It was my first time at the Publix location on Gate City Blvd. in Greensboro, NC. In "typical" Publix fashion, it did not disappoint. The parking lot was immaculate, with no debris in sight and shopping carts corralled. Upon entering, there are recycling bins and plastic bag returns, also neatly maintained. The store is clean and airy, with the happy buzz of employees dressed in green going about their tasks. To demonstrate the quality of this particular store, and what impressed me the most, I have a story. I was there for a specific item (although I left with $50 dollars worth of other items, but I digress), and was having difficulty locating it. Ben, the store manager was busy stocking shelves and was coming down the frozen food aisle, so I stopped him to inquire. Without hesitation, he kindly looked up the item, checked the stock, and found a boatload of what I needed (yay!) and then educated me on where the other plant-based items were in this specific store. Score! I had been to THREE other Publix stores (yes in three different cities...lol) on my search. This store has now become "Numero Uno" in my book. It was so well stocked and the employees were so helpful, that I will enjoy coming back again, and again, and I would invite anyone to do the same. read more

I'm always impressed with Publix. Everything in the store is so clean and put together. Everyone is so friendly. This was a strange exception. The manager putting away the dairy was great. We had a good conversation. He acknowledged us. Everything was wonderful. But the stalker I ran into by the pickles. Was on his phone talking to a friend, I did my rounds in the grocery store and he was about 15 feet further down the aisle, still on his phone, never even acknowledge me, the cashiers sat and talked between the cashier and the bagger the entire time. I didn't want to interrupt their private conversation and then when I went outside the stalker that has been on his phone the entire time is still on his phone outside. Walking back-and-forth having a loud conversation. Very unprofessional. Great Store, great management, off day with the employees. read more

Be careful with catering orders for hot fried chicken. I ordered wings and tenders for family dinner and the chicken tasted of old Grease, reheated and not cooked fresh. I was asked to pick up at 11:30 am rather than 11 am so they would time to cook the chicken. The tenders were tough . The bakery tray was good. I also called and spoke with someone and they said a manager would call me back. Have not gotten that call. An epic fail of quality and service. read more

I'm honestly having a hard time believing this Publix has already been in this spot for five years, but here we are. Since it has been almost that long since my initial review, and I easily find myself in this place a few times a month, I felt it necessary to talk about how it has held up over time. For that, you kind of need to break it up into sections: Pub Subs - This is the main reason I go to Publix, and honestly, I don't know how the Jersey Mike's in the same shopping center survives. You get a great sandwich here, mostly same toppings available, more sauces (love the peppercorn) and maybe just over half the price. In our case, we usually get whole subs, save half for later, get whatever full bag of chips is on sale, and either tea or a 2 liter soda. As much as I love the subs, it's also a pain point for me. Often, going in at the dinner hour, they'll be out of white bread. Sometimes all bread. It's often enough that I feel they'd be safe baking more daily. The Italian, chicken tender, and their Thanksgiving sub they have seasonally are my favorites. Sometimes I get a meatball, but am usually kind of disappointed in it. Hot bar - They never have onion rings. I'm even willing to wait for fresh ones, but the friers are occupied with other stuff (probably more chicky tendies). Delicious tendies, OK sides, overall... it's fine. Bakery and Catering - Generally a great deal on anything you'd need for a party, and there is usually some kind of baked good bogo when you have a sweet tooth. Buying a chicken tender platter here for a party is THE way to go. They also do a nice sandwich platter, among other things. Grocery - In general, I find Publix to be very expensive on most items. Though I greatly prefer it to Harris Teeter now, it is still just a place I buy things that are either niche, or on a special that discounts them into an affordable price. For example... no, I will not pay almost 4 dollars for a 2 liter soda. I just won't. That said, the PUBLIX BRAND ICE CREAM IS AMAZING, and I'll shell out full price on them. Shop the sales, and you'll be happy. Pharmacy - VERY SATISFIED. The prices are better than the big box pharmacies, they are super friendly, and never so busy at the drive-thru that my wait exceeds 5 minutes, if there is a wait at all. I've moved any medications I need here, and they keep me running. In general, customer service here is phenomenal, you can see why they've moved into the area... and appear to be winning over business from some of the entrenched super markets. They win in some areas, but are never likely to be my only stop when I need things due to prices. read more

This grocery store prides themselves on customer service and they hit that right on the nail. They keep the carts out of the parking lot and fully stocked at the entrance. As you walk in, the bakery to the right near the entrance is a smart move. The smell literally gravitates you to that area. Not to say my will power is low, but yeah...it's low when I visit this store. Their baked goods are simply amazing. The cakes, donuts, tarts, cookies and muffins are just tasty. After you stuff all of the cakes, donuts, cookies and muffins in your cart, walk over and get some of the best sandwiches or chicken. Don't forget the delightful sides they have across from the deli. This store is always fully stocked and super clean. They have this down to a science. Everything from the seafood, sushi, meat, packaged deli sections are the freshest . The butchers are always super nice. I have to close my eyes walking through this section, because it always so tempting. If you really don't feel like hunting for ingredients, grab their premade meals. They look so enticing. I've gotten them before and they are really good. Their fruit and veggies always look and taste fresh. The produce is handpicked and you can tell they take extra care in their selections. They have a great variety of fruits and vegetables. You may find some that you may not see at other supermarkets. The cashiers are friendly and you can set up to receive your receipt through email or app. They have actual baggers! I have been visiting this Publix ever since it opened a few years ago and it consistently offers a good overall experience. I think my favorite section would have to be the produce as they have a wide variety of super fresh options. The meat section is also vast with the staff working the area always willing to assist if you need it. The reason for the 4 stars is overall the prices are higher than other grocery stores in the area. If they are running a special then it will be a great deal, but it's likely the regular price is high. Also, I often visit the sub station which is a little less consistent. The quality of the food is also good, but depending on who is working you may have to wait a while. Ordering ahead on the app doesn't guarantee it will be ready when you pick it up. Overall it is a great grocery store that I visit frequently and I recommend giving it a try. read more

Probably my favorite grocery store at the moment as they are at a good location and distance from me. It's way down on the end of Gate City Blvd and right at Jamestown. Kind of tucked away, but also good because they aren't normally packed. Produce is always good and readily available. The first thing you notice and smell is their bakery which offers cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and many other desserts that are ready made or custom. Pizza dough is also available. The hot bar is real nice as the food looks delicious and easy to grab and order. They also make sandwiches for you to your liking. The meat selection is some of the best in the area as I'm almost always finding the right cut of beef I'm in search of. They also cut and slice to your liking if asked. The seafood dept also steams your crab legs for you. Staff has always been nice and kind. I highly recommend this grocery. COVID: There are employees who clean your cart for you. First time visiting Publix, not for grocery shopping, but for their Hot Food Bar! Got a cool recommendation for the Chicken Tender sandwich. Well...it was Freshly Cooked and already packaged in the steamer. The employee said they don't last ....they continuously prepare these daily prior to the lunch rush. It came with 2 huge chicken tenders , cheese, BACON, and Mayo. For a side I decided to try the hot soup. They have 4 great choices so I tried something new...Chicken and Wild Rice. Folks...I ate my sandwich in the parking lot and finished the soup at the office. Very Yummy and on a cool day the Soup was satisfying delish! I have yet to fully shop here, but I am giving my review with my experiences. I've always came here for the meat/deli. Their fried chicken wings are perfect. The price is very reasonable, so it's worth the trip for this alone. I have never had a problem with those working behind the counter for my deli meats. Publix has AMAZING customer service. If you see an employee, they always smile and hi. They want to make sure you're able to find everything ok.... even if they're stocking. They will walk with you to help you find what you're looking for. They have great BOGO deals EVERY week on popular things like cereal, ice cream, butter, even seafood. I love the cereal BOGOs honestly...it alternates from GM cereals to Big G. When it's close to a holiday, the BOGOs reflect that with cake mixes, rolls, pie crusts for Thanksgiving and Christmas or burgers, hotdogs, buns, popsicles for Memorial Day and Independence Day. Their subs are nothing short of AMAZING and one of them is on sale every week as well. My all time favorite sub is the Chicken Tender sub and believe me when I tell you it's a meal. The sub has SO much chicken there's not much room left for a lot of veggies. Yes, they will even toss them in a sauce of your choosing if you'd like. They will slice any cheese you'd like for your sub as well. If there's something you really want that they don't currently sell, if they can order it for you, they will with no extra charge to you. If there's something you saw in different location, not sold in your location, they will get it for you. I had some FSU reusable grocery bags that I'd bought a long time ago and had seen better days. One day as football season was starting and Panthers bags were being put out, I asked if it would be possible to get new ones or if I'd have to bring them back when I went to FL. This is in reference to the bakery. I ordered a specialty cupcake order 10days ago. A call this morning said they were out of vanilla cupcakes but could substitute chocolate or confetti. I chose confetti since a lot of parents steer away from chocolate. They were ready when we got there. My husband asked for the manager and it was expected for him to wait in a long line checking out since he was at the register. Running behind he paid and left. I have been dealing with multiple Publix in SC and have always been pleased but because this store seems to gave low customer service I probably won't be back anytime soon. read more

The made to order subs (delish), the prepared meals (superb), and the wide variety of fresh produce (wow) make Publix appealing over competitors. This Publix could use some organization with lines in the deli/sub/chicken areas. Customers don't have clear system to follow and staff just seem to randomly select the next customer in line. Today is our 21 year old son Wesley's 13th Happy Heart surgery anniversary. He really wanted a Porterhouse steak, so we started calling around and looking online. The butcher at Publix was so nice and said he would be happy to cut whatever we needed. We asked for it to be cut about 2-3" thick. He cut a beautiful Porterhouse steak that weighed 28 oz! I've included pictures showing the steak raw, cooked and devoured. We also purchased a pound of Cajun steamed crawfish, and he ate those as an appetizer. They were also delicious! I'm sorry I don't remember the male butcher's name or the female butcher that helped us with the crawfish and some peel and eat shrimp. They were both so nice! Gail, in the bakery even decorated a blueberry pie for us! The employees really go above and beyond and we were thrilled with our experience. If you haven't checked out Publix, this location is fantastic and the prices are VERY reasonable. We ended up doing our weekly shopping and they are less expensive than Lowes. It is out of our way but we will return, they are well worth it! 08-08-20 update: We went to Publix today, so I had the opportunity to get both names for the Butcher/Seafood staff. Travis cut the perfect Porterhouse and Staci was the Seafood expert. Believe it or not, she remembered us AND what we bought. Today we bought King Crab Legs, USA wild caught peel and eat Shrimp and more Little Neck Clams. We love this store and all of the staff. Everyone is so nice and they have very good health practices in place to prevent the spread of Covid. We used self checkout today and there was a super nice woman overseeing the process. When I moved to Greensboro over four years ago I quickly missed going to my neighborhood Publix in South Florida. Going to the new Publix off Gate City helped me get over my homesickness. This may seem silly to most people, but your local grocery story is something people immediately miss due to familiarity. Every week I go to this location to get a delicious Pub Sub. I also love the great produce, which is very fresh. Another cool aspect of Publix is I can get Don Shula's Steakhouse Sauce and 4 Rivers BBQ sauce, which are Florida restaurants. It's nice to bring a little piece of these great restaurants to the Triad. Also, I must say the politeness and quality of service from the employees at this location is outstanding. read more

Normally, I order my groceries from Walmart;, tonight I decided to try Publix since a new store opened about 6 miles from my house, and they offered 1 hour delivery. On their delivery site they give customers the option of 1 or 2 hour delivery in addition to several other times in the evening. Since I normally turn in early, I was glad, but somewhat surprised to see that I could receive my order within 1 hour, so I selected it. One other thing of note is they placed a hold of $55.00 on my card when my order was only a little over $47.00, so that was another negative. Their rationale was, the additional funds were needed in the event substitutions were needed. In my opinion that's not a good reason, because if they did not have what I ordered why would they give me something that was more expensive. This just does not make sense! When Walmart makes a substitution, and it cost more than what you originally ordered, they don't pass that cost on to the consumer. For example, if you order a quart of milk and they don't have a quart, but they have the gallon size, they give you the gallon for the price of the quart. They ensure the customer is not penalized if the item is out of stock. No wonder Walmart is winning the race in the monopoly grocery store game! Nonetheless, they told me my order could not be delivered until 2.5 hours later, not the 1 hour as advertised. As a result, I canceled my order, and "called them out" on their "false advertisement"! DON'T MAKE OFFERS YOU CANNOT SATISFY! I hope my money is releaseed immediately! However, my expectations have not been met thus far, don't know why would they will start now! read more

Because of that reason I only use self checkout here because I want to make sure that my items are being rung up to the amount that the sign said. The cashiers wait like vultures and won't take no for an answer. I had to say "no, thank you" 3 times to finally go to self check out in peace. I used to shop at Publix in Florida for many years. I even have some cloth Publix grocery bags that are about 25 years old. This was my first time at this store just to pick up a few items. I checked out the seafood counter and was going to buy some salmon fillets. There were three kinds - wild caught for 10.99/lb and 12.99/lb and farm raised at what I thought was on sale for $5.99/lb (comparable to what I've paid elsewhere). I picked 4 fillets that looked to weigh about 1 1/2 lbs. The counter person put them on the scale, bagged them and gave them to me and told me the total was $23.96. I asked her why so much and she asked me what the sign said. I told her $5.99/lb. She then told me they were $5.99 EACH. This worked out to about $16.00/lb. Every thing else in the case was sold by the pound yet the fine print on the sign said EACH yet was displayed as if it was a sale price. Very dishonest and very disappointing. How many people have fallen for this trick thinking they were buying something on sale yet paying almost 3 times what would be a normal sale price? BUYER BEWARE. read more
