First time here. Came on a Friday for lunch. The parking lot is large, so no problem finding a spot. We were welcomed in and seated. I was distracted by the person behind glass making the wonderful fresh tortillas. As homebrewers, my husband and I were interested in what their brew set up looked like. It was behind glass and visible from where we were seated. Always neat to see how a brewery is set up, no two are the same. Dulce took care of us. We started with chips and salsa. The chips were warm and the salsa was fresh with a nice kick. He got a taco plate with ground beef tacos, rice and beans. He paired that with the LDP IPA. He enjoyed his meal. I love Chile Rellenos, so that is what I chose for my lunch. It came smothered with their green chili and with some of those wonderful warm tortillas on the side. I paired mine with their Aqua Fresca, a slightly altered base of their Mexican Lager with the addition of Prickly Pear purée and Key Lime. It was refreshing and tasted like summer. Terrible service, especially before the dinner rush. We ordered a molcajete, didn't receive tortillas till 10 minutes later. My friend asked for one special modification for her drink, "salt on the rim" and that wasn't followed. Food took forever. And in the molcajete had a giant blob of cheese that previously was at the bottom, easily making it easy to eat the meat. Instead it was like fishing the meat out from the stranger things world of cheese. $69 for terrible service and not even an alcoholic beverage. I will be asking for a refund tomorrow. The service is excellent, the Ambiance is as if you are South of the Border and our food was good. We ordered the Menudo, after taking a couple of bites we added the accompanying spices the Menudo tasted good. We are going to have to come back and sample the diner menu. read more

Service and ambiance were great, but the food was not up to snuff. The meat for the beef fajitas was just gristle. My husband couldn't eat it and returned it - something he never does. The waiter said they changed their meat supplier a few weeks ago and have had many complaints. Very disappointing, and we won't go back. read more

Had our first visit to Los Dos Potrillos and a bit on the fence. The staff is incredibly friendly and the building/views are beautiful! It's so nice, bright, and comfortable. I really liked getting to see their brewery set up as well. The food was just ok- I ordered the taquitos and my husband ordered some tacos. The chips and salsa were tasty. I ordered combo taquitos and they didn't come out correctly, but the staff was really great about fixing it for me. The taquitos were nice and crispy and I like that they came with green chili for dipping. My main concern was that the meat didn't have much flavor- not wrong per se, just not great. My husband felt the same about his tacos. I'm willing to come back and try something else on the menu as some things were pretty good but I don't know that I'd go out of my way to eat here. read more

The other restaurant locations are in Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Parker & Denver. This is a family run business where everything is made from scratch. The restaurant was named after his (Jose Ramirez) two sons, it means two young horses. This lively restaurant is beautifully decorated with high ceilings & fantastic views. However, the place was very loud, it was difficult to hear one another in conversation. This restaurant even has an on-site brewery! Plus plenty of parking. We started with complimentary chips & salsa. The chips were good but need salt & the salsa was delicious. I had the combo #10 that included three items & I added a couple of tortillas to the meal for $2. The crispy Chile Relleno was cheesy & really crisp, it had a wonderful sauce. It was outstanding & my favorite. The smothered Beef & Bean Burrito was very good as well. The Cheese Enchilada was good, however I thought the sauce was too tomatoey. Excellent date night spot. It was a bit too loud out where we were seated but it got quieter when the crying screaming kids left. It was busy for a Tuesday but we didn't mind waiting half an hour to get seated. The hostess at the front was very welcoming and nice and so was our server. Second time to this location after the first time soon after their opening wasn't so good. It's a little crazy that they seem to always be busy. We showed up before 5 on a Saturday, and there was already a 30 min wait. We managed to find two seats at the bar, so we just did that rather than wait for a table. Service at the bar was a little hit or miss. We eventually ordered our drinks. I liked both porters, so I went with the Piper's, but could've gotten the coffee, while my daughter had a strawberry margarita. Beer was good; she liked her marg but wasn't sure it had much alcohol in it. We each got the combo chicken and steak fajitas, which were fairly large and very good. Tortillas and guacamole are good, but rice and beans are just fair. We were seated right away, and the service was friendly and efficient. The chips and salsa were next-level -- hands down, some of the best restaurant chips and salsa I've ever had. Crispy, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. My brother had visited the month before and couldn't stop raving about the molcajete. He insisted we all order it, and I'm so glad we did. When I tell you this is one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever tasted, I'm not exaggerating. The cheese was unreal -- gooey, flavorful, and absolutely mouthwatering. The rock bowl was boiling hot from start to finish, keeping every bite warm and delicious. It felt like there was an endless amount of meat and food packed into that bowl. The portion is huge -- you could easily have leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day. On top of the amazing food, the view was stunning, adding to the overall experience. There are a few Los Dos locations around the south Denver suburbs that range from old school tex-mex decor, to a more modern trendy location in High Lands Ranch, to the even more upscale micro brewery location here in Castle Rock. FANTASTIC flavors. Possibly the best salsa in town ( no offence Santiago's - I still love your salsa!) . A warning to Texans and midwesterners- the flavors may be a bit spicy for you- maybe you can ask for mild or something. I wish there was a locals discount because we go here too often now. I feel like it's a point of pride now that two Mexican upscale restaurants can operate just across the street from each other. Great views, great place to take visitors from out of town. I just love this place. Unusually good service here ranking at levels you normally only see in the South East of the U.S. If you have not picked up on the fact that Colorado cuisine is Mexican with a heavy use of Green Chili - maybe you should move back to Iowa. I want to be fair and love this place. But I didn't. The server Louisa was nice and their customer service manager came around to check on people. But the service time is a little long. The restaurant has a great view and the enclosed patio was lovely to sit in. After much debate, I decided to order the ceviche and she went with quesadillas. She changed her mind last minute and got steak instead of cheese. She regretted the choice as the steak was fatty and chewy. Yuck. My ceviche was fine. And the original skinny margarita strong and good. She wanted to try the place and we have. We won't be back. La Loma is a better option for the price. Restrooms were fine. Parking was fine. It can get crowded so come early or be prepared to wait. They don't take reservations. In fact, no one answers the phone when you call. Absolutely wonderful. We had an 80th birthday party for my Mother at the Denver location. From reserving the back room space with Arturo, to the day of the party and being served by Carlos and the team, the day will be very memorable for many years. Serving 30 people at one time is not easy, but the Los Dos team made it seem effortless with all of the meals being hot and tasty. Los Dos Potrillos has a nice modern atmosphere, decent beer they brew on premise, and a large closable deck with a great view of the front range. The food was below average. I was excited to get a traditional fried Chili Relleno. I assume it had been fried at some point but it can out sogy and cold. The cheese was a solid glob wrapped in a relleno smothered in salsa. The bean and rice were good, but I never got over the disappointment from reheated food. Service was friendly, and the generous queso bowl was solid. This place is pretty good, this location is beautiful. I have been to the location in Parker as well, both are insanely busy! We went on a Friday night and waited about 15 minutes for a table, which wasn't a bad wait time. I got really excited when I saw the passion fruit beer on the list. I would recommend it to everyone, it was fruity and delicious. I'm pretty basic and got the cheese enchiladas, the sauce was very good and they put chopped onions, which added a great flavor. Beautiful new additional location to the Los Dos Potrillos franchise. This location has stunning views with indoor patio and outdoor patio. The food was also spot on delicious. I love Fridays and Saturdays at Los Dos because their Carnitas are available. The bartender makes a great skinny margarita. The servers are also friendly. The service was a bit slow, and we had to ask for silverware, so this hindered the 5 stars rating. The hostess sarcastically said, "Oops, didn't see that there," as she walked away and all while a group of staff from the front followed us and stood there watching and laughing. It was humiliating and incredibly unprofessional. We were made to feel like an inconvenience for walking in nearly an hour before closing. Beautiful and large restaurant with huge glass windows overlooking CR to the West. The top shelf margaritas were very good. I had a beer made by Launchpad. My wife enjoyed the terrific enchiladas verdes. I enjoyed one of them too. I had the Chile Relleno taco combination plate. It was OK. It might have been better. The rellenos were the soft type, which is what I grew up on. I always try to get them soft not rolled & fried like a chimichanga. The sauce was delicious and I might have liked the rellenos better had they been hot. I think they are premade and the insides were not very warm and were like a patty of cheese. I didn't complain. So I would just recommend ordering them well done! read more

I'm so glad I decided to dine here on late Friday afternoon, before the dinner crowd arrived. I've been wanting to dine here since they opened. I heard from many that the wait times are long. They've been open a few months now. I was a walk-in and didn't make a reservation. I probably waited about 5 minutes for them to clear a table. I sat next to the dining room area that overlooks Promenade Pkwy. The views are stunning, from what I could see at my table. My waiter was Paul and he was great! Paul had a smile on his face the whole time and just had an overall good attitude. So nice to see someone who enjoys their job and has a good attitude, especially in a restaurant setting. The interior of this restaurant is classy and has a nice warm feel to it. I love the large metal chandeliers in the main dining area. I love how the bar area is decorated as well. It didn't take long to have chips and salsa served to me along with a carafe of water. Salsa seems homemade and is phenomenal! I felt they nailed the salsa. For my entree I ordered the steak fajitas. I was impressed with how quickly my food arrived. Paul told me that the kitchen has a lot of staff that works hard to get food out to patrons quickly. Steak was really good with the fajitas. They give you plenty of it. I especially loved how they provide plenty of onions with it as well. Flour tortillas rocked too! Overall, very impressive here! My love languages are tacos, beer and french fries. But I am willing to sub for tacos, tequila and chips. Anything new that opens in the south suburban area is going to have a great buzz. So if you venture here in the next 90 days, try to exercise some patience with that appetite and curiosity. We braved a Saturday night and yes, it was the much anticipated and expected wait time of over two hours. Was it worth it? You bet. It's why I am penning this review. After being only open a week, I gotta hand it to the staff at Los Dos Potrillos. Every staff member, from Garrett the host to Ben the bar lead with his crew of Leah, Josh and the bar backs, they all kept their composure despite the swarm of anxious and thirsty hangry patrons. Perhaps that's why they have such a following. Or why they have so many locations. But this is my favorite one. I love the clean minimalist decor. The two horse heads apparently represent the sons. I like that it wasn't an overkill of Mexican or Spanish theme. The bar area is much larger than their other locations and the wrap around patio will be enticing and inviting come spring and sundress weather. Fantastic drink menu and the house margarita does not disappoint. Apparently the only thing I photographed. Definitely a fan of the chips and house salsa. Finally, a place that serves one that isn't mild or bland. Had the tacos al carbon and also street tacos with half steak and half adobada. Will be back for the molcajete, green chile, pozole and dessert. Here's why it is one star short. The tableside guacamole was not prepared tableside. It lacked flavor in both salt and spice. And it was served up with the crankiest grunt. He's the anomaly to the rest of the team and needs to learn to be a team player. Also fair warning, if you end up waiting, you will end up leaving smelling like garlicky charred onions. I had to do an entire load of laundry of my dinner outfit to rid of the scent. I came. I saw. I've dined at Los Dos Portillos before and had a great experience, but the Castle Rock location was a major disappointment. I ordered the carne asada, which was dry and completely lacking in flavor. On a more positive note, the queso was delicious. However, we quickly ran out of chips and salsa. Our waitress asked if we wanted more, and we said yes. We had just received the queso and needed something to enjoy it with. Unfortunately, we waited a very long time with no sign of our server. We eventually had to flag down another staff member to ask where she had gone. Other nearby tables even noticed how long we had been waiting. By the time our waitress finally returned, we had already finished our meal. I asked if we could get the chips and salsa to go, since we never got the refill. She said okay, but then attempted to charge us an extra $15 for it. I explained that it didn't feel right to pay extra when she hadn't returned to refill them in the first place. She said she'd check with her manager, but we never got to speak with the manager directly. She removed the charge but ultimately sent us home without the chips and salsa. To top it all off, I didn't even finish my carne asada it was that bad. read more

Once we were seated we ordered the patron tower and I went with the tacos Al carbon and the rest of our table had the steak fajitas. Our server was GREAT - so friendly and funny. Great addition to Castle rock! Kid friendly, great view, awesome margaritas. Went on Sunday after church, 1 hour wait but that was expected- so we put our name in and went shopping at Sierra while we waited for a text. My favorites- the Mercedes margarita- $26 because it has 1942 - lime & agave - so clean and so dangerously good- Also the Table side guacamole- best guac I've had ever- And I've eaten a lot of guac by the spoonful while pregnant... We went not spicy for the guac so the kids could share and it was fun to watch the server make it. The bowl was huge but the 4 of us managed to eat all of it. Last fav the molcajete- cheese, charred catcus , steak and shrimp all bubbly together with slight spicy goodness in a volcano bowl... sooooo good. My son got the chicken quesadilla and the chicken itself was so tasty and flavorful. It was really big too. My daughter had a cheeseburger and fries - great choice for a non Mexican food loving kid. Bonus was crayons to color for her. I had the steak fajitas- they were ok- the steak was a little fatty and could use more flavor- I like La loma's better. But the price here is way better. The refried beans were delicious and the onions and peppers. Our server was very busy but very kind and always kept an eye out for us even though he was running around. I can't wait to go back. It was a busy night so we definitely gave them some grace. We were told 45 min and were seated in just over 30. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer. The appetizer came out relatively fast (although I'm pretty sure we received the table next to us because they order first and ours came out first) the drinks were very slow. We got the peach margarita first and would not order that again.. the tequila was kerosene. The chili relleno nachos were the best part of the meal and were very good! Our meals came next... the fish/shrimp tacos were good. The seafood tasted fresh. There was good amount of seafood as well. Lacked a bit of flavor but they were okay. The enchilada was nothing special and the chicken was pretty flavorless. The taco was a premade shell and the ground beef was not good in our opinion. The chili relleno was of course tasty. Midway through the meal the other margarita arrived and it was good. The server was friendly and helpful and as quick as she could be (4 tables sat at the same time) considering the delay at the bar (which was also packed with people waiting). Loved the interior and the patio area where we sat had roll up windows that I imagine is wonderful when it's not snowy. First thing, this place gets BUSY but looks huge so not sure how long people were waiting by the time we left. We did the margarita flight and the strawberry basil one was our favorite. We sat at the bar and watched them prepping fresh fruit for all of their drinks which was awesome! Everyone was so attentive and nice and giving great recommendations. The salsa was spicy so just a heads up. The queso was so delicious and a huge bowl of it which was refreshing! I got the ribeye and shrimp. The server made sure to tell me the ribeye is usually spicy and they could make it mild. Thank goodness and it was really good! I got it medium rare and I'd say it came out rare at first. We weren't in a hurry and knew the meat was going to be good regardless so I asked them to cook mine a little longer. They were so nice about it! It came out perfect after they cooked it a little longer. My husband got the carne en su jugo which was a beef stew of some sort. It was way too spicy for me but my husband loved it and it was a huge portion! We will totally be back to try so many other things on menu including drinks and way more queso!
