Sanibel's Seafood: Disappointing Experience After Three Years I hadn't been to Sanibel's Seafood in three years, but my husband and I were in the mood for seafood and decided to give them another shot. Unfortunately, our experience this time was disappointing, and I feel compelled to share the issues we encountered to help others make an informed decision. We placed our order right when they opened at 3:00 PM and were told it would be ready in 15 minutes. My husband arrived to pick up the food at 3:15 PM, but he was informed that the order was not ready yet. He didn't receive our food until 3:30 PM, which made us expect it to be hot and fresh, especially considering they had just opened. However, as soon as we unpacked our meal at home, I noticed it was only lukewarm at best. Initially, I thought it might have been the condiments cooling things down, but after touching various parts of the meal, I realized everything was barely warm. For a $31.92 takeout order, cold food was the last thing we expected, especially right after they opened. When my husband called the restaurant to address this, we encountered customer service that only added to our frustration. The woman on the phone repeatedly referred to us as "honey," which felt dismissive and unprofessional. She informed us that if we returned the uneaten food, they might "possibly" replace it--an offer that felt more like an inconvenience than an apology. In my experience with other takeout establishments, if there's an issue, the manager usually assures you that they'll make it right, even if it means taking your information for a future replacement. But at Sanibel's, they refused to let me speak with a manager, and the response we got was, "I just work here." Not only did they fail to make it right, but the dismissive attitude made it clear that customer satisfaction wasn't a priority. In addition to the lack of customer service, the restaurant's setup adds to the inconvenience. The parking lot is small and difficult to navigate, especially during busy hours. The inside pickup area is also very compact, and although they do try to get customers in and out quickly, it doesn't leave much space or comfort while you wait. Despite the limited number of people there, the experience felt rushed, and we were left with an impression that efficiency mattered more than service. I understand the challenges of inflation and increased costs, but when you're paying nearly $32 for a takeout order, you expect hot, fresh food and courteous customer service. It's not always practical for everyone to immediately return to the restaurant, and many customers might not have a way to reheat their meal at home. That "just microwave it" approach is unacceptable when ordering food meant to be eaten hot and fresh. Sanibel's missed the mark not only in the quality of our meal but in how they handled our concern, and their reluctance to stand behind their product is disappointing. I had hoped that Sanibel's might still be the great restaurant I remembered, but this experience proved otherwise. I won't be returning, and I'd caution anyone considering Sanibel's to weigh these factors before spending hard-earned money here.

NC fried seafood is a must have. The staff here is always nice southern roots, you have to love it. Let's get straight to it, seafood platter me. All the food here is delicious. I go for the flounder, popcorn shrimp and scallops. It was cooked to perfection and came quickly. If you're local you already know, and for anyone visiting you need to know.

The food is always on point. I never eat in so I can't speak on the dine in portion. The service is good but they are shorter busy on Fridays so you have the plan ahead.

When I think about how to rate a restaurant on Yelp, I ask myself two questions... What is this restaurant trying to be? And How well is it executing on that mission? In the case of Sanibel's, they are trying to be a no-frills, just good food for the family, seafood restaurant that fills your belly with delicious golden fried goodness at an extremely reasonable price. How well are they doing? Well. I have been coming here since I was a very young child, and very little has changed. They still pack the house, they still make great seafood without any worry by their customers about the freshness of the seafood, and they still operate like a well oiled machine. That is five stars if I ever heard it. They aren't trying to be the best seafood restaurant in town, or push the envelope on ocean fresh cuisine. They just want to give you literally multiple meals worth of seafood that won't ding your wallet. In my time coming here (30+ years), I have probably ordered every combination of the seafood available. You can't go wrong, and a small is enough for two meals for any ordinary person. Small = large, and large = meals for the week. I love their cole slaw. I order extra each time because it compliments their popcorn shrimp so well. It would be right at home on a hot dog too. I usually go baked potato instead of fries, because face it, you have plenty of fried stuff in your meal. The hushpuppies are the ring style and are always enjoyable. I hear many people order extra, but again, you wont hurt for portions here. Sanibel's is known to all the locals, and a certified "high point institution" if you will. These folks won't let you down. Give them your business! Be prepared to call several times for takeout, the line gets busy on friday/saturday evenings.

Every North Carolina town of a certain size needs at least one classic fried seafood joint. In High Point, Sanibel's fits the bill. This is the kind of place that looks untouched by time. But you don't go here for ambiance or innovation. You go to a Sanibel's because you want cheap, plentiful fried fish that won't make you sick, and by that measure, Sanibel's delivers. Sanibel's occupies a largish space up North Main with plenty of seating and parking alike. There is a separate entrance for take-out orders, which is what I opted for. I called in ahead, and everything was ready at the time of pick-up. Though the menu offers steaks, salads, and pasta dishes, seafood is the main draw here. You can get it broiled or fried, in single items or in combinations. My wife and I each went with a small fried combination platter, which came equipped with slaw, hushpuppies, and a choice of potato. We came away with flounder-perch-baked potato and shrimp-clams-fries respectively. By and large, the food was tasty and satisfying in a predictable, comfort-food way. Everything fried was well-breaded and crispy without excess grease, and there were zero freshness concerns. The popcorn shrimp were tiny yet addictive and won the approval of our begging cat as well. While neither the fries nor the slaw was anything special, the onion-ring lookalike hushpuppies were a standout. Sanibel's represents an exceptional value for the money spent. For under $12 per, each "small" combination platter yielded two generously portioned meals' worth of food. One shudders to think just how much a "large" would include. I cannot attest to Sanibel's dine-in experience, and I'm in no rush to find out if they do broiled seafood as well as they do fried, but takeout from this place seems like a smart bet for anyone with a fried fish craving or simply a few mouths to feed.

Ventured into this hidden gem last night. Driving to the location we never noticed the building. I'm a big fan of fried catfish so that was what I was aiming for. The energy from staff and guest was really good. The decorations made it feel like a legit seafood restaurant. Service was fast felt like as soon as we ordered it took no more than 10 mins and food was in front of us. I have the salt and pepper fried catfish and shrimp combo. My wife had the flounder special that they have on Thursday night. The fish we had was really good flavorful had a nice crunch and flaky. It came out super hot and fresh. The portion size was huge almost as if you could just split the meal. Overall great experience and we will be back in the future.

We didn't have reservations but were seated right away, which made for an easy start to the evening. The space has a modern, relaxed vibe that feels perfect for a casual dinner or drinks. We started with the Lobster Nachos, which were a fun twist since they're made with crispy potato wedges instead of chips. They were topped with lobster, bacon, scallions, and a creamy sauce: rich, indulgent, and great for sharing. For the main dish, I had the Ribeye steak with a side of cauliflower mash. The steak had a nice sear and great flavor, and the cauliflower mash was smooth, creamy and delicious, making it a great alternative to traditional mashed potatoes. A solid first visit with flavorful dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. Earl's Landing is a great new addition to the downtown High Point dining scene, and I'm looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu. Try the Lobster Nachos if you want something unique to share, they're a standout starter.

It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

Entrées followed in a reasonable time, no real issue there. Sammy G's has been in High Point for years and offers a wide menu with a little bit of everything. They also bring out little yeast rolls that are pretty good and they were warm when served. We started with the thin cut onion rings. My husband said "less than spectacular," and that sums it up. Some were sliced so thin you mostly tasted breading, and they were a bit greasy. I would skip these. He ordered the fish sandwich with Brussels sprouts (premium side with a small upcharge). The sandwich was okay, nothing special. The Brussels sprouts were good, nicely cooked with solid flavor. I had the Fratellis salad with greens, cranberries, feta, mozzarella, Granny Smith apples, and candied pecans, and added sirloin for an upcharge. They forgot the steak at first, but brought it out shortly after in a separate bowl. Not a big deal. The sirloin was cooked medium as requested, a little red inside and tender enough to cut easily. It had good flavor. I chose the apple cider vinaigrette, which worked well with the salad. I also ordered the chef's selection soup, which was supposed to be lobster bisque. If there was any lobster, it was microscopic. The flavor was slightly bitter and just not good. I asked for it to be taken off the bill. Service handled everything well, including the mistake with the steak and the soup. Atmosphere is casual tavern style, relaxed and easy for a weekday lunch. Must order: Fratellis salad with sirloin and apple cider vinaigrette (yummy), Brussels sprouts Heads up: Skip the thin cut onion rings and don't expect much from the bisque. Other soups, I've had here in the past have been great though.

They had warm fresh bread on the table with butter which was great since we were all very hungry. For my meal, I ordered the Halibut Large Plate. Blue Water Grille is fairly expensive and not somewhere you would come regularly, but for a special outing or a date night it is a great treat. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu. You can't go wrong at southern roots.

We just had lunch at Southern Roots and really enjoyed it! I had the grilled chicken panini with…read moresweet potato fries, and my coworker got the Jackson with squash--both were super good. The waitress was friendly and polite, and the place itself was nice and clean. It was a little loud inside, but nothing too crazy. I get takeout from here pretty often, and the food is always consistently good. I didn't get it this time, but I love their grilled Thai shrimp--it's definitely one of my favorites! Definitely one of my go-to spots!

Came here for a birthday dinner. For a Monday, dining room was quiet for dinner service. Bread (served with whipped butter) was fresh & delicious. Crab & Corn Chowder was tasty but thin like a soup (I expect a chowder to be thick) and very little crab & corn (mostly broth). Husband had Black Bean soup and seemed to enjoyed it. Server was being shadowed and the extra hands were helpful (we enjoyed the extra attention). Food arrived promptly and to temp. Pecan Crusted Chicken was tender and juicy. The bourbon cream sauce was more of a thick glaze (lacked cream?), was thick and very rich (fortunately it was on the side). Husband tips were ordered medium rare and a bit more red than anticipated but he rather have his steak slightly underdone vs overdone (menu has description of various temps for reference). Oldest child demolished her Shrimp Caesar Salad. Youngest child enjoyed her grilled cheese and sweet potato mash. Portions were decent, servers were attentive. Ambience was intimate. Definitely would consider visiting again for special occasion.
