I've wanted to try this place out for quite some time and the opportunity presented itself today. I showed up for lunch. The parking lot is mostly paved, but does have a lot of loose gravel. This is important for those on cycles to know. The inside of the place is filled with wood tables and chairs, and plenty to house a large amount of folks. It was also very clean and well lit. Water was brought right away and my order was in quickly. I opted for a burger and onions rings. The huckleberry bbq sauce was really good on the large patty. It was a pretty decent burger and the onion rings were nice and crispy. Friendly service throughout the visit and refills were frequent. Overall this was a good visit and I think it'd be worth coming some day for breakfast. The menu is definitely geared towards that meal. read more

Came here based on the great reviews and honestly it was a miss. I ordered the bacon, eggs and "seasoned" red potatoes. Although the bacon and eggs were fine, the red potatoes were anything but seasoned. My wife ordered the sausage breakfast and the sausage definitely tasted "off". I would put this place on par with a Sharies or Dennys. read more

In between here and there - a very long, long driving day - I was lucky enough to need breakfast, open up Yelp and discover Rose Lake Restaurant was just 10 minutes up the road. I dropped in and joined a few locals who were discussing the local weather and politics, they obviously eat here often - home away from home - and that made me feel really comfortable too. The breakfast was delicious, filling, enough to take some to go. I can't wait to come back through this part of Montana and drop-in for another delicious meal. Check it out. read more

We had a decent lunch here on the way to MT, and the ladies were nice. We were not looking to be filled up, so we all just went the sandwich route. Everything was decent. But it was a bit weird, because my Hubby had to ask if he could fix their toilet. He did his business, and the chain was not connected to flush, so how can you leave that for others! Always a pleasure to eat here. From the CFS to the Signature burger and beyond, you will find a homestyle cooked meal. Always check their sign for special of the day or soup of the day. Candles, bbq sauce and other homecrafts over in the back wall gives a shopping opportunity if you need to get that last minute gift. Be aware this is a cell phone dead zone (Hooray!). read more

Clean, friendly, family owned breakfast stop, abounding with locals and fellow travelers. After too many fancy, sugar laced, "something different", breakfasts on this road trip, we both wanted a down home, mom n' pop breakfast. This place delivered. Thick cut bacon, eggs cooked as ordered, and crispy hash browns with toast and jelly on the side. Simple and well prepared. Easy on and off stop from I 90. Excellent Breakfast Stop In A Virtual Cellular Black Hole SITREP We all tried checking into this fantastic café. But whether we were on AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile, there just was no cell phone coverage at the time. It could have just been the topography. The storm may have had something to do it with it too. Whatever the case, I found myself being the "First To Tip" to here, *quick subsequent edit* AND just found out FTR as well. Let's just say that business here is pretty local for the most part, with occasional random spillage from I-90 and HWY 3 (as was our case). THE SETUP In a sweet log cabin, this rustic adventure begins walking UP the stairs to this restaurant that sits upon it's log stilts. A very friendly wood finished environment greets you, from the walls, floors and chairs. Open & spacious, there is plenty of room to host a large bus group of elderly Indian casino bound slot-machiners heading out from Butte & Missoula, and heading to Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation casinos. THANK GOD that wasn't THIS day, but our friendly waitress told us it could have been like over the weekend. *Note taken* THE BREAKFAST FARE Absolutely delicious options. There are your traditional breakfast fare options, which would put any Denny's to shame (and I don't mean that as insult since Denny's has provided a great oasis of friendly comfort in some really remotes areas on our trip), but that the food plates were large and very substantial. The two areas where they really featured some unique talents was in French Toast and Omelets: * Marty got the Blueberry Bread Pudding French Toast - what an amazing combination that also came with 2 eggs and 2 (really 4) big strips of bacon for $8.99. * I got the Mexi-Omelet (and huge Mexican Omelet with cheese & chili & salsa, along 4 pieces of Sourdough Toast and what I can only call whispy hash browns, since they were delicious, but much thinner per strand than what I am used to seeing at most Cafes. * To be honest, I forgot what uncle Gary had, but I think it was pretty boring considering what other amazing options presented themselves. ;) THE LOWDOWN Every now and then (though it seems to have been a few times every day this trip) in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest, I will find a true gem like Rose Lake which may not have listing (or just a shell with no Yelp input whatsoever, as in the case of Rose Café) and I'm just happy I might be able to contribute some bit of information to fellow Yelpers who might be motivated to come and give their business to an establishment like this one that really deserves it. read more

This isn't five star when objectively measured against all restaurants. But I rate it a five for what it is : a friendly, family owned diner with good food at very reasonable prices. They almost always have one or two good specials and they serve breakfast all day. Burgers are great. Their home made daily soups are very good. Omelettes stand out in any region. A lot of nice touches as far as condiments and fixins. I've probably eaten here twenty times and never had a bad meal. I always feel like I got more than my money's worth! read more

As Mom n Pop restaurants go, this one does not disappoint. You have your standard fare of burgers, sandwiches, salads and what. They have a fantastic breakfast menu with a lot to choose from. The waitress was very nice and helpful with the menus. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. Furniture looks new and if it isnt they keep it looking new. I really felt at home with the country decor. Humerous literature at each table helps pass the short time we were waiting for our food. There is extra seating for big groups as well. Handicap acces. Child seats available. Bathrooms Were clean and functional. Great place for down to earth folks to get a bite to eat. Myself and my husband both had burgers and tots which we couldnt finish as the portions were very generous. Tots were crispy and tasty. A lady next to us got a cobb salad which had me wishing I'd gotten that instead. She said it was delicious. The best thing about Rose Lake Restaurant is that it is the home of locally famous Cookieman cookies. (See pics) If you have a hankering for something sweet Nd love cookies, this is worth the stop. Cookieman makes them large and in charge with all natural ingredients. They're an inch thick and taste divine. Lots of flavors to choose from. Egg allergies like me? No problem. Try one of his amazing creamy chocolate smores bar. And its big enough to have leftovers for later. 9 of us stopped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. Michelle did a wonderful job keeping up with all our requests. The food was great with enough left over to warrant take-home boxes. First time there and love the look of the place. Inside is clean. When the waitress should up to take or order I asked her if the gravy for biscuits was homemade and she said yes. When I got my meal I can tell that the gravy is from a can and the biscuits was stale. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and he said it had a bad taste to it. Great food and service! My dad and I always stop by and give the Rose Lake Cafe our business when we pass by, usually during hunting season. I love their burgers, and their chicken fried steak is one of the best I've ever had! Their prices are fair and the atmosphere is very small town/local hangout which is exactly what it is. A tucked away place to eat, where customer service still matters. We were greeted and brought water and menus very promptly. Our server, a young lady with unique eyes, was helpful in her recommendations and checked in on us regularly. We had breakfast with a side of French fries, the housemade fry sauce looked good, and it was! A few quirks- you can buy earrings, headbands, bath bombs, shirts, lotion, soap, and BBQ sauce at this cafe! I can't forget the baked goods by The Cookieman: all kinds of goodies available. The cook knows how to cook eggs! Way to go! I am very particular when it comes to eggs, and believe it or not, I have only found 3 places in the Pacific Northwest where the cook knows how to perfectly baste an egg. Other items that were good: biscuits and gravy, and chicken fried steak. The only thing we weren't crazy about were the hash browns because they were too finely shredded and not crispy enough, they did have good flavor though. Overall, a good place to stop and eat! Food was ok, but lazily made. Waiter didn't ask us if we wanted drinks and had to remind them. Ended up getting wrong drink and after asking again for the right one just topped off the wrong drink with the right one. Waiting was bad, but food was ok. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

We stopped here after finding out our first choice in Cataldo, Mission Inn, was closed. We needed a place for car and human breakfast fuel and the Rose Lake exit with gas station and family style restaurant fit the bill perfectly. The restaurant greeted us with log cabin appeal, huge wooden front door, and varnished wood tables. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, not minding at all brewing a fresh pot for my decaf preference if coffee and communicated accurately my request for lightly crisp bacon. Lots of excellent breakfast choices on the menu. Locals eat here, which tells you it's got to be good on a regular basis. A small store inside the restaurant sells signature huge homemade cookies and various scented soaps. I've made a mental note to keep this stop in mind on future long I-90 trips out of Seattle area. read more
