Honestly such a great speciality coffee shop! Ordered their Juliana Guevara Sidra on pour over and it was awesome. I would say light-medium roast. The notes of grapefruit definitely come thru. Also got to try the coffee flight of the Alirio Munoz bourbon. One of the best macchiatos I've ever had. Miles and Sahara were also super gracious and hospitable. Would definitely recommend for any coffee aficionados. Hands down best shop and service in town.
Espresso cascara tonic- freaking fantastic! I've been loving all the espresso tonic creations at coffee shops and this one was one of the better ones. Service was as fast as it could be. One barista making what seemed like a hundred drinks all by himself, it was impressive. Beautiful spot with a lot of seating; I wish it was closer to me! Their coffee is incredible, it's extremely smooth.
The prices here are on the higher end, with a vanilla latte being $7. Their seasonal drinks looked DELICIOUS, and I wanted to try their coffee, but I was avoiding caffeine so went with the herbal marshmallow tea instead. I really appreciate that the self-serve station had both half&half and oat milk, as well as a sweetener option. There is extremely minimal seating, just a few standing tables and stools at a skinny window bar. The vibe is definitely a grab-and-go place, although there were one or two people working. There are several benches outside and, being in the heart of downtown Detroit, there are so many other great places to check out nearby.
If you're a coffee lover, chances are you know the name Madcap. Since it's such a well-known roaster, my expectations were high. The design of the shop is stylish inside and out, and the menu strikes a nice balance -- focused but still offering variety, with 5-6 beans for pour overs, classic drinks, and seasonal specialties. My biggest disappointment was with the pour over. I ordered the most expensive option (the coffee description caught me), specifically asked for it "for here," and still received it in a paper cup. For a roaster of this reputation, that was surprising -- and a little disheartening. The coffee itself was good, especially as it cooled and floral notes came through, but the subtle paper taste took away from the experience. The fall specialty nitro cold brew was also underwhelming -- too sweet for my taste and missing the cream top that was pictured on the menu. Overall, I'd still recommend Madcap if you're visiting Detroit--more because it feels like a "must-do" than because I truly enjoyed it.
My wife and I came here for some coffee and vibes, coffee was very good! Atmosphere is great, would definitely work remotely from here. The standing tables are a great use of space. Service was very fast and staff were excellent!
Always great service! The barista at the counter was so cool and let me know the next seasonal drinks coming out! Ambiance is everyone is up and ready to start the day it's a chill place.

This place also has a very nice space inside and outside to chill and have you coffee. One of my favorite coffee places in Detroit, no doubt.
Big fan of minimalist black and white design with plants. Usually that's the ticket for me. Madcap is real nice inside. They have 3 rows of stand up table space that have hooks for you to hang your bag as you sip and chat it up your coffee pals. Really nice touch to have that space. They have a cool bar setup that have large windows to let in lots of natural light. I had the smorelette one day and a coffee flight the next day. Smorelette was ok, tasted a little watered down and just ok. 3/5. The coffee flight was really good. I got coffee, a shot of espresso, and espresso with coffee. Great way to taste their ability to make coffee. Located next to a cool alley.
The space is decent minimal seating so I guess they don't want you to stay and co work or meet with friends. The chai had potential whatever the seasonings and stuff they sprinkle on top they should for sure keep them to their selves because it's truly not good and doesn't pair well with the chai. The customer service was excellent though
I've loved Madcap's coffee online for years and finally visited in person. Cool location parking was a bit tricky, but worth it. The pour over and pumpkin loaf were excellent.
AMBIANCE While a gorgeous minimalist space in downtown area and trendy in appearance with high ceilings and high tops (but no seats with backs), we were very disappointed. It's not a spot to hang out for long. FOOD/DRINK Despite visiting before and having poor experiences pulling shots with their beans, we were visiting the area and ordered the coffee to give it a shot given the reviews we read. We've tried several across Michigan so far and were heavily disappointed by this overpriced 10 oz "supposedly fig jam, tangerine" boiled water. It was definitely overrated at $8.50 and not worth the trek. The best part was unfortunately the Japanese drink-ware. SERVICE The service was adequate given the afternoon non-rush. OVERALL Perhaps the milk drinks are better. We will surely not be coming back here again for such average but overpriced coffee!
My favorite Matcha spot in the downtown Detroit area, hands down!! Bright, open and airy inside. Open air seating outside as well spilling into a beautiful alley that allow you to visit other quaint shops while you sip. Helpful and friendly baristas answered my questions about the quality of the Matcha. I had a hot Matcha latte to start the morning with while I took a Matcha tea to go and my husband ordered a Mocha. We noticed there was Mad Cap Flash canned cold coffee at the airport so we purchased some cans for home!! read more

Coffee for grown ups served by charming intelligent people who demonstrate a passion and pride in their excellent product. This particular location, just off Parker's alley, exudes a true city vibe with indoor standing tables and outdoor seating. They carry a bevy of interesting single origin coffee beans for purchase that explore the depths well beyond the usual and support small batch farm cooperatives. For coffee enthusiasts...Madcap is not to be missed. read more

Super cute and modern coffee shop! Drinks were expensive for the size, but the quality of the drink I ordered was superb. I ordered a special drink called the "Oh Honey," and it was amazing! It had a melon cold foam on the top, which truly sent it to the next level. It's definitely a cool place to checkout if you're in town! read more
Madcap is located directly downtown, so it's always a convenient stop for coffee. I stopped by to try the coffee flight and it was great. It has a great ambiance and a go-to spot to grab coffee while exploring downtown. read more
Love the fact that our city has grown so much and we get to come back and explore! I wanted to see what local coffee shops were nearby and madcap was down the street from us so we decided to check it out! This place was great! From the friendliness of the cashier to the sleek and modern design inside the coffee shop, it's no wonder people come here. I ordered the vanilla latte (hot) and my husband ordered one of their fancier drinks (forgot the name but I believe it was a seasonal drink that was orange and came with a dried orange slice on top) which he got his cold. My vanilla latte made with house made vanilla syrup was simple yet delicious! I must say I feel like with local coffee shops, they just get my order right-I never have to add anything or it never tastes bitter or unsweetened. My latte was perfect even my husband enjoyed it. I think he actually liked mine more than his! And the latte art was chef's kiss! Unfortunately as for pastries, I believe they had pastries but we didn't see much on display so we assumed they ran out. Parking also was an issue (street parking) but that's expected when your downtown anywhere; we parked in a parking structure so we had to pay and walk over to the coffee shop but it was worth it, we were able to sightsee and walk around (a quick walk) to see parts of downtown that we haven't seen in a long time. Also it was a beautiful day! Definitely check this place out, I plan to come back! read more

3.5 stars Definitely loved the clean minimalistic aesthetic, very very cute. I ordered their iced matcha latte and it felt kinda dull. I couldn't really get that hit of vibrant matcha if that makes sense. I could also taste the GRANULES??? Probably cuz they didn't whisk it enough but the texture kinda threw me off (it was like a wee bit...sandy). But overall cute place and maybe next time i'll get a mocha instead :) read more

Is a having an attitude part of the baristas' job description? If so, they deserved a MadCap award. Even though my coffees were perfectly displayed and delicious, the baristas attitude ruined my excitement of visiting Madcap for the first time. The aesthetics and ambiance of the coffeeshop was nice! It reminded me of the city-version of Sago Coffee which is a modern, minimalist-style coffee shop in a beach community. read more

Located in Parker's Alley Always worth a stop in when you're in the downtown detroit area! Madcap has such lovely and unique offerings. This most recent time, I sprang for the fall seasonal drink: Manitou Sunset, named after the islands just west of Leland, MI, is a play on the Old Fashioned. Created by Leland barista Dj, this drink combines iced espresso with a spiced vanilla syrup and a bitters ice cube. I didn't realize you can order ahead but apparently you can! Probably worth doing so if you're in a rush or impatient as there's usually quite the wait. Yes, and good coffee takes time. read more

Delicious coffee and teas, and nice variety of both. They also sell fun coffee paraphernalia. Excellent service. Delicious and unique coffees, flavorful and served with a smile. We had a latte and regular espresso. A little pricey compared to other local coffee spots, but if you're a connoisseur of coffee and look forward to a well-crafted coffee, don't pass Madcap! I really enjoy this coffee spot. It is very aesthetically appealing and the location is stellar with it being close to so much downtown! Their seasonal menu can be a little difficult to understand if you aren't a barista, so don't be afraid to ask what ingredients are in each of the offerings. Their lattes, cappuccino, pour over coffees are top notch! Their apparel, bagged coffee, and mugs are very underrated- very clean style- great for gifts! Please note that this is not a good "working" location as there are only standing tables. There are a couple bistro tables outside though! read more
One of the first things I researched before arriving in Detroit was coffee. Specifically coffee found outside of my hotel and not one of the ubiquitous chains found nationwide. Thankfully Madcap coffee was literally less than 1 block away. They make an excellent cappuccino with oat milk and they sell their blends for those who love unique flavors of their premium specialty coffee. Unfortunately their spinach and feta "croissant" was neither a croissant nor remarkable. They were sold out of their regular croissants, so I can not confirm nor deny the tastiness of any other pastry they offer. Their staff is wonderful, and the space is perfect for people watching, reading, or working, with counter height seats facing a window and stand up tables in the middle with hooks for bags underneath the tables. read more
