The most OVERRATED non-chain steakhouse in the Lehigh Valley that's not named Prime. I have had decent meals here, but the steak has never been the highlight of my meal....at a steakhouse. Price points are WAY off, I feel like I'm dining in a city but I'm actually in the suburbs of Bethlehem. Not only are the apps absurdly priced, but $7.50 for a Yuengling lager DRAFT is just criminal. I don't mind paying for good food or craft cocktails, but this is just blatant disregard for even a regular customer. The restaurant is beautiful and the bar is too; the bar is very fun especially in warm weather. These are the only things saving Blue from a 2 star review. Do yourself a favor and go to the other 3 excellent steakhouses in the area, skip this one and save your money for much better restaurants. read more

Some really high points and some really really low points to our meal at blue. I'll start with the atmosphere was magnificent. Candles burning, beautiful restaurant very modern very welcoming. Service was five star. Our waitress was Kathy E. and she knew the menu and she answered every question that we had. My water glass never reached half empty. Four refills without saying a word. I ordered a drink, but I wanted it to come with my main course and she was spot on. Now the food... Bread for the table with butter. Don't understand how butter can't have a butter taste. I don't understand what they're using but the butter is terrible. French onion soup- probably the best I've ever had. Wife had a filet and I had the porterhouse. Both had an extreme lack of flavor. Both came with butter on top and again the butter has no butter flavor?????? Just don't understand it. Besides the lack of flavor, my wife's filet was just OK she said. My porterhouse steak was probably one of the worst I've ever had. The filet side was pretty tender besides the absence of flavor. The strip side was a completely different story. First bite I chewed for about 20 minutes. The second bite I spit out. Absolutely inedible. Cooked perfectly but just felt like I was chewing on a Timberland boot from Walmart. The baked potato was very bland, even with the sides. Brussels sprouts were fantastic and so were the mushrooms. This is the second time we've eaten at blue. First time we got the short rib and it was fantastic. I may return to blue again for another shot but I will never ever order a steak again. For a $200 dollar meal we couldn't have been more disappointed. We did have two managers come by asking how the food was, but I've worked in a restaurant kitchen before and I will never ever send my food back. I also don't want any discounts on my check. I went here with some friends the other day for brunch on Sunday. It's General appearances really nice as a place you would want to bring your family. My friend and I ordered Burgers medium and his wife ordered a waffle of some kind. Our Burgers came out rare what edible so we didn't bother sending them back. I glanced at the bill and it wasn't exactly cheap. My overall take is if you're going to charge full rate for your food, you need to step up your quality control! It was my first time there, but they had been there many times and said that the quality of service and food has slipped. Food for thought. read more

Blue is easily the standout among the Paxos restaurants in Allentown. The steaks are consistently cooked to perfection, the menu has real depth, and the pricing is surprisingly fair for a steakhouse of this caliber. Our family walked into the restaurant for Sunday brunch at 10:30. As was suggested, we had a reservation for the early brunch. Everything from eggs and sausage to stuffed French toast was good. We had a dinner reservation for four at the Blue Grillhouse on February 24 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The drinks were outstanding and our wait staff person (Michelle) was EXCELLENT :-). Along with another guest, we ordered lobster tails stuffed with crab meat and a wonderful 6-ounce filet. The other two members of our party also ordered the same dish but w/o the crabmeat. Although the stuffed lobster tail was very good, it was very difficult to extract the lobster meat from the shell due to the way it was prepared. With a great deal of difficulty, I had to use a fork and a knife to PRY the lobster meat out of the shell -- very disappointing. Alternatively, other members of our party also ordered the same dish w/o the crabmeat -- their lobster was prepared and served with the tail out of the shell which made for a much more enjoyable dining experience. I'm embarrassed that I grew up in the Lehigh Valley and it took until well after I'd moved out of the area to visit Blue. I attended a group brunch here and was blown away by the quality of the food and the service. I'm still thinking about the Cajun Braised Chicken Breast Étouffée months later. Blu lost my dinner reservation so I agreed to go to their buffet on Thanksgiving. The food was fine, dessert table was a mess. Pies were cut your own instead of plating the cut pies. Absolutely terrible, the pie cutters were covered with pie, about 1" thick. Sticky mess. Loud loud blaring music, and to boot, a 20% gratuity was added on automatically and we were a table of 2. I'm just passing thru town and I'm looking to have a nice meal. The front desk at my hotel recommended Texas Roadhouse?? I made a reservation for Blue Grillhouse based on Yelp recommendations. Blue Grillhouse is a large space. There is an outdoor patio where it seems guests are enjoying libations. I'd like to dine inside where it's cooler so I'm shown to a small table. I ordered an Old Fashioned and then the bread basket comes to the table. That's a damn good bread basket! For my main meal I ordered a sexy 14oz Ribeye and a side of broccolini. Since I'm one person, the side of broccolini was a very large portion. The Ribeye was cooked very well, it was a little on the thin side and some parts were fatty. They're commanding a premium price for this Blank Angus steak so I didn't expect the Ribeye to have these issues. The shine is wearing off of this restaurant/bar that has been a go to for years. This past weekend I ordered my go to meal of a chopped salad and a piece of grilled salmon. The piece of salmon was half the size it used to be and the salad was a huge pile of lettuce. Only lettuce. With a couple of grape tomatoes tossed on the plate. The side and at least a nicely cooked egg. Then it was topped with those canned crispy onions. What?? They overpowered the flavor. The salmon was cooked nicely if a bit over salted. Our server told us about the specials so fast we could barely catch what he was saying. Didn't bother to ask him to repeat. When he was taking out order he stood slumped against the wall. Also didn't bother to mention his pen was not working when the first person gave her order so she had to repeat it. She ordered a salad to be brought first and was the only one. She had barely started it when a young girl came over and asked her if she wanted a box for her salad. Poor thing was very confused. The two gentlemen in our party confirmed the burgers they ordered were as good as usual and the fries were as well. The lady said the tuna tartare was excellent as well. Dessert of a nice size piece of chocolate mousse cake with ice cream was more than enough to share and was delicious. The ambiance hasn't changed. It is still a lovely atmosphere. It was very crowded so of course it was a bit loud but that seems to be the way dining is anymore. I give it three stars for my experience only. read more

The chops were cooked perfectly and were delicious although not very fond of the mashed potatoes. Overly spiced and needed to be hotter. My wife's steak was also cooked perfectly and tasted great. Wonderful decor and ambiance. Great upscale outdoor seating area for nice weather. We enjoyed sitting near a trickling waterfall or fountain. Servers are excellent but the kitchen takes their time. Great place for a leisurely meal. Grilled salmon sandwich was ok. Next time I'll try something different. Lately,I've been finding cooked salmon too fatty for my taste, in all restaurants. The side salad I chose as a side with my sandwich was excellent. Generous amount of pine nuts. I did not care for the strawberry dressing I requested on the side. Nor did I care for the horseradish cream sauce I requested on the side and put on my sandwich; it tasted like plain yogurt with almost no horseradish; I had been hoping for that radish kick. The salmon sandwich might be better with the aioli it's supposed to be served with, but I tend to dislike aioli, so I skipped that condiment. My favorite dish was the almond cake served with what seemed like homemade blueberry sauce made with fresh blueberries. Neither the cake nor the blueberry sauce was very sweet; seemed healthy. I was very surprised but pleased that the food in this restaurant, in general, was blander than I expected. Kitchen is not heavy on salt, herbs, spices or sugar. I joked with my husband that the chef must have worked in a nursing home. You can't always get what you want, you get what you need. I tend to be better off with bland food. I ordered the chopped salad with the salmon. Every time I come here the salmon gets smaller and smaller. The salmon was a half inch thick and maybe 2 in by 2 in. We came to blue for a birthday celebratory meal on a Friday at 6. Making reservations online was simply and easy through open table. We arrived and were promptly seated. Friday was a good time it seemed less crowded. Our server Tammy was attentive and friendly and delivered top notch service! We ordered short rib tacos, bacon wrapped scallops, Caesar and chopped salad, blue burger, and the sea bass. I like the scallops and Caesar saiad the best for apps and the Sea bass so AMAZING with an Asian twist - SO good. Everything was hot and delicious. We went for a nice dinner and the vibes were very pleasant and quiet! I really enjoyed the dark ambience of the restaurant and how they maintain the place. Service was very friendly and attentive, which added to the positive review for us. Their appetizer portions are surprisingly BIG, so I definitely think the value is worth it there. We tried the featured swordfish entree - it was def a very meaty fish- flavours on the glass noodle was very sweet, I personally would prefer it a bit more savoury but was not bad! Recently went here for a friend's birthday & was impressed. Our server was very attentive and accommodating. The bread was tasty, especially the whipped butter - which was a nice touch. The calamari was average. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the duck breast. I ordered it medium rare (as advised by our server) and it was very delicious. To top it off, my friend got a HUGE slice of the blue's hula ice cream cake & it was absolutely delicious! Not to mention that all 12 of us were able to taste it! Took a last minute jaunt to Bethlehem, PA to visit the area. We drove past Blue Grillhouse and decided to look into it. SO GLAD WE DID!!! What an amazing find. Unique dishes and amazing portion sizes. It's pricey, but worth it due to the portions. We had an entree named DUCK 2 WAYS, with Caesar salad and the most amazing soup I've ever tasted. They make the absolute best homemade SHRIMP & BUTTERNUT SQUASH BISQUE. I'd put it up against any other restaurant. Quiet cozy atmosphere and amazing wait service. My wife and kids took me to Blue Grillhouse last evening to celebrate a milestone birthday, and it just couldn't be more perfect. We were very quickly seated in a comfortable area of the restaurant. Familiar tunes were lightly playing, never too loud or distracting. The layout is ideal in that there is plenty of space between seated parties. Our server, Tammy, came out to introduce herself and take our drink orders. Everything came out quickly and correctly. For starters, my wife ordered the lobster bisque an raved about it. I tried a bit myself, and found it thick and creamy, with plenty of lobster pieces within. It was a hit. We also got crab dip with pita bread and bacon-wrapped scallops, equally was amazing. I chose the ribeye with lump crab on the side for my entre, and my family was divided through NY Strip, Chicken, and Filet dinners. Each piece was cooked to requested temperature, served in appropriate timeline, and just wonderfully presented. For sides, we ordered french fries, mashed potatoes grilled mushrooms that were to die for, and asparagus. Everything was just over-the-top good. My family surprised me with a candle-topped Hula pie (two of them for the table, actually), and that was the best tasting dessert in recent memory. A must have to finish out your meal. I cannot recommend Blue enough to the steak lovers out there, and we will be back!! read more

I continue to come back often because certain items are great, but as I continue to explore there are too many items that are just ok. For this price you would want everything to be a hit. I tried their Sea Bass Soup - it was really mediocre, too much of just tomato soup with small chunks of fish My NY steak was tasty but incorrectly cooked. Ordered a medium rare and got a medium to medium/well looking steak. I stand by ordering the lobster bisque & bbq chicken flatbread for appetizers, steak options for your entree, and mashed potatoes for your sides (lobster mashed is not worth it - taste isn't much different and you're almost paying double). read more

We know the chef and many of the managers Today's breakfast was the worst ever The waitress had no clue what she was doing The manager tried his best to accommodate us but also to no avail When he saw the numerous problems with the order that was brought out totally incorrect and since we are good customers he should have said breakfast is on us for several problems But he said next time you come back we will do better. No need to discuss the breakfast problems but a fine restaurant like Blue it is unacceptable to have such ridiculous problems just for a breakfast of eggs. The waitress messed up but the manager didn't handle the situation correctly not for frequent customers like my girlfriend and I. But. Yes we will be back. This doesn't usually ever happen. We arrived asked for a table for two @3pm and hostess walked around like she looking for a table like there were none available, I presume it was a manager who stated to "just put them in a booth". We ordered off a very limited menu. Appetizers: Bacon wrapped scallops and a fried eggplant flatbread. Although good scallops could've been cooked a little more and bacon was very well done. Flat bread was amazing. We ordered a Lobster Roll and French dip. Couldn't taste the lobster at all it was lobster salad with ingredients overwhelming the lobster. French dip was very good. Everything is à la carte so I chose the upgraded Lobster Bisque that my husband swore tasted more like cheese than bisque. Our server Justin was polite courteous and timely. The béarnaise was good but a bit too much lemon. The bacon wrapped scallops with some sweet sauce, were less than anticipated. The scallops were overpowered by the sauce. The mac and cheese had quite a bit of crab meat, but the crab was totally lost in the dish. The bread prior to dinner was fresh and warm. Altogether a less than the fine dinning and price experience. Here for a business meeting and was not disappointed. We started with the Ahi Tuna, the Crab Dip, and the Boneless Chicken Wings. All was fantastic and right-sized for sharing. The Manhattans were spot on (with a Luxardo cherry added). The filets were tender and flavorful. The sea bass was well liked but the real winner was the Rack of Lamb. It was so good that we ordered a second plate to share for dessert! We ate in the dark wooded dining room which was appropriate for our meeting, but I sensed a lively vibe coming from the patio crowd and more of a locals-only feel in the bar. Not uninviting but they all seemed to be regulars. Maria was our server and she was very engaging and knowledgeable about the menu, the sister restaurants and the wine list.
