Probably one of the best restaurants I have ever experienced! We had an appetizer of bay scallops and potato skin with an avocado purée. What? Yes, and it was delicious. The salad with the African basil dressing - delicious. The pecan crusted salmon with barley and Romesco sauce had me googling Romesco sauce. Lovely, lovely, lovely. The crème brûlée had me at a loss for words. The remoteness of the location is worth the adventure for crafted flavors and purposeful artistry! Delicious and so pretty! Truly. I forgot to take a picture of the salmon but I brought leftovers home and I have to admit, so delicious heated up for lunch. Memorable. I've been here twice here in the last few months. What can I say. Everything is very good. My last visit included a winter vegetable chowder but it was more of a bisque. Really good. I had scallops in a risotto, I think sweet potato with some unique vegetables . Perfect risotto. If I had to ding one thing it's the salad that comes with the meal. One one hand I like it is minimalist, it's a light break between appetizer and meal but it just needs something. The dressing is great but just greens? I would like it smaller and with something added. But this is being extra picky about a place where I enjoy every meal. And try the Riesling read more

We celebrated my birthday at the Savory Grille on Saturday evening. There was 13 of us in the Arbor Room. The food was excellent everyone loved their dinner. What an absolutely amazing dining experience at Savory Grill. This restaurant is tucked away out of the heart of the Lehigh Valley but so worth the drive. You 100% need reservations as they get very busy and the dining area is rather small. The chef was featuring a classic dish throwback menu this week. All menu items were classic dishes with a modern flare. We started off with two appetizers the escargot and shrimp cocktail. The escargot was in a sauce with mushrooms that was just so good you wanted to lick the bowl. The shrimp were huge and came with a homemade cocktail sauce and horseradish foam, which was a nice touch. For dinner I opted for Veal Oscar since veal is my favorite meat and you don't see it often. It came with a medley of veggies, mashed potatoes and lump crab meat. It was melt in your mouth amazing, the sauce was so good and I love how generous they are with the veggies. My mom had the scallops and they were also amazingly huge and very tasty. My step dad had the beef Wellington which was juicy and cooked to perfection. Since it was a birthday celebration we went all out and ordered dessert, looking back it was quite glutinous but oh well! The desserts were equally as delicious, we had apple crisp, creme brûlée and green tea ice cream. Lastly I want to mention that I am gluten free. The chef was so kind and told me that he could accommodate basically anything on the menu for me. I had no issues whatsoever and I appreciate the hospitality on their end. Solid 3 star disguised as a 5. My family is no stranger to expensive elaborate meal thus just wasn't one of them. I'll break it down. Wait staff: knowledgeable, well trained on up sells, not on dietary restrictions, I asked for low fat and no fried food, server recommended foie gras & a fried airline chicken dish, I couldn't eat either and no accommodation or apology was offered. Drinks: overpriced and average at best Food: overall under seasoned, salad had so little dressing it was as if it wasn't even there. Bread had a chemical taste to it and butter was unsalted. Entrees were under seasoned, every dish had the same vegetables and were missing components promised on the menu. Desserts were average, nothing special. Final thoughts, I wouldn't go back or recommend to anyone at this point. There's potential here but with better training and execution it would be worth the price. read more

My family and I were there for a six-course vegetarian meal. As a three-year vegetarian, IT WAS FANTASTIC. Each course was well planned and executed perfectly. Shawn, the chef, came out and talked about every one. He knows where all the ingredients come from and cares about what he puts on your plate. You can tell he really has a passion for what he does and likes to get creative in the kitchen. The whole staff was equally as wonderful. They got our jokes and were so friendly and charming. This was our first time here and we were celebrating my 40th birthday. I chose Savory because of all the great reviews and I wanted to try a different place. If I could, I would actually give them a 2.5 stars rather than 3, but that's not an option and they don't deserve a 2 star review. Starting with the good: - service was good - ambiance was nice - the octopus with squid ink was tender and pretty good. Hard to compare it to anything as I've never had it before. - my youngest ordered the shrimp and grits. From the few bites I had of his, it tasted great. The ok or below par - my wife and oldest both had filet. I had a tried my oldest. The steak was over cooked and lacked a lot of flavor. He had asked for some pink and there was none. Still it was the lack of seasoning that stood out. - I had the lamb, while it was cooked perfectly, like the steak, it lacked seasoning. My meal came with Brussels sprouts and some sort of pasta (perhaps orzo). They were fine, but not at the caliber I was expecting for an almost $50 dish. The bad: - my wife's potatoes were mostly raw. Maybe they just had an off night. Had this meal been more affordable I could / would overlook some of this. At this price point though I can't. To be fair, I did not raise this when I was there. Time between courses was a little longer than typically found but it gave us time to let the food settle and didn't feel rushed. Duck was amazing. Crème brûlée for dessert was great. my husband and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and decided to stop in yesterday. We drove 30 minutes on Friday night and arrived at 8:30. The Websites said the restaurant is open until 10. Upon arriving, we were given some awkward looks by the staff. The restaurant was about 25% full. We were asked if we were there for dinner and if we had a reservation. We did not, but there was plenty of space open. The waiter went into the kitchen and then came back out and said that we could not be served because they already cleaned the grill and we're closing up. This was an hour and a half before the posted close time. This is extremely unprofessional, and a big waste of our time. If your close time is 10 PM, then you should be open until 10 PM. Certainly not with a cleaned up the kitchen at 8:30. we were also told that people usually make a reservation so they just decided to clean up because they had no more. if that's your policy, put it on the website so you don't waste peoples time. read more

Make sure you have a reservation and let them know if you have dietary restrictions which they are happy to accommodate. Last night, we ordered out from Savory Grille. The person who answered the phone was very pleasant and helpful. When I arrived at the restaurant, the feeling I got when walking in was warm, pleasant, welcoming country inn that also smelled great. Entering the dining room, I was greeted by the bartender with a warm smile and friendly hello. I paid for our dinner and the chef/owner Mr. Duffy brought our dinners out, with a greeting, a warm smile and a sincere thank you. He had packaged our salads separately so they wouldn't wilt from the heat of our entrees. We live around 15 minutes from Savory Grille and even thought the food cooled on the way home, it was wonderful! We both had the BBQ rubbed pork tenderloin. The sauce was delicious, the potatoes that come with the entrée were. The salads and the bread that accompanied the meals were also excellent. Where is this place? Macungie? Where the hell is that? Out in the friggin' sticks, I found. What's a wonderful chef and crew doing hiding in "hick-ville" USA. Maybe they are in the witness protection program. ;-) This place was absolutely fabulous. This is 5 star all the way, no matter if it's located in Macungie, or Phila., or even NYC. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, I was stunned and pleased every "course" of the way. (Albeit sans the leftover container which "not our server", the one who cleared the table, forgot to save for my lovely wavy blonde haired date for the evening). OUR server was Chris, and he was the best one could ask...knowledgeable, credible, poised and experienced. A beautiful cocktail menu, a couple beers on tap, some west coast wines by the glass (we didn't ask for the full wine list) and we were set to sail in the elegant, cozy old but refurbished country Inn. Apps: The pork belly porchetta was amazingly tasty, cooked crispy on the outside, sooooo tender on the inside, melt-in-your-mouth tender I might add, served with a garnish of micro greens and a few pickled turnips. I could have left right then and have been extremely happy with the restaurant choice for my birthday. My sweet and lovely partner had the gnudi for an appetizer which was more than enough for two, let alone one. Soft, pillowy, gnocci-like dumplings in a wonderful light sauce, beurre blanc-type, were so texturely and flavorfully perfect, and I had a few myself, of course. Entrees: My table-mate had the pork chop, big, thick and palate-pleasing, the plate decorated with the chef's choice of vegetables of the sweetest julienne'd carrots you ever had, a baby bok choy, some spinach, and broccolini. I devoured the harpoon killed swordfish, it's life not terminated until after it reproduced many times, and with the harpoon, "humanely" I was told. Google it, really cool shit. The swordfish, was tender, moist, cooked to the exact temperature I prefer, served with the same medley of veggies. Dessert: The bread pudding, end of story Overall: The romance from Chef to table still exists. I feel fortunate to have experienced the Savory Grill. read more

I have had the pleasure of dining at the Savory Grille on several occasions. Each experience has been nothing short of amazing! When making reservations, I recommend asking for the Arbor Room. It's ambiance and cozy feel makes for a perfect evening. If dining during the summer, the windows will often be open which sets up for a welcome breeze. Jen (the server I request when visiting) is an absolute asset to the business. She is friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, charming and makes you feel right at home. I did have another server once before and it did impact my experience significantly so I make it a point to request Jen for that reason as well. The amuse bouche makes for a remarkable beginning (as mentioned in other reviews, the full experience does usually take 2-3 hours on average - it is worth it)! It gives a perfect snapshot of Chef Shawn's eclectic style and attention to detail. The salads are always fresh, homemade dressings - a perfect blend of flavors and textures. I will usually get an appetizer which are smaller portions but quite a delight. Even the bread and butter are a wonderful accent to the pre-meal. The entrees are always admirably cohesive in texture, flavor and color. Shawn is a master of his craft. His creations display not only his true talent and skill but the love put into constructing the dishes. Every component is guaranteed to be cooked to perfection. The desserts are to die for! The Crème Brulee with fresh berries is a favorite of mine but I will try something new every so often. I have never been let down. You undoubtedly get what you pay for at Savory Grille. Generous portions (almost unheard of in many fine dining establishments), impeccable creations by Shawn and his staff, a beautiful setting. Couldn't ask for anything more. Since the menu is always changing seasonally I can't recommend any one dish, but you really can't make a bad choice. I come from Los Angeles where we have many great restaurants and the Savory grille is just as good. The service is also great and their cocktails just as creative as their food. My wife and I both had the Cap Ribeye Steak which was cooked to perfection. Best meal ever is a pretty bold statement but it was. We finished off our meal with Baklava and a scoop of ice cream which was fantastic. Very reasonably price for the quality of the food. Decided to give Savory Grille a try for my birthday! This little gem is definitely tucked away off the beaten path and has a small town sleepy exterior with a posh sophisticated interior! Service was impeccable, and delivered with a smile. They were incredibly tolerant of our Charlotte's Web jokes and singing, always a plus! One thing that will almost always get you that fifth star is when you feed me something I've had a hundred times, in a way I've never had it before, and this was their potato... crispy... cheesy... brick? I don't know how to even explain it! It was like a potato casserole but in chip form? It was very cool and original. This was paired with a very well prepared bison. Their duck and filet were also well done. For my part, like an idiot, I came to a grille and ordered Lobster. It was definitely not my favorite. The noodles were a little underwhelming and the sauce was a bit weird. For what it's worth, very few places get lobster right in my opinion, this includes some of the best 3-Star Michelin restaurants in NY. Alas. Oh! I forgot about the appetizers! Crispy duck! These little guys were great! Although I would've liked a little more sauce. The empanada was also spot on. For dessert, my family is a sucker for Creme Brulee, this was a super sized offering! Scorched the right amount. I opted for the bread pudding! While not the best I've ever had (sorry, it's a high bar!) it was delicious. I also had a B52, this "Normally a shot" drink was served chilled, in a martini glass, and was something I'd order again and again. Okay, one last MINOR ding. Seriously, worlds most boring bathroom. No art, flowers, something whimsical? Nothin'... What's a guy supposed to look at! I think there's an opportunity here to have a little fun. Ultimately, in this part of PA, you'd have to drive 50 miles to get a grille experience that's on par with Savory. To me, that's as good as it gets. read more

Chose Savory Grille for a date night with my husband, away from kids... something relaxing and good - this place hit the mark. The atmosphere is really welcoming, nice, relaxing, slightly sophisticated - enough for you to feel special dining there, but without the presumptuousness. Staff is very warm, welcoming and very professional. The food was absolutely remarkable. There are enough choices on the menu to please all pallets. We each ordered an appetizer to share (octopus and foie gras) - outstanding! Octopus was served with sautéed vegetables, a little spicy, octopus was perfectly cooked! Foie gras was served with something in a shape of a dumpling, very nice and balanced dish. For our main course we chose: bison steak - it came with veggies and fried potatoes - yam yam yam! not gamy, but perfectly cooked, melts in your mouth - perfect! We also ordered scallops - they were perfect! served over a load of wonderfully prepared veggies, squash spaghetti, bok choy, and loads of others... mouth watering. For dessert we had home made ice cream and blueberry sorbet - to die for. They have a nice selection of drinks. Also a small but nice wine list. I kept thinking about this meal even the next day - that's how good it was! We will for sure be back. read more
