I have been a loyal customer for the last few years bc their prices are really good. Although you never know what you'll find, it's kind of like a treasure hunt. On my last trip, I was blown away by the compete lack of help and customer service, and I'll be going to the other fabric stores whenever possible. I made the trip to look for a specific type of fur, and amazingly, I saw what I needed Unfortunately, the fur aisle was blocked off bc of a new shipment, and there were a couple boxes stacked at the other end of the aisle. I tried to be respectful and asked for help (instead of barging past the partition and walking 6 feet). I was told that I wasn't allowed to pass the retractable station for safety reasons... But that no one would help me get the fabric. Instead, I was asked, "How soon do you need it?" and was told I'd need to come back as early as the next day - but it may take longer. Come on... The way this store works is that you don't know what you'll find, so you need to grab something as you see it. The lady who checked me out asked if I got everything I needed, and I explained the situation and how I wasn't happy. She was absolutely no help either, so I asked her to tell her manager that this is how they lose customers. I lost a LOT of respect for them bc the way they treat longtime customers, and I will be going to other fabric stores (including other locations of SAS) whenever possible. read more

Nasty little woman cashier who offers no assistance but loudly aggressive. "I've worked her since 1993." Maybe its time for a change. There is absolutely no reason to mistreat customers, especially at the top of one's lungs. read more

Super cheap buttons, thread, and fabrics of all kinds! The place is definitely unorganized, but finding the perfect piece of fabric after searching through heaps and heaps is very rewarding. If you are looking for something specific, come with a friend to help you sift through everything. The ladies who worked there seemed a little standoffish, but once I started talking to them they warmed up and were very helpful. Tip- if there isn't at least 2 yards of a fabric left after the portion you want, you'll either have to buy the whole thing or adjust how much of it you buy. read more

I don't really purchase a lot of fabric, but I do like coming to this store for any other fabric items like trims, ribbons, scrap pieces, etc; they have great prices on these kinds of materials. It's enjoyable to browse through their selection, as they do have a lot of merchandise in stock. I have been coming to this store for about 5 years now, and I do have to say, that the ladies that have worked here, don't have the best customer service skills. Like what other people have said, many of them give off an attitude that you're bothering them when you ask for assistance, as if their job is only to restock and write up your purchases for the cashier. I have experienced this not-so-friendly manner in the many times that I have visited the store. HOWEVER, this issue must have been brought up many tines with the manager or owner, because when I have come in lately, the attitudes of the older ladies seem to have changed (though could still improve, but definitely better) and a couple of newer younger girls that work there are super friendly and welcoming. I will still continue to come into this store for certain materials, and I look forward to any other positive changes in staff friendliness/ helpfulness. read more

Customer service here was horrible!! I asked if I can have the underneath fabrics from an item I was buying a piece of white fabric and it was brown it looked like someone walked all over it!!! Lady was so rude about the whole thing that's store policy sorry you could wash it when you get home everything is as is... She was so rude about the whole thing. So many ppl shop here they could be more nicer about this situation... read more

My absolute favorite place to get fabric!! Tons of fabric for clearance prices. Never leave empty handed. Options may be limited compared to other fabric stores but the affordable prices make it worth it. read more

As another reviewer stated, they have a large fabric selection but some of their employees are quite rude. My mother went in on an errand for me to find some 100% wool. One staff member tried to help her but was directed to "get back to the registers!" The staff member who made the direction was then rude and condescending to my mother, and refused to help her. My mother finally found a roll that said 100% wool on the end and bought some (the staff member who did the cutting was very kind). She made it up into the item I needed, but we soon realized (with the help of someone who knows fabrics) that there is no way the material is wool at all. Likely completely polyester, which cannot be used for the costume I am creating. So not only was the customer service poor, but the fabric was mislabeled. I will be going back to see if I can rectify the situation and will update my review with the results. read more

If you like "the hunt" and are okay looking for things mostly on your own, this is the place for you. Messy, PACKED with stuff, made of magic and SAS-sy old ladies. I asked a very old, hunched over woman, "excuse me, do you work here?" Her response, "Sometimes. Sometimes I just walk around for fun." NOT expecting that out of someone who is barely audible and hardly able to walk, much less an employee. But, I thought it was funny, and she answered my question about where the bandanas were just fine. I hope that when I retire, I can spend my days cutting fabric and handing out sass at this place. For now, I will just get lost in the aisles of fabrics and notions, and try not to let my OCD tendencies overwhelm me as visions of craft and sewing projects flash before my eyes. read more

Staff is rude and not helpful. I got in a fight with the cashier about using my debit card over a $5 purchase because my card had my mother's name on it. They don't have capabilities to run a card as debit only credit so that's probably something costumers should know. The store is a mess, which I get because it's a "by the pound' fabrics store but the entire place is just dirty and run down. read more

This is a total gem of a store. I used to go to SAS with my mother when I was a kid. The fabrics aren't all by the pound anymore but still it's a sea of bargains. The folks who work there are nice and super helpful. I just can't say enough about it. read more

I have been going to this SAS for over 10 years. I have never had a person treat me rudely or with disrespect. The prices are amazing, and if you have time to dig, you can save lots of money shopping here. Even notions are a fraction of the price you would pay at a large chain and the fabric is unique as well. read more

what happened? I used to love going to this store to find mill- ends of nice quality quilting cottons- it was a treasure hunt and you could find partial yards of good quality fabric. I was excited to go check it out today - and what a tremendous disappointment for cotton selection. No quality designer mill-ends any longer . Just crap, crunchy cheap cheap cottons- I loved this store - but someone is buying real cheap mill ends now.....so sad to see what has happened to one of my favorite haunts. sad face. read more

SAS WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WAKE UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR RUDE EMPLOYEES!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe when people have finally had enough and stop shopping and you finally go out of business. I had heard over and over about rude employees, but never experienced it until yesterday. I took a bolt of material up to the cashier and asked her the price. She looked it up and said it was 9.95 a yard. This was okay with me so I shopped for about another hour matching trims and material to this fabric. When I took it to the cash register to have it cut, the older (I think she was Indian) woman before she cut it said this fabric is 14.95 a yard looking at a fabric hanging on the wall. I told her, "No, that fabric is out of a different material, this is 9.95." And then I told her to ask the girl that had given me the price. The girl said,"Yes it's only 9.95." She then wrote up my ticket and I watched her put 2 yds at 9.95 on the ticket. I had some other things to buy so I left my material at the cash register and came back later. When the other girl rang up my purchase the price on the ticket was CHANGED TO 12.95!!!!!!!!! I told the older woman that when she had cut the fabric she had agreed that the price was 9.95 and that's what she had written down. She said, "No I didn't say anything like that. The price is 12.95." She stood there and just lied to my face!!!!! Of course the other girl that witnessed everything and had told me the price originally was in the back room and no one would go get her. I felt like throwing everything back on the counter and walking out but I had been in the store for four hours picking everything out. And you can't argue with someone that is just going to bold-faced lie about everything. I should have made them dig through the trash for the original ticket. The next time I ask for prices, I will have them write them down and initial it so I will have evidence. I'm not sure why I'm even writing this review. I'm sure the SAS owners will probably never read this. But customers like me will!!! read more

I would leave 0 stars if I could. I have been in here a few times and every time the saleswomen are so rude. The first time I specifically asked her not to rip the fabric, that I would like to have it cut. She looked at me like I was crazy and told me that's how they do it there. I politely asked her if she had some scissors and she replied "yea", then I said well please cut my fabric. She coped an attitude the entire time and then made a mistake. I asked for a yard and a half of fabric, she proceeded to measure out 1 yard and "rip" it just as I yelled NO. She was like....oops, I forgot. There wasn't any more fabric like that in the store. The next visit, I asked for a certain number of yards of ribbon and when she rang it up, she double charged me on my receipt. I pointed it out to her and she argued with me that I was wrong and she was right. I had to pull out the ribbon and show her and the receipt. She reached across and grabbed the bag from me and quickly yelled for someone to come and help her with a return, then walked away. But I have to say the this last visit was the worst so far....I went in and needed some red vinyl. They had 3 bolts, one didn't have enough on it, the second one had a big flaw that went through the vinyl and the third one was a whole bolt. I carried it up to the counter and asked that the first yard or so be cut off because it was totally wrinkled and unusable. It looked like it had been smashed for quite some time. So the girl cutting it asked "Jackie" who looked at it and said it could steam it. It wouldn't have been possible to steam the vinyl without melting it to get the amount of wrinkles out of it. I told her that no matter how I stretched it, that the wrinkles would still show. She then replied that they were a discount store that that I could take it or leave it. She wouldn't allow the girl to cut off the bad piece. She then turned and said "you people just cram the bolts back up there and that's what causes them to get this way." I told her that I had never touched the vinyl before and she shouldn't refer to me as "you people." She just said nope there isn't anything we are going to do about it. I needed 5 yards by the way, so to get 5 usable yards I would have had to purchase 6.5 yards. There customer service is the worse that I have ever seen. I shop in a lot of fabric stores and I won't waste my time to ever go there again. Please tell your family and friends to do the same. If they are a "family owned business", then the owner of the business really needs to take a look at how their employees get trained on customer service. Really poor...shame on you. read more

I personally have not shopped here as I was barred from the store! I arrived at the store at 5:37 only to find they had just closed at 5:30. I was sad of course. However, I needed fabric to make a toga for a party that night so I was talking to one of the women who works there through the door as it was locked about where the closest fabric store is that's still open. In the middle of that conversation, a woman of about 50 yelled through the door that she's about to call 911 on me! I have no clue what prompted her to say that as I did nothing that may require calling the police. Literally, all I did was talk through the door. I didn't even try to open the door because I read the closed sign first. I had to longboard 6 more miles to the next fabric store, Jo-Ann's, which they lied and told me was on University and Dobson when it's actually in Riverview. Can't attest to their selection or prices, but from what I experienced, they seem to have terribly awful service. Personally, Jo-Ann's is way better. Best of luck and hope your experience is better than mine. read more
