I bought a "discounted" strawberry cake and took a bite and immediately noticed it tasted strange and foul. The whole bottom of the cake was filled with MOLD. I immediately called Savannah to complain and she asked if I wanted a refund that's all no apology or anything. So I drove all the way back with the cake to get a refund and first thing the Manager or cashier whoever she was asks is Do You Have Your Receipt? REALLY??? Went to have an afternoon cup of coffee looking forward to a selection of fresh baked goods to eat in the cafe. Had been recommended their cookies and cakes to order and was looking forward to seeing for myself. The cafe looked pretty large for seating area, open and bright when we walked in. There were no other customers eating, and the selection in the bakery case was pretty limited at that time of day. The coffee station was self service and not surprising for an empty cafe in the afternoon the coffee was not fresh. Staff were friendly enough. Cookies we chose were fresh and delicious. May be a good place for lunch or custom bake orders, but would not recommend afternoon tea or coffee plans at Savannah Bakery and Cafe. read more

I called and ordered graduation cookies a week before the pick up date. I arrived and the lettering had faded into the other colors. I asked about this and the guy said it had been happening lately. I was not happy as the party was the next day. I asked for a mgr to call me. I spoke to Kim and she said it was because I was a day late in picking up my order. But what she didn't know is that I had two orders to pick up. The other one was perfect. $158 of ugly cookies. They tasted good but looked awful and that was the only dessert my daughter wanted. I have bought cookies from here before and they were delicious. However, I ordered a lemon cake for $34 and it tasted awful. A box cake would have tasted a lot better. It was dense and white flour tasting. You could not tell it was lemon except that it was yellow. Very very disappointed! My husband and I stopped mid afternoon for a piece of pie and coffee. The coffee from the thermos was cold so they said they were making a fresh pot. My praline apple pie was very cold. And the crust tasted like it had been in the fridge for a few days. My husband's chocolate pie also tasted like it had picked up flavor from a fridge. I felt obligated to leave something with the cashier staring st me. Then they were out of forks, my spoon had dried food on it and they got my order wrong. It was a tasty lunch though. Very disappointed. I really like the white chocolate pecan praline cake. Went to both this location and the Pasadena location. Both had whole cakes for sale, but did not offer this type as a by-the-slice offering. This location in particular was only offering a single kind of cake by the slice, would not add the kind I asked for. Very unlikely to return with this lack of customer service. I have been going here for several years '& have always enjoyed it. Most recently though, I have noticed the restaurant has become disorganized & untidy. Example: dirty silverware, no tea (sweet or regular) in dispensers, tables not being bussed, view of kitchen area while ordering from counter-extremely dirty. Also noted that sandwiches have not be consistent with meat portions as before. I don't know if management has changed but I hope that things will improve. Went to this cafe for a light dinner. Atmosphere is nice, the menu is small and easy to navigate. The baked goods were absolutely heavenly! My only gripe was the quality of the meat served with the Harvest Salad. I got dried cranberries and sweet pecans on a bed of beautiful greens, but the meat was most definitely CANNED MEAT and it smelled and tasted horrible! The meat was still partially swimming in the liquid I assume it was canned in, which was the dead giveaway, they didn't even bother to strain it. The salad was totally ruined by the poor quality of meat! From what I've heard from others that have dined here, the Chicken Pot Pie is less than stellar as well due to poor quality in the meats used. They also were under the impression that canned meats were used in the making. I gave it three stars because it's a shame to ruin fresh ingredients like that. It's not even a question of mistakingly serving something bad, but rather cutting corners and charging me $8.95 for canned meat on a salad. If you order anything sans meat, you'll be very pleased. I relocated to Houston from Albuquerque and have been looking for a replacement for my favorite quirky cafe (Flying Star)... Magnolia lacks the quirkiness but has a clean, comfy atmosphere, free WI-fi and self-serve (unlimited refills!) coffee. Not a bad hangout spot, though for you laptop people I am not sure I spotted an outlet. I had the quiche and a cookie. The coffee is fresh and has a nice flavor, not overly strong or bitter like that place that begins with "star" and rhymes with "tar bucks." I go to Savannah's Bakery a few times a week to get cookies for marketing. Everyone loves their desserts and it's always jammed packed when I go. I know some people have compared it to La Madeline but it has the local feel. Everyone knows the staff and it's a more traditional cafe. Went to have a light lunch. Food was good. I had a tuna on marbled rye with a side of red potato salad. The red potato salad was delicious! The bread was very fresh! It is bigger than It looks from the outside. They have an area that can be reserved for parties. Nice atmosphere and not overly done.
