We stopped in on New Year's Eve for an early dinner to beat the crowds. We shared a Hibachi table with two other couples, which builds the experience for everyone. The chef was great, had good sense of humor, and was just a little dangerous. The grilled food was simple, delicious, and not over seasoned. The sushi (we had the Colts Roll) was very good, too. Full disclosure...we went to Sapporo on a Saturday night for hibachi because we couldn't get in to Takaoa. However I had high hopes for going to a new place and love hibachi. Well here goes. This goes to the manager of the Sapporo on Lima Rd. 1. Don't take reservations if you can't honor them. We were seated at least 20 minutes after our reservation time. 2. If you break glass on a hibachi table, move the group immediately. Don't attempt to clean it up and think we won't be cringing at the thought of biting into shards of glass. 3. If the chef takes 45 minutes to make it to the table and it is now over an hour past our reservation time before the cooking even begins, don't tell us the solution is not to tip him. It isn't his fault you can't manage a restaurant. 4. Don't throw your employees (poor Logan) under the bus. Take responsibility for the fact that you don't know how to run a restaurant. 5. If you screw up, make it right. Do that in the form of dollars. My dad told me when you screw up it is a chance to show people that you care and create a positive experience out of a negative one. All in all, the food was amazing. But there are many places to get hibachi which the owner told us at the end of the night. She suggested we go there next instead of her restaurant. We went for hibachi lunch! Had our own table. Our waitress was wonderful and our chef was spectacular! Between the 6 of us, we tried filet, chicken, shrimp, and steak. There was hair in 2 of our plates from the kitchen to begin with I went to the restroom and one of the kitchen employees had rubber gloves on going to the bathroom and then ran his hands with rubber gloves under water at the sink no soap and grabbed a paper towel and walked out ! Did he continue to wear the same gloves ? Chef was not very energetic or entertaining, waitress was average (had to remind her that we were celebrating my Mom's 89 th Birthday after she gave us our bill trying to move us along! Also the Birthday dessert was sad as the pineapple had brown bad spots noted! My Filet Mignon was very tender but too salty! As we were putting my Mom's dessert into a take home box... a cleaning crew of about 3 workers came over and started cleaning the table... so rude felt rushed out after spending over $200 for dinners! One word: Delish!! Better than Koto. On par with Takaoka. Both my sis and I had hibachi steak and shrimp. Steak was cooked perfectly. Fried rice was super flavorful. Soup and salad was on par with all other Japanese restaurants. I thought shrimp had a slight fishy aftertaste but sis said hers was perfect (mind you that her palate isn't as sensitive to those kinds of things, lol). Less expensive than Takaoka. As a regular Sapporo's steakhouse customer, three years ago I would have said the food, service, and overall ambiance of Sapporo Steakhouse was superior. Over the years, the quality and integrity of the business has continued to rapidly decline. Upon our parties arrival, we were coldly greeted by seemingly unaware and uninterested hosts. After being seated, we were greeted by our waiter Tony. Throughout the evening it seemed as though our waiter felt "inconvenienced" by any requests made. Several of the members of our party requested a "honey ginger" sauce to ameliorate their meals. After the sauce was delivered, the overall consensus of the party was that the sauce was expired and did not taste normal, or even desirable in any way. Politely, the negative discovery made was brought to the waiters attention. In response both the waiter and the manager disagreed and ignorantly attempted to disregard the complaint. Upon several party members chiming in, the meal (that was in fact smothered in the honey ginger sauce) was reluctantly re-made. No formal apology was made, and eye rolls were in fact given. Overall the experience, food, and service of Sapporo steakhouse is no longer a place anyone in our party will be recommending, or returning to. read more

We had a party of 9 for Mother's Day dinner. They were very busy but got us right in per our reservation. Service throughout the meal was terrific. Waitress recommended cooked sushi rolls. We started with 5 and everyone at our table enjoyed them. All of our steak or dinner combinations were cooked to perfection. Also we. Celabrated a birthday so we got the pineapple boat with candles, singing and a picture. Nice touch!! My only surprise was the extra charge for fried rice while eating at Hibachi grill where our whole meal was prepared on the grill. This restaurant has great food, but customer service is really lacking. At my most recent (and last) visit we had empty drinks for nearly the entire meal.(reasonably priced iced tea $2.50 each) We saw the waitress one time during our hour long dinner. The menus describe a meal that is different from the one you will receive. While the food is very tasty, if you question why it is different from what is listed in the menu, like the vegetables not being anywhere to be found, you will be told that the vegetables are chopped onions in the rice. The truth is, Fort Wayne has great restaurants. If a restaurant wants to make it in this marketplace, they will have to do a far better job than Sapporo is doing at making customers happy. The hostess there are extremely rude ! They ignored us for 5 minutes until they actually greeted it us . They were also annoyed that we wanted Habachi and rolled their eyes . There was also a Brunette girl working on March 7th and she skipped my family several times . I finally went up there and she lied saying they been calling us several times and kept insisting until I finally told her we were listening the whole time and she just rolled her eyes. The worst part is that we weren't the only ones she was being rude to . We sat next to the hostess station and I saw her several times get an attitude with customers and roll her eyes at them . I understand it was busy but she shouldn't act like that because this is the first impression a customer gets . Sapporo is in a well lit parking lot right off Lima Rd. and is very easy to get to. Every time we have walked in, we've been greeted by two hosts/hostesses with big smiles and very friendly to talk to. The sushi has been spot on every time and always comes out quickly & fresh. Having our vehicle worked on next door and this place was walking distance for lunch. Clean & neat appearance outside, inside, and throughout with a modern cozy feel. The sushi/sashimi bar was enticing but we opted for hibachi. The waitress was attentive and very pleasant. Our chef was engaging (not 'Best of Show' but typical when adults are the only audience) and his food was delightful. He responded to my wife's request and had staff bring additional ingredients to accommodate her. Lunch menu had several selections, of which we tried chicken, scallops, and salmon. We get through the whole experience and the couple next to us didn't receive their rice that was cooked up in front of us. To lighten the mood, I said how about a round of saki bombs for their troubles? - insinuating it should be on the house. The waitress bluntly said, ok, 6 saki bombs? (for our group and the couple) I said sure! And she said ok we'll add these to your bill. So I'm put in the position of buying 6 saki bombs for the table, and had to say no sorry, we'll just do 4 (leaving out the strangers we were sat with). I don't expect much from when dining out. I always look past the mistakes and mess ups and just enjoy the meal regardless, but this instance really struck a nerve with me. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll ever return. We had a large party with 2 toddlers and a wheelchair. Our service was fast and efficient. When I (and he) couldn't identify something on my vegetarian sushi platter; he had someone there who could right away! Everyone said their food was WONDERFUL. The presentation is very pretty. Not only were the rolls themselves good, but the accompanying sauce/dips of wasabi, pickled ginger, were phenomenal. He acted as if he didn't want our business from the minute we walked in the door and then made us leave in the most rude fashion possible. Once I told him I felt he was rude, he was never apologetic nor did he thank us for the money we just spent in that establishment. The food want with half of what I paid for it. The hibachi that was prepared in the back, because he said we were 9 minutes too late to sit at the grill, was not good. The service was great, however the food all tasted the same, my scallops and her chicken, it was very much just an average meal, no WOW to the food what so ever!! BUT what wasn't good was the food poisoning that my daughter and I received. Two hours after leaving, both of had very upset tummies and cramping for two days. I did go back and talk to a lunchtime manager, & while polite - there was little interest other than offering me a $30 gift certificate to try them again. We opted for a shorter wait in the dining area and were seated 20 minutes later after being given an estimated 10-15 minute wait. We waited for a server to arrive to take our drink order. Servers passed by our table, yet we waited. We watched other patrons drinking colorful beverages and hoped for our own dreams of thirst realization. Yet, we waited. I became amused, wondering just how long the servers would continue to pass right by our table of four. At about 7:40PM a couple was seated at the table to our left.
