The service was very unprofessional, and I am extremely disappointed in the management's operation here. Upon arriving for dinner, we were turned away without any attempt to check for available tables. Despite there being multiple tables available on OpenTable both at the time of our arrival and throughout the night, we were told they were fully booked. The manager explained that the "two" restaurants operated separately, but failed to acknowledge that they should have checked availability at their other restaurant, which technically operates under the same establishment. No sincere apology was offered, leading us to dine elsewhere due to the lack of communication from both the manager and staff. We felt a lack of respect for who we were, making it one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I rarely designate a 5-star grade to any restaurant, as most fall short in one of the more important characteristics I require. However, this being stated my family enjoyed a wonderful luncheon this past Thursday afternoon. we focused on the lobster rolls, salad, and french fries having heard from a friend who found the above-mentioned lunch noteworthy. We finished the meal with a piece of chelseas pumpkin cake with vanilla ice cream. The Hotel Bethlehem is a Bethlehem staple and the dining in the 1741 Terrace is wonderful. If you're able to, ask for a seat by the window which overlooks Main Street. It's a great view and perfect for people watching. Our sever Bob is a veteran and kindly explained the menu and even shared where ingredients came from which is nice. Sunday-Thursday in addition to the regular a la carte menu they feature a $45 3 course fixed price menu which comes with an appetizer, entree and dessert. You can also add a wine pairing to that for $20. My mom and ordered off the fixed price menu and the portion sizes were perfect for us. I started with the roasted carrots which also featured snap peas, it was excellent. My mom had the citrus salad which was refreshing. For my entree I had the 4oz filet which was served with mushrooms and gratin potatoes, my steak was a perfect medium rare and absolutely delicious. My mom had the swordfish which had a nice mango salsa and roasted veggies it was also delicious. My stepdad opted for the strip steak off the a la carte menu and his steak was also cooked to perfection. Our creme brûlée and chocolate lava cake with a blueberry sauce and coconut ice cream topped off the evening. From start to finish everything about our meal was outstanding. Our water glasses were always full, plates cleared efficiently and friendly service. Of course if you've never been to the Hotel Bethlehem before be sure to take yourself on a tour, check out the two room for a cocktail, take in the gift shop, the ballrooms and even the bathrooms are fancy with fresh flowers. read more

Worst anniversary dinner I've had in all of my marriage. The food sucked and the drinks were lousy too. I wasn't even seated in the Terrace. I came here for my anniversary and we were put in the bar even though I had said it was an anniversary dinner and asked to be seataed in the Terrace. We had heard about this place all over town and people raved about it. The hotel is old I will give it that, but it feels so drab and boring. No vibe at all. They boast some sort of a meatloaf dish that was supposed to be one of their best. My husband got it. It was lousy. I could have just stayed home and made it myself. After leaving a disappointing review on Open Table , the Manager reached out to me , to express her deepest apologies, and offered a certificate for Dinner for Two. We went for Restaurant Week last evening. Ambiance nice but the room was extremely cold. Yes, we are in the middle of a cold winter but people were sitting with their coats on and when I brought it up to a manager she said "oh it is a bit cold in here I guess I should turn up the heat"...really. Let's talk about service...basically horrible with the exception of a young female food runner. We waited over an hour for our main course. By the time it came we were full on bread and butter. Server never checked in on us and it was just bad service. So now for the food. Whether restaurant week or other it was awful. Shrimp tempura on an Asian slaw was some frozen tempura put on a bagged slaw and carrots with no dressing. It was terrible. Main course was 3 shrimp that were to be grilled but clearly were not over pasta. Basically, this place is so overpriced and I would suggest staying far away from eating here. read more

There's many options along Main to go for brunch these days. And Hotel Bethlehem's Musical Brunch is certainly a classy affair with a big city feel without breaking the bank. Two people can go to brunch for $80 before alcohol....which is quite impressive if you can get through brunch dry, but I simply can never turn down a martini or mimosa from the Tap Room. The bartenders usually do an awesome job. You get a carving station, an omelette station, a waffle station, salad station, pasta station, bread and cheese station along with petit fours. Plant based options on the buffet are lacking, but a vegetarian portobello cheesesteak sandwich is available on the tap room menu. On special occasions, the staff will be popping champagne at no additional charge. Brunch usually runs until 1:30 for both terrace and tap room seating. I feel the terrace is just more intimate for brunch as it is for supper which equally boasts an exquisite and seasonal menu. The chef has been experiencing with some sophisticated flavors as of late. I wouldn't say the Tap Room is noisy, as the staff usually does a wonderful job keeping things controlled even on special occasions. If you still prefer your intimacy, the terrace is the way to go! They also do fun events throughout the year like wine pairing classes to the annual roaring twenties ball to NYE. The ice cream parlor across the street is something that's worth a peek too. Free parking on site as well as shuttle parking in the event additional parking is needed. A preserved landmark by historic hotels of America, it's comical to read some of the old laminated menus on what was served at the hotel back in the day as piano keys tinkle in the distance and the aroma of a juniper blend (the hotel's signature scent) tickles your nose pleasantly. read more

Went to lunch with a group of 6 after a local college graduation. While the food was ok, WORST service ever, took an hour for a simple flatbread appetizer and another 30 minutes for the burgers. Went for a birthday brunch. The place was nice enough and the buffet setup was amazing. Carving station, omelet station, the usual works. The waiter seemed flustered. Half way through our second course my date found a long piece of plastic in her waffle. We discretely told our waiter who proceeded to argue that it didn't make sense for us to find a piece of plastic. He said that they cook them in the back and that the plastic would've melted into the waffle, which quite frankly is even scarier. He walked away and said he would show the chef. We were never visited by a manager or anyone to discuss the situation. While I truly believe it was an accident, it was not handled well at all. We didn't let it totally ruin the birthday celebration but it was a bad start to the day. read more

Brunch at Hotel Bethlehem is a must! We went for the 2021 Mother's Day Brunch and would like to go back every year! We called about a month in advance to make a reservation and were placed on a waitlist. Only a few days later, we received a call that they could get us in at 1pm. Although not the typical brunch time, we were overjoyed that we would be able to attend. When we arrived on Mother's Day, we were seated in The Terrace. The greenery and flowers brightened the day and the large windows allowed for a beautiful view of Historic Bethlehem. The piano/accordion player further added to the ambiance. The waitress presented me with a red carnation in celebration of Mother's Day. The waitress provided very clear and helpful instructions about how the brunch worked. Non-alcoholic beverages and desserts would be brought to the table by the waitress. All other items would be served by waitstaff in the brunch line and you could go back as many times as you wanted. In the brunch line, they had a large assortment of both breakfast and lunch options- omelets made to order, French toast, Belgium waffles, sausage, and bacon. They also had prime rib, short rib, pork loin, salmon, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and vegetables. I think we each had four full plates of food and both of us liked the French toast the best! Once we were completely stuffed, we requested dessert be served. The waitress brought out a large plate with bite-sized chocolates and baked goods. The coconut/butterscotch/chocolate cake was amazing! We had such an enjoyable time at brunch and can't wait to attend again! read more

I sat at the table in the pretty 1741 on the Terrace room at the Historic Hotel Bethlehem last night taking in the pretty nighttime view of the historic downtown Bethlehem shopping district. I looked at my wife and asked, "Why has it been so long since we were last here?" Not only is the location beautiful, but the food is just really great. I didn't order anything too exotic last night, just the crab crakes. The plate was excellent. They were served with sliced fingerling potatoes, asparagus and a nice aioli. My wife had Ricotta Cavatelli, a wonderful pasta dish with asparagus, mushrooms and porcini cream. That was soooo good. We rounded off our meals with a couple of different selections from their red wine selection. Out two guests both tried the Taproom Meatloaf... which they said was very good! We finished off with a chocolate/peanut butter gateau. It was layers of thin chocolate cake with a very good peanut butter creme (not too peanut buttery) and a banana with a burnt brown sugar topic on the side... along with a cup of coffee. So we left last night with the determination to get back to the Hotel Bethlehem on a more regular basis. When you find a great little restaurant like this, you should take advantage of it. We'll make it one of our regulars. BTW, if you eat in the 1741 on the Terrace room, take note of the beautiful Mercer tile on the floor. If my history is correct, the Hotel Bethlehem was built in 1922. I'd guess that's when these tiles were installed. You might want to look more into these Mercer tiles made in Doylestown, PA. (Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, Doylestown, PA). read more

We visited Terrace to check out the restaurant week menu. It was wonderful. They were out of the ceviche, and that's understandable because it sounds so good, so if you want to get that make sure to try to get there early. But everything was wonderful - the risotto and fish was perfect and their use of ingredients a gross courses was interesting - their use of strawberry and rhubarb with cheese and toast as an appetizer is interesting and different in contrast to the same strawberry and rhubarb with short cake for desert. The wait staff is also excellent, knowledgeable and considerate. Make sure to tip at least 20%, hopefully more. Enjoy their company, relax in their beautiful dining room, and look out over Bethlehem. read more

I made the usual Christmas brunch reservation for my family of 6 for Christmas brunch 2022. We were told we would be seated in the 1741 room. When we arrived we were seated elsewhere despite what appeared to be available tables in the 1741 room. We were placed in a downstairs event room. The service was horrible and the waiter even worse. It appears that a lovely Christmas tradition has been marred by over booking and too many people. The service was astoundingly terrible. We will not return. read more

We were a group of 10 with a reservation. No one ordered anything out of the ordinary and apps were salad and a soup. Took an hour and 1/2 to get our salads. Another hour for our entrees which arrived Luke warm. My beef short ribs were cold and 1/3 of the dish was just fat. Another 45 minutes for ice cream. Total of 3 hours for over-priced, poorly cooked and not hot food. Would not recommend this restaurant at all. read more

Love this place. Service is friendly yet professional. View and atmosphere are quaint and charming. Menu is creative and traditional. Anything fish is first rate. Steaks are delicious but not steakhouse league. Desserts are a special treat, whether you choose the Penn State ice cream or something made in house. The three stars should be 2.5. The view and location is absolutely perfect, but you'd think they'd hire the best chefs and waitstaff to make this restaurant a 5 star. The drinks sounded unique and classy but lacked flavor and presentation. The entrance was blocked completely by a wedding cocktail hour and our entire party went up two flights of stairs before locating the entrance. I'm not sure why they don't label the entrance better. The hummus was presented like someone used a ladle with gravy but instead it was olive oil in hummus. The mahi mahi sandwich was burnt and on the worst version of a roll. The fries were described by our party as McDonald's fries left out. Hard as a rock and cold. The pork shank was very dry, Mac n cheese mediocre. The cheese steak was fine and the steaks. The service was very slow but very friendly. Please work on the food, speed of service, and help people with the entrance. Also... parking is a problem for such limited seating. read more

Others (like busperson) went out of their way to do a great job. Cons: food was just ok. ( bit of a letdown). I ordered asparagus app, lobster Mac and cheese. $14 worth of lobster and I could barely fine it. Larger piece was about 1/4" but most was minuscule pink bits. read more

I've had eaten here twice so far. The food and service were great the first time. The second time I went, the food was even better, but the waiter made a comment about what I ordered. I ordered hummus to share among my family for appetizer and for my meal I ordered Mac and cheese and a side of French fries (that were also shared). After I ordered our waiter commented "That's a lot of carbs." I didn't respond because I was so shocked. I am a young girl, who is living in a generation where their appearance is constantly criticized. It did not make me feel good. I felt very embarrassed. My family and I go out to dinner every Saturday. We are all on diets and look forward to having a special dinner every week. However, this experience ruined that for me. My concern would be that the waiter would say that again to someone who was also self conscious. read more

My girlfriend and I have been to enough restaurants to know when we're about to get swindled and pimped. There were too many red flags in the first two minutes of the experience to stick around. Menu items look like they've been on there since the 80's, water was already poured at the table on our arrival, server had a stank attitude, we had to ask for a wine list, and no background music. Just the sound of other guests mumbling and silverware clanging. How awkward. We left before ordering because these guys haven't realized they're not the only act in town anymore. read more

Oysters Rockefeller were just right, Ahi tuna w/prosciutto wrapped belgian endives was delicious, even though the prosciutto was a bit too cooked Butternut squash dish was actually a soup, something that isn't clear from the menu. Sauvignon Blanc from Australia was fantastic! My coworkers enjoyed the prime NY strip, surf and turf, and lobster bisque. Live piano during dinner was very enjoyable but a bit too loud for conversation and for hearing/communicating with the waiter.....the waiter was trying very hard to do a good job...a little too hard at times. Ok first, what was good. The service & the salad. Everything else was absolutely horrendous. This place is all hype and nothing to show. I don't even think the staff would eat the food here. I had the lobster Mac n cheese & the lamb chops. The Mac n cheese was tasteless and the lamb came with a putrid purée of turnip that people in a psych ward wouldn't eat.
