Went here for lunch. Service was a bit slow, despite there being 5-6 staff on hand (and I came in right at opening, at 11:30.). Part of the reason was, despite having the whole restaurant available, they put me in this back corner area, in the back of the restaurant. I appreciated that the miso soup felt authentic, with large pieces of tofu, something that I rarely see. It tasted good. The sushi was just good enough. I honestly couldn't tell the fish quality, because it was so dark in the establishment, but the salmon and California roll was good. The yellowtail quality definitely was worse. I paid 19$ for the "any 3 rolls lunch special", and thought it was a bit pricey, especially considering Dragon Sushi was just a couple minutes walk and had $15.5 "any 3 roll" sushi. The prices for nigiri were insane (charged by the price, 6$ per), and with the OK fish quality on the yellowtail, I decided not to take that gamble. read more

Do not order via their website - it took SO long and we live really close by. They use doordash and it was just a really bad experience. We have ordered here via uber eats multiple times and it was completely fine. I really love the sushi here - I always get the salmon avovado rolls ($9 for a roll). We have also tried the udon and gyudon - very flavorful - could use more portion serving but overall satisfying! We haven't eaten at the restaurant and always get take out. Solid spot near Columbia campus for a sit-down meal, esp for their lunch special which has deals for ~$20 and come with a small miso soup or salad. Been here a couple times and got the (warm) soba noodle soup, katsu don, spicy tonkotsu ramen and the sushi rolls which are the best deal imo (18 rolls for $20). I still completely love this place and its solid $30 chirashi bowls! Sapps does sushi so well here. Also check out the older version of this review, my opinions still stand. Lunch specials look good, they are still about ~$20. Would recommend the sushi lunch specials over the other options. They got a great location here with plenty of seating in the back of the restaurant, a bar area in front, and a tiny bit of outdoor seating, which was lovely on a good early summer's day. Service is pretty quick and everyone is nice. Not a spot I'd travel far to, but one of my favorite quiet local spots. read more

Quick and efficient service especially on a lunch break. The ambiance is quiet and such a nice setting, the art on the wall is eye-catching. The service was quick, and the staff were attentive. The restaurant was much larger than I expected and fairly quiet around lunchtime on the weekday we visited. I ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box. The teriyaki sauce hadn't quite soaked into the fish, so the piece that I got wasn't very flavorful, but I didn't mind solely because it was salmon (and I don't mind the taste of plain salmon). The miso soup, salad, and rice were tasty, and chicken was great, though a bit soft. The portion sizes are on the smaller end, which ended up being perfect for me that day. The seats and decor is elevated to its last iteration under different management. Food: Order the classic Katsu don (Chicken cutlet over rice with egg ), and my friend got the Poke bowl. The size and portion were impressive. The quality of the chicken cutlet was prepared perfectly. The poke bowl was presented well and was gobbled up. Service: The staff was very attentive with ordering, refilling our water, and any additional questions on the menu. With the thought of hosting a more significant event in the back here, there can accommodate about 40-50 people, so I plan to work with them on a possibility if the opportunity arises. My Sister and I went to Sapps for dinner and liked it so much that we went back a few weeks later. The interior is very nice with lots of seating. Both times we went we had no issues with being seated quickly. . From our two experience we had the Sashimi Dinner, Firecracker (Yellowtail topped with yellowtail Jalapeno, Seaweed Salad, Yellowtail Serrano, Karaage (Japanese style fried chicken), Salmon Skin Salad, The Thunder Dome (Cubed tuna or salmon, wrapped with avocado and topped with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and tobiko), and the Matcha Churro for dessert. The sashimi was some of the best I have ever had. It was extremely fresh, flavorful, great quality, and the portions were larger than I expected. All of the dishes were great. The Thunder Dome was very unique and I have not seen (or tasted) anything like it before. The wait staff was really attentive and took great care of us. My sister and I are huge sushi fans and this place ranks near the top of the places we have been. Just one small cutlet and rice... for $19. The other dish had a bunch of cucumbers in it which seems like a poor decision during a big salmonella recall affecting NY and 18 other states. This is a great lunch location in terms of proximity to Columbia campus and other schools nearby. The space is big with lots of seating and a cool Japanese anime-inspired interior. I've been here a few times for lunch and had a good experience with fast service. It's definitely a good sit down place to have lunch with someone and still be out in less than an hour. Previously, I've ordered the donburi and rice dishes and it's been satisfying. Meat portions are not that much, but it's good enough for lunch. Also tried bento boxes and some sushi rolls and they were good enough for lunch as well. The appetizer options are pretty good. Kara age is chunky and goes well with the spicy mayo sauce. Takoyaki is also not too bad, though can be a little oily. This most recent time I came, I decided to try something else on the menu. WARNING: DO NOT COME FOR RAMEN!! The spicy miso ramen was such a disappointment and did not taste like a Japanese ramen at all. The broth tasted weird and the spice seemed more like a char than any kind of pepper. There was also no chashu pork slices but it came with ground pork and a grilled hot dog. There was a few pieces of bamboo shoots and a load of bean sprouts and cabbage. The hot dog's charred flavor is probably what seeped into the broth that made it taste unpleasant. Overall, it was not enjoyable to eat and absolutely not worth the price they charge for it. Came to check this new place out! It was a very cozy & busy place with many college kids around the area. Service was great! We got the spicy miso ramen, gyu don, sashimi (14pc for $33), and yaki udon (not pictured). The spicy miso ramen was delicious! The broth was very thick and they served it with cabbage which I've never had in my ramen before. Loved the combination!! The gyu don was very flavorful and creamy when you combine everything and break the egg yolk!! You have to pay extra for the egg though! They didn't specify what type of fish they serve in the menu for the sashimi platter :') but the fish tasted very fresh and yummy. I would definitely come back to try other food too! We decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews. It was our daughter's birthday and she wanted sushi. We came here on Halloween Day, sorry for the late review. This place was previously a Mexican restaurant but I guess it closed and a sushi restaurant took over. We were immediately seated near the bar to sit. We ordered 1 spider roll (5 pieces), which is deep fried soft-shell crab, lettuce, avocado, and cucumber topped with eel sauce. We also ordered toro scallion roll and sushi & sashimi for 2- 16 pieces sashimi and 10 pieces sushi with a California crunchy spicy tuna and eel avocado roll. Everything was delicious. But, the reason for my low rating is because the place was freezing and we were eating with our coats on. We arrived here early for dinner and trick or treating was going on. The kids were going in and out of the restaurants for their candies. I don't mind that they were opening and closing the door but I did mind that there was no heat in the restaurant. The servers were all dressed in their furry costumes, so I'm guessing that's why they turned off the heat because they were sweating in it. Eventually, one of them had their top of the costume off and walking around in the restaurant. We asked the host if we could sit further in the restaurant to be warm, but was told that it wasn't open until dinner time, which was 5:30. We got there before 5. The back was never opened when 5:30 came around. The warmest place in the restaurant was the restroom. LOL. Even though the food was good, I don't think I will return.
