The restaurant was so beautiful on the inside. But overall it was lackluster. I will cut them some slack and assume some of the missteps were because it was a busy Valentines weekend. The food tasted really good but it took over an hour and a half to receive it. The steak had a great flavor but we had to send it back twice and ultimately just not wanting it because they could not cook a medium rare steak to save their lives. The wait stay was really good and attentive otherwise.

We came here for brunch after staying the night in the hotel. I have been here several times but only for drinks and I was very excited to try their food. Their drinks were spot on. I love eggs Benedict and decided on the crab cake eggs Benedict. Omg!!! The best. I absolutely pigged out. It was sooo good. I will say that although the bartender was sweet and very personable, he was also pretty slow though. The place was hopping and needed someone who could keep up. Either way, we enjoyed ourselves and look forward to coming back!

Very nice spot on a corner with valet parking. We happened in and they were able to seat the three of us for dinner. It was about 6pm. If you have somewhere to be, this is not the place to eat on a Saturday night. It's a posh dining room with huge windows, elegant tables and low lights. The server was very nice but slow and forgetful. I ordered the steak frites which was perfect. Perfect temp, great little salad and the most delicious French fries. Mom had Mac and cheese side. It was rich and flavorful with a bit of a crust on top. My husband's smash burger was fine but he said the cheese was odd. All and all a good visit but much slower than expected. Server greeted us saying she'd be back and she didn't come back. We asked the host just for some water. We were ready to order food before we had drinks and she forgot the appetizer, which finally came out with the food. Wine list is fine but small. The Love Letter from Annette was very sweet but good. The coffee is amazing. Highly recommended if considering.

Located inside The Godfrey Hotel, this restaurant is gorgeous. It's simple, modern, and the aesthetics were everything. While I was capturing some of the views, there was a woman with braids sitting with her laptop who started shouting at me not to record her. I completely understand why people don't want to be in pictures, but since she seemed like she worked there, it felt a little unprofessional. It did leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Aside from that, we were seated quickly and noticed there's even outdoor seating available. The music was a mix of 90s and early 2000s R&B, which immediately put us in a good mood. For drinks, my friend and I ordered pineapple mimosas, and they were amazing. I even asked if they were made with fresh pineapple juice because they were that good. The only con was that they weren't bottomless. For food, my friend ordered the hashbrowns, and I had the pancakes with a side of bacon. Both were amazing. The bacon was perfectly crispy with a portion size that exceeded expectations, and the pancakes had the perfect balance of crisp and softness paired with syrup. Just so good. My friend really enjoyed her hashbrowns too, she just mentioned they could've used some hot sauce. Our server was attentive the whole time, which I appreciated. Despite the awkward encounter in the beginning, I'd definitely come back for brunch or dinner and would recommend this spot. The decor and aesthetic make it a great place for celebrations, work events, or birthdays. Thank you for having us! PS: This is a 4.5 / 5 review

While staying at The Godfrey we went here for breakfast twice. Both times everything was really good, except the pancakes, which were very average according to my husband. The ambiance is lovely, with a calm and modern vibe and service was friendly. The standouts were the potatoes and chicken sausage. I recommend Hamilton's whether staying at the hotel or not.

The staff was excellent! Extremely kind and helpful. The restaurant itself is very nice casual place for drinks. Would not recommend the food though. Went with a party of 6 and all of the party did not like any of the food options. Def don't come for the food

Honestly, Hamilton's has become one of my new favorite spots in Corktown. Located in the Godfrey Hotel, the atmosphere gives a casual, yet modern and luxurious feel, making it the perfect spot for a date, meeting with friends, or dinner with family. The cocktails are classy and unique; my personal favorite being the Garden of Daisies, rimmed with hibiscus sugar! One of the best cocktails I've had! The oysters, ahi tuna crudo tartine, and lobster bisque were absolutely delightful! Their lobster bisque was velvety and generous with sweet lobster, and easily is the best lobster bisque I've had in metro Detroit. I really enjoyed the unique combination of the summer bean salad with lemon-lavender vinaigrette! The only critique from my friend and I was that the salad was pretty pepper heavy, so next time I will ask for less pepper seasoning. The final ending was the dessert and it sure did complete the whole experience. Even if you're full, you must order the bougie-dark chocolate cheesecake... and thank me later. Overall incredible experience and I am looking forward to returning soon! The service, presentation and attention to detail is second to none!

This restaurant is a 10/10 in all areas! We came here for my birthday on a Thursday night, we were greeted quickly and sat. The restaurant is very open, bright and airy. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The food was all amazing. The seafood items were so fresh and delicious. We got the whole branzino for the table to share and it was very flakey, with great flavor. We shared multiple apps and dishes (in the photos) it was a great meal and we will definitely be back.

Came here for Valentine's Day and was super excited to try the food and see the restaurant for the first time. We of course expected it to be busy given that it was Valentine's Day, but was quite disappointed in the service we got. Our reservation was for 8:45pm and we didn't get sat until about 9:10pm. Our server rarely came to check up on us throughout the meal and we noticed that it seemed to be the same situation for all of the tables next to us as well. Many tables next to us were getting champagne or free desserts due to the poor service. We got the spinach artichoke dip (very delicious) as an appetizer and it took at least 30 min to arrive. Our entrees took at least another 20-30 min to arrive after that. I got the rigatoni alla vodka with chicken and while it was very good it was a bit cold which was disappointing after waiting so long. We also got the steak frites which was very tasty as well. We finished our entrees and visibly were ready to pay the check for at least 30 minutes until our server finally came back to us. She would come to one table next to us, assist them with something, and then immediately leave without coming to visit any of her other tables. Once the server finally came back to ask if we needed anything, we asked for to go boxes and for a dessert to go. We wanted the chocolate mousse with ice cream but she was not sure which dessert we wanted exactly so she brought us the menu and then left. We waited at least 10 minutes for her to return with the to go boxes (which all of the tables next to us had their food boxes up by staff but we did not) and to tell her which dessert we wanted to go. She then left again and we received our dessert to go from the manager almost 10 minutes later. At this point we were still waiting to recieve the bill. Our server would be no where to be seen for several minutes, come to a table and start talking to customers for a very long time (complained about how she really didn't want to work tonight, which I feel was an interesting thing to say to one of her tables) while we sat there waiting to receive the bill. She finally came back and asked if there was anything else we needed even though our to go boxes have been bagged up and we've been waiting with our card ready to go on the table for at least 25 minutes if not more. Finally she came back with bill and was about to immediately leave again when she dropped it off but we handed the card to her right away as we were more than ready to leave. We ended up not leaving until about 11:15pm. We were super excited to finally try Hamilton's and like I previously said, we very much anticipated that it would be busy due to it being Valentine's Day, but for a lot of our experience we were our servers only table and yet we still ended up waiting much longer than we should have. Overall the food was delicious and it was a super cute atmosphere, but the service was quite disappointing.

If potatoes are on the menu, I'm ordering them!!!! These breakfast potatoes didn't disappoint. Crunchy exterior, well seasoned and fluffy interior. The eggs Benedict wasn't the best I've had, but not terrible. Bacon was cooked to perfection. An Irish coffee is never a bad idea....I was quite happy!!!! Beautiful decor, really nice staff, windows facing Michigan Ave so great for people watching.

One of the best Dirty Martinis I've had in Detroit, and the vanilla hints on the back end of this super smooth Bourbon were comforting and delicious.

I had the chance to attend a special event at Hamilton's and it was amazing. Vino and Vibes was such a cute concept...wine tasting and charcuterie board construction. The chef came and explained the various items including regions of the cheese, how each meat was cured and the various jams created for the event. The sommelier explained the 3 wine options and discussed which would pair well with the charcuterie board items. It was even a charcuterie board building competition. It was a really well crafted event. Kudos to Tee for a great time.

Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

We ended up being placed on the "veranda" which was an enclosed space with about 4-5 tables. They had heaters, but fortunately, it was warm enough that they were not needed. SERVICE - my friend made it well known that we were there for my birthday, but I'd like to think even without the birthday drop, we would have gotten great service. Our server was friendly, attentive and made a number of recommendations to help guide our dining experience. MENU - Grey ghost has a rotating menu, with a few items that our consistently featured (I'll talk about my burger later). An interesting array of starters including brussel sprouts and coconut shrimp as well as a great variety of main entrees. I feel like there was something for all tastes at this place. They also had a good variety of cocktails and mocktails. FOOD - We started off with shrimp tempura which had a tropical salad of some sort served with it. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the tropical salad really complimented it very well. We also decided to try their home made Rock and Rye (their take on Faygo's marquee drink of the same name). The Rock and Rye was decent, but if you want rock and rye, nothing beats the original. For our main dishes, a number of things caught our eye. including the lamb and ribeye, but we ended up going with their burger and a side of fries and their wild boar pappardelle. I've heard Grey Ghost has one of the best burgers in Detroit, and it did not disappoint. And you know we had put an egg on it and it was rocking. I don't know what the burger sauce they put on it was, but it seemed like a much, MUCH better executed big mac. The fries were great as well. The pappardelle was good, nothing mind blowing, but a solid entree in it's own right. I was curious how the burger here compares to the one at their sister restaurant (Little Ghost) and the host said the quality of meat used in the patty is better at Grey Ghost than little ghost. Guess I'm going to have to go there as well. OVERALL - definitely worth a visit. I'd say a good spot for a first date, or some other sort of special occasion. I won't wait as long to make a trip back to this place, that's for sure. CELEBRITY RATING - Collin Jost

We had tried to use them in 2022, but were told the restaurant was small and could not accommodate our party of 8, even early on a Sunday. Fast forward 4 years! We made a reservation for a party of 4. It would've been nice to know the restaurant was on the second floor with no elevator, but perhaps that is my lack of inquiry. We were warmly greeted. Our server was absolutely fantastic! She made wonderful recommendations, and our meal was delicious! We had the crab dip, cornbread muffins, fried chicken and catfish entrees with yams and collard greens. Our family is from the South (KY, NC, TN, VA, MS, & AL) and we cook southern food on a regular basis. The yams were perfectly cooked and sweetened. The collard greens had just enough density, not runny or too salty. YUM!!! The chicken was tasty and moist. Catfish was seasoned and prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious also. Served with Frank's! We finished it off with the skillet cookie dessert, shared by all. A great way to end a really wonderful meal. The restaurant wasn't busy, so food service could've been a little faster, but we enjoyed a leisurely early dinner. My only other comment is that with glass top tables, you almost have to use Windex when tables turn over. The water streaks on all the glass top just make it look more like a greasy spoon or diner and does not do justice to the great service or the quality of the food. I don't usually do catfish at home, so we will be back for more!
