(Look, I get it. This is a school and this is a teaching/learning situation but at the end of the day, it's not they're giving it away for free. If they were, that would be different, but at $40, I'm allowed to have some expectations and to offer some "constructive criticism." Set up: Easy as pie. Anything current lives on their OpenTable page. Service: Not good. While other tables were told about some nightly specials, our person never said a word nor did she offer any drink refills. We did get refills but that was done by a different person working (the adult who seemed to be in charge). The one good thing was that with only four or five occupied tables, the food was flying out of the kitchen. Definitely no three hour dinner here. Course 1: Harissa Glazed Shrimp & Sweet Corn Bisque The harissa glaze had almost no flavor and while the presentation of the bisque is interesting, (the dry ingredients come out in a bowl and then the liquid is poured over the top), the pea salad was like eating bullets. It was like the salad went through a food dehydrator and now your trying to bring it back to life at the table. Course 2: Seared Scallops & Blackened Salmon Both of these were very good. The salmon and pineapple are great together as are the scallops and the cauliflower risotto. Course 3: Lemon Blueberry Roll & Chocolate Mousse Cake As the person who ordered the roll, let me say this. No on this one. Hard no. The flavors do not work well together and it tastes very...synthetically sweet. I'm sure there are good intentions on that one but the road to culinary hell is paved with those same intentions. The presentation here is 100% not the problem. Everything looked visually appealing and clearly a lot of time and effort is spent on esthetics before it leaves the kitchen. But, as Candy K. said many years ago, it's not the technique that's an issue here, I think it's more the quality of the ingredients and/or trying to put things together (the current pizza special is peach/shrimp) that realistically do not/should not go together (aka being overly ambitious). I'm glad we went and tried something new and different. But to be honest, I think it's a once and done. Maybe if the right menu things are being offered we would give it another shot but at the end of the day, dropping $100 on something you at best, only kind of/sort of liked is a bit much. I came here for lunch today after reading many positive reviews on a local food group that I follow. This is absolutely a must try for anyone in the area. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left we had a fantastic experience. Our waitress, and the other people who were working were so friendly and fantastic. This is the best service we've had in a restaurant in a very, very long time. We each got three courses, lunch is al a carte. The prices are super reasonable, and the portions are generous. Everything was absolutely fantastic. You can tell a lot of care went into preparing these dishes. The restaurant is so cute and super clean. Won a gift certificate for the Hampton Winds at the Wine & Food Festival in 2017. Decided to use it to celebrate our 53rd wedding anniversary and what a great lunch we were served. Our server named RACHEL was exceptional. Answered numerous questions and served our meal with great skill! We chose lobster bisque/clam chowder soup duet and black bean/corn chowder combo cleverly serving both in one bowl. The short ribs with pierogi and the seafood trio were excellent. This restaurant is operated by the culinary education department of the Hampton Community College and they are being taught well. I recommend trying the restaurant which I believe is open for service during the school year. We plan on returning to try the 5 course dinner. read more

We were in the area for a show and were looking for somewhere to have a nice lunch before heading home. We came across the listing for this restaurant on Trip Advisor and am so glad we did! They don't do any sort of advertising so it's really a word of mouth type of thing. We had an absolutely fabulous lunch here. We took advantage of the 3 course lunch with soup or salad, entree and dessert for $22.50. We went home with leftovers because the portions were so generous! My husband had a wonderfully cooked to order Porterhouse steak and I had an amazing salmon dish served with Saffron risotto. I can't get over how good this place is. We had good, attentive service and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely a hidden gem. My only disappointment is that we don't live in the area so that we can visit this place more often. One note though, it is not easy to find the restaurant. There is zero signage for the restaurant on campus, the street address is for the entire campus not the restaurant venue so you when you use GPS, it simply brings you to the campus. The restaurant is in the North Campus area, inside the Alumni Hall building. Go! You won't regret it. read more

My husband & I joined the NetYP folks for a dinner at the Hampton Winds. It was only the third night of the session, so we knew to expect a few bits of craziness. $30 prix fixe for dinner (though there are a few entrees with an upcharge - plus additional cost for soda/coffee/tea) - a la carte lunches - plus it's BYOB (bonus!). Some of the dishes were great...others were not so great. I loved my appetizer & salad...but wanted nothing to do with my soup. My steak entree was super fatty & my dessert was just okay. Other people had awesome entrees but not so great other courses. YMMV, depending on what you order. With better choices, I probably would have given it a 4. Our table did find an epic fail in the salmon - nowhere near fresh & one of them ended up with raw fish. They did offer to bring another one or another dish - but we'd already waited so long and no one wanted to go through the hassle. Since it's prix fixe, they cannot (or will not) discount your dinner...just replace courses as necessary. Major downfall was slow service. Probably not a huge deal to some, but our dinner took 3.5 hours. Now, we had a large group,s o I'm sure that didn't help. Plan to spend a lot of time here, though. I'd go back. I'd like to try it for lunch. I think it's a very good value at $30, but remember that it is a culinary school so it's not perfection. My husband thought that most of the food downfalls had more to do with lack of quality ingredients, not skill, and I tend to agree with him. read more

Hampton Winds has perhaps the best value for a gourmet, five-course meal in town. The mouthwatering menu is lengthy and diverse. Seriously, if you can't find something on their menu you like, I'm pretty certain you don't like food. Keep in mind the menu does change periodically so check their website for the current menu. On our most recent visit (Fall 2012), my party and I ordered a variety of dishes from their dinner menu. Most were very good and some just good. Appetizer standouts included the pulled pork and Napa spring rolls (which included a wonderful ginger soy mirin dip) and a succulent veal osso buco. The mulligatawny soup (think Seinfeld's Soup Nazi episode) was a delicious surprise with subtle notes of curry and coconut. The entree superstars were definitely the juicy duck breast and the well-seasoned diver scallops. The dessert course was bit of a mixed bag. The panna cotta with stewed berries was light but I felt they used too much gelatin. The flourless chocolate cake had very good flavor yet the fantastic salted caramel pot de crème won this round hands down. Service is always a bit of a miss but that's probably because there are a limited number of waitresses on the floor at any given time (like two) serving all these courses. My party of four arrived at 6:30 PM and we didn't leave until well after 9:00 PM. Yea, that's a long dinner, but in their defense, we were talkers. I strongly suggest exhibiting self-control when the bread plate comes. You'll surely be tempted by the large assortment of warm carbohydrates, but it'll only take up valuable stomach real estate. Trust me. Also, make your reservations way ahead of time. They take reservations up to one month in advance and it does fill up. This place is a keeper. read more

Hampton Winds is located on the campus of Northampton Community College and it serves as the training facility for the NCC Culinary Program. The menu at Hampton Winds is seasonal and it varies depending on the semester. Guests at Hampton Winds experience a 5 course $30 price fix menu of their choosing based on current offerings. Some of the menu items have an up-charge associated with said item to push it over the $30 range. Typically this consists of an appetizer, soup, salad, entree, and dessert. The environment is cozy, reservations are required, and it is BYOB. Additional information about Hampton Winds including current menu's can be located on the NCC school website. Overall, despite the fact that you are obviously on a community college's campus, Hampton Winds is a very unique place in the Lehigh Valley food scene. The setting is more like a high end banquet facility than a hip modern restaurant, yet it doesn't seem to matter. For me this was not a problem since our party fully understood that we were enjoying a quality meal being prepared by culinary students who are just learning what it takes to become the next top chef. Personally, I did not feel that this took away from the experience in the slightest degree. The beauty of Hampton Winds is you are free to enjoy yourself, your party does not feel rushed, and you can really relax. The service wasn't bad nor was it good. Overall I would classify it as adequate. The food from top to bottom was great. The highlights of our night were the empanadas, the New England Clam Chowder, the fresh watermelon salad, and the filet. Everything was prepared well and our table was singing nothing but praises. You can't go many places where you can get duck, lamb emrsed in a 5 course meal for $30. The food was great, the atmosphere was intimate and knowing it was all help culinary chefs become 5 star prodigies was even better! This is definitely one of Bethlehem's wide kept secrets! We had five people in our party and got to pick an appetizer, salad, soup, entree and desert. I had calamari, spinach/fruit salad, beer cheese soup (best soup ever!) and duck. My boyfriend had the rack of lamb that was also phenomenal. My mom had a really good appetizer - something BBQ. Overall, it was a great experience! Some notes - it is BYOB. We brought a bottle of wine. Other tables had cases of beer for their big parties. You need reservations in advance, so plan ahead and only groups of 10! I just recently went here for lunch. It was a great pick. There was a three course meal for $20 dollars so I took advantage of the variety I could get. The crab bisque so was fantastic and everything was presented nicely. Although the food was great, the service was only okay. If the service had been better I would have rated it a 5. As the spouse of a NCC Culinary Arts graduate, I am intimately familiar with the Hampton Winds. I have to say, training students by literally putting them in a restaurant environment is a great idea. It allows them real-life feedback from actual customers, which helps them learn on the spot. I have been there many times and the food is always great. Is it perfect? No, but that's the point. You can see how hard they are working to understand the properties of the food and the combinations that work, and you know that there is sincere effort going into the dishes that you get (versus a chain restaurant where that's not always the case). Also, the soup sampler is great - they're all good, so if you and a friend each get it, you can have them ALL without having to "choose". The waitstaff is excellent and the choices you get on a fixed price menu are varied and appealing, considering the price per item is very low. $30 for five courses? Sign me up for that! read more

As a former student of the NCC culinary arts program I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that the food and dining experience are one of a kind. The student chefs undergo a very intense training regement and an equally intense 6 months working in the kitchen of Hampton Winds. The instructors are no pushovers and they are very passionate about their jobs. The food is New American. The menu revolves as per which chef is running the kitchen. The menu rotates and so do the culinary students. This means that your dining experience can and will vary each time. The pastry cart wheeled to table after dinner will just make you drool! Delicious lunch today at Hampton Winds! Amazing bread basket nearly demolished while we waited for our group to arrive in the sleet and freezing rain. Delicious tropical salad to start, wonderful fresh spinach, berries, tropical fruits in a coco loco dressing. I had blackened salmon stuffed with crabmeat for my entree. Served with sautéed vegetables and a potato , lentil, sweet potato, grain side was perfect! Table mates enjoyed Steak Dianne and Orange Roughy. Some of the beef was tough, but all of the fish entrees were eaten. Dessert trio was wonderful. Small near disaster with a server spilling coffee on 2 at my table, but no harm, had a terrific experience. Had friends from out of state and they were impressed that this was a college run venture. Had a wonderful dining experience on February 3, 2017 . Everything was was just amazing and our party of six had a great time. Only thing to note some of our soups and dinners were warm not hot but that didn't stop us from enjoying every bite. I am glad my sister lives in the area I would never have found it on my own. I've been to Hampton Winds many times, and in the past have been extremely satisfied. But, lately I have felt underwhelmed. I was there in December and again in March, and both times I was disappointed. Some of the complaints from both experiences are: food could have been hotter; salad greens were wilted and mushy; one of the sauces tasted rancid; too many entrees with upcharges. Very high quality food at bargain prices, well worth visiting. It's a small room and can be noisy, and the service is sometimes not perfect, but the quality of the food makes it well worthwhile. Be warned: it is difficult to impossible to find. There is zero signage for the restaurant on campus, the street address is for the entire campus not the restaurant venue so you cannot use gps. Especially in the dark and on weekends, the campus is deserted and ill lit, and the restaurant does not answer its phone during peak hours.
