Came for breakfast twice, it is a really nice atmosphere and the service is friendly. You get free continental breakfast if you stay at the hotel, but that only gets you a very small bowl of the yogurt and four different pastries they bake on site (croissant, focaccia, pistachio cake and what I think was a lemon pound cake) so if you like a more substantial breakfast, I would order off the menu. I have to say the organic yogurt off the menu ($17, the larger version of what comes with the continental breakfast) with fresh berries and pistachio granola was absolutely delicious and a good sized serving, but the real star here is the bacon. I am no stranger to bacon and this is the best bacon I have had in my whole life inside the US or internationally. They are large strips and are somehow perfectly crispy while still being tender and the perfect thickness. Hey there! We checked out San Morello with a few friends (there were four of us!), and it ended up being a pretty good time overall. The folks working there were genuinely super nice and made us feel welcome, and seriously, the cocktails were absolutely delicious. The service was a touch slower than we thought it might be, but honestly, everyone was still really friendly the whole time we were eating. Hey there! My biggest bummer was definitely the food sizes. Don't get me wrong, everything tasted great and was made really well, but the portions were just so tiny. Seriously, all four of us left feeling hungry, and that was a real letdown, especially when you think about how much it cost. I was really hoping for a meal that would fill us up a bit more, you know? This was the most perfect dinner location before attending the Chris Brown and Usher concert at Ford field. Located just a short walk from the stadium I'm so happy we decided to dine here. We made a reservation which was a smart move as the restaurant seemed to fill up fast. The ambiance was nice and clean with indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend. The Sicilian Caesar was fine for a Caesar salad. The halibut was light and delicious over the pearl couscous. The pappardelle or Tagliatelle was the best dish. The sauce was prepared well. The pasta was cooked perfectly and soft to the bite. The meat in the pasta was excellent. Amazing dish. I would eat it three times a day. The top of the salad was dumped on the table. Someone eventually cleaned it up. Eventually got my requested cabernet but she slopped it on the glass and table and it was ignored. Came for a lunch meeting on a Friday noon. 12/5/2025. It was quite busy, but with reservation no worries to get seated. Tables were kind of close to each other so it does get loud and hard to hear if busy. The service and food were both great. Friendly server pointed out which one was the funny tasting Diet Cola and got to try the funny tasting Diet Cola! Ceasar salad was good, which the portion was enough to be shared with two people and the Classi Pizza, also split between the two of us, was really delicious. There's warm, dim lighting and chic finishing that makes this feel a little more elevated. Definitely seems like a date night spot! The Classic pizza tasted very good, but isn't what I would consider "Detroit style" from my understanding. Which is totally fine! Just making a note for out-of-towners like myself who may expect it. It's absolutely a solid pizza, but know that it's a little pricey for a personal pizza. Worth it for the vibes if that's important to you! They had a pretty good selection of drinks, too. We've been to San Morello multiple times now, and haven't regretted it once. The setting is very nice, and the area near the kitchen is my favorite. The service has usually been great, with recommendations and wine pairings that have been on point. And the food, man! Everything has been great from the specials to to the staples. Overpriced and overrated with bad customer service and ambiance. I had reservation for a larger group and added one person on the day of the dinner. Instead of adding a chair to the table which we were ok with they split our party and literally took several asks before they agreed to sit us at the original table with additional chair. The layout of the place is dumb, I can see that there's no easy way for them to join couple of tables together to accommodate. The waiter was bringing out appetizers and another customer bumped into him spilling some of the food. They did bring us extra appetizers but it is just an example of unfortunate layout. The food is just mediocre especially for the price you're paying and the place feels furnished in retro style like you walked into 1960s. Wouldn't recommend. read more

San Morello delivered a really solid dining experience. I had the bolognese and the arugula salad, and both were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The bolognese was hearty without being too heavy, and the salad balanced it out perfectly with a crisp bite. I also tried their Maestro 300 cocktail, which reminded me of a Paloma..refreshing and citrusy with just the right balance. A big highlight was the bartender, who was incredibly knowledgeable about their lineup of spirits. We ended up chatting for over 30 minutes, and it was clear they take pride in both the selection and the craft. Service overall was attentive and welcoming. Came to San Morellos for both Dinner and Breakfast as I was staying in the hotel. Overall, I enjoyed the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. The waitstaff were attentive and quite friendly. For dinner we had the squid ink pasta with the crab and corn and the tuna crudo. While the pasta was good, I found it to be quite bland and lacking in umami. I almost never add salt to anything I eat and I felt the need to add some. Also, there was barely any crab in the dish, which was disappointing considering the dish cost $38. For breakfast we had the hotel included breakfast and ordered off the a la carte menu, ordering the fruit plate, sheep's milk ricotta, and an egg dish that tasted somewhat like a pizza. Overall we enjoyed it, but breakfast took us over 2 hours, which is kind of crazy. I would say go to San Morello for the ambiance or the service. As for the food, I think there is still much to be desired. read more

We hosted a customer dinner here and were impressed. The ambiance is very modern Italian. We ordered the calamari, smoked burrata, and tuna as appetizers. We then shared 3 different pizzas that all had that wood fired taste. The drinks were very good and the staff was friendly. Overall I had a nice time here! The service was very attentive and swift. They even had someone come along and wipe the crumbs away after eating our appetizers. Only downside in my opinion was that they'd take plates away before you even finished eating a handheld bread. Oh and they charged extra service money for cutting and plating the cake my friend brought, which we all wouldn't preferred to cut the cake ourselves in that case! The food was good, but the main dishes were on the small side. I really liked the pesto dish and arugula salad which surprisingly had a lot of dressing so it wasn't too dry or bitter. I tried to add mushrooms and they wouldn't allow it even for an upcharge so that was disappointing. We came here for an anniversary dinner and forgot we had been gifted a gift card, so decided to do it again on a recent night we were doing a show at the Fisher. I've heard a lot of positive things, but wasn't prepared for this spot easily vaulting into my favorites list in Detroit (top 3?). The squash agnolotti is an absolutely incredible dish. We tried the meatballs last visit and they're also incredible. Service is prompt, friendly, has great recommendations. Interior is beautiful, with dim lighting. All the food we've tried is great. The ravioli we got this last visit was delicious, and the pasta we got with the agnolotti the past visit was also excellent and very rich. A surprise within a surprise. This is a restaurant in an old hotel (Shinola) that one would think is just stand fare. Downtown Detroit? We expected rubber chicken and overcooked string beans. We had an amazing dining experience at San Morello. The family recipes are from Southern Italy. We both had My Grandmother's Ravioli which is one of the tastiest I have ever had. The Focaccia was very unique and delicious. It was thick and had a lemon flavored sauce. We had exceptional service. The restaurant was festively decorated for the holidays. Came here for lunch on Memorial Day and it wasn't busy at all. We made a reservation for a party of 6 and were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess as soon as we walked in. The brunch menu was limited, with a few selections for appetizers, pizza, and entree. I opted to order their branzino and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the dish was. The fish itself was flaky and moist, and nicely paired with a piccata sauce which was creamy, yet not overly heavy which was well balanced with just the right amount of citrus. The only thing was I wish the fish skin was more crispy. I ordered the classic wood fire pizza for the kids and unfortunately, they weren't a fan. I didn't try it myself so I can't comment on the taste but there were minimal cheese on there that it looked like it was just sauce and toppings.
