I had the absolutely worst experience last night. My girlfriend's and I went to the restroom and security decided to bang on the door immediately once we got in there. They banged the whole time , which we didn't know it was them until we opened the door. There was five of us, and once we opened up the door, they were telling us to watch our mouths because I yelled at them asking did they work there , obviously confused what was going on. They then decided to kick us out because we had too many people in the restroom. I only got one of the security guards name his name is Anthony another man in his 40s who had an accent decided to put his hands on me and push me. We were all so confused why we were getting kicked out. I will never be going back! That is absolutely insane. We did not take a long time either and they said it was gonna take too long if we all went together, which makes no sense. We took MAYBEEE 5 to 7 minutes in the restroom. The owner needs to get a grip on his security guards. Especially the ones that look like their on drugs sneaking people in from the back and the one man who put his hands on me for absolutely no reason!!! BEWARE LADIES: You cannot go to the bathroom with anyone or you will get kicked it and man handled !!! read more

Atlas is a funky fun cocktail bar in the Bishop Arts neighborhood in South Dallas. The vibe in Bishop Arts feels authentically urban like a large northern city. It's definitely more delightfully eclectic and kitschy than neighborhoods around Downtown Dallas or East Dallas. Atlas has a funky lounge design that is warm, inviting and screams that you made it out of the house so you're ready to rage. They always have great energy in their music, creative cocktail menu, and food. I had a tasty Sidecar variation called Between Da Sheets (photo 2). They added rum to the classic recipe of cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice. The rum gave it a bit of a vacationy feel which was nice. It was well-balanced and quite tasty. Here's the thing: this place was great when it first opened, but now it feels like just another bar. It keeps coming up on "speakeasy" searches, yet, calling it a speakeasy because there's a bar in the back is honestly a stretch. The drinks are decent, and it's always crowded. There are two bars, one in the front and one in the back, but the back bar isn't consistently open, and whenever I've been, the door has been wide open with people packed around every bar and table. So the whole speakeasy mystique just isn't there. That said, it is Bishop Arts, so it's always a vibe. But between the crowd, the drink prices, and the fact that it doesn't really live up to the speakeasy label, I can't quite give it five stars. read more

Before ending up at another spot, we stopped in here just to see what the vibes were. The bar was already pretty packed with no place to sit. They did not have any prosecco and the music they were playing was not really our vibe so we ended up leaving. Other than that, the 10min that we were there, I loved their decor and ambiance. Very dark, chic and they did have a little dance floor in case you wanted to dance. I'm not from the area so I'm not sure if they have different music on certain nights, but we came on a Saturday and they were playing like alternative, pop and some R&B from what I remember. read more

I had a great time at Atlas Bar! The atmosphere is great for a chill night out. Music was good but a bit too loud to have a conversation without yelling across the table. Ordering was a bit strange. We were expected to walk up to the bartender to order food/drinks even though my group and I were seated at a table (We found this out the long way). We started with the meatballs and hummus for apps -- I'd reorder the meatballs if I had to choose. Espresso martinis were well made - chefs kiss! There's also a speakeasy downstairs that's only open on weekends, so we missed out on that during our Wednesday visit. Visited this place maybe two Friday's ago. My boyfriend and I usually come during Christmas time because they always have the place so nicely decorated & the vibe is just great. Espresso martinis were PERFECT. Bartenders are always friendly. The only thing I don't like is the DJ they hired. I get the whole "club" vibe but we aren't in 2016 anymore. Sorry I don't wanna hear "Gasolina" in a somewhat elevated/upscale bar. It was awkward & honestly got trashy. We would've stayed longer but that music was just bad. This place is too small and overpriced to be literally pushing girls out the door because they were kissing on the dance floor. When you enter there is usually a line- that's fine. What's not fine is the bouncers charging people to skip the line. It's no doubt a beautiful space with a dark gothic theme but it's so small. Hardly any space to dance or even move. If they have a DJ visiting they will make a little space in the front to dance but nothing super fun. If you want to take some pics and sit down in a space that is crowded and loud- congrats you've found it! Even the little "speaks easy" space in the back is filled with people. so a bar in the back with another bar in the back? They keep the door open on busy nights anyways so what's the point? On Wednesday my sister and her girlfriend kissed on the tiny "dance floor" then got pushed straight out the door by a black male-presenting employee with long braids. No reasoning, no explanation- just get out and took their $16 drinks out of their hands. It's a cocktail bar maybe they don't want people mistaking it for a club, cool then post a no dancing sign or something. Maybe try to actually communicate with the guests that spend money there if something is wrong. Also, don't immediately start putting your hands on and pushing people with heels on. I will always love this place. The ambiance is warm and cozy, the drinks are consistently good, and the service is always great. Sometimes they even have live music, which adds a really nice touch. The only downside (depending on your mood) is that it can be hit or miss with the crowd--sometimes it's super quiet, other times it's lively, and there's no real formula for predicting when. Still, I find myself dropping in all the time, and every visit reminds me why I love this spot so much. read more

Cool speakeasy bar tucked in Bishop Arts. Great for afternoon or early evening drinks since they convert to more of a standing club after 9 pm, which makes it difficult to have conversations. Really enjoyed the Midnight in Rio, and love the Oaxaca while it's Hot. A really hot tequila drink with a hint of heat and sweetness. Good service and will I'm sure be back. read more

A beautiful space. Pretty standard cocktail prices for the area which translates to a more expensive than I would like. But it's not outrageous, if you're drinking over here you already know what's gonna happen to you, wallet-wise. The drinks are good. They have mezcal which is an automatic bonus for me. What a great bar in the Bishop Arts neighborhood of Dallas. Loved the ambiance of the place. It was giving me dim and moody like a song by The Weeknd. Appreciated the gothic looking chandeliers that looked very cool against the portraits of mysterious, shrouded queens. I strolled in around 9pm on a Monday night. The place wasn't busy as I expected, but it was still considerably lively. Service was speedy, and the bartenders were friendly and helpful. They were highly invested in helping me on my question of what there was to do in Dallas on a Monday night. I ordered a Clover Club cocktail, which was great. It was a gin-based cocktail with a slight tartness from pomegranate and creaminess from egg whites. I also got the pretzel bites to much on. I know... they're just pretzel bites, but they were damn good! Soft, chewy pretzels out of the fryer with the perfect amount of rock salt dusted on top. I visited this spot on a Friday night where it was pretty busy, but still managed to snag a table as a group was headed out. I anticipated the DJ's arrival.. As we waited, the server assisted us and made some nice recommendations. One thing to note, they sell tapas only. We got the Italian meatballs and Charcuterie. For drinks, I started with the sidecar (France) and switched over to the Zombie (Hollywood) later in the evening. The small bites were quite savory and the drinks were to our liking. When the dj arrived, he began his set of traditional house music which matched the ambiance. It was a nice Friday vibe. Awesome place if you're in town for a phenomenal cocktail. I was visiting from LA and glad we stumbled upon this place. The ambience in here was perfect for a rainy Dallas day. It has a warm low light lounge vibe that was very cozy to sip on some quality cocktails. We stopped in for a drink and ended up staying there for 2hrs because of the wide selection of spirits they had and of course the amazing bartender that was not only incredibly helpful but a true master at his craft. I offered him to give me a "dealers choice" cocktail using a spirit I chose and it was probably one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I used to really enjoy this place. When Atlas first opened, it was clean, welcoming, and felt like a great spot to relax. Lately, though, the atmosphere has changed, and it's starting to feel more like Dos Amigos. The cleanliness has also gone downhill -- the restrooms in particular could really use some attention and a refresh, everything has graffiti on it and they often have an unpleasant smell. Visited Atlas during the start of a celebratory night out to grab a few drinks and a light snack. Loved the vibe of this cocktail bar and loved that it wasn't too crowded. We started with a couple cocktails. My partner loved her Singapore Sling, and raved about it. I ordered the Pimms cup and asked for a sub for the Pimm (I liked all the other ingredients) but she said she'd make me something else instead. Unfortunately I didn't like what she made. I ordered a Nomad next without the lavender but wasn't too much a fan of that either. I think the key if you want an original cocktail here is to stick with it as written and no substitutions. I appreciate craft cocktails take a while to develop, so bartenders may not like making substitutions. That said, the pretzel bites were bomb and were the highlight of the visit for me. read more

We originally came to the area for this Christmas pop up bar that I absolutely love, but there was no seats and we decided to leave after a drink to check out other bars. We found Atlas and walked in and got seats at the bar. Ambiance was nice and totally have the speakeasy theme. I absolutely love their drink options. Ladies and Gents Atlas is the one of the sexiest bars in Bishop. If you're new to Bishop Arts please make sure you add them as one of your must see spots. The layout of the bar along with awesome paintings you won't find anywhere, make this truly Instagram worthy. I love that they are one of a few bars in the area you will find in town that is open until 2am everyday with exception Tuesdays; the only day they Arwen closed. The food is bomb digity good. (The kitchen closes at 12am weekdays and 1am weekends) My favorites are the Pho, Cuban sandwich and Gyro. Like an Atlas the food is taking me around the world. Thinking about the gyro has my mouth watering. The fresh veggies, tzatziki and gyro meat omg! I usually ask for extra meat. The drinks are downright some of the best sipping in town. My favorite is the atlas shrugs, which serves 3 people. It's a rum old fashion. The Plantation 5 year rum results in a smooth balanced drink, that will leave you asking for one more. The ambience by day is great for business meetings or libation during lunch. Better yet ask about renting the speakeasy behind the bookcase. By night they turn the music up and you have a classic cocktail lounge that would be great for a 1st date, anniversary or birthday. This bar will definitely be added to my bar rotation. read more
