This place... is one of our top two places in Jamestown. (The other is Simply Thai right across the street.) Actually in the surrounding area too. Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu. You can't go wrong at southern roots. read more

We had a great experience at Southern Roots. Between the table, we tried the Gouda Pimento Dip, short ribs, the Granny Smith salad with shrimp, and the crab-stuffed trout. Everything was delicious, although my partner wasn't a huge fan of the short ribs. The trout and salad were both excellent. The cheese dip was delicious. The sides were a standout, especially the Parmesan spaghetti squash, which I highly recommend. We had to put some extra salt on the sides, but that's purely personal preference. They also had several reasonably priced drink specials, which was a nice surprise. The service was amazing--friendly, attentive, and a big part of what made the meal so enjoyable. Overall, a really solid dining experience, and I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu. read more

It had been almost two years since we'd been to Southern Roots, and I remembered it being good, but this visit was even better. We had the burger and gluten-free risotto, and both were very good. The wine list is a strength, with plenty to choose from. Prices are a bit high for Jamestown, but the food and variety justify it. The thing that really stood out for us was the gluten-free options, which goes well beyond the usual salad and grilled chicken: cauliflower crust pizza, quesadillas on a gluten-free tortilla, risotto, and shrimp and grits, plus the meats, salads, and sides that are gluten-free anyway. You don't see that many real options on one menu very often. If you eat gluten-free, put it on your list; if you don't, the food and wine are reason enough to go. read more

I have heard about Southern Roots and was in the area, so we ate there for dinner. The weather was cooler, so we were able to enjoy dinner on their patio. The service was excellent. Our waiter was so nice and did an awesome job. I had one of their summer mocktails and a pimento cheese appetizer. Both were really tasty, and the mocktail reminded me of a mimosa. I like how they give you plenty of pita chips. For my entree, I had the scallop special with onion pie and spaghetti squash. The scallops were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The sides are some of their specialties, and both were cheesy and delicious. For dessert,t I had the pound cake. It was moist and not too sweet. I cannot say enough how great our server was. They do not take reservations, but we did not have to wait since we sat outside. We plan to come back to try more of their yummy food. read more

Southern Roots is one of my favorite local places to eat. The service is always amazing & quick. The chopped salad is my go to with the bacon vinaigrette (a must try for all my bacon lovers)! Delicious! The zucchini fries were perfectly crisp w/ the homemade sauce. My entree was the filet red snapper with a creamy tomato sauce. read more

Great food and service. Went here on a whim for lunch. Glad I did. The service was good and the menu was varied which made deciding harder! I ended up getting a steak and it was prepared wonderfully. Seasoned well and cooked to medium. I need to make a point to get back here and try something else. read more

When I tell you Southern Roots in Jamestown, NC was one of the best meals of my life... you truly have to experience it for yourself. My friend chose this location, and I'll be honest--those of us driving from Greensboro were skeptical. Even pulling up, I had questions. Why is the front door in the back? Why is the parking so limited? I walked in curious but unconvinced. That changed immediately. Inside, there's a large waiting area near the bar, and after tasting the food, I completely understood why there would be a wait. I arrived early (Greensboro girl who hasn't been to Jamestown in probably 10 years), so I headed to the bar where Asia was incredibly kind and welcoming. I asked about THC drinks and was thrilled they had my all-time favorite: Bodega Grape. Off to a strong start. Once the rest of our 10-person party arrived, we were seated at the community table, which felt perfect for the night. I randomly chose an appetizer for the table--cornbread--and this may have been one of the best decisions of my entire life. Omg. The chicken gravy alone deserves its own review. Add the honey butter? Life-altering. Truly. I also tried the shrimp appetizer, which was phenomenal. For my meal, I ordered the trout with crab meat (absolutely delicious), plus more cornbread (yes, again) and onion pie as my sides. No regrets. Across the table I sampled BBQ and Brussels sprouts--amazing. Someone else ordered the wedge salad, which was massive, and the fried okra pizza... hello!!! Incredible. Every single person at the table was raving about every bite. Not one miss. Just nonstop "you have to try this." It was a wonderful birthday celebration, and I cannot wait to return. I haven't stopped talking about this restaurant--and honestly, I don't plan to anytime soon. read more

Such amazing food but it was SO LOUD that it was one of the worst restaurant experiences. The food was incredible and the staff was amazing but we couldn't even hear the person across the table. All 6 of us agreed it was one of the most overstimulating restaurant experiences. Such an easy fix too, all it needs is curtains, a few rugs, literally ANY soft texture to absorb the sound it would be amazing. The day they fix the issue I'll be there all the time! Literally begging them to get some curtains or something, it was so good but I can't with how loud it was. read more

We had a good time at Southern Roots. It's a beautiful space with plenty of natural light which was great and well needed for our lunch. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and a grilled chicken panini and both were pretty good. They had a ton of flavor and were really fresh. My friend had the caesar salad and she absolutely loved it. The service was also great. Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our lunch. Overall I had a good experience. I would definitely return to try more items on the menu. read more

We tried the pizza today. Very good sauce and cauliflower crust with their veggie pizza. The Cobb salad was fresh with sun dried tomatos and bacon. The Rosemary bread was off the appetizer menu . All was delish! A nice treat to the afternoon. read more

Opting for a low key Valentine's day, my wife and I went for a drink Potent Potables, and ended up deciding to place an order for food to go from Southern Roots. On a holiday that is notorious for packed restaurants, we didn't want to deal with the crowds and headache, but were really surprised we were able to place to go over on their website, and pick it up in less that 20 minutes! Again, in keeping with low key , we decided to try their pizza, which we didn't even realize the offered until a few days earlier when a friend at Potent Potable's run club ordered one to go. It looked good, so we figured we'd try our own. Their menu offered 8 options, we decided to try sausage pizza, and meatloaf pizza. I've had their meatloaf in the past, and it's great, so on pizza had to be good! Using their website to order and pay was simple, very straight forward, and user friendly. I walked over after about 15 minutes, and the food was ready to go. The short interaction with staff was pleasant, despite them clearly being slammed. Brought our pizza's back next door, grabbed a drink, and enjoyed a tasty simple dinner! The pizza's are a bit small, if I had been hungrier, I could certainly have eaten a whole one on my own. The meatloaf pizza, was as i suspected, and something I'd definitely get again. If you've never been, give them a try! read more

We have been dining at Southern Roots for years and years, but of late for whatever reason it had fallen off our radar. I do make sure to go each holiday season and pick up a few loaves of the rosemary focaccia for leftover sandwiches though! Yes, I am a regular baker, but at that time of year it's nice to have some help! Love the meatloaf, the roasted okra, and so many other fabulous, unique offerings! Putting this back on our rotation for Springtime when hopefully live music on the patio starts back up. Those were some fun evenings!! read more

I ordered the catfish with eggplant fries and okra, Mom ordered the Granny Smith salad. Both were outstanding. I really got the Southern feel of the restaurant and got to try new, unique foods (my first time being served a whole okra pod). Server was very quick and attentive. We just had lunch at Southern Roots and really enjoyed it! I had the grilled chicken panini with sweet potato fries, and my coworker got the Jackson with squash--both were super good. The waitress was friendly and polite, and the place itself was nice and clean. It was a little loud inside, but nothing too crazy. I get takeout from here pretty often, and the food is always consistently good. I didn't get it this time, but I love their grilled Thai shrimp--it's definitely one of my favorites! This was a cute spot that, as time passed, really picked up a crowd. The inside had a nice aesthetic to it. There was also outdoor seating. Parking seemed kind of tight, especially after they got packed. We got there a little bit before traditional dinner time, so there was no wait, and we were able to sit down right away. We were greeted upon entry, and everyone was so nice. Our server was a bit what you see is what you get, but he was kind. The food was decent. It was made well and had a bit of flavor. I had a crab cake for the appetizer; they give you a fried green tomato as well. The crack cake looks bigger than what it is because of the fried green tomato on the bottom, which could be a real treat if you're a fan of fried green tomatoes. I am not. The crabcake was pretty good, and it was your standard crab cake, which is typically pleasing for non-crabcake enthusiasts. The fish was fried well, and I am a sucker for hand-cut fries, so I enjoyed those. I was not a fan of the green beans at all. The blood orange margarita was delicious. The turtle cheesecake was pretty good. It's worth the try if you are interested. The turtle part of the cheesecake is in the crust. All in all, I enjoyed my meal. I wasn't blown away, but again, I enjoyed my meal. read more

Decor was light, bright with a nautical feel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Fried green tomatoes were delicious. Potato mash was unpleasant to me as too much butter was added to it. Fried catfish interestingly tasted like Popeyes. Collard greens were sour and undercooked. Also, I tried my friend's cornbread and it didn't taste like cornbread at all- more like bland cornmeal. read more

Southern Roots has been a favorite of ours for years. Every dish is consistently delicious! Expect a little bit of a wait on the weekends, especially if it is cold outside but it's worth it! Once the weather warms up a little, they have a good number of tables on the patio. They have a nice online waitlist that allows you to keep track of your place if you decide to run next door to Potent Potables or grab a drink at their bar while you wait. Their menu has a decent selection ranging from apps, sandwiches, and pizzas to upscale entrees. It can be difficult narrow it down if you are hungry because it is all so good! Some of my regular favorites are the fried green tomatoes, salad pizza, Thai fried shrimp, the Billy Bob sandwich, and the Cajun Catfish. Last night my husband picked one of the specials: country fried steak with gravy, fried brussels with a sweet chili glaze, and green beans. I went with my usual Cajun Catfish with collards and mashed potatoes. The fish was a nicely sized portion with 2 filets that were light, flaky, and perfectly fried. His dish was the winner of the evening. You could put that gravy on anything! The service is always top notch. Even with bit of a wait, we were in and out in an hour and a half. I'm already thinking about getting those crispy brussel sprouts next time. read more

One of my go to restaurants for a great meal and an even better selection of seasonal cocktails. The Yule time mule and mistletoe margarita were an immediate hit with the mule as the ultimate winner. The menu is farm to table/southern cuisine with all the fan favorites like meatloaf, green beans and collards and my favs fluffy cornbread and cheesy grits. The restaurant has a rustic, comfy feel and we're seated in the small window seats by the bar with bench seating and pillows. It was a little drafty on a cold winter evening so some curtains in that area might help. Our server was knowledgeable, fast and attentive and provided great recommendations as we struggled to select from a great menu and list of specials. My hubby was a bit disappointed that the short rib special was sold out but opted for the meatloaf. I selected that catfish wish was fresh, hot and well seasoned. Great experience as always on a busy Saturday evening. read more

Enjoyed a few well-crafted cocktails and a beautiful Black n' Bleu salad this past Friday evening. Service took the experience in a positive direction from the start and the ambiance was buzzy yet relaxing. The Blood Orange Crush was a delightful light summer tequila cocktail with an orange sugar rim. Definitely right to kick off your summer nights on their patio. The Black n' Bleu salad flat iron steak was done right with fresh greens, roasted Roma tomatoes and Carmelized onions. I paired it with their amazing balsamic bacon vinaigrette and bleu cheese dressing. I finished the evening with a Garden Buzz mule and enjoyed the complementary flavors of the lavender and mint. Southern roots has been a go to for me for date night and girls night out for over a decade! If I want co distantly delicious food and service, I know this is where to do. I've been obsessed with their pulled pork quesadilla and cornbread for as long as I can remember. I'd love to try other apps but I just can't because these two are so good. It was my first time trying steak and I have to say it was seasoned and cooked to utter perfection. My go to sides are always grits and okra and you can't convince me to get anything else. I ordered a filet, medium rare . It was nicely seared on the outside, and medium rare on the inside. Just perfect. My sides were butternut squash and stir fry veggies. My only complaint with the veggies was too many onions. My spouse has a giant Caesar salad which was delicious, but he could not finish. My son got gumbo and absolutely loved it. My DIL got seafood risotto. It had huge scallops and she was very happy. But for dessert, I ordered the Godiva chocolate mousse cheesecake with an Oreo crust. I split it with my DIL. It was heavenly. Without a doubt the best thing I ever put in my mouth. The service was outstanding. We were well taken care of. The atmosphere was cozy and charming. We'll be coming back again soon read more

Second visit to the best restaurant around and it was better than my first time. I got to say the vibes/ambiance the restaurant gives off is like having a meal in your own home with the level of comfortability it gives. The Thai styled shrimp were cooked to perfection and the sauce is always amazing(little sweet/savory with a kick of heat/spice).The flat iron skirt steak with the bourbon glaze was absolutely one of the best steaks I've ever had and it was cooked to a perfect medium temp. As always the potato mash was delightful and honestly unique in the sense of flavor/texture profile due not tasting anything like it before. I was recommended the fried eggplant fries by the waiter and they were absolutely delicious, they were the first thing gone from my plate. Also the service here is always top tier with making sure they get our refills and that everything is going well. Will/Have recommended Southern Roots to all my family/friends/coworkers. read more

Came to High Point on a February early to beat the snow for a class in the morning and decided to Yelp a place for lunch and found Southern Roots in Jamestown! Aja was my server and she was very welcoming and friendly. She told me about the special and helped me decide on the seafood risotto for my entree. The restaurant is in a renovated building on Main Street and the entrance is off the back of the building where there is ample parking. The dining room is bright with, as you might guess, southern decor! I am sipping on my second Arnold Palmer waiting for my main course to arrive... And there it is..... I enjoyed the seafood risotto on a cold day while I watched the snow fall! It had shrimp, a scallop and mushrooms. The cornbread with the sweet butter added to the meal. It was the kind of comforting meal that is appreciated on a cold day. I will keep SR on my radar, especially since the training I drove to HP to attend was cancelled due to the snow. I recommend Southern Roots to anyone looking for a great meal, and hospitable service in a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks! read more

Delicious fresh innovative Attentive service Nice outdoor seating area I've had Southern Roots on my High Point collection for a long time. I'm not in that area much but I was having lunch with my mom one day and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try something that was new to both of us. It was prime lunch time when we arrived but it was a beautiful day so we opted to sit on the patio. It was a lovely area and I highly recommend sitting out there if you go and the weather is nice. Nothing wrong with the inside but eating outdoors just makes it feel more special and adds to the whole experience. My mom mentioned wanting a salad and Southern Roots had a lot of unique options. My mom ordered the petite size Southern Organic Salad and added chicken. After trying to decide between all the delicious options our server helped me decide and I ordered The Hill sandwich with a side of Sweet Potato fries. Our server was very friendly, attentive and kept our drinks filled and in no time our food was served. Both our meals looked delicious and one bite in we were both so happy we took the time to drive 30 min to come. Portions were very generous and my mom was happy she got the petite size salad I was only able to finish 1/2 my sandwich and I shared 1/2 my sweet potato fries with my mom too! We were stuffed with we left. I plan to come again for sure! It was so good and I definitely want to try so many other items on the menu. Our waiter was so kind and helpful! Food was so good! I started with a Caesar salad that was delicious with the addition of 2 warmed grape tomato's sliced in half (so good I forgot the pic!). The cast iron steak was perfectly cooked and I loved the blue cheese butter. The potatoes were creamy and perfectly complimented the steak. I feel that you get a lot of food for the price! Southern Roots is a longtime favorite for us. I can honestly say I've never had anything I didn't like here, and we've been coming for years. They have lots of staple menu items, but also have daily specials. It's a date night spot for me and the hubs, but it is kid friendly and there is a kids menu. Great local place in Jamestown! Friendly staff is always a plus! We enjoyed the location as well as the quality of the food.

Southern Roots makes the best Reuben I've ever had and I've had plenty in my 52 years, from the Pacific Northwest all the way to the East Coast. Their Reuben is perfectly grilled, with tender corned beef, melty cheese, and just the right balance of flavor.
