whip out your phone and get to scrolling because they have lots of options. So let's start off with happy hour on Saturday? Well yes the offer this so it gave me the courage to order things I wouldn't normally get. Got the daiquiri Mexicano and when it was brought out I was a little regretful as it was in a small glass but that small glass packs a punch! I was going to get a flight however I was a little overwhelmed with the options. The table next to us ordered them and I snapped a shot just in case you are interested. Got the street tacos - you get to pick any two - sadly the carbs asada was a little on the tough side for me. We also ordered chips, guacamole and salsa. The guacamole was delicious however the green salsa was a tad too spicy (tasted like roasted jalapeños blended with a little water) for my liking. I was also disappointed with the rice that came in the burrito (we ordered it one the side) as it was dry and lacked flavor. This place has really changed. I hadn't been in a couple of years, I used to go all the time, but have since moved further away. Was in the area for a concert last week and had a guest with me from out of town and was excited to show him this place. Our concert got rained out and decided to grab a drink somewhere while we waited for our ride. When we arrived the bartender (female with a backwards cap) was not very nice to me at all. I simply asked for a drink menu and she rudely answers how everything is on the QR code. Second after we asked for a couple waters for now), she made a face like she was annoyed for us asking and responded very aggressively "are you all going to be sitting at the bar or a table?" As if I wasn't allowed to ask for a water until I sat down or was bothering her and interrupted her form chatting it up with her buddies sitting across from her. Then we sit down and the server was a lot nicer but when we finally got our drinks we get them in these cheap plastic cups. I don't know if it's because they got slammed earlier and ran out of proper glassware or because it was a Tuesday night but one thing they always did nice was presentation. Now it's plastic. LAR was very busy so there were a lot of people that like a dive like atmosphere--me, not so much. The margaritas were good as was the service except when I asked for a dinner plate instead of the cheap brown paper basket I was told no that they didn't serve tacos on their plates ( that is the first time I have been denied that preference). The order of three tacos is very small with no lettuce, tomatoes, or cheese. Meat was good as were the "soft" corn tortilla; however, your only choices of proteins are carne asada and chicken. The tortilla chips were thick and extra hard so there were crumbs everywhere. Those also were not my favorite since I like thin chips. The bathroom was interesting. There was no door into the bathroom. There were two stalls. One had a urinal and the one next to it had a commode. Not my thing! The main plus was that it was across the street from the fair grounds, and they let us leave our car for a three hour event . They specialize is true, authentic, Mexican Tequila and Mezcal and the Margaritas are the bomb. So good! We also ate the most wonderful and authentic Mexican meal - cooked to perfection and presented by an equally talented wait staff. The owner sat with us for a bit and we had a chance to really immerse ourselves into the history of the bar and the care taken to curate a menu and bar offering that is second to none in the area. I was next door for a hair cut and this place (fortunately for me) happened to be next door! This place is Fun! The people are authentic from the owner down and they make you feel at home. They have a legitimate and affordable happy hour that im sure, evolves into a huge party as the night progresses. I didn't have time to stay and find out but, the experience during my visit was fabulous. Billed as a Mescal bar, they do have an over abundance of that fine smoky spirit but, can handle any other drink order. I sampled a plate of the happy hour tacos which could grace any menu anywhere.
