I almost don't want to post about this place because it still feels like one of those hidden neighborhood gems you stumble into by accident and then never stop going back to. You can tell the people here truly care about both the food and the experience. The patio is easily one of the best parts. It's relaxed, comfortable, and perfect for hanging out over margaritas and chips on a nice evening. Somehow this place still flies under the radar, which is wild considering how consistently good everything is. And the green chile? Seriously incredible. Rich, flavorful, perfectly balanced heat, and good enough to put on absolutely everything. You can tell it's homemade and done right. Every dish we tried tasted fresh, comforting, and packed with flavor. What really made the experience stand out, though, was the service. Everyone treated us like regulars even on our first visit. A summer day in June my family and I stumbled upon El Senor Sol! I walked in and a wave of deliciousness hit me, but the room was so dark I immediately stubbed my toe. I was extremely concerned because NO ONE was in the restaurant, RED FLAG. (This awkward space is supposed to be a red flag emoji but it wouldn't post.) I was throughly enjoying my Dr. Pepper until the gut wrenching and atrocious smell brewing from the cup crawled up my nostrils and smacked me in the face. Getting a bite of cheese in my quesadilla was quite the task it was like finding a needle in a haystack. The icing on the cake was my brother being too scared to order a corn dog from this Mexican restaurant because of the picture shown on the menu (update I think the menu changed but I am still scarred.) DIGUSTING, absolutely DISGUSTING. First, their " salsa " is onion water, period. Second, they charge for SODA REFILLS!!!! But do NOT tell you that!!! $9 for my one soda?!?! Third, they CHARGE YOU EXTRA to pay with a CREDIT CARD!!!! So our 2 entrees and 1 soda= $50 . Had to REPETEDLY flag down the server. Then had MASSIVE diarrhea, 15 minutes after leaving. We were glad to see that this place recently re-opened after being closed for a couple of years. We decided to give it a try since we had eaten there before the closure. We ordered and paid at the counter and ran an errand, letting them know we would return to pick up our takeout order. We thought that our order would be ready after the errand but it was not and we waited for over 20 minutes. When we got home the rice & beans were missing from my fish tacos. However, I was charged an extra $2.99 for them. The fish was little rubbery nuggets, unbreaded and with a side of shredded lettuce & lime. No flavor and not what I've ever had with fish tacos. My husband's Mexican burger did not have any beans. The meat was overcooked and had no flavor. My bill was $50.00 for Mexican food that was not very good (tacos, rice/beans, Mexican burger and a side of quacamole). I even had included a tip. Since we live close by, I went back and let them know the rice and beans were not with my order and that there were no beans in the Mexican burger. They gave me the side of rice with extra beans. Beans were kinda bland. The menus were worn, not new like the renovated restaurant which looks plain & unfestive. There are some televisions but I think music would be a better choice. There were two cooks, one lady taking orders at the counter and a man, the owner?, waiting tables and a bartender. It looked like a busy night but they didn't have enough help. I gave this review 2 stars because the lady at the counter was nice and offered a refund for beans/rice and to make another Mexican burger at no charge, both I declined. Somehow managed to forget to get a picture of the food since it was devoured so quick. The drinks are alittle pricey but worth it. We come here quite frequently and every time the service is so friendly and caring. This little family joint works so hard to make sure you have a great experience. They have a small outside seating area in the back that is great during warm days. I would recommend either the enchiladas or the steak burrito. read more

We ordered food from Senor Sol through Door Dash. We have enjoyed the restaurant and the food is a reasonable option in south Denver: not great but not bad either. We called the restaurant to ask who we could speak to regarding a Door Dash order that was missing an entree. The attendee who answered could be heard in the background asking for a manager, then we heard the click of the receiver hitting the cradle as we were hung up on. Considering it a mistake, we called back: no answer. Called back again and our number was blocked. We understand that restaurants are still trying to figure out how to participate in the gig economy with places like Door Dash, GrubHub and PostMates and mistakes are made. But to operate as if ignoring the problems is the answer is a certain way to lose customers. After multiple trips to El Senor Sol, this is our last. We have no interest in patronizing a business that treats its customers as commodities. read more

Ordered two "medium" margaritas and should have asked when there were no prices on the menu (my bad). $20 each...they were ok but nothing great. yikes! Then got bill and we were charged $1.95 for extra salsa??? Im talking the little half cup dishes of salsa. Ive never heard if a charge for salsa when they bring you chips? (First cup must have been free). Would have been nice to have mentioned it? Our favorite dishes are chicken enchiladas with green sauce, queso burrito, tacos, flautas and sopapillas with either shredded beef, chicken or black beans. Such authentic Mexican food with fresh ingredients it's to DIE for! I ordered the Molcajate with the special sauce on the side without cheese which was absolutely amazing! Everything in it was delicious. And it came with a special side of beans called Frijoles charros that was the best beans I've ever had and I don't even like beans lol! The special sauce is pretty spicy so if you are sensitive I would get it on the side. It's absolutely delicious! My mom ordered the Posole which was authentic, served with amazing flavor and was not greasy. It comes with cabbage, onions, and cilantro on the side and has authentic pork served with the bone inside of the soup. And the salsa that came with the chips was handmade, and so fresh! Love the authentic atmosphere and Mexican music playing in the background. It just felt so homey! I'm so full now and so happy I finally found a place with amazing authentic Mexican food! We placed an order for four dozen tamales to be picked up on Christmas Eve 3 weeks ago. they said to call at 11:00 and they would let us know when they will be ready. they are not open today and there is no sign on the door. they will never get another penny from me, my friends or my family. This was the worst mexican food I have ever had. Started with the salsa, I think it was Pace, from a jar. Tasted like tomato, no spice, no real flavor. I just ordered nachos, easy right, hard to screw up. They came with something un describable on top that Was some kind of meat. Again, no flavor, added loads of hot sauce, but still...flavorless.
