When I tell you Southern Roots in Jamestown, NC was one of the best meals of my life... you truly have to experience it for yourself. My friend chose this location, and I'll be honest--those of us driving from Greensboro were skeptical. Even pulling up, I had questions. Why is the front door in the back? Why is the parking so limited? I walked in curious but unconvinced. That changed immediately. Inside, there's a large waiting area near the bar, and after tasting the food, I completely understood why there would be a wait. I arrived early (Greensboro girl who hasn't been to Jamestown in probably 10 years), so I headed to the bar where Asia was incredibly kind and welcoming. I asked about THC drinks and was thrilled they had my all-time favorite: Bodega Grape. Off to a strong start. Once the rest of our 10-person party arrived, we were seated at the community table, which felt perfect for the night. I randomly chose an appetizer for the table--cornbread--and this may have been one of the best decisions of my entire life. Omg. The chicken gravy alone deserves its own review. Add the honey butter? Life-altering. Truly. I also tried the shrimp appetizer, which was phenomenal. For my meal, I ordered the trout with crab meat (absolutely delicious), plus more cornbread (yes, again) and onion pie as my sides. No regrets. Across the table I sampled BBQ and Brussels sprouts--amazing. Someone else ordered the wedge salad, which was massive, and the fried okra pizza... hello!!! Incredible. Every single person at the table was raving about every bite. Not one miss. Just nonstop "you have to try this." It was a wonderful birthday celebration, and I cannot wait to return. I haven't stopped talking about this restaurant--and honestly, I don't plan to anytime soon.

Opting for a low key Valentine's day, my wife and I went for a drink Potent Potables, and ended up deciding to place an order for food to go from Southern Roots. On a holiday that is notorious for packed restaurants, we didn't want to deal with the crowds and headache, but were really surprised we were able to place to go over on their website, and pick it up in less that 20 minutes! Again, in keeping with low key , we decided to try their pizza, which we didn't even realize the offered until a few days earlier when a friend at Potent Potable's run club ordered one to go. It looked good, so we figured we'd try our own. Their menu offered 8 options, we decided to try sausage pizza, and meatloaf pizza. I've had their meatloaf in the past, and it's great, so on pizza had to be good! Using their website to order and pay was simple, very straight forward, and user friendly. I walked over after about 15 minutes, and the food was ready to go. The short interaction with staff was pleasant, despite them clearly being slammed. Brought our pizza's back next door, grabbed a drink, and enjoyed a tasty simple dinner! The pizza's are a bit small, if I had been hungrier, I could certainly have eaten a whole one on my own. The meatloaf pizza, was as i suspected, and something I'd definitely get again. If you've never been, give them a try!

We tried the pizza today. Very good sauce and cauliflower crust with their veggie pizza. The Cobb salad was fresh with sun dried tomatos and bacon. The Rosemary bread was off the appetizer menu . All was delish! A nice treat to the afternoon.

We had a good time at Southern Roots. It's a beautiful space with plenty of natural light which was great and well needed for our lunch. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and a grilled chicken panini and both were pretty good. They had a ton of flavor and were really fresh. My friend had the caesar salad and she absolutely loved it. The service was also great. Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our lunch. Overall I had a good experience. I would definitely return to try more items on the menu.

This was a cute spot that, as time passed, really picked up a crowd. The inside had a nice aesthetic to it. There was also outdoor seating. Parking seemed kind of tight, especially after they got packed. We got there a little bit before traditional dinner time, so there was no wait, and we were able to sit down right away. We were greeted upon entry, and everyone was so nice. Our server was a bit what you see is what you get, but he was kind. The food was decent. It was made well and had a bit of flavor. I had a crab cake for the appetizer; they give you a fried green tomato as well. The crack cake looks bigger than what it is because of the fried green tomato on the bottom, which could be a real treat if you're a fan of fried green tomatoes. I am not. The crabcake was pretty good, and it was your standard crab cake, which is typically pleasing for non-crabcake enthusiasts. The fish was fried well, and I am a sucker for hand-cut fries, so I enjoyed those. I was not a fan of the green beans at all. The blood orange margarita was delicious. The turtle cheesecake was pretty good. It's worth the try if you are interested. The turtle part of the cheesecake is in the crust. All in all, I enjoyed my meal. I wasn't blown away, but again, I enjoyed my meal.

As always...great place to go for good southern cuisine. I got fried oyster salad and my friend got the snapper. They mixed up our order so we ended up with things we didn't order...like mashed potatoes that were delicious as well as Brussels sprouts. I have never had a bad meal here. Waitress was great! I hope they keep up the excellence.

Decor was light, bright with a nautical feel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Fried green tomatoes were delicious. Potato mash was unpleasant to me as too much butter was added to it. Fried catfish interestingly tasted like Popeyes. Collard greens were sour and undercooked. Also, I tried my friend's cornbread and it didn't taste like cornbread at all- more like bland cornmeal.

Second visit to the best restaurant around and it was better than my first time. I got to say the vibes/ambiance the restaurant gives off is like having a meal in your own home with the level of comfortability it gives. The Thai styled shrimp were cooked to perfection and the sauce is always amazing(little sweet/savory with a kick of heat/spice).The flat iron skirt steak with the bourbon glaze was absolutely one of the best steaks I've ever had and it was cooked to a perfect medium temp. As always the potato mash was delightful and honestly unique in the sense of flavor/texture profile due not tasting anything like it before. I was recommended the fried eggplant fries by the waiter and they were absolutely delicious, they were the first thing gone from my plate. Also the service here is always top tier with making sure they get our refills and that everything is going well. Will/Have recommended Southern Roots to all my family/friends/coworkers.

One of my go to restaurants for a great meal and an even better selection of seasonal cocktails. The Yule time mule and mistletoe margarita were an immediate hit with the mule as the ultimate winner. The menu is farm to table/southern cuisine with all the fan favorites like meatloaf, green beans and collards and my favs fluffy cornbread and cheesy grits. The restaurant has a rustic, comfy feel and we're seated in the small window seats by the bar with bench seating and pillows. It was a little drafty on a cold winter evening so some curtains in that area might help. Our server was knowledgeable, fast and attentive and provided great recommendations as we struggled to select from a great menu and list of specials. My hubby was a bit disappointed that the short rib special was sold out but opted for the meatloaf. I selected that catfish wish was fresh, hot and well seasoned. Great experience as always on a busy Saturday evening.

Southern Roots has been a favorite of ours for years. Every dish is consistently delicious! Expect a little bit of a wait on the weekends, especially if it is cold outside but it's worth it! Once the weather warms up a little, they have a good number of tables on the patio. They have a nice online waitlist that allows you to keep track of your place if you decide to run next door to Potent Potables or grab a drink at their bar while you wait. Their menu has a decent selection ranging from apps, sandwiches, and pizzas to upscale entrees. It can be difficult narrow it down if you are hungry because it is all so good! Some of my regular favorites are the fried green tomatoes, salad pizza, Thai fried shrimp, the Billy Bob sandwich, and the Cajun Catfish. Last night my husband picked one of the specials: country fried steak with gravy, fried brussels with a sweet chili glaze, and green beans. I went with my usual Cajun Catfish with collards and mashed potatoes. The fish was a nicely sized portion with 2 filets that were light, flaky, and perfectly fried. His dish was the winner of the evening. You could put that gravy on anything! The service is always top notch. Even with bit of a wait, we were in and out in an hour and a half. I'm already thinking about getting those crispy brussel sprouts next time.

Enjoyed a few well-crafted cocktails and a beautiful Black n' Bleu salad this past Friday evening. Service took the experience in a positive direction from the start and the ambiance was buzzy yet relaxing. The Blood Orange Crush was a delightful light summer tequila cocktail with an orange sugar rim. Definitely right to kick off your summer nights on their patio. The Black n' Bleu salad flat iron steak was done right with fresh greens, roasted Roma tomatoes and Carmelized onions. I paired it with their amazing balsamic bacon vinaigrette and bleu cheese dressing. I finished the evening with a Garden Buzz mule and enjoyed the complementary flavors of the lavender and mint. Can't wait to return for another experience!

Cost, charming vibe with top-notch southern-inspired food. The cocktails, service, and atmosphere were all in point!! We had the fried green tomatoes, sea bass, and trout. Was too full to get desert but I saw the bread pudding and it looked to die for! Will definitely try next time.

Southern roots has been a go to for me for date night and girls night out for over a decade! If I want co distantly delicious food and service, I know this is where to do. I've been obsessed with their pulled pork quesadilla and cornbread for as long as I can remember. I'd love to try other apps but I just can't because these two are so good. It was my first time trying steak and I have to say it was seasoned and cooked to utter perfection. My go to sides are always grits and okra and you can't convince me to get anything else. Just so so good. The only thing is they don't take reservations so make sure you either get there early or be prepared to wait, but it's worth it!

The shrimp cocktail was tasty but the shrimp are extremely small and only 6 so definitely not a shareable. I had the chargrilled oysters and they had great potential. All the flavors were there but they were left a bit too long to cook and half my order was burnt. The soup was phenomenal, as was the peel and eat shrimp. It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

My initial introduction was when they were located in Stock and Grain Food Hall. I had wanted to try them for a while and luckily I was invited to a Yelp Event where I was able to sample some items. In all fairness, I absolutely loved the service but maybe it was an off night but at the time I wasn't a fan. But as some months passed, they are no longer in Stock and Grain but in a food truck in High Point. I highly suggest following their Facebook page for dates and times where you can catch them. The service was still wonderful and the food was really good. The sweet potato cornbread is one of my favs and the chicken wings and catfish bites were fried to perfection. I love collard greens but do understand, everyone makes them differently. My family is from eastern NC so we make ours savory, theirs have a little sweetness to it. I don't mind it but this time around was so much better, it was very well balanced. The mac and cheese was delicious as well. Although not pictured, do check out their Russian tea drink. I felt very nostalgic and I have no other words but it was great. I try to savor it when I get some. I wish he sold them in half gallon jugs because I would buy it. That's how good it is. They have other items like Rasta pasta, oxtails, pork chops, and turkey wings. I can't wait to come back and try more food. Give them a follow and check them out. You won't be disappointed.

They were absolutely incredible (in no particular order because they were all perfect): Lemon pepper wings: Huge, seasoned and prepared perfectly! Four large wings per order. Yams: Incredible, I haven't had yams in years and really enjoyed them. Mac and Cheese: Very, very good, enjoyed. Sweet potato cornbread: Incredible as well, sweet and moist. We will make it a point to visit more frequently!

I had a fantastic experience here when visiting Greensboro. I was seated quickly, and the waiter…read morewas extremely attentive. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food was delicious. I tried a dish that I had never had before, as well as naan. (Because of course. How do you not get naan?) The spice level was perfect, the flavor was rich and multi-layered, and I left the restaurant full and happy. I intend to visit again the next time I'm down in Greensboro.

I was craving an Indian buffet and wanted to try somewhere new. That curiosity brought me to Noor,…read morewhich had been on my radar since it opened a few years back. I wish I could say that it was worth the wait, but my experience here suggested otherwise. Positives first: Noor is both spacious and stylish with plenty of seating in both the bar and dining areas. Sujan proved to be an attentive and courteous server. That said, the buffet was somewhat underwhelming. It was smaller than those I've found elsewhere in the area. While it offered a solid mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, those offerings were the epitome of playing it safe. Only the hakka noodles (not always an Indian buffet staple) and butter chicken (better than average) really stood out. Nothing else, from the tandoori chicken to the daal to the naan, was prepared poorly, but it was fairly forgettable. Granted, buffet food needs to appeal to a wide range of diners with varying levels of spice tolerance, and so I went in not expecting any heat. Take spiciness out of the equation, however, and the flavors still felt subdued. At least the $20 seemed reasonable for what was offered. It's possible that Noor really shines if you order off the regular menu, and so I wouldn't rule out a return here. The next time I want a weekend lunch buffet, however, I think I'll stick to Taaza.
