    Breakfast burritos

I was on my way to Del Taco across the street and I saw this gem when looking both ways to cross and decided to go here and get REAL tacos instead and I was not disappointed. Excited to try their other items. Service was very fast and food was fresh, real ingredients

just WOW!!! i must say that i regret having waited so long to try this place. small, clean, no frills establishment w/limited seating and a decent selection of menu items. i had the cabeza tacos & barbacoa tacos, & my companion had the breakfast burrito. we were floored! the barbacoa tacos were tasty, although i felt like they could use more salt, but my companion loved them as they were. the burrito was large and in charge! packed with flavor and generous with the yummy fillings. but - wait - the stars of the show were the cabeza tacos. i am not exaggerating when i say that this was a full-on orgasmic "i'll have what she's having" experience. it's been 3 hours and i am pining for them already & unfortunately they're closed on sundays, so i am s.o.l. the meat was so tender, fatty, and divinely flavorful that it will make your cabeza spin and your taste buds scream for more. go! go! go!

An old friend of mine mentioned this place on NextDoor. We had planned to go to Sabrosura de Miami for Cubanos, but they have, sadly, closed. This place is close to the house! We were greeted by cheerful music outside (it's much quieter inside) and went to the counter to place our orders. This is a tiny place next to a 7-11. Food is made to order. I had a Coke, simply because I have never tried a Mexican Coke. I'm not a soda drinker, but it was okay. The chicken quesadilla was LOADED with crispy, melted, delicious queso. There's not a lot of chicken, but the cheese made up for it. The tacos al pastor were perfection. I could only manage one after half a quesadilla, but it was SO good! Took the other three home. They use white corn tortillas. The salsa accompanying the quesadilla and tacos was spicy and yummy. Totally not a fancy place, but REALLY good food. And generous quantities for a reasonable price, unlike My Neighbor Felix. I'm so happy that we found a place for yummy Mexican food that's less than 10 minutes away!

They open up at 8 am. Got here 5 till and waited. Few minutes after 8, two guys shows up knocking on the door. Finding out one is the cook, then other bringing in the drinks and supplies. I was the 2nd customer to get in. Got two breakfast burritos smothered and came out to $30. It's adjacent to 7-11. Six tables, 3 more seats against the wall. Does have a restroom for customers. Drink choices were bottled drinks of Jarritos, Mineral Agua and Mexcian Cokes. Also canned coke. $15 per smothered burrito was 4 stars. Loaded with chorizo and comes with sour cream. Surprised to find beans in my breakfast burritos, but it was small amount. Green chile medium heat was just right too.

Well, this place is more of the definition of hole in the wall. He has passed by it over 200 times, never noticed it. It is in a small strip mall, shared by a barbershop and 7-11. They have a small Internet presence - mainly a few social media platforms, I guess relying on word of mouth. It works for them - they have only about 5 tables with a maybe a 6 top bar or something like 12-14 top long table. The tables were full and two people were seated at the long table when we arrived. We decided on the Chicken Quesadilla, Asada Tacos, and Barbacoa Tacos. We grabbed our drinks and sat down. In a few minutes, they were bringing us the quesadilla and tacos - served with slices of lime and a salsa verde. The food was delicious, the salsa verde had a nice heat. The quesadilla had a little grease dripping as I ate it, making it feel more like homemade than purchased in a restaurant. The steak in the tacos was moist, flavorful. The staff was very friendly and patient while we looked over the menu at the counter to order. The restaurant was bright, with some televisions to watch, and a loudspeaker outside playing music to draw you in. We are looking forward to our next visit to La Cocina de la Abuela!

Updated review! Oh my holy heckfire. I still cannot believe that this restaurant - located literally connected to 7-11 - is as wonderful as it is. We have been here a handful of times and, every time, the food is out of this world. There are always Hispanic locals in and out like a turnstile, so you know it's authentic. What started out as a little old woman making food on a cooktop by herself has turned into a full-blown chow house, complete with a huge speaker out front flaunting Mexican music to pull you in. The door rings with a classic bell sound every time someone walks in or out. The sound of happy Spanish chatter amongst the guests is exhilarating. They have 5 tables and an eat-at long, table bar. They also have four TV's, which is a little excessive for such a small space, but you can't hear them anyway because of all of the noise. Their drink options consist of water and sodas (including Jarritos). We have ordered many things before, but today, we ordered 4 tacos (Cabeza, Pollo, Al Pastor, and Chorizo), and a Carne Asada smothered burrito. The food was made to order. No reheating of anything here. To-go service was fast and everyone thanked us on the way out. 10/10

Carne Asada, smothered in GREAT green sauce

Smothered burrito was great! I came to 7-11 yesterday (attached to Abuelas, and unusually loud music was playing here. I'm not sure the owners have quite gotten the culture here, but maybe that's part of the ambience. Regardless, this place was busy at 9 am. Lots of take-out breakfast burritos. I prefer lunch/dinner menu so wasn't sure what I'd get. I ended up with a carne asada (great rice and beans in perfect accompaniment) and smothered in an absolutely complimentary wonderful green sauce. I assumed Chile Verde, but got something clean, wonderful and initially I just thought "comfort food". $17.52 and I received a quarter from $18. (Female owner is the cook and covering the cash register). The guy was getting supplies and when he came in it seemed more welcoming. Regardless. I loved this place (prefer soda fountain, but maybe that will come in time!). Thank you!

Good points - friendly and fast Bad points - beef was so dry and such a small amount $3.75 wasted - had to throw away!

We visited the restaurant for lunch and ordered a vegetarian burrito and a carnitas burrito. The service was friendly and quick. Restaurant interior is bright and clean with a few tables and chairs. The menu has a wide variety of choices - breakfast items, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas and more! Good selection of bottled drinks - Coke, Jarritos, etc. Our burritos were large and had just the right amount of hot sauce. Do yourself a favor and visit Abuela's for some delicious food.

Tasty food, the burritos are big. To the cook only, Just careful with the beans and rice it had a little not noticeable smoky flavor.

False advertising right off the bat. On top of that, they can't show up on time. Both times I've waited on them, they rolled in hours late. One football Sunday they didn't even arrive until 2:40 PM... when games start around 11 AM. Not exactly a reliable partner for breweries trying to host customers. Now for the food: honestly, it's nothing like the pictures online. It comes out looking sloppy and unappetizing. Against our better judgment, my friends and I ordered anyway -- and all of us got sick. This wasn't a one-off either. Both times I ate from this truck, I got sick. That's a major red flag. The owners themselves are nice people, but the product and execution are unacceptable. At this point, the health department really needs to step in and inspect this truck because something isn't right. They also have a brick & mortar restaurant in Lone Tree, but after two bad experiences, I won't be going anywhere near it. If I see this truck at a brewery again, I'll be eating somewhere else.

Authentic, homemade, flavorful, inventive and delicious food! The owner, who stopped by our table to check on us and chat, is from Mexico City and brought all the flavors of Mexico to Colorado and I'm glad he did. Good food, good music, good service. Not sure what else you need?! On the small downside, yes it is a little more costly than other places. I think part of that is the location, Lone Tree being in a wealthier part of Douglas County. However, don't let that stop you from going, just plan accordingly.

Everything about the food and drinks was disappointing. The margaritas were bland and tasted like an orange slice. The menu was limited, and a lot of the entrees were gone. The guacamole was runny, and the salsa was bland. Of our three entrees, the only one that was at least warm was the fajitas, I suspect from the sizzling plate. The rice tasted like it was days old. I thought this place was solid when I got some food for to-go a while back. Ugh!! The only good thing was that we were seated right away upon arrival (it was probably because we were a small group of two people; when we arrived, there was one two-person table available; people with larger groups were waiting in the waiting area.) Our waiter was polite and pleasant and yet his attentiveness was bare minimum. Our food took such a long time before they came out of the kitchen. Whereas my bf's Avocado Tostada plate was decent (I didn't taste it; he said he liked it), my Baja Fish Taco was mediocre at best (the fish had barely any meat in it; it almost looked like a very thin chicken meat that was cooked with absolute stinginess!!) The only reason I am not giving them 1 star is because of the swift seating upon arrival and the harp player who performed for the mothers (as it was Mother's Day yesterday.) 25-minute drive on Parker Road from my northeast DTC home surely wasn't worth it; we could have gone to one of the nearby restaurants to satisfy our cravings for Mexican food instead.
