    Sammy's Assorted Seafood Specials

Sammy's Fish Box is located all the way down towards the end of City Island. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is large, with lots of tables, well lit, clean & lots of seafaring decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's always full & the staff is always busy but friendly & accommodating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is as quick as possible depending on how crowded it is. You won't go hungry though, because the complimentary salad, pickled veggies & bread will fill you up if you're not mindful of your upcoming entree. Their specialty is seafood but the menu has many other food items & is extensive. The portions are big & you will definitely leave with a doggy bag. It's pricey but worth it. The desserts are just as good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After dinner you can take a nice walk to the waterfront & enjoy the views.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

First time here and the food is sampling amazing!! Service was pretty good considering we came as a big group.

Went to City Island and ate at Sammy's Fish Box. The food was good and the service was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only down side was it was crowded so the service was a little slow.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But outside of that I would consider it a complaint just a observation. Our server made up for the slowness in performance and personality. I wouldn't expect anything else given the popularity of this place. Look at the portions they were well with it.

I haven't been to City Island since I was a wee lad and wifey had asked me about going up there and checking it out. First off, check out the wiki on it, it has a very storied history and interesting facts that go back before the American Revolution. Sammy Fish Box is about a 5 minute drive after the bridge going into City Island, there is a parking lot so do not fret. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a huge joint inside with plenty of seating, host was very friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place looks very sea-foody, super cool IMO.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu is huuuge, so many different seafood combos with shrimp, lobster, calamari, fish and more. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. No complaints on service. I had a seafood combo with all types of shellfish, the shrimp were super meaty and good. I would for sure come back and try the different stuff on the menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bathroom was clean, was able to change my baby's diaper, no problem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you never been to the boogie down Bronx and are a seafood fan like myself please check it out. Good luck if you're taking public transport as it is a mission, we drove a car. I know that has nothing to with the establishment but just know before you think about going!! Cheers!

This was my first time at Sammy's but what a wonderful experience. While near the end of the street it a wonder spot for seafood. We got here early so parking wasn't too much of an issue but be careful I hear this area is a parking ticket haven. Upon entering the Restaurant we were seated and served quickly. Great food, we had a wonderful time.

Sammy's Fish Box is a treasure on City Island. The service and atmosphere is great. You cannot ask for a better, dining experience. The seafood portions are large, definitely great value for your meal. During my last visit, I had been away from the U.S. traveling in Countries wherein the seafood is freshly caught, and cooked the same day from icy, Nordic waters, so my tastebuds were very picky. I was not impressed by the taste of my seafood. Most likely due to growing up on seafood in New England you acquire a certain taste. My friends enjoyed their seafood, and were happy, they live in the Bronx and that's what their tastebuds are accustomed to. With that being said, give it try, you never know, you may enjoy.

The food here is massive. You'll get a plate of bread, garlic bread, cornbread, butter, veggies, and cheese to share. The actual seafood is just okay though imo. It looks better than it tastes. It was fresh and large but it didn't really have any flavor. I got scampi style shrimp and salmon. The fried jumbo shrimp was great. But the salmon was lacking flavor. The rice and pasta are both bland. I asked for peri peri sauce on the side and that helped a lot. If you like deep flavor and very spicy food, get it peri peri style. I came with a large group for a birthday. Everyone else agreed on the food. It was edible for sure, but nothing memorable. Very bland. The service is quick and friendly.

I meeeeean it's Sammy's. Bring cash because they don't take credit cards nor debit cards. The crab legs were incredible; seasoned to perfection. And shrimp were amazing. The portions are ok, they could be bigger. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside and enjoyed the sun over the water, amazing views.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm definitely going back next summer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But in all honesty, I could go in the winter but the vibes wouldn't be the same.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Hey Foodies, Sammy's has always been my City Island go to since childhood. Always friendly service and fresh generous portions of food. On this visit I had crab cakes, lobster bisque, garlic pasta, w. yellow rice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As far as ambiance, it's nice for a fun date night or celebration.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My one suggestion: order a side of melted butter to go w. your meals, especially the yellow rice.

Went with a group, 2 of us had been to City Island before, for the rest of us it was our first time. First off, I just want to say, City Island is really cool, doesn't feel like you're still in New York. Sammy must be doing pretty well for himself, there are multiple Sammy's restaurants at that end of the island and they have five parking lots. I am not a seafood eater but the rest of the group is. They feasted. They all loved their meals. The amount of seafood on their plates was crazy. I had the cheeseburger which was ok, I think it might have been microwaved. I feel like restaurants like this don't really exist anymore. There is so much to look at on the walls, neon signs everywhere, big booths, old school Tiffany (inspired?) lamps hanging above each booth, balloons at the entrance which I assume they give to kids either coming or going. The drinks were pretty strong and on a Friday night, I appreciated that. I had two lemon drops which were tasty and did the trick. The rest of the group started with pina coladas and then switched to beer. Our waiter, I didn't catch his name was great. You could tell he has been doing this for a long time. We all had a really fun dinner there.

    Joey T.

Wow, we were not prepared for the portions! Decent place, decent service, very good pina coladas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is kinda tacky but cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Seafood paella

We have been wanting to try this place for a very long time and made it out there today. We were so excited to try the seafood paella. When it arrived we were blown away by the size of it. It says it feeds two but it would be enough for a family! However, the dish was overall boring and flavorless. It didn't have any unique flavors and the seafood was a bit dry. For how excited we were, it was a huge letdown. Despite the food being disappointing, our server, Jeff, made up for the whole thing. He was friendly, attentive, and so kind to our whole family including our kids. He made us feel welcomed, and valued. I'm not sure if we'd make it back here. We wouldn't get that same dish, but would heavily consider returning because of the stellar service.

    Melissa K.

The service was excellent!! Jeff, our waiter catered to our every need. Every single staff was welcoming and friendly. My family took me for a graduation dinner and the staff gave me a balloons and a flower necklace to make me feel special. They went above and beyond to make sure I felt special.

The chef comes from the world of high-end NYC dining, and you can feel that experience in every detail of the food. There's a level of creativity, precision, and thoughtfulness here that honestly feels Michelin-worthy. This makes sense, because the restaurant has earned that recognition. Beyond the food, Archie's also has one of the best Scotch and whiskey (bourbon and rye included) selections anywhere in the area. It feels curated by people who genuinely care about food and drink, not just running another restaurant. We eat there often, especially for brunch, which is spectacular and consistently better than it has any right to be for a neighborhood spot on City Island. The best example of the attention to detail was the chopped cheese sandwich special. When it arrived, my first thought was: "How is anyone supposed to eat this giant thing?" But then you take a bite and realize the bread was custom made specifically for the sandwich. Somehow it completely melts in your mouth along with the meat and cheese, making this enormous sandwich unexpectedly delicate and perfectly balanced. It's the kind of detail most restaurants would never even think about. Archie's is a true hidden gem and proof that truly exceptional food can exist in places you wouldn't expect.

I think I officially found my new seafood spot!…read more My boyfriend took me to City Island Lobster House, and the food and service were easily a 5/5. Our waiter, Antonio, was an absolute delight and took great care of us! Fair warning: this place gets PACKED, so be prepared for a wait. One thing I really appreciated, though, was that as soon as our food was ready, they brought it out. Everything arrived HOT and fresh. They start you off with antipasto and garlic bread, and both were SO good. But consider yourself warned pace yourself. We made the rookie mistake of going in a little too hard and were already getting full before our entrées arrived. I mean... you can't go to the Lobster House and not get lobster. I ordered the $49.95 Lobster Clam Bake Special, which came with Maine lobster, mussels, baked clams, corn, clam chowder and dessert. Everything tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and for everything included, I thought it was a great value. My boyfriend ordered the grilled Norwegian salmon, and honestly, his was REALLY good too. Now, if you love garlic like I do, GET THE NOODLES. The linguine in that garlicky olive oil sauce was one of my favorite things on the table. My only miss was the clam chowder. Mine had a lot of potatoes and barely any clams, so I would've liked a much better clam-to-potato ratio. The ice cream cake roll that came with my special, was rich and decadent. Definitely a good way to end the meal. Overall, fresh seafood, generous portions, hot food, great value and wonderful service from Antonio. We will absolutely be back!

The restaurant has plenty of room for large parties, and I appreciated how accommodating everyone was. Our server, Diana, deserves her flowers. She was friendly, patient, detailed, and stayed on top of everything. Managing a group our size without needing the Avengers as backup deserves some recognition. Now, the food. Visually, everything came out looking good and cooked properly. The biggest issue across our table was simple: SALT. Somebody apparently sent the seasoning to a galaxy far, far away. I ordered the crab cakes. They were made with real crab and prepared the way crab cakes should be, but mine had almost no flavor. I ended up adding blue cheese to give them some life. I also had the rice with broiled scallops. The scallops were a little chewy, but the sauce had enough seasoning and salt that mixing some into the rice helped tremendously. I wasn't the only one reaching for the salt shaker either. Several people in our group added salt to their meals. The prices also felt high, especially since many of us ordered from the lunch menu. None of this makes me write the place off. The service was strong, they treated our large group well, the seafood was fresh, and there are several things on the menu I still want to try. So yes, I'll return. My final message to the kitchen, with all the seriousness of Captain Picard addressing the bridge: Season the food. The Force is already with the seafood. Now bring the salt.

This beautifully prepared fillet showcased the chef's skill, generously filled with succulent crab meat that complemented the delicate, flaky fish perfectly. Every bite was a harmonious blend of flavors that melted on the palate. Accompanying the flounder was a baked potato that deserves its own praise. Tender, smooth, and perfectly seasoned, it had a wonderful buttery texture that paired beautifully with the main course. I also indulged in the fried shrimp, which arrived golden and crispy. The accompanying sauce elevated the dish to another level entirely--perfectly balanced and expertly crafted to enhance rather than overpower the natural sweetness of the shrimp. Fried flounder sandwich $22 Tasteless!!! There was absolutely no seasoning to the flounder nor the batter that it was fried in. I swear it tasted like "nothing." 3. Clam chowder (forgot the price) Upon opening the container, we saw a film of oil on the top. Having lived in New England for a couple of years, I have had my fair share of clam chowders and this was just missed the mark by a bunch. My daughter and I had a spoonful of this chowder and it was awful. The chowder was gritty and not smooth. Also, the color was off (beige color). Yes, it was beige color and not that smooth white color. It had no clam taste, but rather a taste of that bottle container clam juice you get from the grocery store. We never went past after the one spoonful. Yes, it was that awful. 4. Clam bellies (forgot the price) Again, no seasoning. However, it was fresh and the best thing we ate. The clam bellies were good size. The batter was light. Everything about this dish hit the mark (minus the lack of salt/seasoning). The people who worked there were pleasant. They were not rude or disrespectful. However, the way how we were seated was unpleasant. We were a party of 2. We paid for our food. Bought enough of food for 4 people, because we wanted to try as much as we can. However, we couldn't sit at a table next to the harbor. We had to sit at a high table with a busted umbrella that that food stain AND the tables were next to the line. So as you're eating, people next to you are waiting online can look and hear your conversation. Mind you, there was a table left that was next to the harbor but they wouldn't give it to us because they want to give that to a family of 4 or more. It is just very poorly managed or it could be that we're not "special" enough to be seated next to the harbor. Note: Obviously, I don't feel privileged enough to be eating there. When they said they're not willing to give me the seating next to the harbor, I kindly asked them to pack my food to go. Again, the staff was pleasant but their subtle entitlement is what threw me off. I do NOT recommend this place at all for a good seafood fix. There are better places at south shore that will serve "seasoned" food with nicer hospitality.
