Alwasy smiling too. No matter how crazy it gets. They have someone to consult in every department. Upholstery, garment, textile and personal shoppers to consult your projects. Quality is alwasy important no matter where you go. The bolts are always neat and rolled tight. Satin, Velvet, Brocade and Taffeta is clean and crisp. Perfect for sewing projects. What was supposed to be a fun day of fabric shopping with my mother turned into a very unpleasant experience. The staff at this location were unbelievably rude (two in particular) When I had a simple question about a material, one employee yelled at me, telling me to "read the sign." This was particularly frustrating as it's the second time I've encountered this sad, sad man with a dismissive and rude attitude. It's truly a shame that the majority of our visit was soured by such unprofessional and unwelcoming behavior. Never coming back. read more

This place is a fabriholics treasure hunt. Don't expect much in the way of customer service. Take your place in line for cutting and know how much you want them to cut. But the prices are the reason we keep going back! The Indian School location has had a lot of effort in sorting and neatly displaying most of the flat fold fabrics and has added a lot of bolts. I was at sas today and dealt with one of the fabric cutters. There is a spoke rule there that fabric off a bolt or roll there has to be two yards left. The bolt had 7.75 yards. I needed 6 yards. So I opted for 5.75 yards. He did not enjoy the math part of the equation. I then saw in writing on the countertop one yard must be on the bolt for cottons, minkee and upholstery. When I commented on that he sure got angry and said he doesn't make the rules. I said well these rules are conflicting. He became pretty angry. Reiterating he doesn't make the rules. I said hey not trying to upset you but someone should clearly indicate the rules. He was unreasonable with his attitude. Too bad he was a jerk about things. Won't return. Lots of options for fabric. read more

THis is the place for overstock and remnanants + seconds. The fabric prices are amazing. The staff not always so attentive so it's manily self-serve. We just founf Sunbrella outdoor fabric @ $7 )$40-50) anywhere else. It's just some "defects" but tough to see what those might be. So worth it! read more

Best value for miles around! I have been sewing & purchasing fabric & notions here for over 10 years. You may not be able to consistently find super high end fabric, but the selection of knits, upholstery fabric, buttons & trims ... insane. I love to dig thru the many discount boxes to find great retro patterned gems! I would say that the customer service has always been good. Some of the older employees ( I'm older myself) can appear gruff, but they answer your questions. You get what you need. The young men that work their are always offering to help me carry large fabric bolts to the cutting table. I have witnessed, on more than one occasion, some "Karen," go nuts & complain when they come to the cutting counter, but frankly, my observation has been that the complaining "Karen" has been rude & demanding, and talks "down" to the staff. They are very clear about minimum purchase requirements, but over, and over " Karen" gets mad when she has to spring for the additional quarter of a yard for $1.50. The store can be a bit hot inside, but you will not beat their bargains. If you want to make new pillows to revamp your living/bedroom, a new bathing suit & cover up, staple t-shirts, or a ball gown... they have the fabric & trims! Just be aware that though they have a massive selection, it appears to be deadstock. What is there is what they have, and when it's gone... that's it. Also if you have to get a particular texture or specific color, they may not have it. The Phoenix location seems to have a much broader selection than Tempe. It's a good place to go when you need to restock your stash for future makes. Another thing to consider, there will not be instructuions for care & type of fabric, when it is not on an actual bolt. Newer sewists may find this frustrating, but for me, all my handmades are prewashed prior to sewing, then handled gently. It will not be a " big box store" experience, but they have a great selection & good prices! read more

They have mostly new staff here now and just a couple of regulars. The cashier assured me that it is self-service there mostly (so my complaint about not having customer service is useless, lol.) She did point me in the right direction when I asked so that was refreshing. This is still the only reliable place to find the widest selection of fabric unless you know where to shop online. I am also glad to see JoAnnes tried to make a comeback by opening a new location on 32nd street and IndianSchool however, they are only good for findings, sewing machines, craft supplies, etc. They have a smaller selection of fabric and it's full-price with a few discounts here and there. both locations are pretty random but nobody beats SAS for keeping a large selection. I'm proud of them for staying open through the hassle of COVID when so many small businesses did not. read more

The selection is good but the staff is awful. They are so rude. As someone who designs clothing and works with in fashion their knowledge base is nothing to write home about. After multiple bad experiences and then another one on Saturday I am done. The store on 19th Ave. is bigger. It is cleaner the people are nicer and they have a much better selection. The store in Tempe he could use a good cleaning, but the staff is wonderful. My coworker and I came here for fabric for her daughters regalia as they dance at Pow Wows. They had the fabric she wanted and according to her for much less than in Washington State. I picked up some native print fleece to make my daughter a blanket which she loved and very reasonably priced. I'm visiting from out of town and I was so impressed by this little wholesale fabric vendor. I definitely got carried away and it was only my first day in Phoenix. A few notes: this is a wholesale experience. This means there's really no right to come in with an expectation of cleanliness or staff availability. That being said, the staff was pretty welcoming, curious about projects, transparent on the yardage, and willing to stash my suitcase while I looked around. Prices were fannnnntastic. What an amazing selection of all types of fabric. The store is very organized and it's easy to see all of the selections. The check out involves a long line waiting for a few employees to cut the fabric. Once the fabric is cut you must pay for it before you can retrieve it. That is one area that should be streamlined. Wow, shopping in there was an experience, to say the least. On a Thursday mid day, it took 30 minutes to get fabric cut and the whole time, the atmosphere in the store was uncomfortable. I was patient while waiting for my turn at the cutting counter because the cutters take time to assist individuals when they're cutting. Sharlet helped me. She was amazing! I'd factored all of my fabric needs based on a specific width of fabric. Sharlet did all of the math to re-calculate my purchase because their fabric was a different width. The staff is rude and store is chaotic. They yell at customers, yell at each other and are not discrete about it at all when frustrated. One staff member literally threw herself onto the counter and groaned. I can't believe the owner of this store hasn't done anything about this terrible customer service. I will not be returning. This place is amazing! The building is huge and the variety of fabrics available can't be beat. They've also got lots of sewing accessories and other odds and ends, and all of them are at unbeatable prices. Shopping in there is like a fun scavenger hunt and you have to search to find what you're looking for, so don't expect to drop in for a quick visit. I'm always here a few hours at a minimum. The only downsides are that the building is really hot and sweaty in the summer, and that sometimes it can be hard to find what you need. Even despite that, SAS is my favorite fabric store in the valley. read more
