Best tacos around South Denver classic spot for me and my girl. Chips and guac/salsa also super tasty

i had the 3 flautas - one potato, one chicken, one beef. the tortilla was fried to perfection, the innards were maybe overcooked. i forgot which one was which. loved the 2 salsas that came with them, tho. The steak burrito was very good and flavorful and a decent size. Wasn't the biggest fan of the green chili smothered atop of the burrito; however, it was alright. It was a bit too sweet and tangy for my preference. The al pastor sope was very tasty, although they missed the pineapple i requested. I'd give the sope 5 stars, flautas 3.5 stars, & had I gotten a handheld burrito instead of a smothered one, I'd easily give it a 5 as well. my lunch date's al pastor burrito was good sized but was luke-warm and missing the pineapple he requested. he also ordered it with a green chili smother, which he didn't care for. The chili tasted sour, & he couldn't really determine the flavor (maybe lots of lime?), but it overpowered the flavor of the whole burrito. he well go back and try it again - definitely without their green chili. he also had a chili relleno which was very flavorful and average in size. the location is great with plenty of parking. the restaurant was fairly quiet, despite the time of day and number of patrons there. really nice staff. service felt slow, but we were famished, so that could be why. prices are rather palatable. The food was genuinely good and staff was friendly and attentive. However, I was disappointed when the owner tried to push his Christian Nationalist political views to my son and I. While everyone is entitled to their views, it affected my overall impression of the restaurant and my decision about whether to return. If you're judging solely on food quality, it's a strong choice. For me personally, the political aspect makes it difficult to fully support the business despite the great meal. read more

I went to another Mexican joint not too far from Sabroso and it was busy the menu was great but it wasn't a "sit down" restaurant so I left. I passed Sabroso on my way back to my hotel and popped in to an excellent food find. The dining area is great! Large and comfy, surely a good place to hang with friends. There's an outdoor area and I sat there. This is a walk up and order establishment and the young lady behind the counter was extremely helpful. I got the a plate of chips and guacamole and it was really good. The chips were house made, light and crunchy and the guacamole was delicious. I also got a huranches (I think that's how it's spelled) with carnitas and it was a delicious large portion. Let not forget the ginormous mango margarita. Wow that was one heck of a drink. This is not the best Mexican restaurant in town but that is not always everything people are looking for. It's casual enough where you can go and dine with an ease; a spacious dining room with friendly staff are other important elements we all want to see in a restaurant. And what's more, it has a spacious patio, a must have in the summer (warms months are around the corner, right?) This place checks out at least several of those elements. My to-to experience was more than good yesterday. Hence this review to express my gratitude. I wanted something light. The thought of having a crispy flautas (all of a sudden) hit me. I had reviewed this business on Yelp before yesterday's takeout experience so I knew about their great selection that includes the very dish I was eager to get. You have three to choose from: shredded beef or chicken or potato. But if you are greedy enough (like I was!!) to experience/taste all three, you can do so as the dish comes with 3 rolled tortilla flautas. Several condiments will accompany your main that are: crema, queso fresco, red and green salsa. You can add rice and beans with extra $3.95 (which I opted out; instead, I got a side guacamole for $1.95.) The lady upfront was so informative about the dish I ordered (she ensured that I'd get everything I'd need.) Her friendliness was emitting like a bright light from her smiley face. Service - top notch! It took about good 10+ minutes before my food came out from the kitchen and yet, I would say this is average. I was there when the restaurant only had one table occupied. A dish like flautas does take time as they have to be deep fried to the crispiest. I wasn't in a hurry (thank goodness.) Once I got back to my car, I started to savor my food. Whereas the chicken was a bit disappointing as it was a bit chewy, the potato (this was my favorite out of the three) and the beef were pretty good but most of all, the crispy corn tortilla was so crunchy. Fast Mexican place in the neighborhood with lots of seating and a fun environment offering sports of every sort on four different screens! Large dining space and order up counter expedite your meal, but it doesn't take away from the freshness. My husband had the steak and Al Pastor tacos and love them both, but when asked if he had to choose, he would go with the beef. He ordered a beef sope I just found it to be forgettable and underseasoned. I had the veggie tacos and they were nothing exceptional, but nothing awful either. They were basic with black beans as the base and I really like the tortillas. I had a mango strawberry margarita which was nice and my husband loved his Horchata. The salsa was almost an upgrade from a jar, but the chips & guacamole was quite delicious and fresh. Came here on the recommendations of a few friends and definitely enjoyed our experience! This place is perfect if you've ever wanted dinner and an unsolicited political/religious intervention in the same sitting. While waiting for our food, the owner/manager approached my younger brother and casually asked if he was voting in the election. My brother said yes, he's registered and has voted before. Naturally, instead of leaving it there like a normal human interaction, this man launched into telling him who he should support politically. We politely explained that candidate doesn't align with our values. Big mistake. What followed was apparently the bonus round: an interrogation about our religious beliefs. When we said we weren't religious, this grown man audibly gasped like he'd just discovered we sacrifice goats under a full moon, then proceeded to mimic the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit at us in the middle of the restaurant. And yes -- our food still hadn't arrived. Then came the nationality questions. Since we're Hispanic, he decided to ask where we were from, and somehow landed on telling us to "go back to our country" because we "don't love America." Wild strategy considering we were literally standing there paying customers and U.S. citizens. Honestly, the employees looked mortified. I even caught a few silent "yikes" nods from staff during the interaction. So if you're looking for tortas with a side of political campaigning, religious judgment, and xenophobia, this is your spot. Which is unfortunate, because the tortas were absolutely fire. They will be deeply missed. We, however, will not be returning. read more

They have moved across the parking lot to a bigger space. It used to be a Tokyo Joe's. The remodeling they did look awesome. Lots of seating and also the patio seating. Definitely 4 stars for ambiance. I got the smothered breakfast burritos with potatoes to go. I wanted loaded with sour cream and green chili. Tips: 1: skip the sour cream. That sourness is not good. 2: no lettuce. It was topped with leafy lettuces which kept getting stuck on the roof of your mouth. Very annoying experience. I thought everyone was using the icebergs. It's not a good experience. 3. Ask for hot sauce. There was not much flavor or heat. Food: 3 stars at best for my smothered breakfast burritos. Ambiance: definitely 4 stars. Employees: 5 stars. This restaurant has so much heart, from the food to the service! Much of its food is exceptional as it left me wanting more. I had ordered the Birria plate. Let me tell you, this is probably one of the best Birria I have EVER had period! My fiancé order the tacos plate and that too was phenomenal. Went here on a Sat morning with a party of other 4 people. Sampled several items, found everything tasty. Portion sizes were huge too. Ordered a quesadilla, huarache, smothered burrito, burrito, bowl and FSOJ What I loved was the freshness of food. Memorable for me is the spiced pineapple chunks they serve as side with some items. I've probably been here a dozen times or so over the past few years (old and new locations) and have always gotten the same thing - Huarache with Grilled Chicken (and extra cilantro and onions). Love it! It's a thick, oval shaped corn tortilla topped with beans (black or pinto), crema, queso fresco, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, and onion and comes with red and green salsa. After ordering - we noticed the manager person wasn't wearing a mask (and maybe influenced by ex-liar in chief as she was wearing maga shirt). This disdain for basic health precautions may extend past the pandemic. If you won't wear a mask to stop a deadly pandemic - why wash your hands to prevent norovirus? I'm trying to find the best street tacos in the south of Colorado. The 4 plate tacos is a good deal. I tried the steak and pastor. Steak had good flavors but was overcooked for me, the pastor was amazing. But the tacos were overwhelmed with the onions, there was too much and not enough pineapples on the pastor. The red and green salsas were okay- not the best or spicy in my opinions. The side of chili cheese fries was a lot bigger than expected, super crispy and filling! Just wished I had some picked jalapeño to top it off. The place looked very clean and there is plenty of seating. To my surprise the place was empty. It's fast casual place for tacos kinda vibes. I ordered to go for lunch, so the service was fast and easy since I called ahead, did not have to wait for my food to be packed or anything. Will be back since it's down the street. read more

Since moving nearby, Sabroso has quickly become a go-to spot for us to fulfill any and all Mexican cravings. From burritos (both breakfast and lunch) to tortas and huaraches, everything has hit the spot. Because everyone's always looking for solid breakfast burritos, I will rave about those for a second. They're available all day and come in a few different combos. We tried chorizo and egg and really enjoyed it! They're $5.75 and really hearty. I didn't even finish the full thing and was full for hours. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered a huarache for lunch. Simply, I would think of it like a Mexican pizza or arepa. It's a thick tortilla topped with beans, crema, queso fresco, lettuce, tomato, chile and in my case, shredded beef. Really solid, too. There's seating both inside and out; however, I usually opt to call ahead of time and take it to go. Everything is usually ready within ten minutes. It's located within a cramped parking lot but I've never had a problem finding a spot. read more

This place used to be great - after they moved the lady at the front in the evening got incredibly rude. I've been coming here for three years between 2-4 times a month (it's within walking distance so it's easy and great food) and was excited to see they moved to a larger location still near me. However i have reduced my visits to about once a month because of the rudeness. The last 4 times have been the worst -- two times could just be a bad day but the last two confirms it's more than that. What I mean by Rudeness is the general vibe on how orders are taken in a terse manner and served as though I've inconvenienced them - or, in other instances, refusing to make something (could be justified due to it being later such as not wanting to make fresh orange juice at 7pm and they already cleaned the machine) or forcing me to sit outside when there were no issues with the tables inside during peak dinner hours (5pm... ? Laziness on not wanting to clean tables for closing?) but doing so in a rather rude way. I'd rather drive a short distance and get much better service. Also don't sit outside in the summer - the trees have bugs that will drop on you as you eat your food. The inside is great but the service in the evening makes this a no-go for me. read more

Out and about running errands, my husband and I found our tummies grumbling. Having driven past Sabroso a million times, we decided to stop in for a breakfast burrito. COVID has changed all the rules, so simply call the number out front to place an order and they will bring it out front. However, you can now place an order at the counter if wearing a mask! We chose to nosh on two different loaded breakfast burritos, one featuring egg, cheese, potatoes, green chili and bacon, while the second had chorizo. Both were HUGE for the $5 price tag, filled to the brim with fixins' and totally hit the spot. In fact, we had leftovers for the next day! After a morning tee time, we opted to try items off their lunch menu, which did not disappoint! We ordered the chicken quesadilla, which was loaded with grilled chicken and cheese, along with the nachos - with black beans. Everything came out quickly, was massive in portion and absolutely delicious! Also available - to go margaritas! we ordered the house margs to go, which totally hit the spot. Came here looking for a cheap but satisfying vegan lunch option and I have to say I was mostly pleased. It's definitely a nice looking fast food Mexican place. Their signage is very appetizing and inviting. Service wasn't as quick as you'd expect it to be but it wasn't a terrible wait. I ordered the black bean mollete w/o cheese because I'm cheap lol. It's an open-faced sandwich with refried black beans, pico de gallo and avocado on top with a cup of salsa. Super simple but effective. At first glance it doesn't look like much but it was surprisingly filling - and HOT. I don't have much tolerance for spice so I probably won't order this again, but if you like your Mexican food with a little kick then this is the place for you! read more
