There's a lot I can say about the food, the service, the Bloody Mary's, the weird specialty cocktails my family tends to think up on a whim that the bartenders concoct without fail, the cozy galley-inspired decor and a tremendous direct-mail marketing program. But what makes this place stand apart is the staff. When I tell you the bartenders and servers here have seen me at my best, and far below my worst - the latter seemed to be more frequent there for a while. And through all of life's ups and downs, it remained a constant, a beacon of light(house) in an otherwise dark time. The employees and even other regulars have truly become extended family - I've seen the staff and patrons rally to support a number of fundraising efforts for their own community. Ryan, Kari, Takia, Devon, John to name a few - the people that text to make sure your day got better, that tell you that you're in their prayers for whatever reason, or to let you know that your favorite special is on the daily blackboard rotation! To put it in next-level perspective, I brought my dog's ashes into the bar after picking them up so I could enjoy one last Bloody Mary with my pup -who always loved to crunch on the "celery bones" I would bring home. There are few other guarantees in life besides death, taxes, and at least one member of my family holding court at the Marblehead bar on a Sunday. My parents don't even eat seafood, that's how much they love it here - luckily the menu is abundant with alternative options - they both swear by the prime rib! This review is far overdue considering how long we've made this a mainstay with our family, friends, neighbors and colleagues - but I'm astounded by seeing something so horrifically negative, and borderline libelous, posted here - by someone whose entire review portfolio is fellow one-star ratings. This spot had been on my radar for quite some time, so I was happy to finally make it in. The experience was enjoyable, though it didn't quite meet the expectations I had going in. I started with clams casino, fried calamari, and baked French onion soup. The clams casino was satisfying, but the calamari was undercooked. The baked French onion soup was perfectly hot, rich, and cheesy, definitely the standout of the three. For my entree I ordered the pan seared shrimp and scallops with lobster risotto. The dish was slightly greasy, but it remained well-balanced and indulgently flavorful overall. Service was definitely on the slower side. That said, I'm never in a rush dining out, so it wasn't a big deal for me. read more

First visit & absolutely LOVED! First visit because there will definitely be more. It looks like a smaller building in the outside, but feels huge inside & it's beautifully accented with its maritime theme. Anthony was our server and he did a fantastic job. He was very helpful and courteous. It was hard to choose a meal because I'm on a ketosis diet and need to focus on protein and veggies. This was hard in a very good way! In my three months of fearing a menu dining out ... I had actual choices. I selected the Crab Norfolk and fell in love. My husband had the Shrimp and Teriyaki rice dish and enjoyed his lobster pierogies as his side. My friends enjoyed their meals also. They loved the appetizer sampler, another had the same Crab Norfork that I selected and her husband chose a salmon and rice dish. They had been here before and I'm pleased they suggested it for great options. We shall return! Also, so convenient to book a reservation in the Open Table app. When we first arrived, they have a table just inside dedicated to take out pick up and the staff member is dedicated to collecting the order information. I figured it was worth updating my previous review since it has been a while, and I opted to get the same entrée, but I have yet to review the starters. I had the French onion soup, which was literally picturesque, and it tasted as good as it looked. The side salad that came with my entrée was great as always because of their homemade blue cheese dressing, and I believe most of their dressings are homemade. Then I decided to get the Maine lobster pie again. It was a bit different than years ago in that it had a lot more potatoes and less sauce, but it was still really good (I prefer more sauce and less potatoes, but to each his own). Marblehead is a staple in the valley for seafood. We went recently on a Wednesday night without a reservation. Not very kind about it at the host stand but they sat us. We used to eat here once a month and moved farther away so hadn't been in a couple of years. I don't know if they hired a new chef or what but wow! Back to Marblehead for a great dining experience. Made reservations for a table in the bar area which is more vibrant then the dining room (our opinion). We order some drinks which were well crafted by the bar staff. Love them! Then, I ordered the Broiled Scallops and my wife the Lobster Pie. Both entrees came with salads which were very fresh and nice sized. The entrees came out piping hot and were both delicious. I think they serve some of the best scallops in the valley. On 3/4/26 my husband and I went to the Marblehead Chowder House for dinner. First let me say that the waitress could not have been better. In addition the front desk person walked my handicapped husband outside while I got the car. These people deserve medals for working in what I call a sub-par restaurant. We have lived in PA for 23 years and the first couple of years the Marblehead was our go to place. As more places started to open we stopped going. The restaurant changed hands a while ago. We ate at the Marblehead about 5 years ago and were disappointed; the food was average and the menu had not changed. We decided to give it another try. When we entered the restaurant there was a musty odor that they attempted to cover with an artificial scent. We were seated in the main dining room where the carpet stank to high heaven. I ordered a side salad which was ice cold. It had been pre-made and refrigerated. When I got to the bottom of the salad there was water on both the lettuce and the plate. Inedible. The only plus was the very good blue cheese dressing. For my main course I first inquired if they had tartar sauce. Oh yes I was told. I then ordered the fried shrimp basket. I asked the server for extra pickles because I know from experience that there are never enough pickles in tartar sauce for me. Key word being pickles. Out came extra tartar sauce as requested but it, in no way resembled tartar sauce as the flavor was way way too sweet. I was also given a small dish of what should have been cut-up dill pickles but turned out to be sweet relish. I gave up and sent everything back. I did not have dinner and left the restaurant after ensuring our lovely waitress was tipped on the full amount of the bill not the net amount after my dinner was removed. In addition when I asked to speak to the manager I was told that he was too busy. Huh ? Too busy to speak to a customer who is going to give your restaurant a very NOT NICE review. read more

Funny enough, my family lives in Marblehead, MA (the restaurant's namesake) and can walk to The Barnacle, which inspired the Marblehead Chowder House. My mom and I agree that they've done an excellent job recreating authentic New England seafood restaurant vibes. We're hard to impress being from New England, but we felt right at home. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the lobster bisque was genuinely the best I've ever had. My mom said the salmon was the best she's ever had. They started us with warm rolls with butter, which is always appreciated. For dessert, the server brought over an adorable box of candy where you could choose candy and select dessert written on a note meant to look like hidden treasure. Was looking for some seafood after leaving Windcreek casino and this place had good reviews so we figured we'd check it out. We started off with some calamari which was nice and crispy w/ some marinara sauce and for our main courses I was in the mood for some lobster so I went with the 6oz Maine lobster tail that came with a baked potato and a vegetable medley. The lobster was sweet and tender served with some drawn butter and lemon. The vegetables were fresh and not overcooked, and the potato came w/ butter and sour cream. I was happy with this dish.
