Came with some friends for a lateish dinner and it was alright! Tried the sushi pizza which was weird and soggy- scallion pancake should've been crisper. Rest of sushi thankfully was much better- scallop roll was delish! Service was friendly and helpful too, and there were plenty of open tables on a Friday night. Nice to have a sit-down sushi option close to Columbia. read more

Went here for lunch. Service was a bit slow, despite there being 5-6 staff on hand (and I came in right at opening, at 11:30.). Part of the reason was, despite having the whole restaurant available, they put me in this back corner area, in the back of the restaurant. I appreciated that the miso soup felt authentic, with large pieces of tofu, something that I rarely see. It tasted good. The sushi was just good enough. I honestly couldn't tell the fish quality, because it was so dark in the establishment, but the salmon and California roll was good. The yellowtail quality definitely was worse. I paid 19$ for the "any 3 rolls lunch special", and thought it was a bit pricey, especially considering Dragon Sushi was just a couple minutes walk and had $15.5 "any 3 roll" sushi. The prices for nigiri were insane (charged by the price, 6$ per), and with the OK fish quality on the yellowtail, I decided not to take that gamble. read more

Do not order via their website - it took SO long and we live really close by. They use doordash and it was just a really bad experience. We have ordered here via uber eats multiple times and it was completely fine. I really love the sushi here - I always get the salmon avovado rolls ($9 for a roll). We have also tried the udon and gyudon - very flavorful - could use more portion serving but overall satisfying! We haven't eaten at the restaurant and always get take out. Decent quality give the price! read more

Went back for the karraage and also got a salad. Had to ask for more dressing for salad as I couldn't taste it at all but once I did it was good. I ordered extra sauce for the chicken because I knew from experience I wouldn't eat it all and needed some sauce to take home. Well, they packed my leftovers to go and , of course, I guess threw away the extra sauce instead of giving it to me. If I just wanted plain chicken I wouldn't eat have made it at home. But it was good at the restaurant. read more

Solid spot near Columbia campus for a sit-down meal, esp for their lunch special which has deals for ~$20 and come with a small miso soup or salad. Been here a couple times and got the (warm) soba noodle soup, katsu don, spicy tonkotsu ramen and the sushi rolls which are the best deal imo (18 rolls for $20). They have spacious seating inside and good service so overall a decent Japanese spot for students! read more

I still completely love this place and its solid $30 chirashi bowls! Sapps does sushi so well here. Also check out the older version of this review, my opinions still stand. Lunch specials look good, they are still about ~$20. Would recommend the sushi lunch specials over the other options. They got a great location here with plenty of seating in the back of the restaurant, a bar area in front, and a tiny bit of outdoor seating, which was lovely on a good early summer's day. Service is pretty quick and everyone is nice. Not a spot I'd travel far to, but one of my favorite quiet local spots. read more

This restaurant is my go to sushi spot in Manhattan. As soon as you walk in the servers are welcoming and sit you down right away even if you don't have a reservation. Quick and efficient service especially on a lunch break. The ambiance is quiet and such a nice setting, the art on the wall is eye-catching. The food is ALWAYS fresh and the sushi melts in your mouth. Prices are reasonable considering it is downtown. Great overall. read more

This place is super fast sushi. It's in upper West side. They got really good stuff. I highly recommended the vibe inside. I just picked up food so I have to eat there again, but it was really good. The service was really fast so this is my go to place. read more

Amazing sushi. The Guntry roll was my favorite. The Matcha churros were also really yummy. Lots of seating and very lively even on a Tuesday, would definitely go again. read more

Very comfortable restaurant and bar. I thought it would be a small restaurant but it's pretty big restaurant. We went for quick happy hour. They have decent price for HH drinks. Since it was so cold outside we went for hot sake and tried their spicy edamame and sashimi. We would come back again to try their ramen read more

Got delivery and hot food plate was placed directly on sushi no divider. Sushi was warm. Do they take no pride in their sushi?

Good food, good prices, and excellent attentive service from server and bus boys. 4 of us went and we were beyond stuffed for less than $100 which is rare nowadays when eating good food! Will be back for sure. read more

I picked up and I now have a go to sushi pick up place! The food was fresh and well prepared. The packing was neat. The cashier I picked up from was very friendly. Positive experience and I'll definitely go again when I'm having a sushi craving! read more

The service was quick, and the staff were attentive. The restaurant was much larger than I expected and fairly quiet around lunchtime on the weekday we visited. I ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box. The teriyaki sauce hadn't quite soaked into the fish, so the piece that I got wasn't very flavorful, but I didn't mind solely because it was salmon (and I don't mind the taste of plain salmon). The miso soup, salad, and rice were tasty, and chicken was great, though a bit soft. The portion sizes are on the smaller end, which ended up being perfect for me that day. The food here was decent; I may come here again for a quick lunch, but it's not the kind of restaurant I would recommend to people who are visiting and looking for stand-out dining experiences. read more

SAPPs has quality Japanese food with solid lunch specials and an extensive seating area in the back. Sapps is a welcome addition to this neighborhood for solid lunch options in the Morningside neighborhood. With fast casual on every block Location: With fast-casual dining spots permeating almost every food option, the Sapps location is conveniently located on Broadway between 112th and 113th. The entrance is narrow, and you mostly see the bar, but as you walk along the bar side, there is a large seating area in the back. The seats and decor is elevated to its last iteration under different management. Food: Order the classic Katsu don (Chicken cutlet over rice with egg ), and my friend got the Poke bowl. The size and portion were impressive. The quality of the chicken cutlet was prepared perfectly. The poke bowl was presented well and was gobbled up. Service: The staff was very attentive with ordering, refilling our water, and any additional questions on the menu. With the thought of hosting a more significant event in the back here, there can accommodate about 40-50 people, so I plan to work with them on a possibility if the opportunity arises. Sum-up: Excited to go back to trip their bento box or one of their sushi roll sets for lunchtime or dinner. It is good to have them in this neighborhood. read more

I stopped by for happy hour one Friday night. Staff was friendly. They had a lot of returning customers. I would definitely come again if I was in the area. The takoyaki was delicious and I would order the yuzu cocktail again. Skip the California roll. read more

My Sister and I went to Sapps for dinner and liked it so much that we went back a few weeks later. The interior is very nice with lots of seating. Both times we went we had no issues with being seated quickly. . From our two experience we had the Sashimi Dinner, Firecracker (Yellowtail topped with yellowtail Jalapeno, Seaweed Salad, Yellowtail Serrano, Karaage (Japanese style fried chicken), Salmon Skin Salad, The Thunder Dome (Cubed tuna or salmon, wrapped with avocado and topped with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and tobiko), and the Matcha Churro for dessert. The sashimi was some of the best I have ever had. It was extremely fresh, flavorful, great quality, and the portions were larger than I expected. All of the dishes were great. The Thunder Dome was very unique and I have not seen (or tasted) anything like it before. The wait staff was really attentive and took great care of us. My sister and I are huge sushi fans and this place ranks near the top of the places we have been. We had two awesome experiences and would definitely come back when we are back in the area. read more

Draft beer not cold, pork premade, noodle mediocre, Japanese food can be better; location very convenient but others need improvement

This is a great lunch location in terms of proximity to Columbia campus and other schools nearby. The space is big with lots of seating and a cool Japanese anime-inspired interior. I've been here a few times for lunch and had a good experience with fast service. It's definitely a good sit down place to have lunch with someone and still be out in less than an hour. Previously, I've ordered the donburi and rice dishes and it's been satisfying. Meat portions are not that much, but it's good enough for lunch. Also tried bento boxes and some sushi rolls and they were good enough for lunch as well. The appetizer options are pretty good. Kara age is chunky and goes well with the spicy mayo sauce. Takoyaki is also not too bad, though can be a little oily. This most recent time I came, I decided to try something else on the menu. WARNING: DO NOT COME FOR RAMEN!! The spicy miso ramen was such a disappointment and did not taste like a Japanese ramen at all. The broth tasted weird and the spice seemed more like a char than any kind of pepper. There was also no chashu pork slices but it came with ground pork and a grilled hot dog. There was a few pieces of bamboo shoots and a load of bean sprouts and cabbage. The hot dog's charred flavor is probably what seeped into the broth that made it taste unpleasant. Overall, it was not enjoyable to eat and absolutely not worth the price they charge for it. Probably one of the worst ramen dishes I've had in the city. read more

The lunch chicken katsu curry donburi was disappointing. Just rice and one small chicken cutlet, nothing else. No salad, no soup, nothing in the curry, no complimentary soda, or nothing. Just one small cutlet and rice... for $19. The other dish had a bunch of cucumbers in it which seems like a poor decision during a big salmonella recall affecting NY and 18 other states. Would not order from again. read more

Food 4/10 Ordered the udon, definitely overpriced for what it is. I could definitely make this at home, but wanted to go with a couple of friends. A lot of the dishes are hit or miss. Atmosphere 4/10 It's fine, just felt a bit icky inside? Can't really describe why, but it was a very mid space. Service 4/10 Even though the restaurant was practically empty, we weren't allowed to get seated until the entire party arrived :( Also didn't love the attitude of our server. read more

Came to check this new place out! It was a very cozy & busy place with many college kids around the area. Service was great! We got the spicy miso ramen, gyu don, sashimi (14pc for $33), and yaki udon (not pictured). The spicy miso ramen was delicious! The broth was very thick and they served it with cabbage which I've never had in my ramen before. Loved the combination!! The gyu don was very flavorful and creamy when you combine everything and break the egg yolk!! You have to pay extra for the egg though! They didn't specify what type of fish they serve in the menu for the sashimi platter :') but the fish tasted very fresh and yummy. I would definitely come back to try other food too! Their drinks sound very good! Prices were reasonable! read more

We decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews. It was our daughter's birthday and she wanted sushi. We came here on Halloween Day, sorry for the late review. This place was previously a Mexican restaurant but I guess it closed and a sushi restaurant took over. We were immediately seated near the bar to sit. We ordered 1 spider roll (5 pieces), which is deep fried soft-shell crab, lettuce, avocado, and cucumber topped with eel sauce. We also ordered toro scallion roll and sushi & sashimi for 2- 16 pieces sashimi and 10 pieces sushi with a California crunchy spicy tuna and eel avocado roll. Everything was delicious. But, the reason for my low rating is because the place was freezing and we were eating with our coats on. We arrived here early for dinner and trick or treating was going on. The kids were going in and out of the restaurants for their candies. I don't mind that they were opening and closing the door but I did mind that there was no heat in the restaurant. The servers were all dressed in their furry costumes, so I'm guessing that's why they turned off the heat because they were sweating in it. Eventually, one of them had their top of the costume off and walking around in the restaurant. We asked the host if we could sit further in the restaurant to be warm, but was told that it wasn't open until dinner time, which was 5:30. We got there before 5. The back was never opened when 5:30 came around. The warmest place in the restaurant was the restroom. LOL. Even though the food was good, I don't think I will return. I'm pretty sure there are better and warmer restaurants to go to! read more

The food was well below average. I paid $9 for 4 small pieces of overcooked, mushy and bland shumai. The miso soup was $5 and extremely salty and cold. The delivery took so long that by then time it got to me it was stone cold. Huge waste of money. Coming from Colorado I was excited and expecting great food. DISAPPOINTED is an understatement. read more

SWEET MARY JESUS!! This was the best restaraunt OF MY LIFE. Personally, I'm a vegetarian. First, let's start off with the apps, the veggie dumplings, tempura, and the agedashi tofu were so yummy I could feel it melt in my mouth. I mean, HOLY TRINITY! They were so delicious!! I usually ordered their sushi and I might I add the best. freakin. sushi. ever. The sweet potato tempura was to die for. My friends had exclaimed that the beef fried yaki udon was the best thing to come in their mouths. Now let's get to the big guns, the MATCHA CHURROS!! How can I explain my love for these damn delicacies? I need them like the frickin Fourth of July! They are so yummy!! Now let's talk about service because boy were we served. Let's talk about Matt, our beloved waiter for the seven times we've been there in three consecutive weeks. Every waiter catered to our needs emotionally, nutritionally, and fashionably. They gave us sapps merch, emotional support, and really REALLY good eats. They give us free hi-chews after every meal and on our last day, they gave us matcha churros on the house. Did I talk about the panda yet? You just have to go there to find out! Sapps, I love you with every fiber of my being. read more

The lunch special rolls were very basic. Spicy salmon roll shouldn't just have a glop of spicy mayo in it. Very underwhelming for the price.

Decent Ramen, decent sushi, 7/10 on that front. Poor service, both inattentive and rushed. Guy couldn't wait 5 seconds for me to pull out my card when we got the bill and we couldn't get him back for like 10 mins, never mind trying to find someone to place our order. Casual dining, we saw a number of folks there with friends but no dates. $45 after tip for the 3 rolls for $18 combo and spicy miso ramen.
