It was an okay experience overall. I ordered the grilled turkey bacon avocado sandwich, and it was just average--I didn't finish the second half. It felt a bit soggy and seemed like it was missing a sauce or something to bring it together. Someone in our group had the Miner's Burger and mentioned the bottom bun was completely soggy. The kids had chicken tenders, which were very small--more appropriate for a toddler than older kids--and they were still hungry afterward. The tenders themselves weren't anything great either. Was actually headed to a different place for breakfast but stumbled upon this first. It's part of the Brooks Hotel and takes up a good portion of the ground floor. Tamra was my server and she did a fantastic job. She's one of those that just makes you feel like you've been coming in forever. I had the huckleberry pancake meal that comes with 2 eggs and a choice of meat. I went with the sausage and it was perfect. The pancake was out of this world good, and huge. From previous reviews it sounds like service can be sketchy. I can say that on this day, everyone in the place was taken care of very well. Local diner that's connected to the Brooks Hotel. You seat yourself, there's seating in the first room and then it extends to the back where the bar area is. Our waitress Tamara was very friendly and attentive! I got the chai tea latte which was yummy. My stepdaughter and I got the avocado breakfast sandwich and it came with a small fruit bowl. The bread itself was a bit too hard/dry but overall they were really good, bacon was perfection! My husband got the french toast with 2 eggs and bacon and he said it was pretty good. read more

The Brooks is a unique experience, as you can tell from the wide variation in the reviews here. Personally, I like the place. For breakfast, you get good portions and friendly service and the bacon is some of the best I have had anywhere. Most bacon from a restaurant is either so overdone and tough you know it's been sitting at the back of the grill since 5:00 a.m. just waiting for you to come in at 8:00 or it is so skinny and tasteless you wish you'd ordered sausage links instead. Yeah, bacon is that important to me. Because it's part of an historic hotel, it has a feel that is much like a back-in-the-day coffee shop off the lobby -- which, of course, it is. I'm always a little surprised when folks roll into a town like Wallace from big cities and want to assign a James Beard scale of culinary excellence to a simple cafe off Main Street USA. If you're that picky, stay in San Francisco or have your breakfast on the road at one of the franchises that dot Interstate 90. I appreciated being treated to a nice meal in a quiet place with thoughtful wait people and at a very fair price. The Brooks fits that bill just fine, thank you, and I'll plop down again next time I drive back and forth between Minneaplis and Seattle. read more

Decent food and prices. It was convenient as we were staying in the Brooks Hotel. We ate here twice, but I had breakfast both meals. The server wasn't sure if they served poached eggs but they did and they actually did a great job. The wife had pasta and said it was ok. Portions were on the large side. We were just overnighting on a trip to Montana and won't be stopping again. The hotel was well below what we expected so we'll not stay there again, meaning the restaurant won't be on our list either. It just isn't worth a stop off the interstate - I-90. read more

We had a beautiful birthday brunch planned and the service was absolutely horrible. It was a party of 15 with only one waitress. There were about 3 tables ahead of us waiting for their food. As we continued to wait for our food, several other people came in and was seated. As we continued to wait for our food we noticed that everyone and I mean everyone before us and after us received their meals. We waited over an hour and a half until the manager finally offered us some bread. The manager seem to care less that our party was upset and displeased with the service. I hate to mention.. that everyone that was served was not people of color. Yes.. we were all African-American and I have never received such unprofessional service. ( If everyone could just respect each other- wow this could be a better world). We shared our concerns with the manager, he pretty much mocked us and said nothing to help the situation. Went to the Brooks w/a group after church, the food was Okay, until my wife asked me what the green on the top of my hamburger bun was. I thought it was the pickle coming thru the top of the bun, but upon further review I found MOLD. Lost my appetite, as did my wife. The waitress was mildly appologetic at best. This place delivers on what it says it is: Your basic hometown diner. I've only had their breakfast but it was very good. The prices are very reasonable and the food of good quality. I recommend the Miner's Breakfast. The ham steak is great, appeared as though they actually have a ham in the kitchen that they sliced it from. The biscuits and gravy are very generous and very good. The hasbrowns were perfect. The service was very friendly and efficient. They even filled our thermos with coffee for the road. We will definitely be back. read more

The wait for food was long but it was well worth it. The plate had a lot of food on it and it was delicious. I had fish(cod) and fries. The pieces of cod were thick. The fries tasted home made and we're golden brown. Our server was very sweet and attentive. They do charge 3 percent more if you are using a card. I would recommend. read more

I have to disagree with others who did not like the food. I had salmon fish and chips and it was amazing. Fries were battered also. Salmon was fresh dipped, crunchy on the outside an flaky and moist on the inside. My mother had a cheeseburger that was thick and hand-pressed. The help was very accommodating and timely. read more

We ended up at the brooks later in the evening on 6/15/14 Fathers Day after a long hike up the coal creek trail. The restrooms were dirty and not real sanitary. The salad bar was very basic but seemed fresh, the first few dinner items i tried to order they were out of. When my family and i got our meal it was pretty good overall. Won't be going back to this place. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with Swiss cheese and the "cheese" was white processed cheese product. There was hair stuck to the mustard bottle at the point of dispensing and the bathroom smelled so bad we couldn't stay in there to wash up before hitting the road. read more

Perhaps we picked a bad day :-( we went for Friday night dinner as we liked the reviews we were reading. Yes, it is cozy and clean and the staff is very friendly BUT the food was awful. Prime rib special tasted like a piece of roast beef with no flavor. The coconut prawns left to be desired. .... We went early evening.... I saw clam chowder offered only to open the pot and scrape the bottom to barely get a cup full. Well and the salad bar ... Oh my... Just a few left over pieces of lettuce and the veggies, well - we had to look deep into the containers to find any. It was wayyyy overpriced, they could have offered us a discount....... Needless to say we won't be going there anytime soon. Better luck to the next person that decides to go there. Be ready for anything .... That's our best advise. read more

Food is just ok. Denys quality. Service is so slow and the cook gets overwhelmed easily. The big guy that has a ponytail says he's an owner, could not be more unfriendly and acted like he was upset we were there. We stayed in the hotel for a week and he never once even faked a smile. I love this restaurant, located in the Brooks Hotel in downtown Wallace, Idaho. I live about 90 miles west of Wallace, Idaho and a few times a year travel here, just to get my hot turkey sandwich fix. I don't know about the other food but the hot turkey sandwich is one of my all time comfort foods and they have a great one here. read more

From what I gather from other reviews, breakfast is good here. We had dinner, and it wasn't much to write home about. Very basic and average in my opinion. Service was good, but we were the only people in the place for dinner. It beat making a PBJ in our hotel room, but it wasn't anything special. read more
