My cousin wanted to check out Mad Nice so the three of us made plans to grab dinner here this past Sunday. The interior is definitely inspired by California styled restaurants (chic with the color pink being the center of it all) with its lighter colors and dim lighting. There's an open kitchen, as well. Between the three of us, we weren't too hungry and started off with two items to share: SPAGHETTI AL POMODORO - 26 The spaghetti was al dente with a good texture, but the sauce was quite bland and lacked seasoning. This tasted like something I could make at home with a fancier store-bought sauce. The portion size was small and it was literally just pasta with sauce for 26.00. Definitely not worth it since nothing about this was elevated. SHROOMS - 26 For a supposedly thin crust pizza, it had a thick crust that took up maybe a 1/3 of each slice which was pretty unbalanced. The mushroom pizza was well seasoned with lots of fresh mozzarella and whipped ricotta that was delightful. However, the crust ruined it for all of us. It was pretty sour and not very fluffy, pretty hard to bite into almost like it was stale. While the toppings were fine, I thought the dough was very disappointing. To note, they charge 2.00 per person for still water here (which they do not tell you until you get your bill) because they don't have the filtered system set up (?). Portion sizes were small and the food was not great, and even though we could have eaten more, we didn't want to be disappointed further. We came here for a nice dinner out and had mixed feelings. We got the little gem salad (forgot to take a picture), brussel sprouts (also forgot a pic), shroom pizza, and rigatoni ragout. The reason we had mixed feelings is because the food was overall pretty food however we felt the service was lacking. We ordered 1 appetizer, 1 side, and two entrees and we thought that the two entrees would come out at similar times, however the pizza came out almost 20 minutes after the pasta and the pasta was cold by the time the pizza came out. It also didn't help that the table next to us that had ordered later than us but got all their food before us. We just thought it was a big strange that the two warm dishes came out at such different times, our server was hard to reach and we were a bit disappointed. For food reviews: The little gem salad was super delicious, fresh and was a big portion size. Brussel sprouts are not your typical brussel sprouts as they are kind of deconstructed and come out as a cold dish. It was good but probably wouldn't get it again. Shroom pizza was good. Excellent in every way. I had dinner here last week with a couple of friends who had been here before but I had not. I asked our server to walk me through the menu and to make some recommendations. We started with the sourdough bread and another appetizer, a few entrées (pasta and chicken) to share plus a mushroom pizza. Plus a couple of cocktails. We ate our way through the food enjoying every bite. The pasta dish was excellent. The half chicken was something I would come back and eat all by myself. Same goes for the mushroom pizza. None of us had room for dessert but this would be a great place to come back to for dessert and coffee or an espresso martini. Our service was great. Our server was very attentive, knew her way through the menu, and offered excellent suggestions The ambience is beautiful. You get the feeling like you're in a tropical oasis and not in the middle of Detroit and I mean that in a nice way. Nice atmosphere, great service and good food. We started off with a couple of drinks and liked the 55 Thunderbird the best. We enjoyed the Little Gem Salad (very large!), Rigatoni Ragout (very good), Cacio y PePe (a bit watery and salty) with a side of Jicama Slaw (we got the dressing on the side). We enjoyed the Little Gem and Rigatoni the best. There is a huge bar in the middle of the restaurant, large half circle booths and several tables for large groups. It's a large space and we saw a private parking lot but found street parking. I also love that some of the tables have purse hooks underneath! We enjoyed our meal and could recommend to others (although we've had better Cacio y Pepe elsewhere). This is a fun place for a weekend brunch or large groups. They do a good job, 4 stars for sure. Made a reservation to this place for a friends birthday. We looked up other brunch/lunch places and decided on this one. The restaurant provides valet or you can park on the street. It was not hard to find a spot. However, there are alot of other places to go to in the area so might be hard at times. When walking in we were greeted and walked to our table. The hostess was super nice as well as our waiter. The waiter was very accommodating as we had someone.at our table who had a nut allergy. He was very informative about the menu and what she could and could not have. If he did not know the answer he got us the answer and kept us informed. We went to Mad Nice in Detroit for brunch today, and it was quite the experience! First, I want to shout out the bartender, Justin, who was absolutely amazing. He made us some custom, alcohol-free drinks that tasted like vacation in a glass; so refreshing and unique. As for the food, it was incredible as usual. We had the street waffle, the little gem salad with rotisserie chicken, and the omelette. However, today's visit was not the best experience food-wise. First, I was really upset by one simple thing: they wouldn't make me a single scrambled egg! I asked for just an egg, and the bartender, who was super apologetic, went and checked with the kitchen. Unfortunately, he came back saying the chef wouldn't allow eggs to be served separately for brunch. Who doesn't serve eggs during brunch? It's brunch! Then, in one of my bites of the omelette, there was a piece of string that came out of my mouth. At first, I didn't know what it was and tried to chew it, but it turned out to be a string. The bartender said it was probably from one of the meats they smoked in-house. What a beautiful restaurant; had a very elegant, serene vibe. We loved our girls night here and the server was a sweetheart. We were able to find free street parking on a weeknight, bonus! My main complaint is that I don't like spicy food and almost all of their food items had chili pepper in them and couldn't be ordered without. I thought the food was good value for the money, maybe a little expensive (especially the mocktails were an alcoholic beverage price). I ordered the earth mocktail and it was very refreshing. It had cucumber, mint, lemon, soda and was just the right amount of sweetness. We got the shroom pizza and that was probably my favorite food- it is thin crust but not too crunchy, still nice and doughy. There was a dollop of ricotta on top that gave it a nice creamy finish. Also ordered the pork belly corn ravioli- I was worried this one would be spicy but it was very well balanced. The broccoli is the one thing I thought was spice safe but it had a big kick. Also got the cucumber corn feta salad and it was light and tasty but the long strings of cucumber was a little tough to split and eat. We got the gelato sandwich for dessert and split between 3- 3 cookies and the perfect sized sweet treat. First, let's shoutout my cousin who is one of the chefs there that suggested I come to visit him for Sunday dinner. His suggestions were so helpful. He suggested the Bronzino, but we didn't get it this time, but we'll try next time. 1. Corn & cucumber salad: 10/10 -flavorful, crisp, light and refreshing. Tastes like summer in your mouth. 2. Chilled Lobster Insalata: 10/10-layers of flavors and refreshing. Loved it! 3. Sourdough: 10/10- the olive oil and the whipped butter and a little bit of salt just altogether taste so delicious with the bread. 4. Short Rib: 8.5/10- very tender, literally falling off of the bone, can cut with your fork. However, the sauce was a little sweet and that was unexpected for a short rib. I'm more familiar with a savory flavor for short ribs but overall good. I loved the squash on there, added a nice touch. 5. Chocolate cake: 9/10: very good if you like chocolate. Has a nice creaming filling on top of the chocolate cake. 6. Cannoli with gelato: 10/10 the perfect little dessert. It had the perfect balance of something sweet, but not overly sweet; just right! You seriously charged us $2 for each glass of tap water? I took my wife out to Mad Nice for date night. There are parking spots on the street (all filled), but they do have valet for $15. The restaurant is large with an open kitchen design and a large bar in the middle. Large, dimly lit lights that changed colors are throughout the restaurant with large speakers that played an odd selection of electronic-style music. The restaurant also pumps in a scent into the area (and bathroom) that I said was akin to grandma's perfume; it was not pleasant and gave me a headache shortly after arriving. After a short wait, we were shown to our table which was a two top that was positioned very close to the neighboring tables (18 inches away). After perusing the drink menu, it was clear that this restaurant is charging ABSURD PRICES for drinks. Eagle Rare for $30 a pour when the bottle is $40 retail? Lagavulin 16 for $50 a pour when the bottle is $100 retail? Right down the list, the prices are way out of line. Total unacceptable in my book to have this large of an upcharge on straight pours. Our waitress came back after quite some time with our drinks. We asked about the chef's special which our waitress told us about, but didn't give any hints or pointers or suggestions about the menu at all. (I did see a waiter a couple of tables over going into great detail about the food and making suggestions.) We ended up ordering Sour Dough Bread ($10) for an starter, Egg Ravioli ($34) and a Margherita Pizza ($24). The sourdough was OK, but seemed to lack salt. The sweet cream butter and olive oil were very good though. The Egg Ravioli was the highlight of the meal. 3 Ravioli were serviced. The flavor was great and the egg was cooked perfectly, but the pasta was a little under on the bottom of the ravioli making it a little too toothsome and chewy. The Margherita Pizza was just OK. The bones of the crust was good, but the center of the pizza was quite floppy and underdone with the sauce leaning acidic in parts and sweet in other parts; it was quite strange to have big variations in the same pizza. Overall, I believe there to be a standard in dining especially when you are charging the prices Mad Nice is charging and this restaurant fell well short of that standard. The prices are way, way too high for the quality of food and service. Again, NO ONE should be charging for plain water and NO ONE should be charging the absurd prices for your liquor. I would absolutely not go back to this restaurant as there are numerous other choices in the area that charge less for their food and deliver better quality food and service. read more

Came here for lunch with my sister. The first thing that caught our eyes immediately was the interior decor. So beautiful, pink, girlie, brunch vibes! We loved all the florals and the detail that went into the interior design. We ordered the margherita pizza and potato fritters. The dough used on the pizza tasted very authentic! It took me back to the pizza i've had in New York and Italy. The sauce used on the pizza was a bit too marina like; a simpler tomato sauce would pair really well if used. The name says it all! The space is beautiful and well laid out, with no detail left unnoticed. The staff were super knowledgable about each item, offering their recommendations and favorites. We ordered bread to start, two pastas and a pizza: Italian carb heaven. The dishes were well-portioned, and each bite was full of delectable flavors. What's nice about the pizza is that you get a pair of scissors, allowing you to easily slice the pie exactly how you want. The gelato was the biggest portion I've ever been served - we couldn't eat it all, even between the three of us. It was quite delicious, and something we'll definitely be ordering again.
