We went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The crowd seemed to be split between locals and travelers and they did not seem overly crowded. There were 3 waitresses running the tables. We waited *45 minutes* for french toast, during which the waitress did not visit our table to apologize for the wait. We understand that good food takes a while (and the french toast certainly was good) but it should not take almost an hour for diner food. The menu is unfortunately pretty limited - no pancake + eggs/meat options for breakfast. I wouldn't say this is the worst place (like I said, the french toast was good!), but I have had much better service and experiences at other mom & pop - type diners on the interstate. read more

Sam's used to be our favorite restaurant when we visited Kellogg, but it has changed over the past few years. Their recipes have changed and the quality of food has gone down. Last time I ate there, I ended up with a severe allergic reaction to chicken strips. They are either using breading that contains tree nuts or sesame or their oil is contaminated. I have had chicken strips there many times so they need to be more careful about food preparation. Very disappointed because we used to love to eat there and now have to avoid it. Lots of good options in Kellogg to try before Sam's. read more

Food tasted like old grease. My order was not prepared as ordered. Waitress didn't even write it on the ticket, so it wasn't the cooks fault. I won't be going back. read more

We stopped in to Sam's for breakfast while on a road trip from Washington to Montana, preferring a hot meal to a grab-and-go at the start of the day. The waitress greeted us and quickly took our order. Then we waited, and waited...and waited. After 45 minutes, I asked the waitress whether our orders had been started in the kitchen. When she confirmed with the cook that they hadn't been, we opted to cancel our order to get back on the road. The food that other diners were eating looked good, but we just didn't have the time to invest. I just have never encountered another diner that operates at such a slow pace. read more

So, we stopped in on our way through because the place had decent reviews but if this is the only thing Kellogg has to offer they're doomed! Where do I begin, the carpet was disgusting and the service sucked! The food was ok at best, bland, the fries were under cooked and the side salad was some lettuce thrown on a plate with some slices of tomatoes that were browning, could at least add a crouton or a slice of cucumber. The fry sauce was bland, we weren't even told about the soup/ salad bar or the specials & the waitress's climbs on top of he counters with her dirty shoes to write the specials on the board. We will just keep driving next time. read more

Great breakfast, and OMG the cinnamon rolls! Huge and awesome! Service good, your basic diner. Food good, it made us happy.

We were pass through on our way to Montana and decided to stop. I ordered chili cheese fries and my dad ordered the fish and chips. My fries cost $6.50. There was no cheese and the chili was disgusting. I took two bites and could not stomach the rest. The fish and chips, the were so greasy I could have squeezed a cup of oil of of them. We also ordered coffee and it was cold, the waitress served us old coffee and exchanges it for fresh. The waitress was nice enough to take my fries off the bill. If you are looking for good food, don't stop here. You will regret it. read more

I've been here twice while passing thru on trips to Montana from the Portland area. Passed on eating a few times before because it looked like a drive-in where you sit in your vehicle to place your order and eat. Finally decided to it a try and was pleasantly surprised that they had close to home cooked menu selections and reasonable prices. Both stops I was very pleased with the food and the portion size of the meals. Definitely will stop again on the next trip to Montana! read more

Very welcoming staff. Nice comfortable diner. Good for breakfast and accommodating when you are extremely hung over. A little small so don't expect to seat a party of more than 5 at one table. Good food! read more

A good place to eat breakfest, they have french toast to die for. Also, the place is well decorated and makes you feel like you are in a old fashioned diner. The staff is also very friendly and willing to have a conversation! read more

Great breakfast stop. The Eggs Benedict is a big plate but man is it good. Worth the sit down meal

My husband and I stopped here for breakfast on a road trip to Montana. We both enjoyed our breakfasts, especially the hash browns. I'm always on the lookout for good ones when eating breakfast out. Few places do them well. The ones at Sam's rank up there as some of the best. Yum! read more

I'm just passing through Kellogg Idaho and found this restaurant. I just had breskfast, the eggs benedict. Very good, nice place good prices. Highly recommend! read more

I was torn between two and four stars but I couldn't give them less for the inattentiveness of the wait staff. I had the Chicken Fried Steak. It was in the top five of CFS I have had. It was hand breaded and pan fried to a golden brown. The gravy was simple but decent. My sunny side up eggs were overcooked but the hash browns were crunchy and a huge pile. The wife had a Garbage Omelet that was huge but I am not so sure I would order it. I will say the bacon in it was nice and smokey. The wait staff while friendly paid less attention to you then an ex-wife. After seating ourselves we waited for about ten minutes before she took out order. There was two tables with a total of five other customers. One wait person spent most of her time talking with one of those tables while the other one was behind the counter stuffing her face. Too bad really, it was reflected in her tip. But I will stop again as the CFS was great. read more

Loved this restaurant for pre-ski breakfast! French toast was awesome! Great service, great menu- definitely recommend!

Great breakfast for the price. French toast was homemade cinnamon swirl bread dipped in thick egg batter. The biscuits were on the small side but the cinnamon roll and pancakes are big. Overall good little place for breakfast and cheap prices. read more

When attending this fine establishment, I ordered the breakfast burrito with double bacon and no sausage. The food arrived at the table in a very fast manner. The servers were very friendly and accepting. The breakfast burrito was packed with flavor, every element of the burrito was exquisite and appreciated. All in all, this was an amazing trip and I definitely recommend Sams. read more

Visiting the area and decided to pop in for breakfast. Very good food and very clean. Recommend!

Convenient to the 90. Breakfast food was average. Potatoes (they called them spud potatoes) were delicious. Service was average.

One of the best breakfasts we have ever had while traveling the gutt buster was full of flavor bacon and sausage gravy. The waitress actually brought me my order to the car and was sweet. They have massive cinnamon roll that saved the day with my wife. Love the food and absolutely a cool place read more

After a grueling 425 miles on the Interstate, and a two hour wait in a doctor's office, we pulled off at the Kellogg exit to have a bite of dinner. My wife knew about Sam's, as she had stopped there years before with her mother. However, as was immediately apparent, Sam's had begun its decline some years ago. The first indication things were bad was the exterior of the small building: empty flower planters ringed the windows along the front. Weeds grew waist-high along the edge of the sidewalk leading to their door. A stray cat was curled up next to the front entrance. The next indicator hit us like a fist when we stepped indoors and were assaulted by an incredible wall of heat: the air conditioner was "down", and air temperature hovered around 80. It was stifling, but we were starving, we were there, and we sat down to order. Our pleasant young waitress had enough rings through her nostrils to hang a shower curtain on. I kept things simple and ordered a Patty Melt with fries. When it arrived the burger itself resembled a charcoal briquet. While trying to gnaw through it, I bit down on a chunk of bone in the beef which nearly cracked my crown. But the fries were okay. My wife's burger was also a byproduct of Sam's inhouse 'Barbecutioner': overcooked, to put it mildly. I decided the stray cat needed my burnt beef patty more than I, so stripped it off the rye bread and rolled it in a napkin. When we escaped Sam's 'Roast While You Dine Sauna', I summoned the cat, who promptly rejected the beef. Yeah, it was so badly burnt a starving stray cat rejected it. My suggestion to readers? This is a spot that only the institutionalized locals could love. Bypass Sam's, and find another spot in Kellogg. read more

Wait staff picked up things on floor and did not wash hands before handling silverware. Three tables that came in after us were served first. When we said something to the waitress, there was no reaction. read more
