Loved the vibe here, super cute decor and a playlist that set the tone perfectly without being too loud for conversation. The food delivered as well. The tartare was fresh and unique with lots of greens, and the sourdough toast paired nicely. The cacio e pepe was a standout, we loved it so much we each ordered a second. GOOD GOD. Best potatoes I've ever put in my mouth. Period. I will be dreaming of the potatoes frittos every day until I return to eat them again, and every day after that. They are fried to crispy PERFECTION, coasted with some enchanted salty stuff, plus fried rosemary, and the dip they come with has a hint of lemon and it all just works fabulously. I can't get over how much I enjoyed them. I expected my egg yolk ravioli to be runny, as the server indicated, but the folks were fully cooked. This place is as pretentious as they come. The decor was cool, but that's about where it stopped. The canned way the server talked about "your experience", slow as hell to get our food to us when it was lunch time and not busy, to the utensil handles being so incredibly thin they were hard to use because you couldn't grip them well. And I have smaller hands! The managers in their pastel pink or mint green suits or sport coats - silly. They'd walk by the table eyeing us but never bothered to ask how things were. Now on to the food. We all had the pizza slice which, at a glance, did look delicious. That's where it stopped. It was an overcooked, tough, thick hunk of bread with some cheese, a smidge of sauce, a few teeny basil leaves and mini pepperonis. Like $18 for this - ridiculous. Never again, don't waste your money. I'm not sure why this place has great reviews but it was a total disappointment. Detroit has much better dining options. Two stars for decor. Truly enjoyed my time at Mad Nice. Sat at the bar and was greeted immediately. Actually had two bartenders assisting. The first, I now regret not asking his name, gave me a taste of a beet infused mezxal they are testing for spring and offered to make me a cocktail after seeing that I loved it! The cocktail was amazing. Something I couldn't wait to try again. Asking what the name of it is, he said he made it up. It wasn't one on the menu. So we decided to call it The Melanee, after me of course . I wasn't all that hungry but I ordered a pizza but while waiting I had some of the salad my sister in law ordered. It was delicious. Again, didn't catch the name but it had nuts and radishes tossed in a very different tasting ranch dressing. The pizza was what you'd expect it to be in a top tier Italian restaurant. Crust was just thick enough to hold up the heavy sauce and the toppings were quality. But, what took me over was dessert. So glad Tiana (fantastic server, I did get her name) suggested we take a look. I'm a sucker for a good Gelato and once I saw it on the menu I had to get it. But all I saw was for $25. This place should change their name to MAD DELICIOUS. Located roughly 1 mile from downtown Detroit, this place was super cool. The decor was very unique(See attached pics). There is plenty of on street parking for in the neighborhood and a Valet lot for $15. The atmosphere was dope, the music was a really nice vibe. The service was incredible, our server Elijah was on point, he was knowledgeable about the menu and even warned us that the Gem Salad was more than enough to split. This has only been my second time here but I absolutely ADORE this restaurant! We came for brunch on our anniversary weekend and enjoyed our entire experience here! I love all the pinks and greens in there. The interior is so aesthetically pleasing! We were given an anniversary card which is super sweet! Walked in with a reservation on hand for 5:30pm and noticed the pink velvet everywhere. And here's what else I noticed. The tops of all pink velvet chairs and booths were dirty. Hands on top of velvet over and over again, be it customer or staff, is bound to make the highly absorbent material dirty. Once seated we both noticed how warm it was inside the restaurant. I then asked the manager/sommelier if he could turn up his AC a bit. He acted like this was going to be a p.i.t.a to accomplish. The couple seated snuggly next to us mouthed to me "thank you." Lo and behold he came back to us and said, "You should be feeling the air conditioning soon." I showered him with thank you's. Was it turned off? We had a 5:30pm reservation and the place opened at 5pm. Maybe that should be part of their opening SOP's? 1) Check air conditioning turned on. Anyhow, we were then given warm water to drink. Within two minutes I asked for a glass of ice. Come on now! Is that not part of their opening SOP's? 2) Fill water vessels with ice and water. Service was spotty. My friend's Uovo ravioli was awful. My spaghetti with pomodoro was delicious. The ravioli was way too al dente. And the sauce was awful. All we tasted was hot chilis. It overpowered whatever else we were supposed to taste. Been wanting to try this place for a long time, and I'm so glad we finally did for a birthday celebration. The decor and vibe inside are awesome--they completely transformed the space. The standout dish of the night was the Duck Pastrami Cavatelli with parmesan broth, cured egg yolk, and sambuca. I know what you're thinking--sambuca in pasta? But trust me, it was incredible and so creative. The flavors blended beautifully and felt like elevated comfort food. Our server was super friendly and even helped us decide on a few dishes. She mentioned they try to make everything in-house whenever possible, which is always a great touch. The pizza was also very good! One unique dish we tried but didn't love as much was the Egg Yolk Ravioli with kombucha, chili, and black truffle. Still interesting, just not our favorite. Everyone so kind and made sure we were taken care of amazingly especially the two female bartenders they were lovely and always on it. This place reminded me of LA! IT has an open kitchen, very reminiscent of all the restaurants in LA. Everything is very high quality and deliberate. We got a margherita pizza, the uovo ravioli (comes with 4 egg yolk reviolis), cacio e pepe, and the burrata. Overall, the pizza was my favorite, followed by the cacio e pepe, burrata, and lastly the uovo ravioli. I think the food is excellent I just didnt love the flavors in the uovo ravioli it felt like there was too much going on. I loved the presentation of the pizza. The service is excellent. To start, the restaurant is gorgeous inside and very instagrammy, it has a cabana meets casual luxe / girly vibe to it yet with great food that makes this such a fun restaurant to visit and eat at. For parking, there is ample street parking or valet (I believe it's $15). We had the sourdough bread starter which was delicious plus the olive sourdough / dukka starter which is some sort of Egyptian dip and very tasty with the pesto added. The olive sourdough was different and had a nice panini sear on it plus real olives in it. I had an amazing cocktail from the California vibes menu that had a little rose water in it and vodka and aperol, it was tasty and not too sweet yet easy to drink and refreshing. I also had an amazing Italian sweet red bubbly wine by the glass which was incredible. I got the margherita pizza which is served with some nice metallic scissors for cutting it / for pizazz, lol. It was a good portion for one person or if you wanted to split could do that too probably with another side. Zeppoli Caviar - Salty and sweet,,, altogether is an insane combination. 9/10 Cinnamon Roll - It's a little firmer on the texture,,, its indicative of the sourdough thats in it. It's a nice and different roll. 7.2/10 Mushroom Toastie - The mushroom dip is phenomenal. Toasted sourdough has perfect char. 9.5/10 Steak and Eggs Bennie - the steak on top Good and perfect. After looking at other reviews, it seems like my issues with Mad Nice aren't new or unique. Before I dive into this review, I want to say that I would really like to come back here for brunch and reevaluate, because I've heard great things. The vibes in here are awesome, and my mom noted that it would be great for a bachelorette party meal. The ambiance is so cute! The main reason I wasn't super sold on Mad Nice for dinner was because the menu is not super gluten allergy/sensitivity friendly, and the prices were high for me to not really be able to eat something I wanted. I definitely should have called to check if there were GF options for pizza or pasta, but most places of this price point do offer accommodations now, so I didn't think twice. It sounded like the only truly GF dish on the menu was salad (there weren't a lot of appetizers I could eat either). The rotisserie chicken dish I ended up getting was decent, but they had to take off gluten ingredients, and it didn't necessarily meet my expectations given the price (which may have been due to the missing ingredients). In the future, I would really like to see Mad Nice expand to offer GF pasta and pizza dough or offer some substantial GF menu items as many other places in the area do so that I can enjoy some of the meals they're known for, rather than having to modify a meal past recognition. Overall, I loved the vibe here and my mom really enjoyed her food, so I don't want to knock it as a whole- I just would've had a much better experience with some truly GF options that weren't just salad.
