Do not miss the beet salad! We came here for a board retreat dinner and everyone was super happy with their entrees. The focaccia was overdone. Desserts were excellent, albeit the donuts to share @ $24.00 was pretty skimpy. Service was excellent.

What a beautiful restaurant! Loved the attentiveness of service (dedicated waitstaff to each table), and the decor, seating, plating and utensils were all on theme. We tried a lot of fun takes on classics (a Caesar cabbage), and of course had to get the house made pastas and pistachio cake. Yummy times and left full.

Holy mother of God. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Everything was phenomenal. Expensive, for sure, but absolutely amazing. The funny thing is we ended up here by accident because I made our brunch reservations for a place down the street for the wrong day ‍. One of our 7 women has always wanted to try this place and fortunately at 11:30 on Saturday morning they could fit us in! We would recommended everything we tried: -Latte (we had shots of Baileys and Kahlua on the side- highly HIGHLY recommend!) -chef Rachel's mini pastry bakery -frittata (huge!) -Italian Benedict -malted waffle (the best thing I've put in my mouth!) -rustic potatoes (I'm still drooling) -the egg sandwich Our server was so sweet, answered SO many questions, and was very prompt and helpful. The setting is very nice, def upscale, but still very comfortable. The total for 7 meals, 5 sides, 5 lattes with alcohol, and one pastry basket to share was just over $300.00. Not a place to bring the kids for your average weekend brunch, but not a place to miss for a special occasion.

While staying at the Shinola, had dinner at San Morello. Located on the lobby level. It's a large restaurant with plenty of seating and a bar. Good for both small and large parties. SERVICE: We had great service the whole time we stayed here. The servers were very attentive and friendly. They helped our party select very good entrees and dessert. FOOD: We had a large party so they did a prefixed menu. The food was prepared very well. Fresh and flavorful. Short-rib was super tender. Seafood option was fresh and cooked perfectly and, great pasta options. Don't forget to try their desserts - super tasty!!

We went for brunch and it was fabulous!! Set against the backdrop of the Shinola Hotel the ambiance is very nice. It was very busy but they were able to seat us quickly. We started with Peach Bellini's and a variety of breads. The organic yogurt and berries were so delicious. Arguably the best yogurt parfait I've ever had. Next we enjoyed the meatballs which were delectable. Finally, the wild mushroom frittata was outstanding as well. Can't wait to go back for dinner!!

San Morello delivered a really solid dining experience. I had the bolognese and the arugula salad, and both were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The bolognese was hearty without being too heavy, and the salad balanced it out perfectly with a crisp bite. I also tried their Maestro 300 cocktail, which reminded me of a Paloma..refreshing and citrusy with just the right balance. A big highlight was the bartender, who was incredibly knowledgeable about their lineup of spirits. We ended up chatting for over 30 minutes, and it was clear they take pride in both the selection and the craft. Service overall was attentive and welcoming. Great food, great drinks, and an atmosphere that makes you want to come back.

Came to San Morellos for both Dinner and Breakfast as I was staying in the hotel. Overall, I enjoyed the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. The waitstaff were attentive and quite friendly. For dinner we had the squid ink pasta with the crab and corn and the tuna crudo. While the pasta was good, I found it to be quite bland and lacking in umami. I almost never add salt to anything I eat and I felt the need to add some. Also, there was barely any crab in the dish, which was disappointing considering the dish cost $38. For breakfast we had the hotel included breakfast and ordered off the a la carte menu, ordering the fruit plate, sheep's milk ricotta, and an egg dish that tasted somewhat like a pizza. Overall we enjoyed it, but breakfast took us over 2 hours, which is kind of crazy. I would say go to San Morello for the ambiance or the service. As for the food, I think there is still much to be desired.

Great staff, very accommodating and knew the menu down pat. We came as a group for brunch and had breakfast spaghetti, meatballs, shrimp n grits, and the egg sandwich. Food was solid but not extremely memorable. Id come back to try the dinner or just drinks to give it another shot. The ambiance is great though and seems to compensate for the ok food.

All I can say is homemade pasta! Legit amazing! Going with a bunch of people means lots of pasta to sample. Our server was on point. Love that she was a bartender. Very charismatic and on top of everything. For dinner, we ordered my grandma's ravioli, squid ink with fettuccine with blue crab, and the mezzi rigatoni with lamb. Incredible!!

We've been here twice in the last few weeks and the experiences were both stellar. We came here for an anniversary dinner and forgot we had been gifted a gift card, so decided to do it again on a recent night we were doing a show at the Fisher. I've heard a lot of positive things, but wasn't prepared for this spot easily vaulting into my favorites list in Detroit (top 3?). The squash agnolotti is an absolutely incredible dish. We tried the meatballs last visit and they're also incredible. Service is prompt, friendly, has great recommendations. Interior is beautiful, with dim lighting. All the food we've tried is great. The ravioli we got this last visit was delicious, and the pasta we got with the agnolotti the past visit was also excellent and very rich. The bomboloni dessert is so good as well, well worth your time. This place is fantastic - well worth trying out!

I received a credit to San Morello via a Shinola Hotel stay so naturally I ended up there for dinner. I'm not a huge fan of Italian food out, but got a pizza (sans cheese). I tried to add mushrooms and they wouldn't allow it even for an upcharge so that was disappointing. It is very cute and the food was good quality, but I wouldn't stop in again without another credit.

Overall I had a nice time here! The service was very attentive and swift. They even had someone come along and wipe the crumbs away after eating our appetizers. Only downside in my opinion was that they'd take plates away before you even finished eating a handheld bread. Oh and they charged extra service money for cutting and plating the cake my friend brought, which we all wouldn't preferred to cut the cake ourselves in that case! The food was good, but the main dishes were on the small side. I really liked the pesto dish and arugula salad which surprisingly had a lot of dressing so it wasn't too dry or bitter. I also liked the sheep milk cheese spread and it tasted great on the focaccia bread. The place was very dimly lit since we went at night time. But it was a nice intimate setting for such a large spacious restaurant. The staff was nice to allow us to hangout way past closing though, so we appreciated their patience.

Great location, beautiful interior, service was top-notch - food was good. Good not great. Focaccia bread is fantastic, Risotto was just bland, and I waited forever to receive my warm, not hot, scallops. Scallops were okay, not that flavorful. Tried my friend's pasta and it was a bit more al dente than I'd prefer. It's on me.

    My Grandmother's Ravioli. Exceptional!

First, the place is so welcoming. Several different rooms as well as the outside patio, which has bocce ball. It was too warm & humid for us, so we sat inside at a table near the bar. The servers were all very friendly; it seemed a different person brought each course. We had the bread service and calamari for an appetizer. The bread and herb butter were very good, and I understand that it does cost the restaurant to serve it, but $7 seemed like a lot to me. I also enjoyed the calamari. I had the pasta Bolognese (they had some other name for it), which is one of my favorite kinds of pasta. This did not disappoint. I loved the super wide papardelle noodles (also a favorite!) and the small scoop of cheese (burrata, maybe?) on top. My sister had the mushroom pizza (also with a different name). She enjoyed it as well. I am glad they decided to take us there; it was all very good and in a nice atmosphere as well.

If everything is as good as what we ordered this time, I can't wait to try more! Firstly, the natural lighting in here is just fantastic, and I really like the layout - you have a bit more space than some of the other downtown restaurants, and it's fairly quiet. Nice cozy booth seating as well as chairs. The gated parking lot is also a huge plus downtown and service was absolutely excellent. We came on a Sunday to try their all day happy hour, and it did not disappoint. $2 oysters meant that we ordered 2 dozen, and while the east coast varieties tend to be our favorite, their west coast selection was also top notch. Just lovely, salty, briny fresh oysters with a great mignonette. We also both ordered dirty martinis, and they're perfect for $8. We also had the focaccia which comes with this amazing tomato pesto - it tasted like pizza concentrated into a sauce. Yum! And the focaccia is perfect - the kind of bread that makes you remember why bread is so good. Pillowy and soft inside, toasted crispy outside; an amazing app. For dinner, we had the squid ink and seafood pasta, the wild striped bass and the lamb. Everything was absolutely so delicious and perfectly cooked. They split the pasta for us, which was very nice, and I just can't get over the delicious unique flavor of that dish. Outstanding. This pasta is the kind of pasta you want to order when you go out. Lots of yummy seafood, perfectly seasoned al dente pasta, savory sauce. The bass was the most perfectly cooked piece of fish I've had in a long time - crispy skin, tender moist flesh, buttery sauce. And lastly, I was super impressed with the lamb - it was tender yet crispy on the edges, savory and satisfying. If a seafood restaurant is doing lamb this well, I've got to see what else they have to offer. Can't wait to try the tasting menu. Even hubby was impressed and had zero complaints about anything, and he's tough to please. What a gem of a restaurant.

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

Let me say, this was such a fun experience, great company, great food and great service. Cibo Detroit has such an amazing vibe, well lit, bringing in a peaceful but fun energy and great art decor, making it feel very upscale. The food matched the ambience, everything was delicious. The brussel sprouts had the perfect amount of char, the steak was very tender. This is definitely a place we'd go back to at some point!

We came around 5pm so it was still during their new happy hour (4-6, M-F) we ordered some cocktails which were tasty. Cocktails were all $12 during happy hour. We also got two apps from the HH menu, and one app from the regular menu. The pizza tasted like it came from a pizza oven which was great, the palomino dip was rich with flavor, and the shrimp had a great flavor to them. For entrees we got the salmon, meatball, and crab orchettie, probably spelled wrong lol all had good flavor. The polenta with the meat ball was a bit flavorless but over all good. When our bill came we noticed there was 15% gratuity already added and a 5% "service fee" also noticed the HH prices weren't applied. Our waitress did fix it quickly, which was appreciated. Overall a good dinner and will be back to try the brunch.

It's a smaller restaurant, but they make efficient use of the space by utilizing the bar and pizza area for seating. Upon getting there, we were greeted by extremely friendly staff. They did not have any tables available, but they would soon. They told us to walk around, and they would call us. They did, and we had a table within 30 minutes. Every bite of food we ate was divine! The limoncello wings were some of the best wings I have had. I usually don't get excited over calamari, but this calamari was fantastic. Our entrees were extremely delicious. What is not pictured is the octopus appetizer that my son got. Holy moly this was one of the best things we ordered!! I highly recommend this place and will be back on my next visit to Detroit!

I just wanted a quick lunch before heading out later and ended up having a great experience. The bar was pretty lively for a Friday afternoon, even before work officially ended, but I was still able to snag a seat. The staff was super friendly, which made it even better. I ordered the vodka chicken parm along with a drink special since happy hour was just starting. The portion was massive, easily one of the biggest chicken parms I've had, and it came with a full serving of spaghetti. For around $25, the value was excellent. Super filling and really well done. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Great Italian food and great value.
