This location is the original Samos location and is DEFINITELY the one you should visit if you haven't yet tried their food. Located on the corner of Fleet and Oldham in Greek Town so there is a ton of free street parking around. This location had an old time charm and cozy feel inside. The service can be a bit slow but the staff are extremely pleasant and friendly. The menu has a variety of items from apps and pita wraps too larger platters and pastas. I am a huge fan of moussaka and the one at Samos is definitely in the top 3 I have ever eaten! read more

Got to Greek-town to try Samos on a Friday for lunch. We tried to call ahead to order a few dishes for sharing. The line was busy for a while and once I got an answer was put on hold and the person unfortunately never came back. So not a good start. That said, once I arrived I was greeted by a friendly lady that took my order. Despite being busy our order was ready in 20 minutes which was impressive given the small team of people working. Ordered a few pita sandwiches -Gyro, grilled Chicken & Pork Souvlaki which were all excellent! The star of the show was the Octopus starter which was seasoned and grilled perfectly. Not many places get Octopus right. The side of potatoes were tasty but had a bit too much salt. Also ordered the dip trio. Taramo, Melitzano & Tzatziki. The Taramo was some of the best I've ever had! Spanakopita & Beef Dolmades were very good. Overall, a home cooked feel with a small team that is preparing a good variety of Greek cuisine with care. Would highly recommend! read more

This is a first time visit for us, this is a really easy to find restaurant, good location. Seating was quick, sit anywhere! Parking can be difficult depending on the time of day, it's all street parking. There were 3 of us and my first friend ordered the Spinach Pie, it was bigger than she expected and delicious. She also had the chicken pita wrap, very fresh and tasty. The next friend had the shaved lamb pita wrap, Also very good. I had the lamb pita wrap and thought I ordered the shaved, I didn't so it had chunks of lamb which were tough and chewy, although very tasty. As an appetizer I ordered the fried calamari, it was huge and came with a warm marinara sauce, perfect. I can't fault them for my mistake in orders, would have preferred the shaved lamb, well, next time. Prices are reasonable. read more

I was underwhelmed. I attempted to call in a takeout order but the number had a strange message that they weren't accepting calls. I ordered the moussaka and it was missing my favorite ingredient...cinnamon. Additionally, it lacked flavor. The bechamel was a bit too soft for me. The baklava was "meh". It lacked the two textures that make it extraordinary...flaky and chewy. It was more wet and heavy. If you're looking for flavorful Greek food, this may not be the spot for you. Samos is a staple of Greektown and I have been lucky to have their original location just a few blocks from where I live. They previously or cash only but they do now indeed take credit card! Finally!! I have been here numerous times over the years and my favorites are their dips, their octopus is so incredibly tender and delicious, their lamb is perfect, and their pita wraps are awesome. Been here twice, once in November and then last night. It's pretty good. I think I liked it the first time better. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I particularly liked our waitress last night who cleaned the dirty mirror. The place is a little run down and could use a facelift. It's also cash only which is fine because the prices are good. The first time I came I had branzino which I really liked but I opted for extra vegetables over a carb and I just wasn't a fan of them they were drenched in too much oil and sauce for my liking and the flavor, while reminiscent of my Yia Yia's stews, isn't a flavor I'm keen on. She had the agvolemono soup and it was good but too much orzo so it wasn't exactly how we like it. She also got the Tour of Samos platter and it was too much food for her to finish but I helped her and it was good. I particularly liked the gyro. I remember we tried the galaktoboreko but it wasn't memorable so we didn't get it the second visit. This time she got the soup again because she always gets agvolemono on the menu and I she had the same verdict but it was still worth it. She then had the souvlaki platter which she enjoyed and her vegetables were less oily compared to mine last time (I guess I can request less) but she also loves that traditional flavor and it came with a side salad. The tzatziki is delicious out of the three I tried, eggplant and olive tapenade also good but nothing out of this world. I had the Neptune salad and the shrimp was delicious and perfectly cooked but I excepted more than 4 shrimp on the large salad. Proportions were off wasn't well balanced. I wouldn't get it again because I'm not a fan of their Greek salad. The entire thing was served cold apart from the shrimp which I cannot stand because I can't taste the vegetables or ingredients very well. Tomatoes should never be cold. The feta was pretty good and so was the dressing but really what ruined it for me was the lettuce. I really dislike iceberg lettuce because it lacks any nutritional value or flavor. I guess I could request a swap or else I wouldn't get this again. A saving grace was when asked for the anchovies that came with it because I'm one of the few people that like them and people have to ask to put them on because most ask for without. They were a yummy salty touch that it needed to lift up the flavor. Overall my rating varied between the two trips and depending on the specific dish but despite being a Greek food snob, I would come back because I really like to support the few places left in Greektown! Sad it's said to have changed a lot. I would definitely try some appetizers and perhaps souvlaki or another fish instead. read more

If you want a real old school Baltimore restaurant, run to Samos. It started out as a mostly carry out/ counter in the width of a row home in Greektiwn, and broke thru a wall to double its size. Even still it is small and we had to wait prob 25 minutes at 130 for a table for 6. Much better to have 4 people. I got the octopus app for my meal and it was a generous portion with a well balanced tomato/olive oil/caper topping. I was a little gun shy because the last time I ordered it at another restaurant it was swimming in capers! The Greek salad had nice chunks of feta and enough Tom/ cuke/ onions.... The sovalaki plater looked great, the soup was delish, the spanikopita was a nice size and looked like it was made in house. I love Samos. My wife and I drove the 30 minutes from our house for a nice dinner at one of our favorites. Samos is in Greek town and might be considered a neighborhood dive. Don't make that mistake. It is one of Baltimore's best restaurants and kicks the butt of every other Greek place. We both chose the souvlaki platter. Two generous skewers of large succulent shrimp - perfectly cooked and seasoned. The platter comes with vegetables, potatoes or rice, pita, salad etc. The potatoes at Samos are the best I've ever had. They are roasted slowly with lots of garlic and are creamy and perfect. I could just eat them as my meal. We also shared a bowl of a lemon orzo soup with a chicken soup base. Truly delicious. Calamari was tender and lightly battered. The total cost of the meal $60 before tip. The waitress was a delightful in a neighborhood friendly way. Btw, we went to the Samos on Oldham road. Staying in Greektown, I had high hopes for Mediterranean food in this area. Samos was just ok. I have definitely had better Greek food in NY. The hummus was gritty and could benefit from more tahini, but the garlic was nice. Spanakopita was baked to look like a calzone, not a slice from a pie. Unfortunately it was heavily salted and that ruined it for me. The chicken skewers were juicy and tender but there was no tzatziki sauce to accompany them, just lemon, which was disappointing. We bounce back and forth between the chicken souvlaki platter and the gyro - which is some of the only freshly made gyro options we have locally. We'd like to go with a bigger crowd and try more of the appetizers, but the platters are so nicely sized that we haven't gone much further into our exploration of the menu yet. read more

This restaurant is AMAZING. I came for a late lunch with my friend after work and just WOW. The food blew me away. We got the Tour of Samos and it was amazing!!!! We started off with a Greek salad + tzatziki sauce. The homemade pita was so good (I love good bread and this really blew me away)!! We then got seafood platter and then the meat platter (both pictured). The calamari MELTED in your mouth and the meat was just so juicy. All this food was $53 in total (honestly probably the best deal in Baltimore) and the flavor was not lacking at all!!! I would 10/10 recommend. read more

The server was very unfriendly to us, She did make eye contact when we came in and didn't smile or welcome us. After we sat down I noticed she was very friendly to the people on the next table who appeared to be Greek, asking them how they were doing and smiling/laughing. You want greek food? This is the place to go. We shared the eggplant dip appetizer, and it was so creamy and flavorful - especially with the warm pita. Then came the greek salads. These were not just a salad with a few olives and feta - these were great greek salads. Creamy dressing was the perfect topping. Warm pita once again was perfect. We had the souvlaki platter and the combination platter and both were great. The only thing we hate (I mean absolutely HATE) about this place, is that they are not open on Sunday, so we had to go somewhere else for dinner. What a great find! After finishing up an appointment nearby, I was hungry and wanted a different and satisfying dinner before getting on the road back to Virginia! Found Samos restaurant right here through Yelp and decided to go for dinner. Arrived and was seated quickly. Parking is on the street and even though I'm not a fan on parallel parking, I did ok getting into a small space! Ordered some water and have a glance at the menu. I opted for the Souvlaki platter with skewers of lamb and steak. Being on a low carb diet, I opted to have string beans with tomato sauce instead of the rice or potatoes. It came with a nice Greek salad and pita points. The pita points were a little cheat on my diet but tasted great with the Tzadziki sauce. The lamb and beef kabobs were plentiful and tender bites of deliciousness!! They were seasoned just right and not too heavily. The vegetables were very good and service excellent. I'll visit this restaurant again in the future. One note, they only take cash but do have an ATM in the back if the restaurant if you are like me and don't carry much cash. I had the chicken and lamb souvlaki platter and the roasted eggplant dip--the chicken was perfectly seasoned and charred, the lamb was also flavorful. The side of potatoes were so light and delicious. The last time I had lemon-y, soft potatoes like that was in Greece. The dip came with plenty of pita to share, although I wish it had been warm, but that's just a personal preference. Just remember cash only! My wife and I have been talking about visiting Samos for at least 20 years. That's more than two decades. We are slightly acquainted with the proprietor through family connections and decided the time to go was TODAY! We arrived at about 4pm and were seated immediately. We ordered our beverages as we perused the menu. So much temptation for the palate! My bride ordered the avgolemono soup and two lamb souvlaki and roasted veggies; both a la carte. I ordered the shrimp and feta pie (on the recommendation of a Greektown friend) and the Pastitsio, sort of a Greek lasagna but using thin ziti. I also ordered a small Greek salad with anchovies that came with my main course. It seems that within moments the soup and salad were served. The soup, according to my wife, was outstanding. Let's qualify that by saying not as excellent as her moms. I sampled a spoonful and this soup had more body, chicken and orzo than my mother-in-laws rendition. It was delightful. My Greek salad had chunks of tomato, cucumber, feta, red onion with mixed greens and anchovies. I topped it with a little bit of Samos salad dressing. The texture and flavor was enhanced by the dressing, feta and especially the anchovies. Then came the feta and shrimp pie. It was nearly the size of a calzone. Spanakopita and tiropita are usually served in small triangular pieces. I've also seen the former made and served in casserole form, like Pastitsio. What a treat. A real treat. My wife's Lamb Souvlaki and roasted veggies were tasty. The house preparation of lamb with their seasoning and grilling could make me a fan of lamb yet! Very good. My Pastitsio was excellent! It was served on a bed of tomato sauce which, to me, made it special as the presentation was special. I loved it. A special shout out to the flat bread. I believe it was brushed in olive oil and toasted for a moment in the oven. So, what's a meal at Samos without dessert? Incomplete. The bread pudding here is, let's say, exquisite. The service was friendly and on point and we knew it was time to go when we saw folks waiting in queue to be seated. A good meal here can be had for $25PP or less. AMAZING. To start off with Samos is cash only, however they have an ATM in the back, if you're like us, and you tend to be bad about carrying cash. Moving on to the food, Samos' pita bread was quite possibly themost amazing that I have very tasted. I had no idea I could enjoy pita bread honestly. It was moist, fresh, and tasted similar to thin pizza crust and was seasoned amazingly well. It was utterly delicious. Their rice pilaf was what really hooked me. The way they prepared it was so fresh and filling. It was the type of fare your mom might make on a rainy day that you'd fill up a bowl with and keep eating until you felt like you might pop. The service was friendly, warm, and attentive and Samos Restaurant definitely earns it's high score, especially since they've been in business for decades.
