Yum Yum YUM! Starting with the terrific sliced up little slices of focaccia, I knew this was going to be a hit. The prosciutto and burrata was just perfect because the prosciutto was lean, beautifully sliced and nicely salty. Some of the best stuff I have had in a looong time. The arancini was a pillowy and gooey-ish morsel of love: so good with our prosecco. I had the pappardelle bolognese and it was pretty good, but just a wee bit under seasoned. A bit of salt and parmesan took care of that easily. I could those freshly made noodles every day with just a little butter and salt. The profiteroles disappeared in a blink of the eye, sooo good: light, sweet, not too big. The lava cake was fine, but gimme more profiteroles. Note: the tables are roomy enough but the backs of chairs are very close; prepare yourself for some squeezing to get away from the table. read more

I visited this lovely restaurant with a friend in September. We had the toasted complimentary bread as an appetizer that was just okay and a personal pizza pie each. I had the Funghi pizza pie it was yummy and even had some left over for later when I got home. I would give this place a higher rating. However, I just cannot justify in this time of a global pandemic with a new variant in play (OMICRON), giving a higher rating when servers wore no masks. Note: they did ask for vaccination proof. Spacious, very clean and could easily be rated higher. Perfect for Communion or Confirmation parties for Catholics but the mask thing was a huge turn off. A few things could make this place so much better. First, the loud music is not necessary for a restaurant where dinner is more than $50/person. It's not a cheap pizza place; cocktails and wine are the same as other restaurants ($14/$12). Second, presentation is sub-par. A little chopped parsley on the pasta? So I frequented this place for the first time yesterday with a friend. It's very cute and has a cozy feel. However there were a few things that completely took my rating down. First, the original host/ server we had was not the nicest. I mean, he was pleasant, but certainly not someone who would make you enthusiastic about returning to the place. He took our orders and never bothered to check in on us, although he was actively checking on all the other tables around us. Matter of fact, after gleefully catering to another table behind us, and making us wait, he finally came over to ask if "any one took our order." It wasn't until a woman server saw us and approached us with such a lovely demeanor, that she changed at least my perspective on the place. She was so nice, and even suggested one of their signature desserts (Tiramisu) to try. Sadly, this actually brings me to the food. I ordered the pasta bolognese and my friend ordered the ravioli ai porcini in salsa Al tartufo. The menu made them seem so delectable. When my meal arrived, it was lukewarm, and surprisingly tasteless considering their ingredients. I usually love a pasta bolognese, but this was one of the few times I discovered one that was just so lackluster, and my friend said they ruined her truffle experience. Then when it was time for us to leave, the waiters suddenly came swooping in like vultures. I had never seen so many people on top of us the entire time we were there. Like, they could have at least given us a second to stand. Not even a minute after we got up, they were rushing over to collect plates. I felt so stressed. Frankly, if you are not looking for lackluster food, and limited/rushed service, don't go here. read more

My family and I have eaten here together and separately several times. We are never disappointed from the focaccia bread to appetizers to drink, entrees and dessert. Everything from the moment you arrive is delicious and appetizing. Calamari with chili sauce is delicious, rice balls are delectable and creamy. The wine selection is one of the best as well as the mixed drinks. For entrees try the Don Savelli - Spaghetti Marechiara, or the Grilled Salmon for fish. ANY pizza is delicious and flys off the board. The Orecchiette con Broccoli Rabe & Salsiccia is made just right and also a great pick as well. I've seen other eat the steak, beef short ribs and other food. All looked and smelled wonderful. The wait staff was hospitable, kind, friendly. Nino, our waiter was funny and entertaining. Daniel, who is the manager is also very nice and accommodating. Dessert!!!! If you can't choose, have it all!!!! Cheescake is creamy and delicious, Tiramisu is done just right, chocolate creme puffs yummy!!! Did you say Nutella pizza???? hmmmmmmmmmmmm...... Cappucino made just right. Classic but not stuffy. Our waiter was a boss; the group of friends I came with is notoriously indecisive but he tracked our changing order perfectly and patiently. For 6 people we ordered two pizzas, three pastas, and the polpo to share which was about the right amount of food although I could have done three polpos on my own. Warning that the Master pizza has an unexpectedly strong cheese that is blue-cheese-like. The spaghetti marechiara was my favorite of the pastas. read more

Sadly, I came here for a birthday dinner and was not treated well. My husband requested a nice table in advance on his reservation letting them know it was a special dinner. When we arrived the host seemed frazzled, asked another worker about the "big" reservation, then brought us to the back (which is a beautiful indoor garden) to show us many empty tables and then said we can't sit there because they're reserved. He then waved his arms toward several tables and said we could sit near the waiters station. We were so disappointed with this treatment that we got up and walked out. Waited 15 minutes for a glass of wine and 30 for my entree-order to be taken. I wasn't expecting Michelin, but thought the service and attention would be commensurate with the price and presentation. We had our civil wedding ceremony and reception at Savelli last week. From the food, event space and service... everything was perfect! We booked our event back in October 2021. Throughout our wedding preparation, Daniel, the restaurant manager, accommodated us in every aspect we needed for our special day. Thank you to the staff of Savelli who were so attentive and provided excellent service. The setting and ambiance were praised by all our guests. Most importantly, we and our guests greatly enjoyed the freshly cooked food and the portions size were so generous. We also had dinner multiple times in the past and they never disappointed us. Let's start with the good-- the staff was very friendly, even when busy the service was running up to speed, and the ambience is great; a mix of cozy without feeling suffocated. The holiday decorations, most notably the wine bottle tree, were beautiful. The pizza was being made where everyone could see for an added fun experience. The tiramisu was beyond delicious (highly recommend.) Now let's get to the not-so-great: the meals. Unfortunately it just missed the mark. If I'm going to be paying $28 for lemon chicken, it better be some damn good lemon chicken. But instead what I got was three of the thinnest slices of chicken (I'd be surprised to even say it was 4oz) of extremely dry chicken. I'm not sure how they could have over done it, but it felt like chewing through rubber. These were placed upon some of the soggiest sautéed spinach I've ever had; waaaayyyy too much oil and salt on it all. My partner got the pesto orecchiette and unfortunately parts were undercooked and hard, leaving us both incredibly dissatisfied. We didn't even order drinks and the subpar meal (after a hefty tip) was over $90. When there are plenty of other Italian places around, a place like this needs to step up the game. Maybe it was just an unfortunate out of the norm meal but we definitely won't be returning. read more

I wish I could give this place a higher rating, really. But, first and most important, they did not check our vaccine cards at the entrance. I have already reported them through 311. Second, they play loud disco-type music, which is entirely unnecessary and really gets in the way of the experience. That said, the food is (mostly) very good, the service was excellent, and the ambience (apart from the loud music) very pleasurable. In terms of appetizers, try the polpo all griglia (misspelled on my check as "grilla"), but stay away from the arancini, they are nothing to brag about (a missed opportunity!). For a main, the tagliolini with seafood was almost as good as the one I cook at home, and the fennel salad was excellent (though it lacked black olives). Get the latter with the addition of grilled salmon (off menu, ask your server) instead of the shrimp. read more

Savelli was just OK. I came with friends on a Friday night because I saw they had 4.5 stars and thought it had to be amazing, even though I saw some comments about the sports bar vibe. It's a very casual spot, and I prefer something with more ambiance for a Friday night. The TVs were a little off putting -- unless you want to watch basketball while having dinner. Espresso martini was great, pizza was alright, we split some meatballs for the table that were tasty (but really cold ricotta on top of them was sort of weird on something that should be a warm dish... kind of made the overall meatball taste cold). Absolutely excellent! I live in the area and am always looking for a good Italian spot and Savelli did not disappoint. My partner and I shared the octopus to start which was cooked perfectly and had beautiful presentation. We both enjoyed our pastas but as soon as we saw the pizzas getting delivered to another table we knew we messed up so we have to come back next week! The service was great and the staff was warm and welcoming. We received dessert on the house which made the dinner even better. I chose this Beautiful restaurant for my birthday dinner and six of us were so hungry to try it. Sorry to say, food is nothing special. In fact for a Smith St restaurant it is amateurish. I'm hoping things get better there. Perhaps the chef was on vacation? The pizza, which should be a "no brained" for any Italian restaurant was bland as was a pasta dish and the salmon. The wine list is also not very interesting. I don't understand what the rave reviews are about. There are other Italian restaurants in the area that I will continue to patronize. read more
