We love Santiago's; however this location is terrible. Been there twice lately and the food is served lukewarm. They show they are a sit down restaurant as there are booths. You order at the counter, which is ok but when they brought our food it was in to go containers and in a sack. There were about 5 others sitting at various booths eating the same way. If they do not want to be a sit down restaurant then advertise that. Will continue to go to Santiago's, especially the one in Englewood, but We are crossing The Castle Rock one off our list. read more

We just moved to Castle Rock so we have had Santiago's for years around the state and we always thought they were quality Mexican food, but not in Castle Rock! The Castle Rock location is total garbage and they take FOREVER and they're not even busy. I ordered the pastor street tacos and from the photo they didn't have anything in there besides dried out pork and hard taco shells... Didn't contain any pineapple or cilantro or onions. I want to start this review off by saying I tried to prevent sending a negative review, with hopes that the Restaurant Manager would understand where I was coming from and make good with the situation. We ordered a significant amount of burritos from this location last night with an order to be made and ready to go prior to 630a the next day. We definitely understand making 350+ breakfast burritos with a short turnaround is a challenge, that being said, if they didn't think they could do it - let us know! The burritos were ready to go on time, there was no question about that, and as a matter of fact, we appreciate the hard work put into it. However, let me let you know where the ship starts turning around... When we started eating the burritos, we got feedback that this wasn't the "Santiago's brand we were used to." and the "taste was compromised." The burritos weren't filled with chili like they usually are and full of eggs, meat, potatoes, cheese, etc. The Santiago's that we are used to... Moving on, people aren't going to put up a big stink, because the food was paid for by the company and it is free food. However; I felt compelled to let the management team at Santiago's know what was going on, just so (1) this experience wouldn't happen again (2) we would continue to go back to this location (3) let other people who order the amount of burritos we did, not have to experience this. I decided to call the manager of the store to give her a little insight on what we experienced (the professional thing to do) and this is where the plot got THICK! When speaking with the manager of this location (MOD 3/28/14 at 10:45a) I informed her of all of the above. I let her know very respectfully that this isn't the Santiago's brand that is consistent to the taste they brought to the Denver area. I let her know the level of satisfaction was relatively low and the masses weren't satisfied with the product. She respectfully listed to me, but apparently this didn't sit well with her b/c she told me there are about 1000+ other burritos that went out after our order and no one has complained. YES, THIS WAS HER RESPONSE! She didn't care that we just spent close to $1000 on breakfast burritos and this is something that we do for our organization on a monthly basis. This didn't matter to her... After a short conversation she said with the utmost confidence for our organization not to order from her location again. I asked for clarification, and she confirmed again, "you might want to order from a different location if you aren't satisfied with our food." There was no effort to make good by our dissatisfaction, there wasn't an apology, there wasn't a "Hey, we sell HUNDREDS of burritos a day and we might have made a mistake." Complete arrogance, lack of care, concern, and even more so the customer experience was at a all time low. Needless to say, we won't order our $1000 orders from Santiago's in the future. Hopefully this isn't a reflection of all of their locations, which I highly doubt, cause we have had A+ experiences from all of their locations EXCEPT this one. Manager, who's name starts with a "K," Krissy? Katie? Katherine... I apologize for forgetting your name... my purpose of the phone call was to be able to resolve this over the phone versus having to write a thesis via Yelp. It's hard to imagine a more mediocre restaurant than Santiago's. In a state with a significant Hispanic population and in a town with at least one kick-ass taco joint (hint: starts with Y) you'd expect to get some decent Mexican eats from a place as frequented as Santiago's. Indeed, I entered with high hopes as I love cheap Mexican food and the place was well-recommended by another area resident. Turns out Santiago's is about as blah as you can make Mexican food. The menu is sprawling but offers few standouts. Even their burritos, the flagship food of an entire country, were wildly lame. The flavors didn't really pop so much as try to stand out of their life support-equipped wheelchairs and fall flat on their face, the tumble disemboweling their life-sustaining apparatus and smearing frayed plastic tubing tentacles around the bland corpse like the wings of some unholy snow angel. I'm fairly sure the flavors are on par with a microwave burrito. Is it harsh? Yes. Is it the truth? Sadly, yes. Even their stuffed sopapillas, recommended to me as their best menu item, barely made any headway towards redemption. The dough was mealy and the texture was the sort that makes you rub your tongue along the roof of your mouth to make it go away. The sauce had some kick to it, but it was just barely recognizable as salsa verde. The sopapillas weren't awful, but I wouldn't call them good. I wanted to like Santiago's. I love cheap, greasy, fast Mexican eats. Santiago's didn't really deliver on anything other than a full belly. It was completely inoffensive, but it when Yelp says two stars is, "Meh. I've experienced better," I couldn't have said it any better myself. It's mediocre food at average prices. If it were cheaper I could increase its rating for value, but frankly with Yolanda's (there I said it) a three minute drive away, coming here is a waste of your money. read more

The green chili is so awesome that I am tempted to give them the full 5 stars! It is not a heavily meaty pork green chili but more of a spicy green chili sauce/ chili. Santiago's smothers most of their items in green which gives everything a delicious flavor. The refried beans and pico are fresh and flavorful. My favorite is one chili relleno and one cheese enchilada smothered in 1/2 and 1/2....yummmy! Be sure to get a side of pico and it will kick things up a notch. The ambiance is a little dive Mexican Restaurant but that is all part of the charm! If you want to glam it up a bit place your order to go and mix some margs up at home and enjoy the feast. Lousy fast food - not worth going. I was so disappointed! Fast food atmosphere, taco shells crispy from a box. Is the rest from a can? I visit Santiago's every time I'm in the area. I've come to enjoy their basic Tex-Mex fare. On my latest visit I ordered a steak burrito smothered in their hottest sauce and a tostada. Our server was friendly and prompt. The food made it out of the kitchen very quickly. The sauce my burrito was smothered in was not quite as spicy as I expected, but the flavors were a wonderfully complex. Bites of green chillies and the creaminess made for a great combination. The steak was a tad overcooked and chewy and probably could have been seasoned a bit more. But for six bucks it was well worth it. Overall it was a good visit. If you are looking for authentic Mexican, Santiago's will leave you terribly disappointed. If you're on the hunt for simple Tex-Mex served fast, Santiago's is your place. read more

Good Mexican food (in that it is cheap, smothered, and spicy) but the service is okay at best. We have been inside for table service a handful of times and the servers have made us feel rushed, and treated us as if we're an inconvenience. Coincidentally they always get "nice" after dropping the check. SO, desperately wanting a delicious carnitas Indian taco with half and half green chili, but wanting to avoid the employees, we opted for the drive-thru. Oddly, the service was just as rude: a large sign that reads "no special orders" as you pull up as well as a sign at the window that reads "tips accepted and appreciated at the drive-thru." This place looks like a dive ... it is ... but the food is incredible and cheap! It's "crummy but good" !! Part of a very successful chain, this is what they call an "express" outlet ... smaller menu I guess. It's housed in a converted Kentucky Fried Chicken, so don't expect much for decor. The Green Chili is the best we've had.... and the hot is just that... VERY HOT. We get the half-n-half. Their breakfast burritos are small but cheap and very good. It'll take two to fill you up. What a disappointment. I grew up in Denver but now live in Seattle and crave Santiagos, so every time I'm in town I frequent this establishment to get my fix. Well, this morning after waiting 20 minutes for their slow service (it wasn't a weekend) we finally got to order our 5 breakfast burritos. A very loud gentlemen interrupted the lady to tell us "we stopped serving breakfast at 11". We looked at the time and said "its 11:01, can we please?" He said, "my clock says the same so NO" . Wow! I can think of 127,428 other responses that would have been more appropriate and a little more customer centric. We told him never mind and he said, "you're welcome". What!? What exactly do we have to be thankful for? Certainly not your attitude! This has left such a poor taste in our mouth. Too bad this will forever be a memory tied to Santiagos when I find myself craving it from afar and recommending it to any passerbyers. Please retrain your people. During a time like this I consciously choose small business however your employees decisions to treat and talk to their customers resulted in us taking our business to a large corporation. Glorified Taco bell, although taco bells are probably cleaner. Food was okay, plentiful, and reasonable value. Nothing really stood out though (tried tamales, tacos, enchiladas, pork indian taco, salsa & chips, rice & beans). Not a lot of flavor or originality. The salsa was probably the only unique item, but I don't know if it was good or just unique. I probably would have given them 3 stars if things had been cleaner. I do give the staff credit, they were trying their hardest to keep up with a packed dining room with high turnover, and generally were polite. I ordered 2 pork burritos with rice, onions, cheese, and hot inside.....the pork was in chunks, dried out, no taste, big chunk of fat and not shredded at all and couldn't taste any hot sauce inside.....I have been to many santiago's and they are all becoming terrible....you'll see new cooks and new employees every time you go...i wont be back. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Santiagos. The food was just fine. The green chili was good, the only problem is that there are so many good Mexican food restaurants that it makes it tough to give it a four star rating. I will say the carnitas burrito smothered in their hot green chili was excelente! Me gusto un monton de verdad. The rest of the food was decent, but not memorable. In a couple words: breakfast burritos. But don't stop there. Try an Indian taco, and their green chili is some of the best tasting around. Sometimes, a place disguises their bad chili recipe by making the chili very hot. I enjoy hot, but not at the expense of flavor. Santiago's green chili is tasty (AND their hot is hot be forewarned), It's not full of corn starch or flour and neither is it dumped out of a can. It's not world class, but it's better than most restaurant green chili. Service at the Castle Rock Location has gone downhill. My family and I have been eating here almost weekly for several years and we understand mistakes happen. I always try to check my order before we leave since it's usually large. The kids behind the counter confirmed the order was all there so we left happy and ready to eat. We get home with the order we noticed were shorted a portion of an order. No big deal. It's happened before so we call to let them know we are coming back to retrieve the remaining portion of the order and the guy on the phone says "well I don't see anything left on the counter and ask me to bring back the entire order with a receipt (which they did not provide). My husband had already left and we live 20 minutes away so I explained to the guy on the phone and he said I'm sorry but without the whole order or receipt how can I be sure your not just trying to get free food. Seriously??!! I just spent $50 on Mexican food and tipped at a walk up counter. I asked to speak with a manager and get the "I am the manager and these are our policies and I am not going to make any exceptions." Sounds great dude! My husband tried to call to talk with them about what they needed and the guy said no we aren't remaking your food and hung up on him. My husband called back and the guy answered and then immediately hung up again. What a terrible excuse for customer service. We have had errors with our orders before and it's never been a problem. They were apologetic and wanted to make it right immediately. A call to ownership will be made so they know what is happening at that store. They have lost a long term customer for sure. read more

Santiago's - A Haiku If you order the hot Says the Human Torch, Flame On Napalm for your mouth If you don't pay attention you will never even see this place. Its tucked away off the highway in a little hole in the wall. But just like all the other locations, the food here is delicious. Santiago's is a great little place for a quick and cheap Mexican lunch. If you go early you need to grub one of the breakfast burritos. They are delicious. If its lunch your looking for, my personal favorite is the Stuffed Deluxe Beef and Bean Sopapilla. Just a fabulous and filling meal. Everything here is good to great. The ingredients are fresh, its well made, and very filling. Especially for the price. But what makes Santiago's shine is the green chili. Simply UNMATCHED. It comes in Mild, Hot and Half/Half. The hot will melt your brain. Its like Chernobyl in your mouth. I always rock the Half/Half and that's plenty. But even with the spice the flavor is not overwhelmed. And as any foodie knows, that is hard to do. read more
