Amazing rice and seafood dish similar to paella.
    Chris M.

Great food and service in a cute restaurant. I would definitely like to go again. We had empanadas to start with cheese and bananas. Loved them, with a nice flakey crust. I had a passion fruit juice with milk which was lovely and I was happy to see it on the menu. Our entrees were the rice with sea food, a dish similar to paella which I could really taste the flavors pop and had a great assortment of seafood. The camarones al ajillo was a very tasty shrimp dish with plantains, rice and a great creamy garlic sauce. The shrimp were cooked the right amount and the garlic sauce didn't over power the seafood. We also took some tres leches cake to go. We enjoyed our meal and would love to dine there again.

    Camarones; yum.

Amazing food and friendly service. Plus they always have good Latin music playing. Hard to pick a favorite dish.

I first found Giacomo's when I moved from Jersey to the Lehigh Valley more than 20 years ago. Long…read morebefore the sons of the original owner opened the Market and Grill in College Hill. Raised in Brooklyn, NY for 20 years, my expectations were low. The old man closed his store and retired and I discovered the tradition moved forward in the new College Hill store. The original Giacomo's was not a grill, but the old man (whose name escapes me), knew how to make sausage. Imported cheeses and olives with bread brought in from NYC made this a no brainer for folks like me. The old man couldn't retire and he came in just to make the sausage - of which the thin (pictured) parsley and cheese sells out the same day quite often. My favorite - though the other varieties are top notch too. I heard he still makes the sausage today but I can't confirm or deny that. Having moved to Naples, FL and then Myrtle Beach, SC - I had long forgotton Giacomo"s. Now back in PA (Allentown), I recently wanted good ravioli. The company that make the best ravioli in the world is Pastosa's. I went to their website and saw they opend a bunch of stores in both NY and NJ. I had just about talked myself into an hour or more ride when I found they also sold at select retailers. Wouldn't you know Giacomo's is one of them. My car drove itsel to Giacomo's and I got a box of the large ravioli, a bag of home made meatballs, and a qusrt of homeade tomato sauce. OMG - Pastosa still make the best ravioli in the world. And Giacomo's seel the full line including a bunch of ravioli varities, stuffed shells, manicoti and more.Of course I picked up some Italian specialties along the way while there. HEAVEN! Don't go hungry and bring plenty of money - because it's easy to drop a hundred dollars there and you'll have ZERO buyers remorse. Check out their website ba cause this review just scratches the surface of all the authentic Italian delicacies they have. Don't forget Junior's Cheescake - Simply The Best! The ambience was nice, clean and a good date night restaurant. They had roses available for sale for valentine's day. The food looked and smelled amazing. I had an asperol spritzer, bisteka and tiramisu. My boyfriend had the Bud bolognese. He said it was pretty good but it was heavy with onions. My plate had a NY strip steak cooked perfectly med rare , broccoli rabe and fingerling potatoes. The steak had great flavor as for the sides they were ok. They didnt have as much flavor as I had expected. The tiramisu was rich and creamy and the brandy kept me warm on my walk back to the car. I have to say one of the best tiramisu I've ever had. The asperol spritz; this was my first time having one ever, so I have nothing to compare, it was ok. It is supposed to be citrus, rhubarb and prosecco, I expected it to have a sweetness but it had an overpowering bitterness kinda like eating orange rind. Id definitely go back for the tiramisu and a few other things I'd like to try on the menu.

This Resteraunt is in a historic building and you can feel the history as you come in. Unfortunately that's where the good points end. Apart from our waitress who was very nice and cordial the rest of the staff had an arrogance about them and the bartender must not receive a lot of tips as she's cold and unresponsive. The food was mediocre at best the fig pizza was good, the baked artichoke smothered in breadcrumbs and over done. The pasta it self was good but the sauce lackluster and tasteless. The chicken melonazze was dry and rubbery. The chairs at the table were a mish mosh of wood and metal and the Caine chairs were ripping guess that's the colonial vibe.

Giovanni's Pizza & restaurant is next door is owned by the husband of Mercatino's. Both places serve really good food! My bad experience there today was due to how LONG it takes to order, pay for, and get your food. WAY to long. Plus, everything is overpriced. They make you order from one of two kiosks. Kiosk ask some odd questions that force you to go to the counter to ask things like, what is pressed hot? By the time the lady had time to answer my question, my order was timed out and I had to start all over. Then my chicken cutlet ssandwich comes with broccoli rabe, but the kiosk suggested I add it and pay more for it. WHAT? The friendly lady came out from behind the counter to help me with the order. Then she asked for my email address and phone numberto complete the order. WHAT? She claimed I HAD TO input my phone number and email address to complete my order - WHAT??I We argued a minute and I said I just want to buy my sandwich which doesn't require giving out my email and phone numbeI. I finally completed my orderand asked at the counter what's next. The lady behind the counter says here's your reciept, you have to go up front to the cashier pay for it 1st. I said what the heck and she explained someone walked out, not paying so this is their procedure now. So, okay, I walked to the fron register, presented my nvoice and paid. So, again I ask what's next. The cashier hands me a paid for sticker and said go back to the counter in the rear to get your food. Okay, so I walked back to the rear counter to discover they hadn't started to assemble my sandwich yet. So, I milled aroiund with other confused looking customers waiting for their food. 20 minutes later I got my food and FINALLY left. The food is good but very expensive, the staff is friendly, but I'll never go thru that again. Their bakery is exceptional but they get it from La Dolce Vita Italian bakery in Wescoville, it's a great Italian bakery in Wescoville. Their bread comes from NY and itself is worth the trip there. The frozen section is exceptional as well. Just don't order a sandwich unless you have the day off or like me, are retired!
