I have tried almost everything here, even foods I don't usually like, and everything is so delicious and fresh. It's scratch made food just like you'd make it yourself but all the work has been done for you. And without the mess! The chicken pot pie is amazing, the Mediterranean Couscous is delicious, the country grits are phenomenal, and the baked goods are yummy. So many different kinds of foods to try. First time here to use a gift card I was given last Christmas. It's a bit of an upscale shop in my opinion. By the website I expected all food and a few gifts. I was pleasantly surprised to find LOTS of gifts and kitchen gadgets to choose from. Some of the prices for gifts were much higher than I would pay, but I'm sure they have their target customers that are happy to. I got a spinach quiche which is heating up now. (Instruction on the lid) and some Mediterranean salad, which is absolutely amazing! Definitely check this place out if you've never been there before. They also do catering and they have so many wonderful fresh selections! Dennis is the gentleman that helped me. I had never heard of this place until today. Started a new job and during orientation they provided us lunch. I got a Chicken Caesar Wrap it was delicious. My tray also had broccoli raisin salad, chocolate chip cookie & and mint. I haven't eaten at the place but since they will be close to my job, I am definitely going to check out the place. read more

I've been looking for a local place with take-and-bake dinners for during the week - this is the perfect place! It's tucked into a shopping center a little hidden. Inside, it's filled with local jams and snacks and this awesome Chapel Hill Coffee Toffee. There are baked breads and desserts, but I head to the refrigerator case with a huge variety of to-go casserole dishes to bake at home. The chicken pie is great - get the gravy with it. The chicken tetrazini is amazing! We've also had and enjoyed the chicken pot pie, the vegetarian lasagna, and the baked apples. read more

I get foods to go at Salem kitchen all the time, at least once a week. I've read some reviews that just have me laughing some of them are rather old so I'll give them that but between myself and my other half we have been going to Salem kitchen for over 10 years. We absolutely love their food and the way they seasoned it because it's not heavy allowing room for more but not having to worry about how much seasoning is in it salt etc.... I have tried personally a lot of their dishes and there has not been one that I have not enjoyed. It all started with their Moravian chicken pie. So thank you to all the ladies and everyone that works there and works hard... No matter what naysayers may say this is by far one of the best places to go to get meals that you can put in your oven or microwave and not have to worry about cooking! read more

I've been purchasing take and bake food from Salem Kitchen for several years now. I am a nurse at Baptist hospital and have a very busy schedule. The location is is within 5 minutes of the hospital so its convenvenient for me to swing by after work. The food and customer service have always met my expectations and I have referred several nurse friends and other co-workers. This past week I was treated so horrible by LuAnne that I had to leave a review. I placed a special order and was informed it was ready for pickup. I confirmed the order before heading to the ktchen as I always do. She confirmed that only part of what I ordered was ready. She went on to say that the other part of the order was never ordered. I found this interesting as I ordered in person and watched the individual write it down. Nevertheless, I was willing to wait until this was figured out, but she continued to speak to me in a rude condescending tone. Instead of finding a permanent solution it became an interrogation of how do I know it was ordered. She put me on hold and I hung up after 30 minutes. Several days passed and I was contacted by her once agin asking if I would be picking my order up. I confirmed the order and still only part of the order was referenced. The very same type of conversation started all over again! I asked for her name as I considered escalating the discrepancy. She rudely suggested that I can speak to the manager without my asking to do so. Very sketchy to say the least! Even if there was a misunderstanding or discrepancy with the order this is not how you treat loyal customers. Beyond disappointed with her lack of professionalism and will take my business elsewhere! read more

My family and I have been coming to Salem Kitchen for many years and enjoyed both their take out dishes and box lunches. So disappointed recently with the decline in quality and quantity of the box lunches. One thin slice of meat on sandwich so mostly eating bread and side was minimal as well. Not worth the $10 price. read more

The address here on Yelp is correct, but you cannot find the location unless you turn into the parking lot and look in the back of the building. Once there you will find some of the best food around. Salem Kitchen is literally a kitchen that makes homemade meals to take home. Their store cases is full of lasagna, vegetables and other prepared meals, including soups and desserts. We routinely stock up on lasagna, chicken tetrazzini and soup for the week. If you buy their reusable shopping bag and bring it with you on Saturday, you can get 10% off your shopping order. We were given the 9x13 chicken pie, party potatoes, green beans, macaroni and cheese, apples and two pound cakes as a gift after my father had surgery. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! I love chicken pie and this is one of the best I've had! All the sides were very tasty and the pound cakes (lemon and vanilla) were superb. Chicken Rice soup! Woooooooow! Flavor! Tasty! Literally the best I've ever had. Coming off an illness a great friend of mines brought me several things from there. So far the soup is a total homerun. Looking forward to eating the chicken pot pie also. I love pot pie & have tried a few that were herald as great pot pies in NC. I was unimpressed. Salem Kitchen catered a small, but special dinner for my father's 90th birthday and my sister's 70th birthday. Everything was delivered hot and right on time and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered chicken pies to go for our Thanksgiving gathering with our family and friends. This year it was pot luck style with only us baking the sweets so it seemed like the appropriate place to go. When I picked up the pies I had to wait 30 minutes before they were ready which surprised me because I had pre ordered them and was well after the time frame that they said my pies would be ready for pick up. I also was under the impression my pies would be fresh not frozen, I specifically asked if my pies would be fresh and they said yes. So, while waiting I thought maybe they got behind and we're making my pies. No big deal, they were to be fresh after all. Not so much. I waited 30 minutes for frozen pies. I was a little annoyed by this, but whatever, said thanks, paid and hit the road. They didn't apologize for my wait which surprised me, but, okay. The pies were FULL of chicken, I mean, who knows how many chickens were in this pie. The price was definitely right for that amount of meat presented. I've had better chicken pies, but I didn't have to cook so it was fine. The gravy is where it's at. Put enough gravy on it and you don't notice the blandness of the pie. Seriously. read more

The food here tastes straight out of a can, and most of it is - I know because my fiance worked there. Baked goods are much better, however there's nothing gluten-free and the only diabetic-friendly items are obviously store bought. They get their sheet cakes from Costco and some of the cakes are Duncan Hines. There are better bakeries around and most definitely far more superior places where you can buy truly scrumptious food. I was recently laid-up due to an operation. My brother kindly got me food from Salem Kitchen. The squash casserole, and mac + cheese were GREAT! The meat loaf was nothing short of AWESOME!! the sauce they put on it is the best I have ever tasted on meatloaf. It elevates it to a whole other level of greatness. The only item I was not completely thrilled with was the chicken pie. It was pretty bland, and the crust a bit too thick. A little less crust with some onion or shallot added to the pie would have made it great for me. We will get more food from them in the future! read more

The problem the employees are not nice. They walk away from customers are talking to them. Talk back rude,rush to get rid of. And not want to give change back due to the customers.
