This restaurant/lounge is Latin and offers an array of Latin food and drink options. With it being so busy, the customer service was still great and attentive! I ended up ordering two tacos - Shrimp and Carnitas. They were bite sized and come with onions, cilantro. While I did enjoy them, I added some of the house salsa just for a little extra flavoring. I also ordered the guacamole and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh herbs and spices throughout! For drinks, I ordered the Simpatia por el Diablo and it was really a fresh tasting drink. Come to La Mina for the vibes, the drinks, and the friendly service. But, I would suggest you not come hungry. The food is a bit overpriced and not the most flavorful. There's too many good taco options in the DFW area that the tacos I ordered fell flat in flavor. I've been to La Mina a few times for the Friday night salsa party, and it is ALWAYS packed, but so much fun. I recently tried to eat dinner there, and the place was empty. I definitely do recommend this place although I'm not the hugest fan of their food. The best thing on the menu is the Carne Asada but it's the priciest thing on the menu. The vegetables that come along with are great. It's a restaurant until 10 PM and then it turns into a nightclub. There's also a "secret" speakeasy in the back that's only open on Friday and Saturday nights. Make sure to get the password from someone to get in. The ambience is pretty cool very desert like decorations. Staff is super nice to and very helpful and attentive. Don't worry about making reservations because the restaurant is pretty empty during dining hours even on the weekends. Fun plays, but I would recommend sticking with the margarita or beer or wine because they're mixed drinks really did not taste too great. Stick with what you know. We went to La Mina after seeing a viral reel talking about how good the food is at this hidden underground restaurant... which apparently closed the kitchen and operates now only as a nightclub, a change which had taken effect only a few days prior. Even the staff didn't know this change was coming. That was really a bummer. This place isn't easy to find. There is one tiny sign directing you to the underground parking garage, but the other *permanent* signage has no such indication. We missed it the first time and initially drove around the whole district trying to find it. The ambiance is really cool and has a cozy, romantic, almost speakeasy vibe and is of a proper volume to converse with friends. And upon perusing a drink list, a couple of cocktails caught my eye, but at ~$15 each and with no food offerings, we left to go find dinner first, thinking we may come back. Had they had food, we would definitely have stayed for dinner and also ordered a few cocktails. The bartender sent us up to the ground floor to the only restaurant that was open, and it was a sports bar that had fantastic looking food but was so loud (like shouting-at-the-person-next-to-you loud as they had multiple TVs and a DJ) and overcrowded, we just gave up decided to move on from the area altogether. Really interesting establishment with some fun quirks! Manager and Staff were very friendly. There was some confusion on all of our part upon arrival but we were seated right away. I saw some reviews saying the chips were not crispy, but we didn't have that problem. The salsa wasn't spicy by any means, but it also wasn't sweet like some reviews mentioned. Drinks were all good, the food was good but definitely a higher price point than I would expect for what you get. (2 enchiladas, rice and beans were $17 at time of review, house marg $8, hibiscus marg $13) The real treasure of La Mina is the speakeasy. Highly recommend the electric margarita (prickly pear drink $13)... it comes with instructions you'll just have to find out about when you go! Not great for dinner, maybe for a night out yes. Visited with my husband on a Sat night for dinner and drinks. Reservations were easy to make and when we were running late, they assisted me over the phone to hold a table for us. Their decor is beautiful and staff is pleasant We were quickly informed that WiFi is not very reliable due to being underground but that we needed to scan a barcode on the table to open the menu. They should reconsider having printed menus. Their food and alcohol selections are overpriced, and their menu selections are very limited. We ordered the plantain & the ceviche appetizers and they were tasty. The ceviche was more like a sashimi sushi dish. My husband had their lamb chop over beans dish @$34.00 (he enjoyed it but it was very simple) and I had 2 tacos which were tiny and $7.00 each. They only had 1 wine option for red and white and a small selection of tequila. At least this is what our server mentioned. I think in the future, if we return, it will be after we have dinner somewhere else and return for their music. They do have a great dj and the ambiance is nice. read more

Nice comment on my last review, but I forgot to email them and ended up wandering in on a whim after dinner at Meridian late one Friday evening. So, no free margaritas in this review. That said, there shouldn't have been ANY margaritas in this review. But here's what happened: 1. We walked up to the hostess stand and asked if we could get in the speakeasy (Apatito). She said there was a 45- to 60-minute wait, but we could have a drink at the bar in the restaurant while we waited. The restaurant was empty...just a few tables seated...and we were the only people at the bar for a while. I ordered La Ciudad, their mezcal Manhattan...always solid. 2. After about 30-45 minutes, I went back to the hostess and asked if we could get in yet. She said yes, so we closed out and headed back there...only to find that the speakeasy ALSO was practically empty (see photo). This really annoyed me, because we could have been drinking much more interesting drinks back there while we were just forced to sit at the bar for the sake of making it LOOK like the place was in high demand? 3. What saved the evening (and made this two stars, not one star) was that the bartender back there was this spunky woman who was just great. And she made some great drinks (see photos). However... 4. Last call was just after midnight. I mean, okay...I shouldn't be out that late anymore anyway, sure. But this meant we only had time for one drink. (Again, we WOULD have had time for two drinks if we hadn't been forced to waste half an hour at the restaurant bar first.) I'd go back for the bartender and the drinks, IF I'm in the area and IF I'm feeling patient (i.e., willing to be lied to about a wait). But frankly, I just sort of find myself hoping that the bartender finds a better gig. Or maybe she likes the slowness. If I lived here, I'd definitely wander over regularly and try to make myself known well enough to get in without being forced to wait. However, the speakeasy is only open Friday and Saturday evenings, so...it's just really hard to casually drop in if you don't live in The Village. It's also probably really hard for a speakeasy with such limited hours to get any word-of-mouth interest in a city where we have so many speakeasies that are open seven days a week. I get that staffing is tight right now...I just wonder if La Mina (and their Apatito speakeasy) maybe opened prematurely and would have been off to a stronger start if they were more fully staffed. read more

We came in for date night. Super cute venue tucked under the Drake hotel. The service, once they figured out who our server would be, was stellar. The music here is very loud even during the dinner hour but at least it was a good play list. We absolutely loved the shrimp cocktail and the mole dish. My soup was odd and not something I'd order again. Dessert was arroz con leche and it was delicious. Will likely come back with friends to go back to the speakeasy because it's one of the few proper speakeasies in the city and had amazing cocktails. This place was such a disappointment. Having tried a few of the other spots at the village, I was hoping this would be on par with the rest. It was not. We made reservations and got seated immediately . We loved the spot they gave us as we got a good view and feel for the place. Now once seated, to get acknowledged took way too long. It almost felt like we were invisible with the number of times we got walked passed. Once someone did come, we ordered a couple drinks and also asked for water. What's funny is the drinks came before our water did. I am not exaggerating but it was almost 20 minutes before water was brought. Chips and salsa also took forever to be given to us which in the end was fine as their salsa was on the sweeter side with no kick. We ordered the "Mexican pizza" and guacamole to start with. Those were pretty good. Entree wise, not impressed at all with the pork shoulder and chicken enchiladas. I had initially inquired about the market fish and the response received was "oh I think it's something called fluke but I don't do seafood so yeah". Ok great, I understand if you don't like seafood but as a server, you should know the menu. If not, go ask, not a big deal. I was shocked at this. They also messed up on my order by giving it to someone else. Also, why is the plantains mixed in rice yet listed deceiving as it's own thing on the menu with other entrees. Also, where is the home made tortilla for the pork shoulder as stated on the menu - yeah we never got that. We decided to pass on dessert as the food was not good. Also, we never got water when we asked her for more (when we ordered our 2nd drink with our entrees) Now the speakeasy part. We asked if we could go and the host kinda looked at us like a deer in headlights. She eventually said it's full and we needed to be put on a list. Ok great, we had dinner here with the intentions of going here but no one shared this. We asked to be put on the list, which was in front of her and asked if they'd text us. Her responses were rude and safe to say, I would not recommend this place. Also, if you guessed it, we put our name on the waitlist at 8:30 or so... never got a text. I have been coming to La Mina since I got to Dallas in November of last year. It is always been a village local favorite and the food is very appetizing. The drinks are strong and well-made. Service is usually pretty good also. The cute speakeasy in the fridge definitely adds to the flare. Since they have re-branded and re-opened, the Decour is a lot more elaborate, which is nice. You have to enter through the garage, which is pretty convenient. whether you sit inside at a table, the bar, or the outside patio, there is a beautiful aesthetic. Now, I get to the part where I have to pick a part the menu. Before the reopening, they had a torta on the menu that was delectable to say the least. Probably the best thing they had on the menu was that sandwich. It would show up on the late night menu and then became more of a secret menu item. Me and my roommate would show up sporadically through the week begging for them to add this to the menu. I don't think too many people even knew about this menu item to be honest. There were other good options on the menu before they reopened, but now it feels more like a tapas style menu. I would argue some of the items are over priced, and once you piece a full meal together, you are paying a pretty penny. I'm not sure why the menu keeps changing so much when there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. I feel like this establishment will always be a nice hidden gem, but until they bring that special Mexican sandwich back to the menu it is good for drinks at best. The service is still good and I am sure when it is lively on the weekends, It is one of the best places to be in Dallas. It is just disappointing to be told that some thing that you love dearly will be returning on the menu just to find out that it's not. We must have waited twenty minutes to place our order and waited even longer to finally get our food and drinks. When we asked about the speakeasy, we were told that we had to be given the secret code by our server but that they weren't just supposed to offer it up to everyone... Then we started noticing pretty much everyone else was being let in. By the time they decided to give us the "code" there was a two hour wait for the speakeasy. The food was lukewarm, under seasoned, and plated like it was being served to barn animals. When I complained to the server he said that his manager Anthony would come over and "take care of it." For those who've enjoyed La Mina over the years, Fyi, they've transitioned from Mexican to Latin, however the layout and bar are still familiar, and you'll appreciate the new complements to decor, cuisine and entertainment.
