A hidden gem! You must try this restaurant - the food, the atmosphere, and the staff were excellent. I always judge a good Mex restaurant by its burrito - and Los Carboncitos passed with flying colors! Delicious green chili, and I'm betting their corn tortillas are made from scratch...so good! The decor was very nice - brick with rustic accents - and the soft leather chairs are VERY comfortable. There are two fireplaces - one inside and another outside on the patio. (I will be back on a brisk day to sit out there). The staff was so attentive and offered some great suggestions. Happy Hour every day starting 2pm and a great deal! The margs are delicious and freshly made (not from a mixer). If you've been thinking about dining here, but haven't yet... DO IT! read more

the restaurant is in a great location, there is plenty of parking, and the restaurant was quite. it was very clean and nicely appointed. The menu was underwhelming. Typically we like to try several dishes, so you would hope for a combination of any type, and they do not offer such. the service was slow despite how quiet the restaurant was. i ordered crispy rellenos, my date had the huarache. The server talked him out of the green chili topping, and after the fact, he was really disappointed that she had, because it was the most boring dish he's ever had. my rellenos were not so! relleno means "filled" or "stuffed" and these were scantily clad at best. the flavor was unique and quite appetizing, nonetheless. we did enjoy the thimble-sized teasers of 4 salsas that accompanied the chips & salsa, but yer charging 3% for using a credit card, the least you can do is pony up on the samples! we are glad that we finally tried this place, but we will not return and don't recommend it. you can get a lot more bang for your buck at el parral, las potrancas, los dos potrillos, venalonzos, etc. read more

We were at Walmart and we thought we would give it a try. Very clean restaurant and they have a very friendly staff and great service The first thing we noticed were the prices which were considerably higher than we expected. Salsa's were good and 2 were very hot. Chips were ok. We spoke to our waiter and he said the food was based out of Mexico City. The Relleno's were delicious. I preferred the soft style VS the crispy one though. Refried beans and rice were both made in house perfectly. I would consider this a high end Mexican food restaurant. Trying to make it in a low cost market will be a challenge. I just hope they make it. Thanks Joshua, our waiter, you did a great job. read more

Ate here for an early lunch, and honestly, the food and drinks were great. Unfortunately, while we were sitting there, a swarm of flies started coming at us, and then we saw a mouse run right by our feet under the table. We immediately told the manager, but he honestly acted like he didn't really care, which was pretty disappointing. As we were paying, the mouse actually ran back out by our feet again. We asked our server if the bill could be comped because of the situation, and she only took off my $9 glass of wine. The food and drinks were great, but seeing a mouse running around while you're eating is extremely concerning and makes me question the cleanliness and health-code standards of the restaurant. Especially considering the prices they charge, I don't think anyone should have to deal with flies swarming around them or a mouse running by their feet during a meal. read more

Service was pretty slow, food was kinda blah. Seemed like not a lot of effort was put into it. Had the chicken enchiladas, corn tortillas with barely flavored chicken, red sauce that really was just tomato puree, cojita cheese on top. Edible but nothing to get excited about. Wife had the Gordita which she said was good and a barbacoa taco that she could not eat, not edible. If this restaurant is going to make it probably need to get a new chef and more wait staff. Improve the food and people will come. read more

The restaurant is very pretty, really large also. Service was friendly, she really hyped up the authentic food. I ordered sopes, and my son got a beef. burrito. The meat in the burrito tasted bad, like rancid. Was not good. My sopes were flavorless. We also got horchata and I could tell it was from a package. Very disappointed. read more

My husband and I love Mexican cuisine and were excited to try this new restaurant in Lone Tree. We went on a Sunday after church. The restaurant is very lovely. It wasn't exceptionally busy when we first arrived, but got busier as we were there. We opted to sit in a booth in the bar area so we could watch some sports on tv. Service was quick and efficient. The young female server was very nice. I got a Barbacoa Burrito smothered with green chile. My husband got some Carna asada street tacos which came with beans and rice. I also got a house margarita and my husband had a Mexican lager. Food arrived fairly quickly. The Barbacoa in my burrito was very tender, and seasoned nicely, the only negative was it was pretty fatty.and that was kinda a turnoff. My husband's meal was pretty good but he said he prefers Little George's or Los Dos Portillos over this. They just recently opened so taking that into consideration when rating. It wasn't so bad we wouldn't not return but hoping when we do it's somewhat improved. read more

This is a new restaurant in Highlands Ranch and I need to ask everyone who reads this to PLEASE go and eat at this restaurant. This was an amazing experience! We are from San Diego, California and this is the only place we have found in Colorado that has authentic Mexican food!!!!! The carne asada is on point, really good flour and corn tortillas. The green chili sauce is not the typical green of the Colorado version, but the flavor is on point and it is genuinely spicy. They also have 5 salsas. The mild red tomato based sauce they serve with their excellent chips. 2 tomatilla sauces, one spicy and one mild. Plus 2 more salsas, one peanut based that is as creamy as it is spicy and another really spicy chili based sauce that is as oily as it is spicy and it is the real deal! No gringo spicy nonscense. Your scalp will be sweating. Great spot, great people, great food! Please, please go and eat at this restaurant so they can survive so I can go there again and relive the San Diego/TJ experience! A+++++!! read more

We were greeted immediately when we entered for lunch. The hostess took us to our booth. Then another individual put five salsas with chips on the table. Unfortunately, he, nor our waitress, told us which was which salsa, mild or hot. We tried the fajita steak burrito and a few tacos. I will say, I was impressed that they did give me 1/2 lime for the tacos, most places usually give you a much smaller piece. Regrettably, that was the only impressive part of the meal. Service pretty much matched the meal - mediocre and lacking. read more

Why is my skinny margarita bright yellow??? I stopped in for a skinny margarita. It took over 30 mins to get a margarita and I got one finally and it tasted like straight lime juice. I then asked them to remake it and it took 5 of them to try and remake it. They didn't have any of the great ingredients going into the margarita. This place does not know how to make a simple skinny margarita lol. They also charged me for it before I even got it. lol. This place is a joke. On the border was better across the street. read more

So our neighbor and my husband and I went to eat lunch at this ever so delicious restaurant!!! The staff were exceptional and always checking on us to make sure everything was ok. But the food was the best ever in all of Colorado!!! My husband and our neighbors all like Spivey and boy they got spicey. I can't do spicey so I got the bestest ever quesadillas in the world. I'm actually taking my four friends here cuz they love Mexican food and are wanting to try it. The restaurant is located right across Sam's club so the location is excellent. Everyone that was eating in the restaurant seemed very happy with their food. If you like Mexican food this restaurant is truly a definite go to and try it as you will not be disappointed!! read more

I unfortunately had to come back and update my review from a 5-star to 2-star. While the food is still pretty good, there were countless issues with the service on our last visit. Though they've been open for almost or over a year, they still don't have draft beer even though it's listed on the menu. The restaurant was HOT, like sweating through our clothes hot. So much so that we found ourselves wrapping up the meal just to get out of there. They charge you extra now for baskets of chips (even when you order something like guac or queso). And not like 99 cents, $4. Plus, you almost never see your server even though the place is relatively empty. The staff working during this visit was extremely dismissive and you have to flag people down for things like water refills and silverware. Super disappointed. read more

Chips and salsa were good. Overall, the food was decent. The service was way off. We had to ask for everything including water refills. Maybe 8 people in the restaurant and it took a long time to get our food. It's too bad because the green chili is really good! read more

I've been to this location as well as the downtown Denver location. The food is just not that great, unfortunately. Chips and salsa and a glass of water were served promptly. The restaurant was about 1/3 full. It is a bit noisy and echoing. My server asked if I would like a drink and I ordered a margarita. I waited about 15 minutes and flagged my server asking where my margarita was and then it arrived. It was OK and I decided the items on the menu did not look like something. I would like to eat so I closed out my tab with a fair tip. The server had quite a heavy accent and was difficult to communicate with. I think she was very confused and perhaps disappointed that I did not want to eat there. Overall, this is a very clean restaurant, noisy, and a bit pricey for what they are offering. read more

Had our first visit to Los Carboncitos and I'm on the fence if we will be back or not. The atmosphere was really nice, margaritas and agua frescas were delicious and we appreciated the variety of salsas- especially enjoyed the green ones. There were loads of items on the menu we were wanting to try but we went fairly standard for the first visit- we got the carne asada and shredded beef enchiladas. We enjoyed the side salads- simply dressed and tasty. My husband thought his was ok if a little overcooked. Unfortunately my enchiladas were ice cold when they came out even though the plate was warm. They offered to remake it but it took even longer than the initial order. It was warm but I still wouldn't call it hot. You can see from the picture a lot of the cheese still isn't melted on the redo. Even with the remake, I wouldn't call the sauce great- it actually more closely resembled a pasta sauce than an enchilada sauce. Although our server was very nice and I especially appreciated that she is bilingual, it seemed like she may have been juggling too many tables and she didn't seem to have much time to check on us. Overall, a pretty meh experience. Although I'm willing to give it another go with a different menu item (everyone has an off day every now and again), I won't be going out of my way for another visit. read more

Tonight we had dinner at Los Carboncitos, it is in the same parking lot as Sam's Club. It was fantastic! It is not the typical Mexican restaurant, authentic Mexican, they use manchego cheese, homemade flour and corn tortillas, fresh ingredients, large portions, meat was great cuts of steak, chicken, and carnitas. We had the chicken tacos, steak and carnitas fajitas, salmon tortilla, cactus queso, green chili, key lime pie, and several drinks. We were celebrating a birthday. They made sure it was special. They had a fantastic Mexican band that wasn't too loud, you could still hear people talk at the table, they sang to the birthday person.... Prices were reasonable, and so much more. I would highly recommend this new restaurant..... read more

This is now our go-to restaurant for Mexican cuisine. The food was expertly prepared, fresh, and very, very tasty. The Carne Asada was ordered medium rare, and came exactly as requested. The rice is not an afterthought, but well- prepared and tasty. The refried beans were topped with melted Monterey Jack cheese and we're a perfect consistency for eating with the four flour tortillas. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the trio of Tlocoyos with carnival, steak, and Piccadilly beef. Needless to say, we had sufficient food for a second day of this excellent food. Service was prompt, friendly, and the restaurant is very open and pleasant. The authentic music added to the ambience. Highly recommend! This is a new place here in my neighborhood and we were eagerly awaiting it to open. Then one day I saw the "now open" sign. I said lets go and try it out. At first glance I was confused as why there was wet patches on the floor and concerned that no attention was brought to it. but we were seated quickly and shown the menu. I promptly ordered the "Lamb Stew" but when it arrived, it was just a bowl of thin soup broth with a few vegetables. I brought this to the attention of our waiter, but he made some excuse that this was a lamb flavored soup, but there was no mention of this in the menu. If the menu says Lamb, it should actually have lamb in it. Terrible rude service at a very over inflated price. read more

Great staff, delicious food, terrific margaritas and even better Paloma's. Live music from a quartet. Give this place a try. They have 3 other locations, so they know what they're doing. The street tacos I ordered were delicious and I had a choice of meats for my tacos and they were delicious. I had their house margarita with salty and spicy brin , so delicious. I will definitely be going to this location again and inviting others to do the same, over all great place. read more

First time at the new location in lone tree. Our server brought out a flight of salsas with chips. The chips were almost inedible. Downright gross. ( advertising house made tortillas and then serving lousy chips is a foul!) Salsa choices were a nice touch. Diet cokes were cold and tasted great. My wife ordered a couple of a la carte tacos which were reportedly pretty good. Nothing special. I ordered something called alambre with al pastor which was pretty tasty basically a platter of al pastor pork mixed with peppers and smothered in melty cheese served with their fresh flour tortillas. It was better than expected. ( although could have used a couple more of them given the amount of meat in the platter !). The place is new and their chair choice is comfortable! A way better option than the usual metal chairs that are too narrow to fit my butt! Great Mexican music overhead and a good soccer match between Portugal and Spain in the TV over the bar. Our server didn't communicate too well -- seeming language barrier. But I'd probably try it again. It your usual neighborhood Mexican joint. Different menu different flavors. read more

I would skip it if you can they're much better options available to you. atmosphere and the restaurant itself is really beautiful but the service the food and minimal options available is very lack-luster. also be aware that they charge a credit card fee as a party of nine. We even had to ask for the check.. check out chez instead or literally anywhere else read more

First of all some reviews complain about the service but our service was excellent. It was our first time at the restaurant and we had 10 people (6 adults and 4 kids aged 7 - 12). Our waitress patiently answered our questions when ordering, kept our water glasses full, and our food came out in a reasonably quick time. So now about the food. The adult meals were very good. We had tacos, shrimp fajitas and enchiladas. Only complaint on the adult meals was the rice. Not the expected Mexican or Spanish rice but rice flavored with something not very good in our opinion. So could have been 5 stars if the rice was better. The kids meals were the big disappointment. Kids fried shrimp was over cooked and the kids fish fillet was not at all good. Price wise the meals were fairly reasonable (by today's standards) especially because the portions were large. The shrimp fajitas were loaded with shrimp and the enchiladas included 3 large ones where most places you only get 2. The restaurant atmosphere was good for families with large tables and very comfortable chairs and booths. Multiple large screens with sports shows helped keep the kids (and adults) entertained. Lastly I should mention that the menu was huge with many unique dishes. Definitely something for everyone and many kids meal options. Note that many items were marked with a flame icon which we thought meant spicy but actually meant they were a popular item. I would suggest in the next menu printing that should be marked with a star instead. So could have been 5 stars if the kids meals and rice were better. read more

We came in with a group of friends and had an awesome experience. Daisy was our waitress and she absolutely crushed it, super friendly, attentive, and kept everything moving even with a bigger group. The salsa they bring out at the start was fresh and addicting, and the queso was so good (we demolished it). My wife and I split the Birra and it was incredible, tons of flavor and perfectly cooked. Great food, great service, great vibe. We'll definitely be back! read more

We went to dinner on Friday 6-20 at 5pm. Unfortunately, the service was lacking from our waitress. She came over without any greeting and set a basket of chips and salsa down. As well as, a sample of 4 salsa's but didn't tell us any information or names for them. They were small samples about 3 tablespoons each with little spoons to taste on a chip. We tried them but they were nothing special. Then we ordered Taco's. The shrimp tacos were tasteless, small & undercooked. My steak tacos were tasty however, small street sized at $3.99 each. Cadillac Margarita was weak and pricey at $12 not served in a margarita glass. Just small regular water glass. Ambience was okay but the floors look wet like someone spilled a drink. Later I noticed they were tile with shiny lacquered spots throughout. After we finished & paid, we left unimpressed and don't plan to return. Disappointed! read more

Good Food, Horrible Service My wife and I went to Los Carboncitos for a late lunch. We were impressed by the decor and ambience. The menu was extensive and had a great variety of authentic dishes - much needed for this area! The portions were plentiful; the ceviche appetizer alone was filling. They also had a great variety of sauces and they brought the heat! Unfortunately, the service was poor. It was not particularly busy, but the waitstaff was rather cold and inattentive and would rather converse with her colleagues than attend tables. Had the service been better, it would have been a delightful experience. Also, the restaurant charges a 3% credit card charge which is above the Colorado Revised Statute limit of 2%. Anyone know how to get the State to enforce their own laws? We'll give them another shot as the food was good. Hopefully, the service will improve. read more

This is the second time I've been there- hoping the send time would be better; since I've heard great things. This is not great Mexican food. Service was good at first. I had a smothered chicken fajita burrito and ceviche. The ceviche was good/typical. I had to be a forensic scientist to find the pepper and onions in my fajita burrito. It was NOT good. This is all fine but I would have liked to have a bit more water and the check. I waited 28m for the waitress to return. OMG!!! I can't believe there's a local Mexican restaurant that ACTUALLY caters to authentic Mexican cuisine. This place is amazing! We've been there twice and plan on making this a regular place. The service is A #1. Each time the servers have been very pleasant and very helpful Every plate we've tried has been exquisite. I had the pibil (pinch me now...a place that actually service cochinita pibil...hell yeah!). And, their molcajete is not to be missed. It easily can be shared and is one of the most meat filled entrees and versions of this we've ever had. The first time we were there, with friends, we tried almost every one of their desserts. They were all awesome, however, the one they really recommended the most, we passed up this time, and that was their key lime pie.
