My husband remembers coming here with his dad as a child so we've been looking forward to the opportunity to go. It's the perfect stop after a day of skiing. My husband got the burger, I got the patty melt and my daughter the kids burger. Even when they were busy the servers were friendly and the service was fast. Everything came out hot and fresh. I did the tots and my family did the fries. They were all good, depending on what you're in the mood for. This patty melt is superior to anything I've had elsewhere, 10/10! A group of friends and I have been going to Kingston, Idaho to go camping and floating for a few years. Each and every time we drive by The Snake Pit, on our way to the campground, we say "next year we need to try that place." Well, this was the year! We were able to try it on two different days (Friday and Sunday). , on our way to the campground, we made a quick stop and just had a few beverages at the bar. The bartender was friendly and efficient. She made our drinks and got them to us quickly. That was great, because we still needed to get everything setup at the campsite. Their prices for the cocktails were really reasonable. , on our way back to Spokane we left later than we normally do and decided to give them a try for lunch. When we walked in Sunday shortly after opening, at about 11:15, we were quickly greeted and sat at our table. It was probably 10-15 minutes before our server came over and brought us some waters. While waiting to order, I ran out to my car to get a long sleeve shirt, because it was a little chilly where I was sitting. When I came back in, my friend informed me she overheard the hostess tell some other potential customers that it would be (about) a 15 minute wait for a table and probably 40 minutes to get food after you order. This was not communicated to us directly, but we made the decision to wait (total time at the restaurant was about an hour and a half). If you're in a hurry, you may not want to stop here. If you have time, then it's a neat place. I ordered their Trout Po'Boy with a side salad and it was wonderful. Something you don't get everywhere and made the wait worth it. The side salad was nice, but it came tossed in the dressing, so if you don't want that, you'll want to ask that they put the dressing on the side. My friend ordered a 1/4 pound cheese burger and added sautéed mushrooms and onions. She also ordered French Fries as her side. She said the fries were tasty and their fry sauce was nice. They did forget the mayo on her burger, but she was able to improvise with the fry sauce. read more

This was BY FAR the best BBQ we've ever had. My sons and I stopped randomly on our first family vacation to try some Rocky Mountain Oysters. We were not disappointed. The food exceeded our expectations. We'd come from Washington to Wyoming and stopped here on the way back and our waitress was our favorite on our whole trip. I'm such a perk for not getting her name but she was wonderful and kind. My little guy was so impressed by his food he demanded the chef be praised! Though it's a bit off of the freeway (maybe 8-10 minutes) The Snake Pit is well worth the stop. It's a little rustic and a little off the beaten path but the food was spectacular! My husband had the trout po'boy (fantastic) and I had the burger with the bacon and jalapeno jam. Be warned, the jalapeno jam is SPICY, but so delicious. The bacon is chopped and then cooked so you get some in every bite! I would maybe avoid the onion rings, they were a little doughy, but the fries were spectacular. Even on a week day at 2:30 in the afternoon this place was reasonably busy. The waitress was super efficient and really sweet. Such a fun place - and the food is excellent! We shared a reuben sandwich the size of two sandwiches, added clam chowder, a side of onion rings along with the fries, and topped it off with huckleberry bread pudding, The Reuben sandwich featured marble Rye and all the fixings, including Pit smoked corned beef, and was absolutely delicious. A highlight was also the Onion rings that were perfectly crisp, and I had them with blue cheese dip. The clam was a delicious surprise, and the best I've had for a while, Chock full of clam and potato. But what's stole the show had to be the dessert. Do yourself a favor and make room for this, If you can, at the end of the meal, A huckleberry bread pudding with huckleberry ice cream, huckleberries and caramel drizzled over the top. The play of the different flavors is just mind-blowing. We finished the entire thing even though we were pretty stuffed before it arrived. The snake pit has always had interesting and delicious food anytime I've ever come here. We are locals - been here many times under several different owners. Stopped for breakfast with plenty of time before the menu turned over. Plenty of open tables but only one server who had was ensuring a lot of negative feedback due to the untenable position she had been put in...didn't help her demeanor. I suspect between customers and the kitchen she was in a no-win situation. We were told the wait would be 20min - it was 40 - and were we're finally seated right after the menu turned over to Lunch. We came for breakfast - so we left. Waste of time. Not sure where the owners were and why they were not pitching in on a Saturday morning. They own several restaurants in Coeur d'alene and know the drill. None of their other establishments have this issue. This restaurant is always crowded and has had an excellent reputation for their breakfast - regardless of who has owned it. In the 40 minutes we waited. We saw between 10 and 12 people in a variety of party sizes come in and leave. That's a considerable loss of business. Yes the place is cleaned up - but I would take the old Snakepit right now...hope things improve before their reputation is just another historical artifact in the Silver Valley. read more

Everyone literally took one bite and we threw the rest away. The whole family hardly touched their food. And we the rest way. Not even worth bagging up. We were a large party. We sat on the deck. We came to town for my mother's memorial so wanted a place we could all eat together that we remembered from our childhood. The manager wasn't happy with a big party even though we sat at different tables with separate checks for each family. We waited over 1.45 hours for our food. Never have we waited so long! Waited to be seated for 20 minutes, it was not busy, and then told just sit at the bar. Ordered cheeseburgers made from "wagyu" beef, looked like a McDonalds patty and tasted like it. Food was cold. The menu was similar and the food was the same. Nothing spectacular and the prices, as with most places now, are high. The waitress was ok, drinks were empty often and food took a bit to come out. I think my biggest annoyance is no kids menu. They have a $6 small Mac n cheese and a $12 burger and everything else is pretty much $15-$25 so expect to pay a premium for your littles to take one bite of something and leave it . Finally tried the oldest resto in Idaho. Breakfast was great. A bit unique, too, because their signature Buffalo Chips are something I've never tried before. Think a cross between a cottage fry and a potato chip. I was first, 'wha-what the h***?,' but after my obligatory splashes of tabasco verde, the addiction began. Had to fight off my Wifey for the entire meal. However, she had to fight me off her biscuits and gravy, so... Plenty of cream and sugar on your table for your coffee. Mary and I stopped in here for the first time Saturday afternoon. This place has rustic charm amide the eclectic décor; continuously operating since 1880. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated, we ordered tasty beverages that came right out. Mary had a bacon cheeseburger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and sauce. The bun was very fresh and lightly toasted, the meat patty was hot and juice, this was a delicious sandwich; the fries were hot, salty, and tasty. This establishment has no respect for protecting others by wearing masks. The server was young but unfriendly and unresponsive despite our patience in waiting to be served. Gourmet prices with mediocre quality food... for 16oz ribeye steak for $30 and beer battered cod fillets. Tasted amber and porter beers from the tap: ok aroma but disappointingly bland tasting, ended up getting a glass of Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon for $5 each which was the best choice to go with the steak. read more

Funkiest of the funky. My wife and I stop here occasionally when coming home from Lookout Pass ski area. The food is usually good, and the staff is, well, N. Idaho people. We took our daughter and grand kids, from San Diego there after skiing at Silver to let them have a cultural experience. The grand kids did not know what to think when I told them we were going to The Snake Pit for dinner. The had a blast looking at all of the artifacts hanging in the place. A true N. We really enjoyed this restaurant! It is the real thing! By that I mean it's pretty indescribable. The atmosphere is quirky and eclectic with very rustic aesthetics. That is to be assumed since this is a historical restaurant. Our waitress was excellent with her service and our food was really good. I had high hopes for the new owners since they are already successful restaurant owners but it was a huge letdown. We waited an hour and a half for a couple of sandwiches, which were lousy and the fries were cold. I got a river dip which was supposed to have horseradish on it but didn't. My wife got the cheese steak which was greasy and the onions were raw. The waitress walked past me 20 times with my empty ice tea glass sitting on the edge and never said a word. Then it took forever to get the check. I'm a local and I really hoped new management would fix that place, since it has sucked for many years, but nothing changed. We ordered the salmon but unfortunately it was over cooked.
