There dessert menu is never up to date & their soup is always either gone, dried up of all liquid, or scant. The young brunette waitress that has been working Saturday evenings is terrible! She's friendly but super lazy & VERY condescending. She doesn't care nor does she resolve problems presented to her by customers, such as a person asking about what desserts are currently actually available. Also making sure there is soup on the salad bar at dinner time (5 pm) on a Saturday would be good. I have witnessed her doing things like this on several occasions at this point. She also has young men going in the back of the resteraunt that appear to be making a social call. I avoid this place on the weekends in order to get good service from some of the other great waitresses thatvwork there. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat. This is a fun family friendly diner in the silver valley. They offer a wide variety of breakfast lunch and dinner options. My favorite meals are the chicken parmesan and liver and onions. The portions are huge and everything is made from scratch. The staff is super friendly. They offered to give us our oatmeal for free but in the meantime we had all lost our appetite. I called to speak with the manager a week later and they didn't even bother to return my phone call. Tasty, hand pressed lean burgers, from a local rancher, with just the right amount of seasoning on them served with good fries = a rockin' burger. If you have room, order one of their awesome shakes, especially the huckleberry when in season....fantastic. Also, they have good breakfast burritos, and this place seems to always be packed with locals. The staff is always smiling and service is always good. We had to wait 55 minutes after we ordered for our food to arrive. The food was just ok once it arrived, but not great.

So freaking good!!! We ate dinner one night then went back the next day and had breakfast (as lunch). Price was totally reasonable. Proportions were very large. They were ok ...friendly staff with prompt service. The diner was so fricken cold and no escaping air vents. I couldn't even get warm with my heavy jacket zipped all the way up. After complaints they did turn off the air but took forever to get warm Spaghetti sauce was nasty and it was loaded with sauce. Chicken ceaser salad had just as much bacon as chicken and they went dressing heavy. I must say most customers were ordering sandwiches and burgers and those looked really good. We would have sent our food back and got burgers but it took a very long time to get our food and we were so cold we just wanted to get out. Oh and skip the bread pudding. This is our family's go-to diner when we're at Silver; sometimes, I feel, even more highly anticipated than the ski slopes! Really friendly, hard working folks here and fantastic breakfasts. Warning: the Gut Buster lives up to its name (totally worth it though). Portions are large. If you're just passing through (I.e. not prepared to take leftovers), definitely would recommend splitting an order, unless you're really really hungry (and prepared to not move for an hour). Have eaten here once for lunch and was also pleased. Very reasonably priced. Only thing I'll note is that they can be a little slow depending on how many people are working.. Actually, it's a bit upscale in appearance - more like a Denny's - but the wait staff are warm and welcoming, with a nice sense of humor. Very much appreciated at 7 am. The food was . . . okay. Scrambled eggs were folded like an omelet with nothing inside. The hash browns tasted a bit like the oil in which they were cooked. I asked for them to be prepared "crispy" and they were, more or less. The toast was ordinary. I'd eat here again, next time I'm in Kellogg. Although the prices were great and the service was friendly the food was underwhelming. My French dip was made with very thin meat and the au jus was cold. The French fries were soggy and lacked any flavor. The salad bar had ice berg lettuce and no additional vegetables, it was accompanied by cottage cheese, potato salad, pasta salad and a few random toppings. Was sceptical coming here based on the reviews I had read here on yelp. When we pulled into the parking lot it was full of local patrons (we were here on vacation). Anytime I see a place packed with locals I get excited. We walked in and were greeted right away and taken to a booth. The menu was perfect size with several breakfast options. I did a 3 egg bacon omelet and it was PACKED WITH BACON!!! I MEAN PACKED FULL!!! it was delicious! My wife had the sausage omelet that was great as well. My son had a single pancake (that was the size of his head!!!!) with a side of bacon, which was very tasty. The staff was great and I know why the locals come here every morning...because it is great! Oh and the prices can't be beat! Trust the locals! read more

With all our stuff -- including our kitchen supplies -- still buried and boxed, we're trying out the local restaurants to see which ones we'll like. Sam's was a winner this morning. I ordered the sirloin breakfast, and the steak was absolutely delicious. Tender, juicy, nicely seasoned, and rare just like I ordered it. The sunny-side-up eggs came out pretty good, too. My wife got a massive cinnamon roll that filled her plate, and my daughter enjoyed her burger. Decent coffee to top it off. Overall, good diner food and friendly staff. No complaints. read more

I picked up a large order to go and the service was prompt and the meals were well priced. The food was ready when I arrived from the silver mountain lodging. The food was very delicious and plentiful. I ordered two orders of the small gut buster (basically half order, and after the fact I realized I should have just ordered a full order...it was early and lesson learned). It was the perfect size and very flavorful. The other orders were the egg, meat and hash brown breakfasts. More than the kids could eat. I can only rate the breakfast, I have not tried any other meal yet. read more

We went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The crowd seemed to be split between locals and travelers and they did not seem overly crowded. There were 3 waitresses running the tables. We waited *45 minutes* for french toast, during which the waitress did not visit our table to apologize for the wait. We understand that good food takes a while (and the french toast certainly was good) but it should not take almost an hour for diner food. The menu is unfortunately pretty limited - no pancake + eggs/meat options for breakfast. I wouldn't say this is the worst place (like I said, the french toast was good!), but I have had much better service and experiences at other mom & pop - type diners on the interstate. read more

Sam's used to be our favorite restaurant when we visited Kellogg, but it has changed over the past few years. Their recipes have changed and the quality of food has gone down. Last time I ate there, I ended up with a severe allergic reaction to chicken strips. They are either using breading that contains tree nuts or sesame or their oil is contaminated. I have had chicken strips there many times so they need to be more careful about food preparation. Very disappointed because we used to love to eat there and now have to avoid it.
